Select Path gets me the 'inverse' selection

i'm in Photoshop CS4 for Mac
lately, when I create a path that is some sort of closed shape, and click the 'select path' icon on the Paths palette, I get the inverse selection. Of course i can fix this with 'Invert Selection'. But how can I fix it so that when I 'select path' I get the interior, not the exterior, of the Path.

thanks, but I'm afraid I don't see how that helps me.
here's one thing I notice, I can see in the Path palette that in fact my current path is defined, somehow, as an Inverse path, as the little preview of the path shows the exterior of the path in white. When i start a new path, i see the little preview is giving me the opposite -- the interior is white. So, somehow it's defined one as an Inverse path. I don't know how to change this or how to avoid it happening in the first place.
in the thread you recommended, it suggested playing with the path 'options', which defines how overlapping paths are handled. that doesn't seem to change my 'inverted' status.

For the sake of clarity and to save people time, Todd is asking about the behaviour of the Patch tool when using it to repair the area next to the young lad's head. Todd gets a blurred dark tone pretty much regardless of the options he uses.
IMO that's what I would expect to happen because of the close proximity of the other image elements i.e. the lad's neck and the strong lines of his shirt. I would not choose to use the Patch tool in this situation. Content Aware Fill makes a better stab at it.

Drag Select Inside Points With The Direct Selection Tool While Above An Object?

I'm trying to modify a path in InDesign CS5 (Fig. 2), as it is now I have to select each point individually. Becasue while you're zoomed in (Fig. 1), you can't drag and select the points. When you attempt to do that, you end up dragging the whole image.
Is there a way to drag select inside points with the direct selection tool while your directly above the image with the paths you want to select?

FAIL #1:
No. When you copy paste the Cliiping Path [NOT the frame] into Illustrator, then alter the path and paste back into Indesign, it pastes it back as a FRAME, NOT a CLIPPING PATH.

What you suggested doesn't work or even make sense.
Apprently in InDesign, you can't have a CLIPPING PATH without an IMAGE there to begin with. When a FRAME OBJECT contains an IMAGE the option to convert the object to an UNNASSIGNED OBJECT is greyed-out, as in UNSELECTABLE, as in NOT POSSIBLE, which is another way of saying IMPOSSIBLE, which in most circles pertains to MAJOR FAILAGE.
When you CUT [hold command then press X] the CLIPPING PATH, from the FRAME/OBJECT you can then unassign the object, but when you paste the CLIPPING PATH back in, it invariably pastes the IMAGE along with the CLIPPING PATH, and once again the UNASSIGNED OBJECT is simply an ordinary frame with an image, and thus NO LONGER AN UNASSIGNED FRAME.
People like you make life harder dude, seriously.
Again, like some of the folks above, you're confusing a FRAME PATH [that you can alter and create with the pen tool as well] with a CLIPPING PATH. They are NOT the same thing.
Know the difference between the two before you feel inclined to respond.

Error when printing: Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection.

Sometimes when I'm printing in InDesign CS3 the default printer is PostScript and when trying to change it the error "Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection." appears.
It´s the same error as in this unsolved old thread:

Does anyone have a solution to this?

What is the OS? CS3 was not tested on recent OS versions and may not be fully functional. You can export to PDF and print that from Acrobat or Reader.

Why can't SQL buffer the inner result?
Does anyone have an idea on how to achieve executing the function only once? My original called function is quite heavy and returning a user defined type. Adding predicates, the function is executed 3 or 4 times!

Aperture not making adjustments to selected image but to the previously selected image. Any ideas?

After making adjustment to an image I select the next image to work on. However, none of my adjustments appear to apply to the image. Then I noticed that the image I previously adjusted is messed up. The adjusts for my second image (the image selected) are actually being made to the previously worked on image (which is not selected). Any ideas on what is going on and how to correct this? Thank you for you help.

My first suggestion would be to uninstall Perfect Layers and see if the strange behaviour is still happening. From what you've described in your post, this wasn't happening before the plugin was installed?

When selecting "bookmark this page" the location select window right side and bottom are cut off, no visible buttons

After I select "bookmark this page" from the bookmarks menu, and then select "show all the bookmarks folders" with the pulldown arrow, the bookmarks folder list appears but the right side and the bottom are cut off so that no buttons are showing. Trying to resize the window does not work. Double clicking on the desired folder selects the folder name for editing, however, the caption at the top says "bookmark saved" and sometimes it is actually where I would like it to be added.

After finding that I did not have a chrome folder, or userchrome.css file, I installed ChromEdit Plus. Through this app I was able to create a chrome folder and the userchrome.css file using the information from finitarry. The problem still existed. I then edited userchrome.css changing the values to "min-width:800px !important; min-height:800px !important; " The results were; same problem, just bigger. This code changes the folderview pane in the add bookmarks window. The problem is the pane expands larger than the window. Let me see if I can clairify, When you select "bookmark this page" the add bookmark "window" opens. to open the folderview pane, click on the down arrow to the right of the folder pulldown menu. The window is not expanding to contain the pane correctly and pushes all the other controls off the screen.

I cannot get past the Language selection setup.

I cant scroll up or down through the languages, but apparently i can reset the ipod by holding the middle button and the menu button. So i am confused on why i cant even click the middle button to choose English.

If none of the 5 R's are able to resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service. The clickwheel needs replacing.

It might help to let the iPod's battery fully drain first and then charge it back up as well before and after working through each of the 5 Rs.

"Sync" is not working correctly. selected playlists even when the "Sync selected playlists" was selected and playlists were checked in the music iTunes library. Do I have a defective iPod touch?

Ever since I bought my ipod touch 4th generation, IOS 4G, 8GB in January 2011, it would not sync selected playlists.
This is even when I have checked 3 things:
1. Under Summary/Options, I've checked "Manually manage music and videos" and "sync only checked songs and video."
2. When I go to the Music tab and attempt to sync, I have already chosen "selected playlists, artists, albums and genres"
3. When I click on "Sync" a window comes up and says "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on the iPod will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library."
Do I have a defective ipod?

   Sync should be an automatic feature that can be triggered manually. Although, I have a two Shuffles, which are obviously not Touches, so they might be different.
   If you have your iPod set to manually manage music, the option to sync only checked songs should not do anything. You have to drag songs manually to the iPod on the sidebar to add music (I've created playlists of only songs I want, then I shift-click the whole thing and drag all of the songs at once to update them, that way I don't have to remember what goes where), and you have to manually select and delete songs from the iPod's 'Music' library on the sidebar to remove them.
   As for syncing the files, on my shuffles, they sync individual songs (for Get Info information changes ONLY) automatically every time I plug them into iTunes, and again if I make any changes to the Get Info stuff while they're plugged in. For example, if I added a song to my iPod playlist, it wouldn't sync it, but if I changed the genre of a song that's already on it, it will automatically sync.

Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection

Dear all,
i'm working on a 36 pages broshure and after i printed the document using AdobePdf engine, and messing with options, suddenly I cannot print on paper. Every time I'm sent back to PostScript option and I get the above error message. i think is something related with PPD but I'm relatively new to in design and I'm afraid I broke something.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

I've managed to resolve the problem by simply rebooting the PC. Thank God it was so simple.
Finally I created a print preset and then printed to Adobe PDF. Project is on its way to priting house

Inverse Selection issue

Everytime I use the pen tool and then convert to selection from the path, it automatically inverses it.
Also when I try to fill the path, it fills the inverse as well.
Anyone know what might be causing this?

You have the Pen tool set to draw inverse paths, check the Options bar and make sure that it's set to Add to path area:

How to have a JComboBox display an item different from the one selected

I have a JTable (single column). I have set this column cell editor to be a JComboBox...

        column_zero.setCellEditor( new DefaultCellEditor(stdComboBox) );I have added a lovString array say {"A", "B", "C") to this stdComboBox. However, when the user selects a value from this list, I need to display a value from another lovString array say {"1", "2", "3"}. So if the user selects A then 1 needs to be displayed.
I have a TableModelListener on this table that is getting me the correct selected index for any of the JComboBoxes on any of the rows. But I am little lost on how to display the value from the 2nd list.

It sets the value of valueToSet string allright.
it also does the model.setValueAt allright....but this triggers a tableChanged event and it goes back up - this is also fine. However, when it now comes back to the this.selectedIndex = , this again returns the index of the original selection and not a -1 (for values not in the ComboBox list). This makes it go into an infinite loop and gives me a StackOverflowError.

In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
• It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
Summary
a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

Script for Always Calling the Direct Selection Tool?

Ok, so first forgive me if this isn't necessarily a scripting question, but I'm hoping it is...
Would it be possible to write a script that, while using the pen tool, would force Illustrator to always switch to the Direct Selection (white) arrow when holding down Ctrl (Cmd)? In my workflow, I never have use for accessing the regular Selection Tool while I'm using the pen tool (or very rarely). In essence, I would just love if Illy's pen tool behaved the same as InDesign's and Photoshop's! Anyone know if something like this is scriptable?
