Select best plan for DATAGUARD IN RAC ARCHITECTURE

Hi
In my planing i will have 2node in my RAC but i don't know how do i must to config DATA Guard ..is it be one server or 2server!
if i have only one server for data guard in fail-over what happen for my RAC?
what about storage?
pls help me to select best solution.

In my planing i will have 2node in my RAC but i don't know how do i must to config DATA Guard ..is it be one server or 2server!What is the version?
If your primary is RAC database, you can configure standby either Single node or RAC standby. It purely depends on your requirement.
If it is RAC then it should be on Two servers, If its standalone standby then one server.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10g-racprimaryracphysicalsta-131940.pdf -- for RAC primary and RAC standby
if i have only one server for data guard in fail-over what happen for my RAC?Failover applicable when no Primary in your configuration, If you have performed failover to standby database, As of now its only Single standalone but its an clusterd database. If you add any node, of course you can extend your instance to the newly added node to the cluster.
what about storage?it depends on you. I prefer SAN.

  • What is the best plan for me? *please read details*

My parents are getting me a 4S for my birthday but I have to pay for the plan.
    - I live in Alberta
    - I will use less than 500MB data
    - I have many friends in different provinces I will be texting
    - I never talk on the phone for more than 200 min a month
    - I'm currently with Koodo
    - I will be in Costa Rica for 4 months in the new year; I am probably gonna get a SIM card when I'm down there.
What's the best service provider, and what's the best plan for me?

    Thanks, Meg.
So would a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S still be the better choice if I plan to use GSM in the US (and not the CDMA part of the Verizon iPhone which would lock me to their service).
Ideally, if I had the device in my hand, I would like to use TMobile's prepaid plan (40$ for unlimited talk, text, and 500 mb of data). Upon getting the phone, couldn't I just discard the included verizon simcard (without my activation) and just pop in the TMobile SIM card since the Verizon device-only instrument comes with the GSM unlocked? ( In other words, I don't have to ask Verizon to unlock the GSM part of the iPhone 5S )
Also, if this is what my goal is (to use a prepaid Tmobile sim), I could just buy an unlocked sim-free iPhone 5S from Apple, right? I dont have to ask for a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S if I want nothing to do with Verizon or use their CDMA service? I'm guessing a device-only iPhone 5s (regardless of carrier label) is the same as unlocked sim-free iphone 5S?

  • Best plan for this scenario (migrate oes2 to oes11)

    Hi there!
I would like to ask you guys the best plan for migrate a few servers that I have
    in oes2 to oes11.
I have four servers in oes2sp2/sp3, these servers have a few NSS
volumes over NCS. Also I have my iPrint service on two machines,
also using NCS. I have one cluster between two machines and
other cluster between the other two machines. For exmaple,
machine1 and machine2, three NSS volumes (every NSS volume is a cluster
resource) and other resource in the same cluster for iPrint. Cluster: CL1
machine3 and machine4, one NSS volume (for other people in the company)
in other cluster. Cluster: CL2. In this cluster only have a NSS volume/resource.
Machine1/3 are physical, machine2/4 are virtual (vmware)
My CA is in other server that I will migrate after a while. So, It seems that there is
no problem with the certificate. Machine1 and machine3 are a replica for the eDir in
    my organization.
My plan: I have deployed two virtual machines and one physical with oes11sp1 and sles11sp2.
I think that the best plan is migrate with migration tool iPrint first, like a cluster resource,
and NSS volumes, and after that, make a transfer ID (like a different project)
For machine1/3, move NSS volumes and after, make a transfer ID.
Is this correct? I dont know If I have to delete the current clusters (cl1 and cl2) and
create new ones, after that, create every resource as It was on the old ones.
    thank you so much !
    Antonio.

If you look in my signature, there's a link to my OES2 guides. Somewhere there is one that I did for our Rolling Cluster Upgrade.
If all you have is NSS and iPrint, then you only need to use the miggui (migration utility) for iPrint--or so I think (I do have to followup on this one as I vaguely recall I asked this a while back and there may have been a way to do this without migrating stuff again).
But your NSS data will simply "re-mount" on the OES11 nodes and you'll be fine (so that's why I like the rolling cluster upgrades).
Let me double-check on the OES2 -> OES11 cluster option with iPrint.
    --Kevin
Thank you Kevin for your answer.
Finally, I think Im going to proceed using transfer ID on my servers that Im only using NSS over NCS (I only have two machines with one NSS volume)
because it seems that its a good option. I would like to keep old IPs from all the servers, cluster and resources if possible. So, testing this
migration on my test environment it seems that it works fine:
    - I use miggui for transfer id between all the machines: physical -> physical and virtual -> virtual. eDirectory assumes new hostname, IP, etc.
the only task "out of the box" is that I have to delete the cluster and regenerate (reconfigure NCS on the new servers) but its pretty easy. This way
I have the two old ips from the older machines and all the ips from the cluster and the cluster resources also. I think that its the best plan.
For the other two machines that has 4 nss volumes and iPrint I must think about a plan. But with those, Im going to proceed this way. I hope
I have chosen a good plan!
thank you so much all for your answers / advices

  • Best plan for us

Is this where I can find the best plan for our family?  I need to upgrade one of our phones and want the best package. Help me with where to get advice.

Well it would help if we knew what the expected usage is. Without that we have nothing to go off of. I would honestly suggest calling into customer service or telesales and have them go over the plans with you so you can decide what you need.

  • What is the best plan for an unlocked iPhone in the US?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I am thinking of buying a no-contract unlocked iPhone from Apple.
I currently have a no-contract iPhone 4s on Virgin Mobile (USA). My plan is 30$ for 300 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. Since VirginMobile is CDMA, I'm guessing they don't unlock their iPhones or let other SIM cards work on the iPhones issued through them (this is assuming the 4s has the GSM capability).
I want a no-contract unlocked iPhone just so I will have the flexiblity of using it overseas since I'm usually making a trip once a year.
    My questions are:
If I buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple (thinking of getting a 5S, 32 GB in white and silver), are there any plans that I can use that are as cheap as VirginMobile's?
I have heard that Verizon iPhones come unlocked (although they have to be activated through Verizon, but a T-Mobile sim can be used and so on). Is this true? Are AT&T iPhones the same?
Will I be able to keep my current cellphone number from Virgin if I switch to a no-contract iPhone and start using a SIM card?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Meg.

  • Best Practices for JDBC with RAC Oracle Thin Driver non-XA Weblogic

Does anyone have experience on setting up your application server's JDBC connection pools for RAC?
We are using Weblogic 10 which supports load-balancing between connection pools at the application level, but I believe the listener is load-balanced on the Oracle CRS side as well.
    Is this recommended / not-recommended?

We use JDBC connection pool. However the load balance
configured at the database. JDBC uses load_balance=on
in the connection string. It works fine. I haven't
tried integrating FAN option and app server.

  • Trying to decide on best plan for me

I am going to Belgium and Italy and will need to phone mobiles and landlines in Australia and possibly also in Europe. I currently have an unlimited world landline subscription from Australia. I am understanding that my options are a) upgrade to an unlimited world landline and mobile subscription. b) purchase skype credit which could get expensive at 29c/min for mobiles c) Purchase a Skype number.
Could you please advise on considerations for these options.
If I purchase a Skype number does this mean that anyone from around the world can phone me from their mobiles or landlines and that I can phone out to mobiles and landlines from anywhere in the world?

what is the main reason for the $200 price diff btwn the base 2.9ghz 27" iMac ($1,799) and the base 3.2ghz 27" iMac($1,999)??
The differences are 1) the slightly faster CPU, 2) a slightly upgraded GPU with increased VRAM and 3) the ability to upgrade to an i7 processor at the time you place your order.
imho you will be better off investing the $200 price difference in more RAM and/or the Fusion Drive before worrying about the slight speed difference between a 2.9GHz and a 3.2GHZ i5 processor.
RAM and disk drive access times have a significant effect on overall system performance.  Photo and video editing performance will be greatly influenced by the amount of RAM available and disk drive access speed ... far more than a mere 0.3GHz difference in cpu processor speed.
The price difference is even bigger ($400) if you are comparing a 2.9GHz i5 to the 3.4GHz i7 versions.

  • I'm going to Europe and will have my iPad along, any tips on the best plans for Internet use etc?

Any tips for international use with iPad?

Since storage space is not a limiting factor for you, you might want to take a look at Apple Lossless. Lossless will give you the equivalent audio quality of an uncompressed format such as WAV or AIFF with about a 30% decrease in file size compared to the uncompressed formats. Keep in mind that if you have an iPod, these Lossless fies will severely decrease your iPod capacity. For instance, a 30GB iPod importing the avg. 4 minute song in Lossless will only hold about 1150 songs.
Personally, I use AAC @ 256 which I find comes pretty darn close to the original CD quality with a large decrease in file size. I have a 60GB iPod, so I was willing to sacrifice some iPod capacity for the improved audio quality.

  • Best Plan For Home Office

I'm looking into eliminating my home office land line and going with an Online Number. There are several features I desire and I'm not sure if they will all be able to work together. Below is my list of requirements. Is there a set of options using Skype that will address them all? What will be the pricing?
Receive and make calls to landlines, mobiles, etc. from an Online Number.
    Have a voice mail account
When I'm out of the office have the ability to receive Online Number calls on my Verizon wireless phone. I have the Skype app on my Android phone. Would be nice to receive Online Number calls through the app rather than just a call forwarded to my Verizon number, in order to avoid using Verizon minutes.
Have a wireless phone with headset attachement.
Have a wireless phone in my home office that allows for me to talk on my wireless phone to another Skype user and at the same time be able to share my computer screen. In other words, do I have to make all screen sharing calls using my Skype Name on my computer (Skype Name voice + screen share) or can I use the Online Number simultaneously with screen share (Online Number for voice + screen share)? I know, kind of a crazy requirement.
    Thanks

What plan do you have now?  And what is your current usage?  Without some details we can't give an answer.
How many and what type of phones do you have, and what do you currently (typically) use in a month as far as minutes, texts and data?

  • Restoration of ASM/RAC database to another clustered set of servers for DataGuard implementation

    Hi all,
I've been working with single instance Oracle DBs for several years and we're now looking into RAC. I'm trying to gather as much info as possible in areas I think may be challenging if/when we implement RAC.
Can someone please help me with some info with regards to the scenarion below:
Assuming I already have a 2 node RAC database running and I want to set-up a failover RAC database, would the following steps be correct(assuming 11g):
Configure hardware, networking and O/S for 2 node RAC cluster (I know there's a lot in this single line, but let's just assume that's all done)
    Configure disks for ASM
    Clusterware installation
    Oracle ASM software installation
Oracle11g software installation with RAC option
    Database creation
***I'm not sure of the steps after database creation:
Export primary database up to a specific SCN (data pump gives the ability to specify scn)
    Import into failover database
Switch on dataguard and sync failover starting from scn specified at export.
Please, help correct these steps and any useful link where this process is treated thoroughly would be highly appreciated.

This is a very high level overview of the steps, but here are some additions/amendments I can make:
    Clusterware installation
    Oracle ASM software installation
-- The above 2 steps are done at the same time. In 11g, the Oracle 11g Grid Infrastructure includes both the Clusterware and ASM installation and configuration.
Oracle11g software installation with RAC option
    Database creation
***I'm not sure of the steps after database creation:
Export primary database up to a specific SCN (data pump gives the ability to specify scn)
    Import into failover database
Switch on dataguard and sync failover starting from scn specified at export.
Will you be using Data Guard for a physical standby? If so, using RMAN would be the correct method in creating the standby database. The general steps would be:
    - Oracle 11g software installation
    - Backup Primary Database
    - Configure Data Guard Parameters on Primary
    - Duplicate Primary to Standby RAC using RMAN (can be done manually or through the RMAN DUPLICATE command)
    - Enable log transport from primary, enable managed recovery on standby, and verify log transport and apply is working as intended.
Again this is a very general overview on the entire process, there are other factors that you'll have to take into consideration when planning such a project:
    - Which protection mode will you be using? Maximum Performance, Availability, or Protection? The business' recovery goals and SLAs will be able to determine which mode you will choose.
    - Will the standby be used for reporting purposes?
    - Recommended to have your standby site have the same hardware configuration as the primary.
    - Do you have an EM site already set-up? Data Guard Broker should be considered in the configuration of the Data Guard environment.
This is just a few things quickly off the top of my head. What OS do you have/plan on using? I don't have the link handy on me at the moment, but the official Oracle documentation should provide detailed guidance.
    EDIT:
At a bare minimum, read the 2 Day RAC Guide. There is more detailed information in the RAC Admin and Deployment Guide, as well as the Data Guard Concepts and Admin Guide. Also here's a step-by-step guide provided by Oracle. You can also find several blogs that provide a more concise step-by-step guide, such as here, here, and here. RACSIG also has a number of very useful whitepapers, but something seems to be wrong with their search function and I can't link anything at the moment. However, I would highly recommend reading through the official documentation as this has more comprehensive information, especially if you are deploying on a production system.

Great Advice given earlier by SuzyQ   - I believe the question not asked of you is ---what do you want to pay for the services that you need.  I think that it would narrow the groups suggestions if you could narrow your needs.
For example: I need talk and text on 4 phones and some data say, 2 Gig, on only one of the phones. what plan is the best cost for me? You may also need to ask what the cost may be to switch to a different plan. I suspect that there will be no cost within Verizon-but ask anyway.
I do not think that you can have a smart phone on any Verizon plan unless you agree to buy data for that phone. Also, you said that wifi is often available-however, I do not believe that Verizon allows talking over wifi without consuming airtime minutes-only data over wifi avoids your allowance to be impacted.
As most here already know, several other service providers offer wifi-friendly service (talk/text/data) that will provide  home/business/restaurant service without impacting your allowance- just not here.
After getting some suggestions here, call 611 and confirm availibility and price.
Best of luck in your research.
