Selecting an area when editing audio

Dragging with the mouse to select a portion of an audio file to cut does not work for me.
I can only drag for a short distance beyond the visible screen before dragging ceases. I can 'wiggle' it a little to jog it a little further but it always jumps back to the start point once I release.
Choosing a point then another when holding command (control) does not work as it does in most applications.
I am using an external Mac trackpad (Magicpad) but this does not produce problems in any other application.

I'm not on Mac but on Win, but perhaps you can find the equivalent for the shortcuts i'm using: SHIFT-RIGHT to extend the selection to the right, and for bigger extensions SHIFT-CTRL-RIGHT

"Insert silence" won't work when editing audio

Greetings. Forgive me if this topic has been addressed
before. If anybody has experienced this issue and has a suggestion,
I'd be very grateful.
I'm relatively new to Captivate 2.0, as are my colleagues.
When editing audio in a .cp file, I often cannot insert silence at
the beginning or end of a clip. The flat silence appears on the
waveform, I click OK, I exit the editor as usual -- and the clip
plays back at its original length, with no silence. If I attempt to
insert silence in the middle of a clip -- no problem!
I hope I'm simply missing something obvious. Thanks in

Well Jeannine8, you are close, but the reason your "fix"
works is because your recorded "silence" is probably white-noise,
not total silence. Allow me to explain please ...
Captivate does want to truncate (clip off) real (complete and
total) silence from the beginning or end of any waveform. So the
trick to adding silence to the beginning or end is to make sure the
silence actually contains *some* blip in the waveform (however
tiny). How to do that? Glad you asked!
1) In the Captivate WAV editor, insert your silence.
2) Now grab
any tiny, tiny piece of the audible waveform and copy it.
3) Then paste it to the very beginning of the waveform.
4) Last, use the "Volume" editor to reduce the volume below
human hearing level.
Note, if the "clip" you copied was extremely loud, you may
have to reduce the volume, close the volume control, then reopen it
and reduce it a 2nd time. This is because Captivate only allows you
to reduce volume to a minimum of 10% of the original.
All that said, I want to emphasize that "Jeannine8"'s fix
will normally work, and shows a lot of moxie ... so thanks,
"Jeannine8". And if opening the microphone and hitting the "Record"
button for a second or two in a semi-quiet room seems easier to
you, go for it. But if you know the reason
why it works, I think you will be happier in the long term.

Missing "Select a Template" when editing asset?

Okay, I need some input here!
We recently upgraded from Fatwire 7.5 to Webcenter Sites.
I now a have question about something, for which I don't know if it is caused by an error, a misconfiguration, or is just a new feature, in the Webcenter Sites UI for admin and contributor.
Like I would always do in Fatwire, in the admin-interface, I created a new template that applies to a subtype of a specific asset-type.
In the contributor-interface I then created a new asset of that specific asset-type and subtype, and then I want to select a template to render my asset. But when editing the asset, the field "Select a Template" is not present (the drop-down where I usually select a template is missing).
When I "inspect" the asset, I can see that "Template: No template specified", but when I edit the asset the "Select a Template"-field is gone???
Further info:
- No errors is thrown in the log.
- My user has been granted all rights.
- if I inspect an exiting asset, created before the upgrade til Webcenter Sites, the asset will have a rendering template assigned, but when I edit an exciting asset the "Select a Template"-part is missing.
Do you have any inputs to this behavior, what can be wrong?

Phil, you are a legend!
When I set the Template to "Element is used as a layout", the template does appear as selectable, when editing a asset of the correct type.
The correct answer, and now it works.
Good thing it is backwards compatible, since the exiting assets will have the old rendering template assigned, from before the upgrade to Webcenter Sites.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when editing audio- any solutions?

Adobe Premiere Pro CC crashes nearly every time I try to edit audio, keyframe it in certain spots, etc, etc, with the error message that there has been an "unexpected problem" and the program must "force quit." Sometimes my work is saved, sometimes it isn't. And then I have to re-name my saved file, so I often end up with upwards of 15 different project files because I cannot edit audio without this program crashing. I see I'm not the only one--what is Adobe doing to fix this bug-riddled program? It's impossible to get anything done!
I'm using this program on a MAC, 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor. MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5.
I'm ready to lose my mind.

I am having a very similar experience.....I have been working in Adobe Premiere Pro for well over 8 years and have always had issues with crashes when working with audio files, keyframing, transition placement, trimming and so on. I have had nightmares with some projects that I am having crashes every change I do and it seems once you get an issue with a project it only gets worst. I have worked on a number of different systems in regards to hardware and get the same issues, OS has been Windows 7 64bit for number of years. I would have expected Adobe to have been able to smooth this out by now but it just keeps rearing its ugly head when I`m on a deadline crunch.
I try to never work with Mp3s and always request wav but it doesn't seem to matter in the long run.
Just wanted to let you know you are not the only one and I am having a serous issue with this problem once again!
Please help Adobe....audio is an issue with Premiere Pro for a lot of us....thanks!

CS4 freezes when editing audio.

Hello All,
I have a client that has a workstation that freezes when she edits audio in CS4. I have seen it happen and what it does is it keeps playing the audio but Adobe CS4 freezes until the audio is done playing or when she kills CS4. I have reinstalled Adobe CS4, talked to Adobe technical support, reloaded her workstation with Vista 64 bit, put in another hard drive for the page file, and ran through every troubleshooting document I could find on the forums and Adobes website. Her workstation is a Core2Quad 2.4GHz and 4GB of ram with Vista 64 bit.
This is an on-going issue that needs to be solved ASAP and any help would be appreciated from other users. I do not want to resort to calling Adobe technical support as I was not satisfied with their knowledge of their product.

Edit: Harm Millaard chime in if you have any suggestions. You seem to be very helpful on these forums. Also, you have a very impressive computer setup and props to you for putting it together.

While I feel that the Assets, or the Project, are probably the culprits here, you might want to look over this ARTICLE on "tuning up" one's NLE computer. Might be something useful in it - if not now, then for later.

Live updating when editing audio

Fellas:
First of all, I think AA3 is nice. I've moved up from the ancient Cool Edit Pro a few weeks ago.
One thing that I don't like or can't find is in Cool Edit Pro, you could make an edit while the audio plays, remove a breath or stumble as the audio plays.
On AA3, you have to stop the audio to perform the edit. That slows me down! I can still select the part I want to edit out, I just have to stop the audio to edit it out.
Can anyone tell me where the toggle to turn that on is or IF IT EXISTS? It's NOT a deal breaker but, just something I might have to get used to, again...

I believe the behavior changed when our driver model switched to ASIO. It did require stopping the player in order to change the underlying data.
I agree with you and everyone else who feels it brings around a slowdown when editing. I'm not certain if it's something we can address, bound within the limitations of the hardware drivers, but I'm going to write up a feature request right now asking it to be, at the very least investigated, and best case scenario, resolved under the hood.

Premier Pro 2014 opens Audition CS6 when editing audio clip from Premier

I own Adobe CS6 Master Collection installed (for legacy projects) and I also have the CC subscription. When I am running Premier Pro CC 2014 and then try to edit an audio clip in Audition the CS6 version of Audition loads rather than the CC 2014 version. Any help or thoughts on why this is happening would be appreciated.

I detected this with photoshop--I think its an OS issue--The OS doesn't appear to recognize the two versions are different. In my case, I had PSP CC loaded, but then loaded the 32 bit version of PSP CS6 (so I could scan directly into the program using "IMPORT") Windows changed the default to the 32 bit version. When I tried to change default using windows, windows would not show the CC version as an option--just the 32 bit version. Without editing the registry, I couldn't find a way to force windows to ignore the 32 bit version and open the CC version. My workaround was to always open the CC version from the icon and then click on the file I wanted open. It appears that if any version of the program is already running, the recognized default won't open. This might work for you on Audition.

Buzzing when editing audio

Hi,
I'm editing for a band (at 96k if it makes a difference?) And after so many edits (cutting each note at a time) the audio I'm working on starts buzzing on playback and when I make the cuts (so its buzzing when I'm previewing audio before cutting with the scissors if that makes sense?) The only cure I know is to quit LP7 trash the preference file and re open. But doing this 8-15 times an hour is really starting to get very annoying. Sometimes I can get 30 edits/cuts and then it starts to buzz, other times its within 2 or 3. It's as if I've caught Logic on a bad day sometimes and it just doesn't want to not buzz!
An interesting thing to note is that I can tell if its about to happen as the metronome click (Which I'm referencing to when I'm listening back to it) starts sounding like its doubling/phasing. Someone told me it might be the sample rate resetting back to 44.1, but both my 8pre and sample rate in the audio window are still set to 96k. Even the Sample Rate in the AudioMidiSetup is at 96k! So its not that
Is this some sort of issue as I also have LP8 installed?
Please note this is affecting me on both my MacPro 3Ghz (Early 2008) with MOTU 8pre and 17" MacBook Pro (Late 2008) just using the built in C.A.D.
Meanwhile I need to go and trash the preferences again! (Second time in the hour)

I'm cutting several files at once grouped in Logic: the DI feed, and the mics around the amp - so in total around 7 mono audio files. The buzzing sounds like a clocking issue rather than artefacts in the track as when I quit LP7 and reopen the audio and play it all the way through its fine - and I would also see any artefacts in the audio as I'm cutting pretty much to the sample, and then moving it to get it in time.
As you read in my original post, I can start editing and it be fine for 30 bars or worse and its 2 bars. When it happens and I press the Control+Shift keys (to fine tune the cut) and get the scrubbing sound of the audio, I get this clocking buzz...
The session was done in at a commercial studio ProTools 8 but our studio works mainly in Logic 7.2.x (with TDM hardware) as we find it a little easier to use (until we can get our hands on a stable version of PT8) So the audio needs to stay in LP7...

Logic freezing when editing audio region lengths

If I'm editing a track by chopping it into 4 bar pieces and then time stretching each section to get the tempo constant I get a very strange bug. It will do the audio stretching fine, but as soon as I click the menu bar to save, the program freezes and sits on 50% CPU load indefinitely, not allowing me to do anything, meaning I then have to kill the process and lose my work. Anyone know what's going on or experience any similar issues?

Same way you select multipl items anywhere else.
Hold ctrl and click the items you want.
If they are in consecutive order, click the 1st then Shift click the last.

How do I get Integer in JTable cell to be selected when edit using keyboard

I have some cells in a JTable, when I double-click on the cell to edit it the current value (if any) is selected and is replaced by any value I enter, which is the behaviour I want. But when I use the keyboard to navigate to the cell and start editing, new values are added to the end of the current value which is not what I want.
I have created my own IntegerCellEditor (see below) and added a focus event or the textfield used when editing to select all the current text but it has no effect, any ideas please ?

Please review the following that I excerpted from an older post here regarding Adobe's PRE_help comments about Hollywood Effect and mention of
Red Noir. Does any of the following apply to any of what is happening to you.
- Whenever I try to add an effect from the Hollywood Looks menu, it brings up a warning that all my previous effects on that clip will be deleted. However it will let me add those same effects *after* applying Hollywood Looks.
This is because of how the Hollywood Looks are designed to be used. Since these are effect presets (multiple effects in combination) that result in a specific "look"; they are best applied in isolation. If any previous effect is applied and we still allow a Hollywood effect to be applied, we will not be able to see what the effect does clearly. For e.g. if you already have a Gaussian Blur effect applied to your clip, and then we allow you to apply the "Red Noir" Hollywood effect, the fact that the "Reds" in the scenes will be highlighted and the others converted to B/W will not be clearly seen since the content is already blurred out. So any previously applied effects was designed to be removed. This holds good even if you apply a Hollywood look "on top of" another one. The previous one will be replaced. Having said that, you can customize the look further by either tweaking an already applied filter or by adding a newer effect on top. That is the reason you can apply an effect on top of the Hollywood Effects and not vice versa.
Please review and consider and then we can proceed from there if necessary.

IMovie lags when editing video and audio

I just bought iMovie yesterday from the Mac App Store. I recorded a DJ set and wanted to edit my Video with better quality audio that i recorded seperately. I find that when editing my video and audio (Matching up audio), there is alot of lag. Especially when scrolling through the video to drag the audio to a certain point to get the audio in sync. This is very frustrating and i feel i just got cheated paying for iMovie 11 when it cant even do a simple job. Please help me resolve this. Thank you!

This is not easy in iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 -
What and how did You record the extra audio ? With what tool ?
To be able to keep audio in sync should be recorded with a device with TimeCode. Else it will be near to impossibly. Or extremely tedious even if FinalCut is used.
I would use FinalCut and keep original audio on track 1 and 2 - and the extra on track 3 and 4. Then Show Wave-form - then see if they can match up to each others.
But doing this in iMovie - is nearly impossibly.
IF AUDIO HAS - TimeCode - and there are no drop outs on video or audio then You should be able to exchange original audio with the extra recorded one in iMovie and even move it frame by frame (1/30 sec or 1/25 sec) - in FinalCut audio can be moved much more exact eg 1/100 sec or within a frame
(my miniDisc recorder - is FAR away from exact enough for this)
