Select/Copy/Paste

Why is it that when I have a photo open in CS4, the photo in this case is 13" x 11". I Select / All / Copy and paste it into a document that's 12" x 18", the photo is now reduced in size to a couple of inches wide. Why can't I set the image size and then Select/ Copy/ Paste and have it paste as that same size?

As John says, the resolution is different. In this case, just add an additional keystroke to the mix: Ctrl+A (Select All), Ctrl+C (Copy), switch images, and Ctrl+V (Paste), then add Ctrl+T (Free Transform). I just did a bunch of video images, and did add a Ctrl+W (Close) for the first image. I just held down the Ctrl key, and did A, C, W, V T, and I was ready to Transform, as was needed to match up to my NTSC 720x480 16:9, PAR = 1.2121. Took moments, and then I just did a Shift+corner drag to Transform my images.

Problems:
1. There is no visual indicator of what text will be copied

3. The long-press on the gesture area is an unusual (for webOS) gesture
Moving text between applications/areas should be identical in all applications, text fields, boxes.

do not work from the Pre 2 browser (it is not possible to select individual words in the example phrase and then grow the selection). These instructions should be updated, or, more desirably, text selection should be standardized on an OS level.
While this is a complaint, if anyone has any suggestions or guides I may have missed, please let me know. Also, if I'm simply doing it wrong, I'd appreciate help, as I've now spent far more effort than a non-phone-enthusiast would to understand the copy/paste functionality of my new device.

Having used the phone for a few weeks now I can say that I've gotten used to selection & cursor motion, but still have problems as there is no indicator of successful action.
I also greatly miss the iPhone's magnifying action for cursor placement, as on my Pre 2 I have to place the cursor and then move it, because I can't see where I'm putting it initially (finger covering word).
I'd love to hear other's thoughts/experiences w/ text selection, the cursor, and copy/paste.

Address Book: How do you select, copy and paste info to an email?

I look up a contact in my Mac Address Book and want to cut and paste email/address and phone into an email I am writing in another application - in this case using AOL online.
It seems that you cannot select and paste the information or selected parts of it from the Address Book to the email using the usual key commands to select/copy/paste text?
It is as if you are trying to copy from a photo... am I the only one to find this a completely mindless limitation of the Address Book?
Or is there something obvious I am missing?

This is insane! I switched to Mac a few years ago (still use XP/Win7/Linux at work) and generally like it. However, I keep running into these idiotic and arbitratry limitations! I want to create a bunch of address cards for people I work with. Everthing is the same except phone extension, name, and email. There's no way to copy/duplicate contacts in Mac Address Book or on my iPhone. And, like many similar issues, if I dare to ask about it at an "Expert Bar", I'll first get a look of confusion and when I finally get the person to understand, I'll just get the useless response of "that's how it works". No ideas for work-arounds. No reporting to Apple development. Just the attitude of "why would anyone want to do anything it doesn't already do?"
It's great having all the Apple stores around here and being able to ask (simple) questions, but they're really not able to deal with much more than older folks who just bought a Mac and don't know how to use a computer at all. If you've been using dozens of computers and operating systems for 20+ years, they don't want to talk to you.

Copy / Paste malfunctioning in Cp5 for Windows

Hi,
I have a situation of creating eCourses that involve a lot of standardized wording. I often want to copy and paste text from a previous slide into a later slide (or page - whatever) in the same project. For example "Click forward to proceed and learn about... etc." It is easiest for me to copy and paste the text since this action retains the same color and styling, rather than retyping the text and reapplying the styling. However, I often have trouble with this. Here are the variable issues:
- It will not copy what I wanted and when I go to paste, it pastes whatever was on my clipboard previously.
- It will copy the entire contents of a textbox instead of just the text I selected to copy from that textbox.
I have tried selecting Copy / Paste from the Edit menu, and of course I have tried Crtl-C / Ctrl-V. Both commands function sporadically.
Is this a known bug, or am I the only one having this issue? I have confirmed the problem many times by simply trying to do the same action twice, finding that the software repeats the bad behavior.
Here is an example. I select the area below to copy (Click forward to proceed), but it will either not copy it at all or copy ALL the text in the textbox, including the portion I selected.

I have found out the cause for the issue: before you install 1.4.1_01.exe you must deinstall all JRE's on your computer (1.3.XX, 1.4.0.XX) than works that well the Copy/Paste.
that is confusingly because we don't have to make that in JRE 1.4.0.

How to select copy and paste an image that has a layer mask

when I select, copy and paste the image it still has the content that I removed using the layer mask.
I want to paste it over another psd whilst maintaing the transparency.

Select, Copy and Paste text - the iPhone can't do that either??? OK, this is pretty lame...the iPhone does not allow you to select, copy or paste text in SMS, Notes, Safari or Mail. Is this just a oversight on the part of Apple?

Apple left out a LOT of basic functionality from the iPhone. I think they believe that the 'sexiness factor' will far outweigh the need for functionality in getting this phone to sell. For the most part they were right. Now that most of us have realized what this phone cannot do, and that the honeymoon is over (well, for the most part) I hope that Apple will do include some of that basic functionality in future updates. I also hope that the 3G phone is not the answer to this because that will leave out a lot of users who want these basic features but who dont really want 3G.

Image selection,cut,copy,paste

I need to select a portion of the graphics thats been drawn on a panel,
cut this image,copy and paste it on any part of the panel. I have tried using clipRect but am not sure whether this will work.
Please help me doing the cut,copy,paste of these images. It would be nice to have a sample code.

Since your question is to learn and understand how Illustrator works, I would answer it with no. Unlike other programs, Illustrator can't cut parts of raster images because it is mostly vector graphics editing program. It is possible to end up with a rectangular shape of a cut raster images using the method Jacob described but technically behind the scenes it is not cutting the raster image as other raster programs like Photoshop do but it is generating a new image from the old one by a capability in Illustrator called rasterizing. Illustrator can rasterize (regenerate a new raster image) from any selection of objects - vector, raster, and both at a specified resolution using commands like Rasterize and Flatten Transparency. You can think of it as automating the process of exporting to a raster file format and placing it back in Illustrator.
For that reason, I would recommend to cut raster images in other programs like Photoshop and place them in the desired size in Illustrator or use clipping paths and Opacity masks to hide unwanted parts when this is preferable for flexibility or if you find it faster and less hassle than cutting the placed image outside of Illustrator.

Getting rid of Multiple Spaces in Code View (after Copying/Pasting)

I'm trying to find a way to get rid of multiple spaces between words in Dreamweaver CS3's code view.
Oftentimes, when I copy/paste text from elsewhere (e-mail, website, etc), the Dreamweaver code shows up with multiple spaces. Normally, that wouldn't be problem -- except that my blog's auto-tag plug-in doesn't detect selected phrases when there are multiple spaces between words, e.g., it'll detect "Swiss Alps" in a post but not "Swiss Alps" (notice the extra space between words in the second phrase).
If at all possible, I'd like to be able to keep Dreamweaver's text formatting option when I copy and paste, as that means I don't need to manually put words in bold/italics.So, is there a way to keep that option while getting rid of all the extra spacing between words?
By the way, I'm familiar with Wordpress CSS, but not with Dreamweaver CSS. Not sure if there's any difference.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I make it a point to never paste formatted text into HTML pages. Formatted text from MS Office usually contains a variety of junk you don't want and I don't have that much faith in MS Word code removal tools.
Bold and Italics from Word or Outlook should be changed to current HTML tags of <strong> for bold and <em> or emphasis for italics anyway. Also see Logical Tags here:

Feature Request: Disable target tabs setting destination for copy paste

It might have seemed like a good idea at the time but pasting to the targeted layer causes way more problems than it solves. If for instance if I have 10 video tracks which is quite common and wanted to copy and paste a clip to track 10, I have to turn off the target buttons on all 9 tracks below to do that. I do know about option drag which works but sometimes if you're zoomed out you can't get a hold of the clip you are trying to copy. Also I may need one of those layers to help me copy to the right time but now next edit function doesn't stop on them anymore.
What is important is being able to select which tracks you want PPro to stop at when you hit the next edit keys. For instance if I'm doing a color pass I don't want to stop on audio edits or gfx edits. So If I go through that whole process of turning these things off just to clone a clip I then have to turn them all back on. IMO it doesn't make sense to share these two functions with the target buttons and it's just too tedious in the first place to use the target buttons to set paste destination.
What I think would make sense would be an option that says copy paste follows target selection or copy paste to same layer. Then the target buttons would mainly effect which media in your timeline you want to focus on which is way more important IMO. This could also be done with an extra keyboard function. IE paste to same track or paste to targeted track and have both functions available.
Also I think you should have the option of stopping on the ins and outs with the next edit buttons. It's very common to use an in or out as a quick marker for a point in the timeline where there isn't an edit yet.

Yes I know about alt dragging. Not so great to copy a one second clip in an hour long seq way down. That's the point of it. As it is now it will likely copy to a different track then you want it to so you have to go over and start clicking all kinds of buttons to get the thing to not over write something and maybe / probably all off or all on for the target buttons is nothing close to what you need and you had the buttons how you wanted in the first place. And after you paste you have to click more buttons to set that up again.
So for one: this method of targeted copy / paste is not efficient at all, and two: sharing two totally different functions for the target buttons is not a good idea. A very simple fix is to provide the option of copy / paste to same tracks.
This is an opportunity to do it better than FCP because FCP would copy and paste to the same tracks but it had very bad control over which edits the program stopped on using the next / prev edit keys. It's much more efficient to only stop on the video edits and usually one or two tracks when doing a color pass. In FCP you had to disable the audio tracks to get it to ignore them so that you're not pushing the up and down buttons 5 times more than necessary but then you couldn't hear the audio. When you're doing color you want to hit the button once and be on the next shot. With my suggestion you get to focus on exactly what you want and copy / paste isn't a button-fest. This is like golf. Fewer strokes wins!

Acrobat 9.0 pro extended: copying / pasting highlights to word

I've highlighted a number of paragraphs in a document, thinking that I would then just be able to quickly select the highlights and copy and paste them into a word doc. Are you using the Touch up text tool?
Check document properties and see if there is any security options enabled.

Copy/Paste difference in newer versions

Hello, I developed some problems with my Acrobat Standard 7.0 install when trying to update to 7.1 (it wasn't recognizing my CS2 install disk as the correct source disk it was requesting) so in the mean time I downloaded the latest version so I could access PDF files. I do a lot of copying and pasting from my professors' Powerpoint notes that have been coverted to PDF. In 7.0 I could select all the content, copy and paste into Word and the breaks between each slide did not copy over (which is what I want).
Now with the newer version the page breaks come along with the copied content, and I cannot figure out how to get rid of them. When I turn on display of formatting symbols in Word I see a small black square where these hard page breaks are, and nothing I do seems to make them go away short of pasting the content into a plain text editor then pasting into Word, but I lose all other formatting that way as well which isn't working for me either.
Should I just hunt around for a download of the 7.0 version of the free reader, or was this functionality related to having the full version?

I verified my clipboard settings looked as the attached image and it still did not seem to work. I also tried every combination of options and none of them worked either.
Work Flow: I will highlight the paths and copy them, then in the embroidery software when I hit paste, the mouse cursor turns into the processing icon for a split second like it's trying to paste, but nothing ever shows up in the embroidery software.
I reinstalled Illustrator CS4 alongside CS5 this morning, and tried the same copy/paste process with CS4 (from an illustrator file created in CS5)... works like a charm. I realize that downgrading to CS4 is not the solution. However, not being able to correctly operate the copy/paste commands is toying with my ego...

Is Copy Paste Pans & Zooms Possible in Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor Slideshow?

In the Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor, someone wants to create a unique pan and zoom effect for one photo and be able to apply it the the rest of the photos in the Filmstrip without having to do that on an individual photo basis.
In the Slide Show Editor, Edit Menu/Apply Pan & Zoom to All Slides or Apply Pan & Zoom to Selected Slide(s) does not get the job done. Instead it looks like it just applies the default Photoshop Elements pan and zoom. I have investigated several routes to the goal unsuccesful and have concluded that Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor offers no such copy paste pans & zoom feature.
I have detailed how to add more than one pan & zoom per slide, how to get the pan & zoom copy/paste job done in Premiere Elements, either doing all the pan & zoom in Premiere Elements or creating the pan & zoom in Photoshop Elements for one slide, using Send to Premiere Elements, Break Apart Adobe Photoshop Elements Slideshow, copy/paste of the transferred pan & zoom. Believe it or not, that does work. I know that there will be skeptics who feel that the pan & zoom timing would be distored, but....This person does not have or want Premiere Elements in the equation. So, I am looking for a way out for her.
I am posting the question here for someone to confirm my conclusion or offer a way that has escaped me. If someone has found a way, he/she will be fully created for the contribution and thanked.

How to duplicate calendar events copy paste?

I am trying to build my schedule on calendars with my iPad. I would like to put in my work schedule but I don't work the same days every week. I am looking for a way to copy paste/duplicate entries so I don't have to keep inputting them. Because I don't work the same days each week/month I can't use the repeat feature. I have tried a long press to copy and paste but it moves the whole event and doesn't duplicate it. Is there a way to do this? I have found that I can do this on my Macbook Pro in iCal and then it updates the iPad through iCloud but I would like to do it with my iPad because I have the iPad and iPhone with me all the time and the Macbook stays at home.

As you know by now, there is now way to copy and paste (drag and drop duplicate) iPad Calendar events. However, I have found a workaround that allows you to duplicate an event and place the duplicates in various dates on your Calendar. NOTE: This is probably not too practical for making a single copy, but it does save time and keystrokes for multiple copies. In Calendar, tap on the event you want to duplicate and select Edit. In the Edit window select Repeat. In the Repeat window select Every Day, then tap Done to take you back to the Edit menu. Tap End Repeat and select an end date that will give you the number of copies you want (e.g., if the original event date is 11/12 and you want 5 copies, select 11/17 as the End Repeat date. Tap Done twice to return to the Calendar. Then just drag the Repeats/Copies to the various dates where you want them placed (works best in Month view). When you finish each drag/drop, you will get a "This is a repeating event" pop-up window; you need to select "Save for this event only."

JTable help - trying to copy/paste a row in a JTable

Geez, JTable is such a pain..... I am trying copy a range of rows within a JTable using an Abstract Table Model). I need to use this Abstract model as I have a custom String Tokenizing routine which accesses a flat text file which is my "table" so-to-speak.....
The sequence of events are:
1. Highlight the selected rows via the Mouse
2. Select "Copy" from a menu pull down which then runs
my copy method which resides in my abstract table model,which properly figures out which cells I need to copy (see below code), and opens up new rows at the bottom
of the JTable.
I am trying to automatically take those selected cells and then paste them into the opened up rows at the end of the table when choosing "Paste" from the menu.
Here is the copy method, and the code that calls it from my main application. I am having a bit of trouble trying to figure out the Paste routine which is where I need help.
Sorry if this is a bit redundant, but I've been struggling with it...... I know that the System Clipboard is available, but I just cant get that to work for me...
Does 1.4.1 have an "easy" way to do this so I don't have to re-invent the wheel ????

Extract All Embedded Files in All Folders and Save Each? Copy/Paste from PDF to Word?

I have most of what I need here, but I’m missing 2 important pieces.
#1) I want to copy/paste from all PDF files in a folder and paste the copied data into a single Word file.
It works fine if I have ONLY Word docs in my folder. When I have PDF files and Word files, the contents of the Word files are copied in fine, but the contents of the PDF files seem to come in as Chinese, and there is no Chinese in
the PDF, so I have no idea where that’s coming from.
#2) I want to extract all embedded files (in all my Word files) and save the extracted/opened file into the folder. Some embedded files are PDFs and some are Excel files.

Based on the code, you were insert the file via the code Selection.InsertFile. I am trying to reproduce this issue however failed. I suggest that you insert the PDF file manually to see whether this issue relative to the specific file. You can insert PDF
file via Insert->Text->Object->Text from file.
If this issue also could reproduced manually, I would suggest that you reopen a new thread in forum to narrow down whether this issue relative to the specific PDF file or Word application.

We can save the embedded spreadsheet via Excel object model. Here is an example that check the whether the inlineshape is an embedded workbook and save it to the disk for you reference:

And since the Word object model doesn't provide API to save the embedded PDF, I would suggest that you get more effective response from PDF support forum to see whether it supports automation. If yes, we can export the PDF as embedded spreadsheet like code
absolve.
