Select Tool (Arrow Poiner) Grabbing all tracks

Hi
I hope this is a simple fix. I had a problem with Autosave Vault not working, so I found a Ken Stone article on resetting preferences (as in Trash/Restore). Fixed the Autosave Vault problem, but now my select tool arrow grabs all tracks (video and audio) instead of just the single track I'm trying to edit. Figure it must be a setting that was reset to a default value, but i can't find it. Help needed and welcomed.
Phil

When you trash your preferences your FCP system reverts to default behaviour ... one of those defaults is having "Linked Selection" turned on. You can toggle it back off by pressing SHIFT-L ( or by choosing Edit menu *> Linked Selection* )

  • Why does Quick Select tool make the edges all jagged?

My Photoshop Elements Quick Select tool is great for selecting an item, a shirt say, and then I copy it and paste it onto a new page with a white background, thus eliminating the background I had before.  The only thing is that it makes the edges of the item all jagged and then I have to go with the eraser tool and smooth everything out.  This is not easy because my hand is not that steady.  Also it is very hard on my eyes.  I've already had to get new glasses.   The original image, a shirt for example, has sharp delineation all around it.  How can I copy it so that when I paste it onto a new background, it stays sharp and I don't have to spend ages, sometimes half an hour or more, trying to smooth out its edges?  Thanks.

    Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your answer about using Refine Edge.  It works very well.  Thanks so much.  Is there a way that I can get the edge really sharp but not jagged?  I've tried Smooth 8 and Feather 0 but the garment still doesn't have as sharp an edge as the original photo.
Many thanks also for your answer to Jane regarding Fill or Unfill Workspace.  I couldn't find it even after a laborious task of copying every option screen in my original Photoshop Elements 6 and then comparing each photo to every option screen on my new Photoshop.  It never would have occurred to me to look in Application Frame.  I, like Jane and others, do not like working with my entire Workspace blacked out.
Thanks again.   Would you have a suggestion re. my first paragraph herein?  Thanks.

  • Track Select Tool CS6 vs CC

The CC version of the Track Select Tool seems to default to ALL TRACKS instead of a single track.
So I am used to hitting the key for Track Select Tool, and holding shift to grab all tracks.the way it's always functioned in Premiere CS6 (as well as FCP).
But now with CC, holding shift does the opposite.
I will re-train myself but I'm wondering if there's any way to change the settings of this particular tool, to default select a single track, the way it's always worked.
    Thanks

    Yes they changed that behaviour.
There must be a lot of request for that for Adobe to implement this feature.
I think its a matter of getting used to.

  • Selection Tool Error

I'm having problems with the selection tool in Indesign CS5.  When I select an object with the selection tool and try to move it I get an alert sound.  It will not let me move an entire object with either the selection tool or the direct selection tool.  If I use the direct selection tool I can grab a point and move the point with no problem.  If the object is selected, I can use my arrow tool to move the object.  But when I use the selection tool to click/hold and drag, to move I receive an alert sound, and nothing happens.  I'm on a Mac running 10.6.7.  Macbook Pro 6.  Last time this happened I had to create a new user and transfer everything over to a new account.  I know there are problems with the initial User account on a mac created, but I was hoping this wouldn't happen again.  Any help would be wonderful.  And no, nothing is locked down, and it does the same thing when opening a brand new document.
    Thanks,
    Poe

When I said "arrow tool" I meant my directional arrows on my keyboard.  Sorry for the confusion.

  • Selection tool blinking (black / white)

    Hi,
this is maybe a newbie question, but I can't solved this problem.
I'm working in project with about 80 layers 3D (mosty images from Photoshop, one camera, some null objects, some texts, one solid with a grid effect and a sound layer in .wav).
Most of the layers are locked. I'm working on the layers that are in the bottom.
I try to animate the position of a layer manually with the selection tool. When I pass over the image in the composition front view or camera view, the selection tool (arrow) is blinking white and black.
If I try to click and drag this image, a new "window" pop up which shows the layer itself.
And some times the image is dragged well creating a new keyframe.
When this happens I try to select a new layer / or the layer / or the layer's position line or try to click elsewhere. Sometimes everything goes well, but mainly not. I can't figure out what's happening.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Selection Tool Issue

Out of the blue, my black "selection tool" arrow has stopped working. It will still allow me to select an object and move it, but it no longer allows me to reshape or resize an object. Any ideas on how to fix this, or if possible a setting accidently got mixed up that would cause this?
    Thanks!!!

That worked! You are amazing, thank you!

  • How to recover the selection tool?

Acrobat XI.  The selection tool (arrow only - not the one that's an arrow with a text-insert cursor next to it) disappeared from the ribbon on my Acrobat.  How do I get it back?

How do I go to Tools?  I don't see that anywhere.  And everything I've tried with the word "Tools" in it doesn't bring up anything that says "Interactive Objects".
Here's what my interface looks like:

  • PPro CC crashes when using Track Select tool

This is probaby the most bizzare bug i have encountered so far - everythig works - i can scub, play and adjust footage, apply effects, titles and time remapping, but when i select Treack Select tool and click on the timeline, Premiere Pro crashes.
This is a new develpment as well - i was able to use PPro CC just fine since i installed it (trial version), until yesterday.
No new applications or updates for Windows, Nvidia card or Adobe were installed lately, but all drivers are up to date (according to various update managers)
Premiere CS6 works fine with the same sequence (mixed RED and DSLR footage)

    Yep, buggy project..
New project with same and different footage works fine
Other project created in CC works fine
Imported sequence from CS6 works fine
Imported sequence from a buggy CC project into a new project causes crash on using Track Select tool
I was able to revert the project in question to CS6 via Final Cut Pro XML, also works fine (for now, at least), just have to redo some time remapping which didn't come through with XML translation, small loss
I guess i'll wait few more months before switching to PPro CC, maybe mysterious bugs will be worked out by then

  • Select Tool (blk arrow) doesn't work correctly-illustrator cs2

    Hi, all.
when you click on an object with black arrow, it converts to free transform automatically.
so as many people might do, I used black arrow to re-size or rotate etc etc. rather than using free transform tool.
but it suddenly not working. Did I press wrong key by accident or something?
    Thank you

    sugene yoo,
    >but it suddenly not working. Did I press wrong key by accident or something?
Actually, assuming the Selection Tool now selects, it started working, so you must have pressed the right key or something.

  • Direct black arrow (select tool) suddenly stopped responding

I have been using cs3 for years and all of a sudden the direct selection arrow stopped working. When I click on it in  the toolbox nothing happens, the icon does not change and I cannot select an object. I read that the solution might be to reset preferences  with shift/control alt. When I do that absolutely nothing changes. I am experiencing this problem whether it is a new document or an existing file. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and updating. Everything is still working as it should on my laptop which is also running on windows 7.

    sugene yoo,
    >but it suddenly not working. Did I press wrong key by accident or something?
Actually, assuming the Selection Tool now selects, it started working, so you must have pressed the right key or something.

  • Why does the vector selection tool (white arrow) change layer selection to another vector mask?

I have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
Does anyone know any resolution for this?
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?

What version of Photoshop are you using????
The White Arrow tool is the direct selection tool and it work best way you point it at a path segment line and click once.  When you do all the control points in a close path segment will be marked with little squares and the two control point adjacent to where you clicked will have handles you can adjust.
You can also drag out a rectangle with the direct selection tool. When you do you may select many closed paths in a path a path may have many sub paths and each has a mode like add, subtract, intersect etc, and each has a stacking order like in a layer stack. So if you drag out a rectangle many paths control points will be marked and control point adjacent to crossing rectangle will have handles. Can be very confusing.
Here are two screen capture the first on shows the layer palette and path palette.  You can see many shapes and path with sub paths and modes. I also targeted layer a vector mask. The selected the direct selection tool and in the image window I pointed at the 45 degree oval path near the top right. You cab see the four control points and two with handles.   The second screen capture  I only captured the image window. I used the direct selection tool and draged out a rectangle and you cab see many segments control points and many have handles. I have no problem selecting what I want to select

  • Can't nudge my edited Multi-Cam sequence forward with the Track Select Tool

Hello, Good People of this forum,
I can't move it forward using the Track Select Tool. I checks to make sure the mother tracks weren't locked and I can move that timeline fine.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am having a similar issue. My system and FCP are latest updates.
I have a set of clips shot with one tripod camera for the full length, and what looks like one or two other "roving" cameras getting closeups and other angles, but start and top points (not runnign the entire interview). Effectively these are B roll with matching audio.
If I run Sync Clips, it makes a huge mess piling them all one atop another. The audio souds like a party, not a conversation with two people.
When I make a Multicam clip, FCP does a "pretty good job" but some short clips are WAY out of sync...
Then it becomes a puzzle to find where they go.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for monitoring the video of the track on which I have just clicked the clip it's on? the one Multiclip when I am done?

  • Multiple Track Select Tool - Deselect one clip

On a Mac, I am using the Track Select tool with the shift key held down to select multiple tracks at a certain point. It keeps selecting one clip more than I want. How can I deselect that one clip and retain the others?

    Peter J Kovacs wrote:
You can just switch back to the Selection Tool and then SHIFT click the tracks you want to deselect.
Alternatively you can just use the Selection Tool to drag a window across the multiple clips/tracks you want to select. However, you must start dragging the selection window in the empty space above all the the track otherwise you'll just end up just moving a clip.
    -Pete
I think you mean switch back to the selection tool and the shift click the clip you want to deselect, not the track.

  • Track Select Tool

Is there any way to make the Track (Forward) select tool default to just selecting a single track rather than ALL?
I very much would prefer that way round, as I often want to move multiple individual tracks in a sequence, whilst leaving others in place. Whereas having the command default to selecting all and pressing a modifier key to tell it to only select a single track means (as far as I know) that there is no way to then select (an) additional track(s) and then move those in sync whilst leaving the rest in place.
    .... it's an animation/ VFX thing.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jaa_edit,
It's the default to just selecting a single track bit that's key here.
Selecting individual tracks (with appropriate linked selections) isn't a problem. Selecting several of them without selecting all of them is.
(Say, just moving V6, V5, and A1 and keeping those in sync with each other - but leaving V1-4 and A2-6 where they currently are)
Before CC, this was default. You could use the tool to select a single track, and then hold shift to select additional tracks. Now the default is that the tool selects all when you click the mouse, or you hold shift before clicking to select a single track.
OK. I can see why this annoys you. I would file this bug/feature request here: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug I'll also raise the issue with engineering. For now, locking tracks is the workaround.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
