Select query in a loop
SELECT * FROM MY_T is
CUR_REF OLD_REF
VA2559 VA2468
VA2560 VA2559
VA2635 VA2560
VA2636 VA2635
VA2659 VA2636
VA2660 VA2659 I want to select the CUR_REF which has OLD_REF as CUR_REF in a loop
like
CUR_REF: VA2560 is as OLD_REF of CUR_REF VA2635
and VA2635 is as OLD_REF of CUR_REF VA2636
and VA2636 is as OLD_REF of CUR_REF VA2659
this goes in a loop
Is possible to do a select in loop?
Hi, you can do it in a loop, but also in a single sql-statement:
MHO%xe> with my_t as ( --generating your sample data:
2 select 'VA2559' cur_ref, 'VA2468' old_ref from dual union all
3 select 'VA2560', 'VA2559' from dual union all
4 select 'VA2635', 'VA2560' from dual union all
5 select 'VA2636', 'VA2635' from dual union all
6 select 'VA2659', 'VA2636' from dual union all
7 select 'VA2660', 'VA2659' from dual
8 )
9 --
10 -- actual query:
11 --
12 select a.cur_ref
13 , (select b.cur_ref from my_t b where b.old_ref = a.cur_ref)
14 from my_t a;
CUR_RE (SELEC
VA2559 VA2560
VA2560 VA2635
VA2635 VA2636
VA2636 VA2659
VA2659 VA2660
VA2660
Perhaps using CONNECT BY is also an option here.

How to optimize the select query that is executed in a cursor for loop?
Hi Friends,
I have executed the code below and clocked the times for every line of the code using DBMS_PROFILER.
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST
AS
p_file_id NUMBER := 151;
v_shipper_ind ah_item.shipper_ind%TYPE;
v_sales_reserve_ind ah_item.special_sales_reserve_ind%TYPE;
v_location_indicator ah_item.exe_location_ind%TYPE;
CURSOR activity_c

SELECT *
FROM ah_activity_internal
WHERE status_id = 30
AND file_id = p_file_id;
BEGIN
DBMS_PROFILER.start_profiler ('TEST');
FOR rec IN activity_c
LOOP
SELECT DISTINCT shipper_ind, special_sales_reserve_ind, exe_location_ind
INTO v_shipper_ind, v_sales_reserve_ind, v_location_indicator
FROM ah_item --464000 rows in this table
WHERE item_id_edw IN (
SELECT item_id_edw
FROM ah_item_xref --700000 rows in this table
WHERE item_code_cust = rec.item_code_cust
AND facility_num IN (
SELECT facility_code
FROM ah_chain_div_facility --17 rows in this table
WHERE chain_id = ah_internal_data_pkg.get_chain_id (p_file_id)
AND div_id = (SELECT div_id
FROM ah_div --8 rows in this table
WHERE division = rec.division)));
END LOOP;
DBMS_PROFILER.stop_profiler;
EXCEPTION
WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND
THEN
NULL;
WHEN TOO_MANY_ROWS
THEN
NULL;
END TEST;The SELECT query inside the cursor FOR LOOP took 773 seconds.
I have tried using BULK COLLECT instead of cursor for loop but it did not help.
When I took out the select query separately and executed with a sample value then it gave the results in a flash of second.
All the tables have primary key indexes.
Any ideas what can be done to make this code perform better?
Thanks,
Raj.As suggested I'd try merging the queries into a single SQL. You could also rewrite your IN clauses as JOINs and see if that helps, e.g.
SELECT DISTINCT ai.shipper_ind, ai.special_sales_reserve_ind, ai.exe_location_ind
INTO v_shipper_ind, v_sales_reserve_ind, v_location_indicator
FROM ah_item ai, ah_item_xref aix, ah_chain_div_facility acdf, ah_div ad
WHERE ai.item_id_edw = aix.item_id_edw
AND aix.item_code_cust = rec.item_code_cust
AND aix.facility_num = acdf.facility_code
AND acdf.chain_id = ah_internal_data_pkg.get_chain_id (p_file_id)
AND acdf.div_id = ad.div_id
AND ad.division = rec.division;ALSO: You are calling ah_internal_data_pkg.get_chain_id (p_file_id) every time. Why not do it outside the loop and just use a variable in the inner query? That will prevent context switching and improve speed.

Want to Avoid Loop for all entries with select query !!
Hi Guru's !
This is my following code . I want to avoid loop to improve the performance of program.
data: lt_cuhd type HASHED TABLE OF /sapsll/cuhd WITH UNIQUE key guid_cuhd,
ls_cuhd type /sapsll/cuhd.
data: lt_comments type STANDARD TABLE OF zss_comments,
ls_comments type zss_comments.
data: lv_objkey type string.
select * from /sapsll/cuhd into table lt_cuhd.
loop at lt_cuhd into ls_cuhd.
CONCATENATE ls_cuhd-corder '%' into lv_objkey. " Example 'Mum%'
select * from zss_comments into table lt_comments
where objkey like lv_objkey
AND guid_cuhd = ls_cuhd-guid_cuhd
AND event_id <> ''.
endloop.
I want
New code should be...using all entries no loop required.
*select * from zss_comments into table lt_comments
where objkey like lv_objkey
AND guid_cuhd = ls_cuhd-guid_cuhd
AND event_id <> ''.*why dont you add the object key also to lt_cuhd and once you fetch the data to lt_cuhd loop it and add the '%'
when looping use field symbols so that you dont have to use modify.
then use for all entries using lt_cuhd
i don't you can find a better way to add the % mark apart from looping but by this way only one select query will be done for
zss_comments
Thanks

Thanks in advance.Here is a way to solve this problem.
Choose somewhere before this loop processing to use that select. Therefore, you'll need use FOR ALL ENTRIES <that_loop_table> clause, and in the WHERE condition you need to specify that same fields.
This way, you will have an internal table with all data you'll need to check.
Then, inside your loop statement, use the READ TABLE command with the clause WITH KEY field = value, to read that record and use the value found.
Like this sample:
SELECT bukrs lifnr umsks umskz augdt augbl zuonr gjahr belnr buzei
waers xblnr blart gsber ebeln zfbdt zbd1t zlsch
INTO TABLE tg_bsak
FROM bsak
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN tl_bkpf_sel
WHERE bukrs EQ tl_bkpf_sel-bukrs AND
lifnr IN s_lifnr AND
augbl EQ tl_bkpf_sel-belnr.
LOOP AT tg_bseg INTO wa_bseg.
READ TABLE tg_bsak INTO wa_bsak WITH KEY bukrs = wa_bseg-bukrs
gjahr = wa_bseg-gjahr
belnr = wa_bseg-belnr
BINARY SEARCH.
if sy-subrc = 0.
* do something
endif.
ENDLOOP. -
How to put loop in select query..?
Hi All,
I am setting select query which CRecordSet is going to execute.
Existing query is,
Select branchNumber,Count(*) from branches where branchNumber = %d and dowloadType >%d;
Here %d is getting filled every time with new value. Now this query is getting execute 500 times if 500 branches are there.
We want to improve performance. and want branchnumber and count(*) in One go.
something like,
select branchNumber,Count(*) from Branches where
(branch =1 and dowloadType >2)
(branch =2 and dowloadType >100)
(branch =3 and dowloadType >234)
how can we do that?
Kindly help me on this.
Thanks,
Sachin.Thanks For reply. but here values are coming from different collection from source code.
For e.g. Map[branchNumber][DownloadType] = [1,233],[2,444],[30,234],[5,456].
Now these values i need to insert at the place of S.branch and S.DownloadType
SELECT GB.Branch ,
COUNT(*)
FROM @Sample S
INNER JOIN @GroupBy GB ON GB.Branch = (value from map)
AND GB.DownloadType < (value from map)
GROUP BY GB.Branch; -
Oracle SQL Select query takes long time than expected.
Hi,
I am facing a problem in SQL select query statement. There is a long time taken in select query from the Database.
The query is as follows.
select /*+rule */ f1.id,f1.fdn,p1.attr_name,p1.attr_value from fdnmappingtable f1,parametertable p1 where p1.id = f1.id and ((f1.object_type ='ne_sub_type.780' )) and ( (f1.id in(select id from fdnmappingtable where fdn like '0=#1#/14=#S0058-3#/17=#S0058-3#/18=#1#/780=#5#%')))order by f1.id asc
This query is taking more than 4 seconds to get the results in a system where the DB is running for more than 1 month.
The same query is taking very few milliseconds (50-100ms) in a system where the DB is freshly installed and the data in the tables are same in both the systems.
Kindly advice what is going wrong??

Query in Select query operation
Please excuse me for posting this again.
I'm stuck up with this for 3 days. Lenghty post pls do read and help me.
How is the select query going to be changed in the SAP so that the original database behind it understands it. I want to know the operation of IN operation in where clause where in we can use ranges.
I'm asking this because I'm facing a problem using Native SQL.
Query is like this:
EXEC SQl.
OPEN C1 for
SELECT field1 from table@domain where field2 IN :ABAP_VAR.
ENDEXEC.
EXEC SQL.
FETCH C1 NEXT INTO :VAR1 , :VAR2
ENDEXEC.
Oracle usually recognises this statement IN ( '2222' , '3658' , '6895' )
But here this field that is build dynamically like this is not recognising them as seperate fileds but instead it is taking them as a single string and not selecting anything.
But if a single value is passed it is fetching the data into the cursor. And the code is working fine.
Any help in this is highly appreciable."if a in r_range" is is effectively: does the value held in 'a' comply with the values held in range 'r_range'. Ranges can hold NE, patterns etc so this can get quite complex.
You can see that it is very different from the SQL type IN.
If your range hold several values you could unstrip it into a string varaible so that it ended up having a value something like: ( '2222' , '3658' , '6895' ). Not sure if you need the '(' but it would be something like this:
eg,
assuming your range is simple and only holds 'I' and 'EQ' values:
data v_string type string.
loop at r_range.
concatenate v_string '@''' r_range-low '''@' into v_string.
endloop.
REPLACE
ALL OCCURRENCES OF '@'
IN v_string
WITH ' '.
Then you can use:
SELECT field1 from table@domain where field2 IN :v_string. -

you are checking the work area in the SELECT. IN WHERE condition of the select u should specify fields in either of the tables pa0002 , pa0105 for data population.
The select is on the database table and not on the work area.for checking the data in the work area do this way:
loop at it_dob into wa_dob.
if wa_dob-e_dob between the range u want (w_sysdate AND w_edit_sysdate)
endif.
endloop.
ie: wa_dob-e_dob >w_sysdate AND wa_dob-e_dob < w_edit_sysdate or

How to store data in a variable in select query
Hi,
Below is the select query in which i want to store the data in variable but i am getting runtime error as the fields are more as compared to variable,the declaration is necessary for it due to the reteriving for data.
Please provide me guidelines how to do it.
DATA: BEGIN OF ITSC01 OCCURS 0,
PRUEFLOS LIKE QALS-PRUEFLOS,
MBLNR LIKE QAMB-MBLNR,
LGORT LIKE MSEG-LGORT,
END OF ITSC01.

try this:

Can I retrieve data from a multiple select query?
I recently have been able to consolidate many queries into one large one, or into large compound queries. I found an instance where I am using a select query in a for loop that may execute up to 400 times. I tried building a huge compound query, and using DB Tools Execute Query vi, followed by the DB Tools Fetch Recordset Data vi. The query executes at the database without an error, but the Fetch Recordset Data vi only returns the first instance. Is there a way to retrieve all the data without having to send up to 400 separate select queries?
Sorry I didn't replt earlier, I was on vacation. The query I am using is to check serial numbers, and determine if they are all valid. The programs purpose is to define a serial number to a pre-existing part number. Our company makes inclinometers and accelerometers, and this entire series of LabVIEW programs is designed to automate the calibration and testing of these units. The part number definitions can contain 3 or 4 hundred parameters, so the database itself consistes of 44 tables with potentially several hundred columns per table. It is designed to not only provide definitions to every part number, but also to store all potential raw unit data to be calculated and formed into a report at any time. The logistics of getting that much data in and out of the database have forced me to do things more effeciently. The actual query in question is to take each serial number either manually entered, or automatically picked, and see if they already exist with the part number they are being defined as. If there are any duplicates, then the program will alert the operator that serial numbers x, y, and z for instance have already been asigned as the part number in question. Currently I run a simple query once for each serial number. This works, but there may be 200 serial numbers assigned. Also the serial numbers can contain upper or lower case letters. By making all the serial number letters into capitals, then into lower case, it could mean up to 400 individual queries going out over the LAN. This is a bandwidth hog, and time consuming. I started experimenting with compound queries. The actual query used is below.
SELECT SERIALNO FROM "maintable" WHERE PARTNO = '475196-001' AND SERIALNO = '3000005';SELECT SERIALNO FROM "maintable" WHERE PARTNO = '475196-001' AND SERIALNO = '3000006';SELECT SERIALNO FROM "maintable" WHERE PARTNO = '475196-001' AND SERIALNO = '3000007';SELECT SERIALNO FROM "maintable" WHERE PARTNO = '475196-001' AND SERIALNO = '3000008';SELECT SERIALNO FROM "maintable" WHERE PARTNO = '475196-001' AND SERIALNO = '3000009'
When I execute this query, SQL Server 2000 has no problem with it, but the DB Tools Fetch Recordset Data vi only returns the first match. I think my answer may lie with OR statements. Rather than sending what amounts to potentially dozens of individual queries, I should be able to chain them into one query with a lot of OR statements. As long as the OR statement is not an exclusive OR statement, I think it should work. I haven't tried it yet, and it may take some time to get the syntax right. The query is built in a for loop with the number of iterations equal to the number of serial numbers being defined. Once I get this working I will alter it to include both upper and lower case letters that can be included in the query. Any suggestiona of how the query should be structured would be most helpful, or another way to achieve what I am trying to accomplish.

I nearly made a comment about how the plan doesn't show Bloom filter pruning either - and then I realised why not. The plan you've shown us comes from Explain Plan with literal values present; the trace file shows bind variables with names that are generated when cursor_sharing is set to force or similar - so the run-time plan and the plan from explain plan are almost guaranteed to be different.
Oracle support will need you to supply the plan you get from trying to run the query and then making a call to dbms_xplan.display_cursor() - dbms_xplan in 10g | Oracle Scratchpad If you do this I think you'll find that the pstart/pstop columns contain entries like :BF0000, and you may even find operations link PX JOIN FILTER CREATE / PX JOIN FILTER USE
A couple of generic notes:
if a query does sufficient work to merit parallel execution, then it's usually better to supply the best possible information to the optimizer, which means using literals rather than bind variables - you could try executing the query with the hint /*+ cursor_sharing_exact */ to stop Oracle from turning your literals into binds; it might be the presence of bind variables that's making the optimizer choose a path that has to include bloom filter pruning in your case.
Where you have the to_date() call you've used a four-digit year - which is a very good thing and helps the optimizer - but it's also a good idea to include an explicit format string as well: with a four-digit year this probably won't make any difference, but it avoids any risk of ambiguity for the optimizer.
I made a comment about the P->S stage and bottlenecks - I spent a couple more minutes looking at the plan, and I see the optimizer has used concatentation: in effect it has run three query blocks one after the other and fed the results to the query co-ordinator - in this case the P->S would make no difference to the end-user response time there's always a final P->S to the coordinator, you just happen to have three of them.

<br><br>
also please tell me how much data i can store into an internal table
can i store 5 million records in an internal table ??????
is it good in terms of performance of a program if not please tell me what is the better way of doing dat .
<br><br>
also tell me how secondry indexes help in improving performance of select query
is it good to maintain number of secondry indexes in a standard table or it decreases performance of a standard table .
