Is there a way to allow my users to have an option to either select a customer name from a drop down Select List or be able to type it in...

This is an excellent option for another application but in this one I would prefer a drop down list to allow my users to see all the orders (to pick from the list) or type it in if they can't find it in the list...
I know how to create a drop down select list but not sure what to do to allow users to be able to manually type in as well...

How do I select a item from a drop down list on a web in Safari On An. IPad 2. The list apears and disapears só QuickClips I cannot TAP anything On The list Quickly enough.

I have a question about creating a Java Script withing Acrobat pro. This is what i would like to do: I created a drop-down menu with several selection entries. Upon the customer making one of the selection entries, i would like for the correct fields that i created to become visible and all other fields to hide. Is this even possible to do? The reasoning behind this is because we have a form that customers have to generate in order to request access to certain financial accounts; we have over 20 different types of accounts and for each instance the customer has to fill out the same form. By creating a drop down menu, i can use the same form by just changing the drop-down selection and clicking on the designated fields for that selection. At this time i have over 20 different forms that poing to 20 different account requests and i would hate to send the form 20 different times to one person. The reason i can not add all fields desired for all accounts is due to the fact that the form would be filled with hundreds of checkmarks and instructions thus making the process too tideous for the customer. Hope you guys can help out.

The good news is, it can be done (and it has been done).
There are a few things to be aware of, however.
The most important is that the form must be planned well, which means that you must think carefully about your logic and even more so about your field naming (hierarchical field names are your friend). One fundamental issue, you have to be aware of, is that this form no longer will be a "standard form". The consequence of this is that you may have to be aware that you might get into trouble when you have to prove that your user filled out that particular standard form (talk to your compliance and forms management people about that).
You also may have to decide whether the form should be usable in Reader. And, if so, how much you want to spend on the right to do so. You will see below why…
There are actually two approaches for dynamically showing/hiding parts of a form. If your form can be separated between a fixed first page (where you also have the account type selection), and a variable part (depending on the selection), you could use Templates, which you spawn according to the selection, and delete pages when you change the selection. This approach is very easy to implement, but requires Reader Extensions Server to allow it to work in Reader; Acrobat Pro's extended rights are not sufficient for that.
The other approach is showing/hiding fields. If you did your homework well, it would be very easy to first hide all subsequent fields, and then show the ones you need in two lines of code. This approach does not require extended rights for Reader at all, as long as your forms will always have the same number of pages, for each of your account types. This approach also works for the cases where the differences between the individual forms are very small. It does also work for showing/hiding bigger chunks of the form. In that case, you might create the "background" separately, and then put it as an icon into a button field which you will show/hide together with the carefully placed on top of it active fill-out fields.
There is a third possibility, which Adobe Propaganda probably would suggest, and that woudl be subforms in LiveCycle Designer. The consequence is, however, that you won't have PDF forms, but proprietary XFA forms instead. And you may have more developing and maintenance work than with the other approaches.
Back to your original question: you could use a Keystroke script evaluating event.changeEx of the combo box field. Depending on that, you would run your action to set up the according form part. The other way to do it would be evaluating event.value in the onBlur event. The latter would have the advantage that the selection has been made, and you get a bit more time to set up the form (this may in fact be an issue, particularly with Acrobat 9 and 10, which may take their time to show/hide fields).
Another possibility instead of a drop down (combo box field) would be a popup, where you would have a button to press, and the list of selections pops up. This second method uses app.popUpMenuEx().

How can I stop Firefox clicking when I select an option from a drop-down menu? It's bloody annoying.

When I select an option from the pull-down menus, or a link from right-clicking on the forward or back buttons, it makes a click sound. I'm using this on a machine that I use for recording and I don't want clicks on my soundtrack. How can I turn it off - I've looked through about:config and preferences but haven't seen any way to select or disable such a feature.
I'm using FF 8.0 on Ubuntu Studio.

It could be a Ubuntu Studio sound preference. You may have to turn off mouse click sound effects in the system.

How to remove character names from the drop down

I was writing off screen dialogue. Normally I would write FRED (O.S.) but when I did this, Story treats it as a new character - different dot in the outline. In trying to correct it I now have four different instances of the FRED character that pop up in the character drop down list. How can I make the ones I don't want go away? How do I indicate a character is off screen without creating a new character?

I hadn't noticed this as I use a (VO) tag under the character name rather than (OS) but this is a good point. I agree, simply ignoring anything in parantheticals is a good way to go on this one. It all goes to the same name then. Good ideas.
Not sure about all the formal formatting issues as I'm really an experimental filmmaker so I don;t get that involved int he formaities but can't you also simply write these as follows:

Selection from one Drop down populates a second drop down list

I have a form connected to a database. The database contains columns for project number, name, company name, address, etc.
The first drop down I would select a distinct project number, once selected I'd like the second drop down to contain a selection set of all the companies assigned to that distinct project number.
I'm assuming that this is possible?

The 4th example in the Webinar is what we used to auto populate a users contact information when selecting their name from a drop down list. This name drop down has all the names in a particular table of the data base, we would like to filter that down by first selecting a project number from a drop down list which would cause the names to filter down to just those associated with the project number picked.
Is there scripting that can be done that can accomplish this? We can get a single name to show in the drop down but it doesn't seem to want to return a list. Any thoughts?

Hi,
I have a table (vendor) that holds vendor ID, Contact Name,
Contact Phone, and Contact Email fields. I have another table
(master) that is holding many other fields, but includes the
Contact Name, Contact Phone, and Contact Email fields.
I'm populating the master fields based only on records coming
from the vendor table. So if I add in a new row, I can use a drop
down to select the Contact Name from the ones input on the vendor
table.
Here is what I'm trying to do: I want to select the Contact
Name from the drop down. I want the Contact Phone and Contact Email
to populate themselves based on the Contact ID. I could do this in
CF using a bind, but I'm trying to see if there is an SQL statement
I can write that would do this for me.

If you don't know how to select data by joining two tables, I
have heard good things about the book, Teach Yourself SQL in 10
Minutes by Ben Forta.
Not related to your question, but storing identical data in 2
different tables is a bad idea. If you intend to write databases,
it's worth your while to learn data modelling.

How do I configure a dynamic table with Data-Drop Down selections to store separate values?

I am attempting to use LiveCycle to create an Order Form that uses an ODBC to a SQL database. When a user makes a selection, a separate column in the table references the "Item #" associated in the SQL table, and generates a corresponding barcode.
My problem is that when I select an Item from the drop down list, all the items in the table change. What am I missing here to separate the rows as different line items? I tried adding a [*] to the end of the connection string, and that allows me to select different options but does not generate the "Item #" or "Barcode" field.
The screenshot below shows the basic form. When I select any of the data drop downs, all of the Items change.
I used the auto generated script for the "Add Row +" button shown below. Is this my issue? Or do I need to alter the way I'm setting up the Data Binding in for my Data Drop Down?

Hi There,
The problem doen not seem to be with GET V and GET P, rather it seems to be with GET and SET.
Also, you have defined a server event, this causes server round trip. Are you using the server event "Process Type" by defining an Event Handler EH_ONPROCESSTYPE etc ? if you are ot implementing the server event handling, then remove the Server event setting from GET P. If you are using the server event handling then let us know so that the problem can be diagnosed in a proper way.
I feel that you put a break point in SET method and one in GET method.
When user selects the value in dropdown, system call the SET method and value is SET, now a view refresh happens and GET method is called when the view is getting loaded.
So you can check what value is getting set in SET method and what is happening in GET method.
I am sure that some code in GET method may be the culprit or event handler coding bug if you are handling server event.

How to get my usernames to appear from the drop down box then password automatically put in?

=( ugh...
I used to have my settings where it remembered my user name from the drop down box - so I would just type the first letter of my user name and a drop down box would appear and I could just click on my user name for that particular site and my password would automatically fill in...
I changed something the other night and can't remember what the heck I did... now it won't remember ANY user name OR password or like on face book it has my user name and password there automatically when I open up the log in face book page.
So I would like to know if anyone knows what needs to be clicked and unclicked to make it so:
I start typing my user name and the drop down box appears with user names and then my password automatically fills.. I DO NOT want all my user names and passwords already IN the forms when I first open the website... but for me to actually type in a letter and then it fills it... like it used to =(

Enabling certain functions from a drop down menu

I am using the run-time menu along with case statements to control the flow of my program. I would like to ensure that a certain option is disabled until a number of other options have been selected. It is for a near field emissions scanning program. Basicly I would like to make sure that the file path and any notes about the sweep (product serial number, position, mode) are entered prior to selecting "run sweep" from the drop down menu. I know that an option can be disabled permenately by selecting disabled and grayed while the run-time menu is being setup, but this not what I want to do. I simply the "run sweep" option to be disabled until the sweep info and file path have been setup. How can I go about doing this? Thanks everyone!

On the block diagram, right click on the list control, select Create -> Property Node. Usually this will create a Visible property node. Left click on the word Visible, and select Disabled Items [ ] from the list. Then right click again and select Change to Write. You can then wire a numeric 1D array into the property node. Whatever numbers are in the array, those corresponding elements in the list will be disabled. So you can disable whatever you want before a certain action, and then use the property node again to enable items after the action is done. To enable all items, wire in an empty numeric array.

Information Broadcaster --can't add recipient from the drop-down menu

Hi,
When I create the setting in the information broadcaster, on Recipient tab I can type in the users separated by semi colon, but when I select user(s) from the drop-down menu the recipient field is filled with 'on' 'on' and when I click check the error message says 'on' is not a valid user.
The same happens when I select a role from dropdown menu.
In short I can schedule the reports with manually entered recipients but can't select recipient from dropdown menu.
Have you guys run into this situation and got solution?
it's BW3.5 SPK16, mail server is configured, users are maintained in SU01 with valid email addresses.

I did try to add my own user id which is a valid user from dropdown menu but got an 'on' on the field. When I typed my user id on the field, it accepted it. Basically the pop-up selection screen from the drop down menu is not transfering the correct values to the field. Very wierd?
Help me out Gopi if you are the Gopi I know.
