Select messages without reading them

On iPad , is there a way select messages without having to open and read them? I have Mail synced on my laptop and iPad and I have read the messages on the laptop but dont want to re-read them all, and want to selectively choose some as 'read' but not delete.

MobileMe syncs between all my devices. And depending on the type of POP account you've been using, it may be possible to set it up as Exchange. For example after all this time, I just learned I could set up my Hotmail account as Exchange. I had originally set it up as POP, which was uber annoying, but once I found out how to set it up as Exchange, it now also syncs between all devices.

we are receiving short messages that are charged at USD 1.5 when opened. How can i deleted this messages before opening them?

Tap on "Edit" then you will get the option to select the circle to the left of the message for deletion. Tap "Delete x (number of) messages" displayed in red in the bottom left of the window.

IMac 9.1 has stopped playing DVDs, ejects them after about ten seconds without reading them

This morning my iMac has stopped playing DVDs altogether. It had been struggling to play them before, but now it won't even read them.
I'm running a 9.1, so the warranty is well past due. Not sure if there's anything I can do at this point to fix it, tried to manually eject the SuperDrive in Applications (as per a troubleshooting method) but that doesn't work either. Anyone know a way to fix this?

I would start first with some basic resets, do a SMC AND PRAM reset first, do each 2-3 times and then test. If you don't know how please click Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. If those don't work then I suspect your SuperDrive is either dirty or worn out. You can go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit. If that fails then take the machine in for service.

It needed a replacement optical drive installing. The problem often relates to the eject mechanism.
You could try cleaning the drive.

How do i stop Mail from downloading all my old messages without deleting them

    i've just bought a new 13 inch macbook pro, and i'm very happy with it. Being sort of new to apple i still have some problems though.
the main one concerns mail:   How do I prevent my laptop from downloading thousands of old messages i had stored on my gmail account?
let me be clearer: i set mail up and it instantly started downloading tons of old messages that i don't want stored on my mac, since it only has 128gb storage, but i'd still like to be able to look for them in case I needed to. so i don't want to permanently erase them, get rid of them here to save some space.
is that possible? and if yes how?
I also have an other problem with Mail and it's the fact that gmail doesn't let me send pages files...it says it could be a dangerous file so it stops me.
any solutions?

Unchecking Mail will do nothing at all.
And as Gmail is an Imap account it will download all mail in the account to the client.
If this is unwanted behaviour use a different email system (a POP system) or remove the mail from the Gmail server.

Macbook 1.1 spits out discs without reading them since upgrading to Leopard

Ever since I upgraded my mac to Leopard OS X 10.6.6 (legit) I've not been able to use my scanner, I can print ok but can't scan, But most importantly I can't read any discs.
When I put them in the disc drive it tries and then just spits them out after having a think about it.
I've tried multiple discs all with the same results, discs that i've tried on other macs and work fine.
Because of the age of the Mac its out of warranty.
Can anyone help? or point me in the right direction?

Im having the same problem. However, I fixed the CD problem by using a disk cleaning disk. Now it will read write CDs but still ejects DVDs

I need to know how to open the messages app without reading a message someone sent to me..

I have my read receipts on because I like for people to know that I got their messages (most of the time).. But somebody texted me and I don't want to read their message. If I tap the messages app, then it will automatically pull that message up. Is there any way I can set my phone to where I can click the messages app to create a new message without reading the one this person sent to me?

Turn off Send Read Receipts. Then open the Messages app.

Suppress messages without opening

I used to hold a click and select a number of messages without opening them,on an old version.
Mail 8.1 does not seem to work that way ? Sorry to ask such a basic question but it seems too simple for Mail Help to understand ?!

To select multiple messages in mail.
select a message
hold shift key
select the last message you want to delete. you can release the shift key.
all the messages in between will be selected as well.
optional: if you want to select additional messages, hold the cmd key and select the additional message.

How can I forward a message without downloading it ?

I'm trying to forward a message on messages counter change event by adding a listener on my INBOX folder:

No, there's no way to do that with the base IMAP protocol.
There's some new RFCs that would enable that, but JavaMail doesn't
support them, and I don't believe they're widely implemented by servers yet.

HELP! When I drag the graphics pen, it selects objects without clicking

Having a number of problems: the graphics pen selects objects without clicking them and "slides", the machine is beachballing for long periods and applications keep quitting unexpectedly. Please help!!!!

Automator/Applescript action to redirect selected messages individually?

I have been studying Automator to see if I could create a workflow that takes all currently selected messages and sends them one by one to a fixed e-mail address. I want to use this to select junk mail and send them to the junk mail trainer address. Nothing more than for each message a Cmd-E, type-junk-mail-trainer-address, Cmd-D.
I haven't been able to find out (I spent maybe one to two hours on this) to get even one thing working. Now, before I go in deep and try to learn AppleScript, is there may be some beast already out there?

After having looked on the internet (Google, mainly and clicking through) I have concluded that as far as people have tried this they have failed because Mail's redirect AppleScript command is broken (at least until 10.4.6). Discussions go on at depth regarding debugging this broken stuff.
I have also not found any usable script.
So, my conclusion is that this very handy tool that would work fine with Mac OS X Server's junkmail/notjunkmail trainer addresses for spam is currently not possible. Maybe something for Apple to provide in mail (train/untrain mail server command)

What’s the client version on the recipient’s side?
Does the recipient use AutoArchive to save the outlook data?
When a message is archived, it's copied to the archive file, then deleted from the server.
If the message was not saved to the Archive, where the message go to?
Please update the exchange server to latest patch.
What’s more, do you mean change the text message of ‘was deleted without reading’ to the mobile devices? If yes, I couldn’t find a way to change the text messages.

Why do I get this message , Items can't be copied to "Desktop" because you don't have permission to read them.

Using Network share io try to copy over my Windows files to the desktop of my iMac which I have done many times before successfully and now I get a message

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
