Select soundcard for audio output

Hi,
I have two soundcards in my PC and i would like to select which soundcard iTunes uses for output. I know that I can use the "sounds" control panel to set the standard output, but this has three main disadvantages. First, I have to restart iTunes in order to use the other soundcard; second, since this is a systemwide setting, it affects all the other programs that use standard sound out, too; and third, there is no possible way for me to make iTunes playback sound on BOTH cards.
Does anyone know a trick, a hint, a cheat, maybe a plugin or something i can add in an ini-File in order to achieve the things described above?
PC, Windows XP, AMD Sempron, 1 GB DDR Ram, 300Gb HD Windows XP Pro latest iTunes, latest WIndowsupdates, latest drivers installed.

I am wondering the same thing. I have a USB audio device that I wish to output Quicktime/iTunes audio to without changing the default audio device for the computer.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

Have a look in the examples under Hardware Input and Output|Sound (LV6.1)
Dunno where it is under 6i, but the files are there.

  • How do I use the USB port on my MBP for audio output

I am a fairly new commercial sound provider running live sound and the occassional itunes type playback at events.  I currently use a Y cable from the headphone output of my MBP osX  into the RCA inputs on my audio mixer.  On an older HP laptop I was able to use a USB output into the USB input of the mixer and the sound was a lot better in quality. I wish to do the same using the new MBP but when I plugged into the right side USB port I received no audio output.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks howardfrom nh.

Have you gone into the Sound/Output system preferences to see if your mixer shows up there as a valid output device and if it does selected it there? If it doesn't appear, have you confirmed with the manufacturer of your mixer that it is compatible with Macs and if so asked if there are any drivers you need to install?
    Regards.

  • USB devices for audio output

for five or six years, I have been using an EDIROL device for outputting from the USB port to a standard stereo amplifier.
    I like it - it's good - I would recommend it.
But I was just wondering what other USB audio output doo-dads might be out there? Surely something good has been invented since 2003.
Is there a wrap-up out there, possibly done by one of the Mac magazines or blogs or whatever?
    thanks!

  • Apple tv sound - settings won't allow a change to airplay for audio output

when i view video from the web i can broadcast video to airplay from my macbook but not audio.  The settings shows airplay as an option for audio out but won't let me select it.  ideas?

I had the same issue. I would option+click the volume icon in the top-right menu and attempt to select Apple TV  (MD199LL/A). OSX would immediately revert to Internal Speakers every time I tried to select Apple TV.
Restarting the computer solved the problem.

  • Select microphone for audio driver?

    Please excuse my bad english.
Microphone is connected to PC. In the Windows' tool "Sound" -> "Recording" there are 2 microphones: first one which is built-in laptop, second one which is connected to audio card inlet.
With audio driver "ASIO4ALL v2" choosen at Edit -> Audio Hardware Setup -> Multitrack View -> Audio Driver recording comes from built-in microphone.
With "Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver" choosen recording comes from connected microphone. This microphone is better, but because of driver the recording sounds badly.
Can I use connected microphone with ASIO4ALL driver?
    Thank you for your attention.
    Audition version - 3.0
    Windows 7.

Your external microphone may be better but may not match the audio card mic input very well. Built in soundcards are really only meant for gaming playback or Skype communication purposes and are not good quality. So your mic might not sound any better even if you could pick it up in ASIO4All. However if you open ASIO4All's set up options you should be able to select the external mic there and use that instead of the internal one.

  • [10.7.5] Since update, I can only use 1 mirrored display for audio output at a time.

Before the most recent update (to 10.7.5) my 2010 Mac Pro (2x2.4GHz Intel Xeon w/ dual DisplayPort video card) had no problem sending both audio & video to my 2 mirrored HDMI displays, but now it will only send audio to one at a time, depending on which one is selected in the Sound System Preferences window.
This is kind of a big deal for me because the two displays are located in different rooms and viewed simulataneously by different people.
I know other people have been having audio problems since this update too.
Anybody know of a workaround or a way to contact someone at Apple who could see this get fixed soon?

I have no idea how to do what you're doing using those GUI tools (nor, likely, will anyone else here). When I used to need this I just loaded module-combine and set it as the default sink (did it in /etc/pulse/default.pa though you should be able to do it for only your user in ~/.pulse or something).

  • HT204388 HDMI for audio output only

    Hi,
I want to the use the HDMI purely for sending audio to a surround sound system, keeping the video output to my existing monitor connected on mini displayport. Can this be configured in OSX?
    Thanks in advance

Hi, I don't really know, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • Distortion using USB port for audio output

I did some research in the Mac Mini community regarding the problem I'm experiencing but most of the posts were several years old so I thought I would start a new thread.
I am using one of the USB ports on my 2011 Mac Mini (2.3GHz, i5) to feed a High Resolution Technologies Streamer II USB DAC which then connects to my audio systems integrated amplifier. The issue I'm experiencing is that I am getting distortion when I first open iTunes and start a music track playing. I can hear the music but it is overlayed with this static like distortion. It seems to happen specifically when I first wake the computer from sleep and open iTunes and try to play a track. If I close and reopen iTunes and start a track playing again the distorion usually goes away and all tracks after the initial distortion play fine. I've done troubleshooting with regards to the HRT USB DAC and made sure the Streamer II is operating on its own USB Bus and I've tried a powered USB Hub to feed only the Streamer II but the distortion continues. So aside from the obvious hardware malfunction possibilities I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thank you,

well i dont have the cable yet i just was wondering if that would work. Yes it has bluetooth but i was told you cant use the bluetooth for a modem. Dont know why the phone has the option. How would i set up that option?

  • NFL page needs a MIME plugin for audio output

when I go to NFL.com I get a drop down window with this info
The page “NFL.com - Official Site of the National Football League” has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
I cant find a plugin for safari
is there a plugin for safari that is MIME compliant
    I have Safari Version 2.0.2 (416.13)

    Hi,
It sounds like you don't have RealPlayer installed.
You can get RealPlayer from http://www.real.com (theyhave a link to the free player in the top right corner). Run RealPlayer at least once after copying it to your hard drive and then restart Safari.
I'm watching the video clip on the NFL.com homepage now without any problems.

  • Problem hooking up my mixer for audio output

i'm sorry if this question seems a bit obtuse; however, i'm new to trying to set something like this up. Here goes: I've had 2 Technics turntables, a Pioneer DJM-707 mixer and a Crown amp running to two Peavey Pro-15 speakers for some time. I decided that I wanted to be able to record my mixes, so I bought the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card to facilitate this wish. To capture sound coming out from my mixer's "session out" rca output, I just connect from the mixer's "out" to the Platinum Pro's hub Line In 3 rca connections on the rear side, right? I think this is right; however, the more perplexing issue is that i'm also trying to get the Peavey speakers to play the music I have on my computer now through the mixer, amp, and out of the speakers using the "session in" rca inputs on the mixer. How should I connect the rca cables to the hub? I see a digital out, but really no other output for what the mixer's input looks like it needs. If that explanation was completely incomprehensible, then here's the link to to the Pioneer djm-707 mixer where you can see what the i/o stuff on my mixer looks like: http://www.djdeals.co.uk/prod-downlo...7%20Manual.pdf
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    I have traveled the same road as you. I wish I had seen Randall's response a month ago. After months of correspondence with Tascam, they finally suggested I exchange my unit for one of their new FW units. The sad part is, their website specifically states that the US-144 works with FCP. It does not. They were very nice about it, here is part of their reply;
"I am sorry for any inconvenience, the US-144's drivers are conflicting in Final Cut Pro at the moment, which is something we are working on. A couple of products to consider that I tested personally and work are the Fireone, a new brand new product of ours that was designed by frontier that is a control surface, computer interface with 2 ins and stereo line out and 2 headphone outputs for only $299.99. You can see more of this product at: http://www.tascam.com/Products/fireone.html Another product to consider is the FW-1082 which is also a control surface with 8 motorized faders and 10 ins and 4 outs with SPDIF I/O for only $599.99. You can view that product here: http://www.tascam.com/Products/fw1082.html Again sorry for any inconvenience and I hope this helps."
After showing my vendor this email, they agreed to exchange my unit for one of the above. Wish I had seen your stuff earlier.
Although it sounds like you've probably already taken care of your issue, I leave this here for others who might be searching (as we were). Good luck!

  • Audio output in Macbook.

on my macbook when I open "audio midi setup" under audio output it says "output is not supported". the output works fine, the speakers or headphones work, I plugin an optical cable and in DVD Player it detects the "digital output" but I can't select to change the output settings in audio midi setup. anyone know whats wrong?

Are you using a miniTOS optical cable in the headphone port?
I just got one today which I use with my amp. In audio MIDI setup, under Audio Devices, my default output and system output are both set to "Built-in Output".
Then when I select properties for "Default Output", I can configure speakers, source, format etc.
I assume this is a normal setup, because everything is workign fine, so just check that you have all the same options selected as me.
I haven'y yet tested 5.1 or encrypted audio or anything with a DVD yet though.
