Select multiple mail messages

I just upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion.  In Lion and all previous versions of Mail, I was able to click and drag over a bunch of messages to delete blocks of unwanted messages at the same time. In  the newer version I cannot seem to do that.  I can only select one message at a time or shift click to select a block.  Anyone know of a way around this "improvement"?  Thanks- Dave

If I have 10 consecutive messages that I want to delete (which is common for me), in the previous version, I simply dragged across them and hit Delete.  Now I have to click the first and then shift click the second.  It doesn't seem like much, but the old way is simpler and faster for me.

  • How do I open multiple Mail messages at once?

I can select multiple Mail messages, but how do I get all of them to open at once? (I actually do want all of them open; I'm not just trying to mark them as Read.) If I double-click on the multiple selection, the first click un-selects all but one message, which the second click opens. I assumed there'd be an Open in the Edit menu, or a Command-O, or an Open button for the Tool Bar, or an Open on a right-click menu or other special menu, but I can't see any of those. The closest I've come so far is Forward, which quotes them all in one reply, but that isn't really what I want. What am I missing?

  • Drag and drop multiple mail messages into finder

I am trying to move multiple mail messages into finder folders for organization and filing purposes.  I know it will save these as mail files but that is what I would like anyway.  It lets me drag and drop one message at a time but does not let me do it for multiple messages at a time.  Does anybody know how to do this?

You might consider using the "Archive" capability of Mail.  Look at Archive in Mail Help.

  • Having problem deleting all but one particular mail from the iPhone 4S mail inbox. I can delete mail either by the trash can or using edit, selecting the mail message and deleting.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away. Any ideas?

I am having a problem deleting all but one particular mail message from my inbox. I delete by either using the trash can icon for individual mail, or using edit, selecting the mail message (s) and clicking delete.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away regardles of what I do including deleting all from the trash.  Any ideas?

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.
Glad to hear that it worked for you.

  • How to open multiple mail messages in their own windows

    All:
Anyone know of a keyboard command to open several Mail messages in their own windows? For example, I can't highlight all messages in the Inbox and then double click one of them to open them all in separate windows.
Surprisingly, Mail lacks an Open... command.
    TIA,
    Mike
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Just select multiple messages and hit Return.

While in your Messages app, swipe down from the top > tap SELECT and then check the boxes next to the emails you want to select for marking.

  • Another user's calendar appears when a date is selected in Mail message

Just upgraded to Lion on our family Mac. My wife and I each have an account on the Mac and share an Apple ID for purchases.
We each have an iPhone and have separate iCloud accounts. The shared Apple ID is used only for the App Store on the phones.
iCloud is working great, and syncing correctly with our individual accounts on the Mac.
But if I select a date that appears in a Mail message in my account on my Mac, the preview window for making an iCal event appears with my wife's calendar events, not mine!
If I go ahead and create the event anyway, it correctly appears in my calendar, not in my wife's.
Any way to prevent the display of another user's calendar when making an event from a date in a Mail message from your own account on a Mac running Lion?

    Duplicate thread!

  • Is there any way to select all mail messages and delete them?

I get lots of mail, and most of it I don't keep, or keep over on my MacBook. Is there a way to select all the Mail messages and delete them, or do I need to go through them one at a time?
    many thanks!

In your inbox in the phone you can mark the mails one by one and then tab delete.
In Trash you can delete all with one tab.

  • Downloaded Mountain Lion and now not able to select multiple email messages at a time for deletion what gives?

Downloaded ML last night now one little glitch seems to be that I cannot select multiple messages at a time to delete. With the massive amount of email I receive, this is a problem. Cannot seem to find any simple fixes in preferences. Any ideas?

you could use one hand to do this, before ML. select one email and drag up/down with the cursor to select more. selecting/shift key is the normal multiple selection operation. that's two handed.
if there is empty space at the bottom, it works.
i did submit this through the feedback process. i hope the functionality returns.

  • Select multiple mails in a conversation

    Hi,
My emails are organized by conversation. Great feature.
My problem is that I sometime receives hundreds of emails in one conversation and I delete some of them and only keep good ones.
I try to select multiple emails at once using cmd or shift: no success. I can only select one email at a time and therefore delete emails one by one OR the whole conversation...
    Any idea ?

I have no third-party plugin installed on my machine (at least for Mail).
I'm trying to click them in the preview panel, where they are numbered.
I can select multiple emails in the list panel when conversation is expanded.
With no preview in the list panel, it's pretty hard to know which one needs to be selected.
That's why I'm trying to make a multiple selection in the preview panel...

  • Drag and drop multiple mail messages into a folder in finder

    Hello All,
I want to archive emails into folders in the finder. I can do this by dragging and dropping individual emails but not bulk emails.
Does anywone know the best way of doing this?
The reason I want to do it is once we have compleated a contract with a client, I want to archive all the messages, pictures, contacts etc into one finder folder. This way, my mail app wont keep growing horribly in size every year.
    Thank you

Is the Archive function within Mail of any use?
    Archive messages
You can store messages in an Archive mailbox so that you can quickly find them later when you’re ready to take action.
Select one or more messages to archive. If you select a conversation, all messages in the conversation are archived.
Choose Message > Archive or click the Archive icon in the Mail toolbar. An Archive mailbox is created for each account whose messages you archive. For example, if you archive a message sent to your MobileMe account and a message sent to your Gmail account, an Archive mailbox is created for each account.Archived messages remain in the Archive mailbox until you delete or move them. Depending on the account type, the Archive mailbox is stored on the mail server.
    Regards,
    Colin R.

  • Intermittently, when I have selected multiple Inbox messages, I can no longer move any messages around. Restarting fixes it.

OS: ROSA Desktop Fresh R3 release 2012.1 for x86_64
    TB version: mozilla-thunderbird-24.4.0-69-mib2012.1.x86_64 dom 30 mar 2014 21:33:46 CEST
Since when: I am pretty sure only this version does it.
Description: Sometimes it happens that I select the last 3 or 4 Inbox messages to move them, but the operation elicits no further reaction from TB other than highlighting the selection. No other message movement works, even in other tabs. Even if I Ctrl-deselect all selections. Everything else seems to work: I receive, read, send messages. I have used it for hours even. Restarting fixes it.
NOTE: Once it happened that I selected the last 5 messages to be moved. Then I waited before completing the operation with rightclick. Then I received a new message. The message DID NOT show up below the selection. Then I rightclicked the selection and moved. The move dragged along the new message as well!! I was lucky to have suspected receiving the new message otherwise I would have never found it in the wrong folder! I have been afraid of multi selections including the last received message ever since.

  • When I select a mail message, there isn't a window that shows the thread and message...That window is gone. I only have the inbox window and the left sidebar with my mailboxes, but no "preview window" that shows the message selected in the inbox window

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I just want to reset mail to the default UI and I can't even figure out how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated..I have no idea how I messed this up!

    Actually there's no bar/dot. I think that's for a previous version... I'll include a screenshot:
As you can see theres no "bar" at the bottom of the window...help?!

  • How do I select multiple messages from one sender in mobile email to delete them all at once?

I know how to select all of the new messages and mark as read. Now how would I do that if I wished to delete all from one sender or have the same subject, after I search the sender or subject?

    Hey Koyster,
Great question. Utilizing iCloud.com, we may be able to purge these emails in a much faster way:
    iCloud: Delete email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2651
    Delete messages
    - On your Mac, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent messages or Command-click to select multiple nonadjacent messages.
    - On your Windows computer, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent messages or Control-click to select multiple nonadjacent messages.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
