was told to start new topic, i was in the process of doing a clean install from a purchased imac, heres my last steps and cd's on hand.my model im told i have is a iMac DV Special Edition (Summer 2000) Model PowerMac4,2 prior to my mess, it had 9.2.2 installed and all the updates and firmware.
plz help me to get me back to my desktop and to help do a fresh install, note the 3 cd's i have are not updates cd's only the mac os 9 it has a orange nine
all wording on the cd's are mentioned below
1-software restore cd says version ssw version 9.0 691-2466-A for imac dv models
2-software install cd says for imac dv models ssw version 9.0 691-2465-A
3-cd mac os9 w/sherlock version 9.2.1 1z691-3283-A mac os 9.2.1 update cd.
this is what my last step was before i got the flashing ? in a folder possible searching for a voulme that has the past sofware installed. I found on the mac last nite a thing called macintosh hard drive from within one of the cds while
i was trying to make a clean install (just learning) so I draged and drop that
mackintosh hd icon into the hard drive on the desktop icon. And then I went to the control panel and - startup disc- and made my next startup boot to be for the macintosh hard drive start up volume. That was all I did and it was
my last work that I did do, and then when I restarted, I now see ths error ? mark
in a folder with a finder mac face like. Sorry I always type a lot and probably don't make sence. As I feel its searching for a correct start up
volume boot to the desktop, I may be wrong. i just want to get back to my normal last install i had, which had no problems , i just wanted to make it clean was all. thank you
so my main concern is that the startup vulume is wrong its use to say hard drive only but i made an additional one and one called it macintosh hard drive.

Seems you must've had the Option key held down.
Not sure if the HD is bootable anymore... perhaps you replaced the System Folder?
Did you try the PRAM reset & wait for 5 tones?

I don't understand this answer. What do you mean " your contacts should be in whatever program/service you have selected to sync."? The address book is created on the phone not in Itunes or any other program/service. When Itunes says backing up phone I have to assume it backs up everything on the phone. Most of what's on my phone does not come out of itunes. I download apps directly on the phone. When the software updates it does not bring those apps back. I have to go into the appstore and install them all over again. Itunes music library syncs with whatever is on the device your linked up to BUT the phone book just dissappears after you update the phone. There is no way to save it anywhere else.

I loaded what I guess is the new version of Firefox and it completely changed my whole task bar. I don't have my Norton Logins with stored passwords, and it's hard to find my favorites. Help get it back to how it was.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

I am having major problems installing Mountain Lion. After downloading successfully and attempting to install the process froze after restarting - ended up hanging on the OSX Recovery screen. Wouldn't restart properly without me selecting a startup disc.

Three times I went through this same process for the same outcome. I have redownloaded Mountian Lion three times. I removed the Lion install package from the Applications folder in case this was causing a problem. Deleted and remounted the Mountain Lion package each time. Finally got the package to run through the install, restart and begin the file install - at the end it failed and I was left with a blank startup disc and no data. I have backed up. Through the OSX Recovery screen I selected a Lion reinstall - checked my credential against the app store -fine. But then failed on the reinstall. Now doing a recovery from current backup but wondering the **** is going on. Wasted over 24 hours of processor time.

When Ejecting Discs, 1/3 Times the Disc Will Get Sucked Back In.

I may have a problem with my 24" 1st Gen iMac. When i eject a disc 1/3 times it will get sucked back in by itself. I was wondering if anyone experiences this problem and have any remedies i would gladly appreciate it.

It also happened to me on my old iMac G5, but not all discs. Does it happen to every disc you place in? I think this has something to do with the "mechanical motor-traction" of how the disc is being pulled in when you insert the disc, and when you eject the disc, somehow this mechanism "mistaken" it is a new disc being inserted so it will (try and) pull in the disc again. I think it normally happens to older macs where the drive slot has gone through some "wear and tear"
Try and fish out the disc with your finger tips as soon as it pops out, you also found out (like me) with a little "human help and intervention", the disc got more grip and will eject totally.
But if you find the problem really persistence and annoying, you can always send it in for some servicing, I think it should be a minor maintenance work on the slot

I had microsoft exchange added and when I synced I lost all of my prior contacts. Also, thenames all turned to numbers. Example when you get a text from a contact, their name appeared. Now just a phone number. What did I do wrong and can I get it back?

Since adding microsoft exchange I sunced my phone and lost all of my old contact, notes. etc. Also, when I do get a text message it appears as a number instead of a name. What did I do wrong and can I get my old info restored. When I tried restoring it only gave me the same thing.

That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

Lost my iPhone 6 Plus images and I need help getting them back.

I may just have to go to the apple store, but I am going to see if anyone out here can help me out.
Oct 31st I transferred my SIM from my iPhone 5S to a new iPhone 6 Plus. On December 7th(ish) my new iPhone decided that it would no longer focus on anything that was more than one foot away.
I was hoping that it would fix itself but it never did. So I went to the Apple Forums and there were some people suggested that wiping out the phone and restoring the system would help.
Before I wiped out my phone I did a back up. After the phone restored all the images and information came back. The camera started working for a couple clicks then stopped. I wiped out my phone three maybe four more times and it each time the images came back I even wiped out and set it up as a new iPhone and wiped back out and restored with my iCloud and the image still came up!!! ... but the focusing would not work for more than a couple of clicks.
On December 12 I took it into the iPhone store they said I'd needed a replacement one. Before we removed the "find my phone" and wiped out the device we made sure the phone was backed up. Because I had over 5,500 images on my phone I didn't wait around the store to make sure they all popped up and went home.
When I got home the phone only showed the 4,200 images I had taken with my iPhone 5S up to October 31st!!! However, under my settings my replacement iPhone 6 Plus shows 5,500 images but I cannot locate them.
The other thing that is odd is that all my "shared images" from October 31st to December 12th that I took with my 6 Plus are still showing up as well as the ones that I sent via which leads me to think that they are lost out in the iCloud Universe somewhere.
When logged on to my iCloud.com account it would only allow me to see what is on my current iPhone 6 Plus which includes the images before October 31st and the images I have taken since the iPhone 6 Plus. I cant see any of the images that are on my iPad that are set up under the same account, but it let's me see the icon for the iPad and it also shows me the icon for my other 6 Plus. However, the iCloud website will not allow me to click on the two icons and look at the images.
I believe that after 30 days from December 12th those images will probably by default be deleted from the iCloud system and I want to make sure that I get them back before they do.
I understand that apple changed the layout of the images and I did go and look at all my albums... so this not the case.
I can see my back up from Dec. 9 and Dec 12th and have tried to do the restore on this phone the text and the contacts pull up but the images do not.
Someone please help me out. I have all the images from our recent Disney World Vacation in there and I would really like to have them back.

Did you restore your phone with itunes or check new phone. You can always reconnect with itunes and restore your phone to old settings and it should replace everything because it is on your computer

It has always beenv ery basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to backup, then you can redownload some content. Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links

I accidentally got rid of my whole toolbar and need help getting it back. Is there a way to do this?

When I was doing a Facebook screenshot I needed to widen the picture (not even thinking about using the maximize and minimize tool) so I right-clicked and unchecked all of my toolbars. I reeeeeally need them back so I need a way to get them back... this is where you guys come in...

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the ''Alt'' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark.

Music lost after downloading straight to phone. Help get it back?

I downloaded quite a few songs (25 or so) around 3 months ago directly to my iPhone 4. They were playing fine. I Synked my phone around a month after and didnt notice anything wrong, but then a few weeks ago none of those particular songs were on my ipod. I checked my macbook itunes library and they werent there, and they were no where on my phone. They are ALL marked purchased in the iTunes store. Does anyone know how I can get those songs back?

My site went down and I need help getting it back up please!

Hello.   I am new to this forum and new to Dreamweaver.   I had a friend who was helping with my website but lapsed on a payment or two and the site went down. I can log back in now but I am unsure how to move the pages that I stored on my desktop back to the website space.   I tried "insert" but that button doesn't even light up.   Bottom line is I have a folder with the pages before it went down though I am unsure how to convert those to html.   I need to know how to move those files back into Dreamweaver so they appear on the website the way the did before it went down.   I also have them in a zip file form that he asked for a couple of years ago.    Would that help or be a better way to get the files back into Dreamweaver? I am Dreamweaver "stupid" so I need any and all help I can get and thank you very much!    If you want to answer me privately, you can email me at [email protected]   I would appreciate anything anybody can do to help this "stupid old broad" try to figure out how to get this website back up fairly quickly as I just mailed a grant in and I am sure they will be checking out the website. Hi Hans.   I appreciate your "hanging with me" and yes I should change the date on my camera.   I changed the batteries recently and just haven't reset it.
I guess I am just not able to find how I access the Dreamweaver directory in the second window.   I have tried various "paths" but cannot find anything within Dreamweaver that says "directory". Only things like required, regloc, plug ins, LMResources, legal, JVM, installer, etc. so I am apparently not following the right path to the directory.   I have tried everything.
I have to be "real careful" as to what I do on the website as the space is "borrowed" from another person who also has his sites up there.   I feel confident though that if I could just copy the older working files onto the site again that "all would be well"   The "tree" is still there but somehow the files are incorrect and I don't even know how to remove them and start again. I just can't seem to figure anything out.   I am very very new at all of this and have probably relied on others for much too long.
Again, thank you so much for your time and effort.   I am still reading and looking :-)

Help getting speed back up above 2mb???

I had my bt vision installed a few months ago and it was working fine til recently. The engineer that installed it said my speed was borderline and it was sitting at 2.4mb. But now it has dropped below 2mb and im getting the v04 message when i try to play my on demand.
Someone suggested i ask here on how to get my bb running faster again.
Anyone got any suggestions???

I had broadband in the pre hub days so never had one to enable me to hep but I saw on other postings that the hub may have two passwords on it, one is wireless, one is admin pages. Also saw mention that the passwords are case sensitive. Others have has issues and had to reset the hubs but that would means you lose all altered settings I believe.

Help getting data back!

Hey any help would be great on this.
I was having problems with my texts been really delayed so i did a restore - it asked if i wanted to do a back up (i ticked yep).
When it had finished i lost my notes etc (i.e. the back up didn't go onto the phone)
How do i restore to an older back up (software 1.14, itunes 7.6.2 and an ibook if thats any useful info)

First look to see if you have any older backups than the last one you did.
In iTunes, open preferences and select the Syncing tab.
(in Windows, preferences is under the EDIT menu and in Macintosh it's under the iTunes menu)
You will have any available backups listed in that screen.
If you have an older backup available, open Settings on the iPhone.
Tap on General.
scroll down to Reset
select "Erase all Content and Settings"
The next time you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you will be prompted to sync to a previous backup or setup as a new iPhone.
Select the backup you wish to load to the phone.

Oracle XE 10g database offline need help getting it back in 11g EE

Our server crashed...completely crashed...lightning took it clean out. It was older hardware running server 2003, oracle xe 10g, so we replaced it with a newer better server running 2008r2 (64bit I might add).
I need to bring the old database, tablespaces and datafiles back online with the new server and the new instance of Oracle.
I have sucessfully installed oracle 11g EE and can create new a new database (all is online with this), but I need my old data back for PCM 13.1. I cannot find any good online documentation regarding this issue, and we are down until its corrected. Obviously just copying the data over isnt going to work, so any help is much appreciated.
I have good copies of the old hard drives with the folder structures intact, but there is no chance of getting the old OS back online without purchasing old matching hardware and just slamming the drives into it.
Basically how do I get the new instance of Oracle to open and run my older database...how do I restore it?

I did it...yay! Here's what I did...I installed a fresh copy of oracle 10g xe in my virtual xp mode. Stopped the database after installation...deleted and replaced the oradata and fast_recovery_area folders with my old data. Started the database and everything worked so far. In the server with 2008 r2 I installed 11g xe, same system password. I then installed SQL Developer on both computers (easier for me than typing out the scripts). In the XP mode 10g xe computer I did a FULL data pump export to a dump directory. I then moved the dump file to the new server and ran a data pump import, appending data if existing. First time, failed....checked the log and obviously I missed the fact the folder structure MUST be the same for the datafiles or I would have to remap (too much work). The default oradata folder is different in 10g than 11g. I created the oradata folder in 11g xe in the same location as 10g would put it and ran the import script again. BAM, it worked this time...I have my data back in 11g xe and my software was able to find it like it should. Thank you for your consideration and help...hope this helps someone else down the road.
