Selecting Edit, then Preferences in Acrobat 9 pro closes program

Hi there.  This is my first time posting here, I think; and I could really use some help.  I have Acrobat 9 Pro, and all of a sudden, if I select Edit, then Preferences, I get the error message inserted below.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks in advance.

It's now been almost 4 months since I encountered this "issue".  Some extra information would be that, when I first posted this topic, I was using a "free" (read between the lines) version of Acrobat 8 Pro.  SInce that time, I have actually purchsed Acrobat 9 Pro and still have the problem with my program shutting down when trying to select the Preferences link.  What gives?  What would cause this.  And before someone else says, try repairing the software, I have done that as well as making sure there are no updates available.
As an aside, I am another one that is disgusted with Adobe for not making the one click PDF Creator funcional in Office 2010.

  • Can't Edit a PDF in Acrobat X Pro

Hi! I am BRAND new to Acrobat. I bought Acrobat X Pro and I am trying to edit an existing PDF form (which I didn't create).  I watched the tutorials and I am able to bring it over to Acrobat but I can't edit it.  There is only a FORMS option to the upper right hand side.  Where are the Tools, Comment and Share menus that I see on the Abode TV videos?  Can someone please help me out? I have about 8 of these pdf forms that I need to edit.

First check that the form is not secured (ctrl-D > security). If it is protected you are up a creek. Assuming it is not, then you should be able to select the Tools menu (top right below the menu bar) and select the forms in that menu (I am assuming that AAX is similar to AAXI). In AA9, there is a forms menu on the menu bar. These are the tools for AcroForms (not Designer forms).
You would select to edit the fields. If that is not possible, then it is likely a Designer form. I think you can look at the document properties under ctrl-D to determine the produce that produced the file. It should indicate Designer or Live-Cycle if that is what produced the form. If it was Designer, then open the form in Designer to edit the form.

  • Text spacing goes crazy after editing a pdf in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

Recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from 7.  I have old pdf documents that need minor editing.  When I edit text with Text Touchup tool, I get an error that font substitution taking place, usually  TimesNewRoman Postscript to just TimesNewRoman.  Once I save the pdf, text throughout the entire document is spaced randomly, i.e. "Doc    ument is n    o     t     fo   m    atted  correctly".  I do not have the original source documents to re-scan or recreate the PDF.  If I create a new document using 9, I embed my fonts or I get the same problem.  I can't do this with the hundreds of old documents I have.  Is there a fix? I have tried Adobe Tech support via email with no response.
I am using Distiller to print to pdf.
I am using Vista Home Premium (ugh!) but tried it on an XP system with same results.
All my documents are text, and were OCR'd using Abbyy FineReader originally.

Thanks for the input, but I don't have the originals in either hardcopy or OCR'd files.  My workaround is to re-OCR the pdf, make the changes I need and then save to PDF.  This makes a lot more work.  I am really trying to figure out what changed in 9 from 7 that causes this to happen.  I believe it is an issue with the fonts, was just hoping for a fix.
The edits to these documents are minor, like removing some highlighting or taking away a few words of colored text, but they are necessary, just very unhappy that it now can take hours to do something it used to take minutes to do.

  • If-Then-Funtion bei Acrobat 9 Pro

    Sehr geehrte Acrobat-Nutzer,
    eure anna

  • Edit Polygon Path in Acrobat 9 Pro

Can I edit a pre-existing polygon path in Acrobat 9 Pro (add/delete points)   I cannot find the menu which would alloe me to do this.

I actually made an account just to reply an answer to this question. It turns out that Adobe just isn't able to develop this feature at this time. You see, with so little income from the Adobe Acrobat product line, and with such a small market share, they just don't have the revenue stream to support continued development of features. They have just barely enough revenue to move icons around in each release, change the names of features, and improve overall customer satisfaction by ensuring their products are always forward comparable with the most recent hardware to encourage hardware upgrades and innovation in computer speeds. They just don't have the resources to thoroughly user-test their software. They can't possibly be expected to consider any user-cases in their software design or plans for future software. It explains why users have been asking Adobe to add a reasonably small set of features to their software for at least a decade, but instead, new and more complex menu systems have been designed to provide users with more places to click, and more ways to find previously non-hidden features. It's fun! It's like playing a scavenger hunt with every new release!

I'm using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.12 (CS 5.5) on a MacBook Pro, running Yosemite V10.10. After launching Acrobat, it remains open for 10 seconds then just closes. I don't even get a crash window. Help!

    Hi ,

  • Newly installed Acrobat 11 Pro closes unexpectedly.  Help?  The Acrobat help line was unavailable.

I just installed Acrobat 11 Pro.  I try to open the application.  It begins to then gives me a message that says "Acrobat closed unexpectedly" followed by a long report to sent to Apple.  I am using a Macbook Pro with OS Yosemite v10.10.1.  Any insight?

Check permissions with the Disk Utility.  Fix anything that needs fixing.  Try loading the latest version of AAM and if that doesn't work contact Adobe:  Get Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App & Adobe Application Manager

  • Downloading Acrobat XI Pro to Program Files fails

Trying to download Acrobat XI Pro.
Download won't put it in Program Files (x6). Says I am not administrator - but I am. (Confirmed in Controal Panel and created a new folder to test.)
How can I get it to put the program there?
And if I can't, will it run properly from my Documents folder?

    HI jmf123
Please Try using a new admin account and see if that helps.
Try to see the permissions on the folder.
Also, we recommend to install it under Program Files(X86) but you can install it under other directory.
Please let me know if that helps.

  • I cannot save any changes made in the Preferences box. I go to Edit, then Preferences. When the window opens, I can check or uncheck boxes in the General window BUT, there are no Cancel or OK buttons at the bottom of the window. HELP!!

There are no "Cancel" or "OK" buttons at the botton of my "Preferences" box that allow me save any changes that I might mak in the "General" window.  The box opens without problem and changes can be made in the "General" window however, these changes cannot be saved.  If I close the window with the "X" in the upper right hand corner and then reopen it, any changes made are lost.  I'm running Windows XP and would appreciate any help that I can get.

I would like to change the "When you insert a CD:" option
Oh good, that one's pretty straightforward. When you make that change in the pane, the OK is the active button. For example, I just quickly changed mine to "Import CD and Eject", and you can see that the OK button is blue in my screenshot:
... so to make that setting stick, all you need to do is to hit your "Enter" key, and that should press the OK.
Unfortunately, I don't have any music in the iTunes library on the PC I'm working from at the moment. So I can't check my "Automatically download album artwork" checkbox.
Ed, could you check for us which item is active after changing that setting? (If it's the OK button, then hitting enter should press the invisible button, just like "When you insert a CD".)
Changing "Import Settings" is trickier, because after you get out of the "Import Settings" subdialog, the "Import Settings" button is active. So you then have to hit the tab key precisely five times (to get OK active again) and then hit Enter to get Import Settings changes to stick.

  • Edit Formscentral form with Adobe Acrobat 9 PRO

Since Formscentral is being discontinued, I would like to be able to edit my forms with Acrobat 9 Pro. I have saved my forms from Formcentral as a PDF, opened them with Acrobat, saved a copy to remove the security, then opened it with the Forms wizard. Once I get to this point I am unable to edit the text of the form. What am I doing wrong or is there a better way to achieve this?

I would also like to know.
It seems we all have to recreate the forms again in indesign since indesign cant read a pdf form.  Is this really true.  Shame on Adobe  if it is.
    Please let us know.

If you have Acrobat Pro Extended that is a PC Product. You've clicked on wrong Forum. Go back to main page the click on Acrobat and choose PC forum. Extend has such features as XML based PDF Forms which Acrobat Pro Mac can't handle.
