Selecting language when importing a DVD

Hello,
I'm trying to import a multi-language DVD and I don't find where I can select the language for the video files.
How can I select the language?
Patrick

Patrick,
Regardless of the country that one woks in, there are many reasons for adding multiple language (or Audio) Tracks. I do it for many Projects, per my clients' needs. For me, it is more often different Audio for formats, but I do several multi-language DVD's per year. Same with multi-language Subtitles.
I edit in PrPro, and then author in Encore, per the clients' specs. Works beautifully, and is easy to do in those two programs.
Now, if you would like to see multi-language support added to PrE, you will want to fill in a Feature Request. I would be surprised to see Adobe add this function, especially as their "pro" suite already includes it, but if they do not know that their install-base wants it, they will never add it.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • PICTURES ARE FUZZY WHEN IMPORTED TO DVD DISC

I'm new to creating dvds.  Pictures are fuzzy when imported to dvd disc ( memorex DVD-R).  What am i doing wrong?

    Hi
Hard to say as You don't suply any info on
    • What photo file format, size You use
    • How You go from photo to iDVD
And ! - Please do not Yell ! - Capitalized letters = Yelling in most forums and here a low and polite conversation most often will get better and more rapid results.
    Some thoughts about DVD Quality
    • DVD can only be SD-Video what ever tool used to encode it. And that is much less than what Your Mac screen can show.
    • Tools used to create the SlideShow - give a very different (quality) result
iMovie'08 to 11 - discard every second line = less resolution
iMovie HD6 and FinalCut - full interlaced video over to iDVD (as good as it can be)
FotoMagico™ _ Great and even more so if result is burned as a Blu-Ray Disk
Some notes follows - if You are of interest.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-layer.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)

  • Menu background lose color when import to dvd sp

i create psd then flat it and save as tif and jpeg and even psd files. Both look good but when import to DVDSP, the color lose. Any suggestions? save png file?

    Can't thank you enough.
I had been away from FCP and DVD SP for awhile and that can cause a loss of memory.
Your answer triggered my brain to export the finished project in FCP as a QT movie to my external drive and from there to DVD SP.
I also have forgotten most of the French I once knew as well.
    Again....much appreciated, Russ

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • No audio when importing a dvd?

I've tried to import my dvd's into iMovie HD to convert them to M4V for my ipod but haven't been able to get the audio to work. I use mactheripper to rip it then import it into imovie. the video works but no sound. I know mactheripper can't be the problem cause I can open the VIDEO_TS folder with DVD Player and it works fine. any one have this problem and know what to do or have another solution for transcoding DVD's to iPod supportive format?

MTR is a tool for getting rid of copyprotection mechanisms on commercial DVDs... no "importer" nor converter…
there're other, much better, more appropriate tools to convert DVD>>iPod, e.g. iSquint, you should ask in the iPod section of this forum...
to import DVDs into iM simply type "dvd import" into search field, but as said, no need to go the long way through a video-edit app as iM.......

  • Text looks horrible and blocky when imported into DVD SP

Why is it that all my text looks terrible when I import it from Photoshop into DVD Studio Pro for a still menu? The font size is 20pt, and the text type is Franklin Gothic, a sans serif Helvetica variation that is extremely simple and basic. Why does it look so bad? Is it the layers? The field dominance? The pixel aspect ratio? I've asked around and many people simply say "dvd studio pro does that sometimes." What? That's not seriously the bottom line is it? What if I don't want to redesign my whole menu?
I posted an example of how the text looks...

Thanks for any help you could give me!

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=778297&tstart=15
Try this one...there isn't a solution, it is a confirmed bug in the software. Check out the thread above, I included an e-mail address and issue i.d. so you can write a message letting them know that I'm not the only one having this problem...
The same issue affects the normal way of creating slideshows as well as still menus. The workaround is to create a menu that loops at around :30. However, at the loop point the text will go jagged for a second while it loops back to the beginning. So, it's not a perfect workaround.

  • Select table when import using Data Pump API

    Hi,
Sorry for the trivial question, I export the data using Data Pump API, with "TABLE" mode.
So all tables will be exported in one .dmp file.
My question is, then how to import few tables only using Data Pump API?, how to define "TABLES" property like command line interface?
should I use DATA_FILTER procedures?, if yes how to do that?
    Really thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Kahlil

    Hi,
You should be using metadata_filter procedure for the same.
    eg:
    dbms_datapump.metadata_filter
                (handle1
                 ,'NAME_EXPR'
                 ,'IN (''TABLE1'', '"TABLE2'')'
    {code}

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.

  • Why is my import from DVD-R going soooo SLOW??

OK, I'm very new in the Mac world and am still trying to move my photos from my PC. I burned all of the photos to a DVD-R using the Kodak gallery program. I have 3 DVDs of photos.
Now I am in the process of importing into iPhoto. I opened iPhoto, inserted the DVD #1, and then selected import to library. The first thousand photos imported fine, but the last hundred or so have taken FOREVER...like several minutes per photo.
Should I let this just go overnight, or stop the import and try again?
Has anyone ever experienced this slowness when importing from DVD?
    Thanks!

    CC:
You would be better off copying the files to a folder on the desktop and then into iPhoto as copying from a disk the file first has to be copied to a temp file and then into iPhoto. I don't know how far you are in the current disk import but for the future ones I'd definitely copy to a folder first and then into iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • DVD import - selecting language track

I want to import a DVD into PE9. It works OK using get media, but I only seem to have the lead audio track, which is a German language track. Since I don't speak German I'd prefer to use either the French or English tracks, but can't see any way to tell PE to choose one of them.
Is there any way I can either select the track before import, or import them all, then delete the ones I don't want?

This presents a dilemma, if there are several Audio Tracks on the DVD. With just the Import of the VOB's, you will get the Audio from Audio Track 1, and this will depend on where the DVD was authored. The supplemental Audio Tracks will be available on a set-top player, or DVD software player, via either a Menu, or via the Audio button on the remote control.
The two ways to handle this would be to hook up the DVD player to an A-D bridge, connected via FireWire, navigate to the Audio Track Menu, and set that, then cue up the DVD to where you wish to start, and then do a Capture into PrE.
The other would be to use DVD ripping software, to extract everything, including the supplemental Audio. I believe that Video ReDo and DVDDecrypter can do this, but you might want to explore them.
Getting that supplemental Audio is tricky, and much of the success will depend on the authoring of that DVD.
    Good luck,

  • Trouble when importing DVD / VOB file, as well as locating it.

    Hi all,
I'm currently working on a recruitment project for my local amercian football team and had requested a DVD of a previous episode on BBC where they did a report on the team. Upon receiving the DVD they ripped for me, it contains a title screen and lasts about 1:00 - 1:30.
The problem is when i try importing the DVD as a whole (excluding the title sequence) to Premiere Pro, it only manages to locate a video file lasting 00:12 seconds.
I have read that the VOB file must be converted to AVI and that the DVD must be ripped, but if i perform this will it rip the whole DVD disk? If i have to select the exact files i wont be able to perfom the task needed as the full length video is not located on the disk, as far as i am aware.
Is there anyway to get around this, perhaps by importing the DVD as a whole straight into Adobe Premiere Pro?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
    Revilo

How many VOB's appear in the VIDEO_TS folder?
The MPEG-2 AV portion can span many. Also, if there is any Menu, or navigation, it will occupy part of the first VOB, and the AV portion might only start there, and finish farther down the VOB chain.
Also, if the TV station used a DVR, then all bets will be off, as those devices (and some authoring software) usually create non-compliant DVD's, and especially that first VOB can be highly problematic.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How select a range or portion of a clip when importing?

Upgraded from FC Studio 5.1 to FCP10.1 when importing media (mp4 or AVCHD) from the hard drive how do I select a range or portion of a clip in the media import window if I do not want to import the entire clip into FCP.  At this point I can select the entire clip indicated by the yellow outline around it however there does not appear to be any way to click drag to resize the yellow outline to select just a portion of the clip.
    Thanks for any help.

So if I have a 500mb .mp4 clip I have to import the entire clip? No possible way to select a range?  However FC alows native folder AVCHD clip portions to be imported, very interesting.
If I connect my Canon xa20 via USB to my iMac would FC then alow me to select clip portions (AVCHD or .mp4) to import?
