Selecting multiple artists to play in iTunes (on computer)

Occasionally I'd like to select all the songs my more than one artist to stream. I don't want to have to create a playlist. Is there a way I can type in more than one artist name to select?

Here is the log. Looks like its QT is crashing it. So, again, its either QT, or one of the Vista updates. I haven't tried to watch a movie on the computer in awhile so I have no idea what update in the past few months is causing the problem.

  • Selecting Multiple Artists Using cmd+click Now Gone in iTunes 11?

I like sleeping to music, and with previous installments of iTunes, I was easily able to select multiple artists  simply by holding the command button (on a Mac) and clicking the name on the artist. This was also great because I could make it loop over with repeat, or shuffle through the selections. With iTunes 11, though you can make a playlist with the Up Next feature, it looks like you can't make anything in the Up Next playlist repeat or shuffle through if not doing it manually.
The function still seems to have worked for individual songs. Is there a way to make multiple selections of artists? Or if I have to move to the Up Next feature, is there a way to make it shuffle or repeat? Even still, I'd love to be able to select multiple artists for other things such as editing information or deleting things.

    Click Songs at top.
iTunes menu View > Column browser > Show browser.
You can now select multiple Artists/Albums at top.

  • When selecting a song to play in iTunes, I get an error message indicating the song could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it.  I have no idea where to look since the library hold all my files.

When selecting a song to play from iTunes library, I continually get an error message indicating the original file could not be found.  Then asks, would you like to locate it?  Does anyone know how to fix this?   I'm not even able to play the songs I purchased due to this error message.  Any ideas how to remedy this problem?
    Thanks

It would help to have more background about your iTunes collection such as if you keep it on an external drive, or if you have moved or renamed anything recently.  iTunes is very sensitive to you renaming or moving files or folders involved with your media.  iTunes only keeps a reference to where a media file is located  and then goes to look for it when you try to play it. If you have changed things since it was added to itunes then it's like me sending you to look for a friend in my addressbook but that friend has moved.
The other possibility is your computer is starting to lose files.  Again, the computer uses a reference database to tell it where on the drive to look for a file. If that database gets corrupt then it starts losing files.  Use Dsk Utility's first aid to verify your hard drive.

  • Error playing from iTunes on computer to Apple TV after updating to iOS 7

I updated all of my devices (iPhone 5, iTunes on computer, iPad 3 and Apple TV 3rd generation) when iOS 7 was released last week. Since then I cannot play any media from iTunes on my computer to the Apple TV. The iPhone and iPad work great (music, videos, mirror). I keep getting message, "Error occurred connecting to the Airplay device. The connection timed out". I have tried everything, from disconnecting everything, restarting computer, etc. Any ideas?

OK, so you are trying to initiate it from iTunes.

  • Videos will no longer play in iTunes on computer

I am running 32 bit Vista and iTunes 8.02 and quicktime 7.5.5. I just installed the digital version of Appoloosa and it either crashes iTunes or plays with a green screen. I tried my other digital copies I have watched before without a problem and they crash iTunes. I tried disabiling Direct 3D in Quicktime and even safe mode. The only thing I got was it playing in white. HELP!

Here is the log. Looks like its QT is crashing it. So, again, its either QT, or one of the Vista updates. I haven't tried to watch a movie on the computer in awhile so I have no idea what update in the past few months is causing the problem.

  • Music won't play in iTunes on computer

When I play anything in iTunes, on my computer the play button changes like the song is playing but the song never starts. Music plays fine on all devices, but not my computer. HELP!!
    Thanks!!

I have exactly the same issue. It seems surprising that there are no answers after a week, and no similar questions!

  • Audio Plays in iTunes on Computer, not on iPod

    To all,
I used WireTap Pro to move some old language lessons from audio cassette tape to iTunes on my Mac--worked great. No problem, they are stored as Music and are MPEG-1, Layer 3 files.
Synched them to my iPod. They synched alright but everytime I try to play them on the iPod, they crash my iPod?! No other iPod music problems. The crash occurs at the very beginning as it looks like the iPod is trying to figure out what it is opening. Never gets out any sound before crash.
Any ideas on why, or work arounds?
    Thanks.
    MBPro 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

you might want to check the file type of the exported file, you may have changed the export settings?
I think only mp3 and aac audio files will play on the ipod (could be wrong)
for example iTunes will play full resolution AIFF files (standard format on retail cd's) but I'm pretty sure the ipod will not play them (again could be wrong on this?)

  • [Desktop] Select and Add multiple artists or multiple albums to playlist

Add a way to add an artist and their albums/songs to a playlist, or be able to select multiple albums to add to a playlist.like you can select multiple songs to add to a list. This may have been asked before, but after digging around I couldn't find much on the subject. there are times I find it would be easier just to select multiple artists or albums artist to a playlist instead of just a song.

    Updated: 2015-08-04Marked as new idea.

  • How do I select multiple messages from one sender in mobile email to delete them all at once?

I know how to select all of the new messages and mark as read. Now how would I do that if I wished to delete all from one sender or have the same subject, after I search the sender or subject?

    Hey Koyster,
Great question. Utilizing iCloud.com, we may be able to purge these emails in a much faster way:
    iCloud: Delete email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2651
    Delete messages
    - On your Mac, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent messages or Command-click to select multiple nonadjacent messages.
    - On your Windows computer, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent messages or Control-click to select multiple nonadjacent messages.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Multiple artists with same tracks but iTunes library is sane

Ok, so I have a problem with multiple artists on my iPod. I know this has been discussed a lot before, but I haven't seen this actual problem yet. The problem is I don't get just one or two multiple cases, we're talking like 20-30 multiple instances of the same spelling of an artist and with all the same tracks listed when you select each multiple instance, however the iTunes library appears to be fine. I've tried resetting the iPod, restoring the iPod, and nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
    IBM ThinkPad   Windows XP Pro

What you can try is to convert the song that appears on your iPod. This creates another file of the same song. Find the song that shows up multiple times on your iPod and right click the song. Choose the option "Convert to AAC" or somthing close to that. After converting, there will be two songs listed on your iTunes library. Delete the old song, and keep the new one that you just created. And if this problem still persists, then you have to delete that song and get another copy of that song elsewhere.

  • 9 Multiple artists on iPod & only 2 in iTunes

    I have 9 multiple artists on my iPod & 4 in iTunes;
On iPod: The Bloodhound Gang (5 times) & Bloodhound Gang (4 times)
On iTunes: The Bloodhound Gang (2 times) & Bloodhound Gang (1 time)
I have attempted to delete Bloodhound Gang on iTunes, only to have it reappear every time I sync my iPod. Also, I have attempted to change the name to only list The Bloodhound Gang, so to only list 1 artist, but that doesn't work either. All tracks are from one album, with 2 tracks purchased from iTunes and the whole CD loaded later. The Bloodhound Gang is for the whole CD, while just Bloodhound Gang is for the single tracks purchased. My iPod is PC format.

It will be easier if you use the same artist name & album artist name for all tracks from the same album. Since you have duplicate tracks I would suggest you also uncheck these and use the option to *Sync only check items*. The multiple albums issue ocurs because "The Artist" & "Artist" get sorted together, but the iPod registers the change in artist name as it is ennumerating the tracks and so creates a new album cover. Read on for more info.
    *HowTo: Grouping Tracks Into Albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your iTunes library.
    *Use an album friendly view*
iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Artist until it reads Album by Artist.
    *One cover, too many tracks*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover or append different numbers of spaces for each different album. Somewhat oddly, setting different values for Sort Album doesn't work.
*Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist*
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
    *One album, too many covers*
For true compilations, where each track is by a different artist, the answer is to set the compilation flag to true and enable the iTunes preference to *Group compilations when browsing*. If the album is not a compilation however, any tracks which list guest artists may be treated as separate items. Filling in the Album Artist field is enough to link things in iTunes. Sadly, however, the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums so this is only a partial solution. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate that this is information about the track as distinct from the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
*One album, still too many covers*
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
*Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!*
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading articles (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
    *One cover for multi-disc album*
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track (so that no two tracks ever have the same number) until I reach disc 1. BTW You can still give the individual discs different artwork should it be relevant so that the correct artwork will be displayed as the album progresses.
    *One artist, many names*
With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field.

  • Itunes match  how do you to select multiple songs or do you click each one

In ITunes match  how do you to select multiple songs to download to pc or do you have to click each one.

First make sure you have the current version of iTunes, which is actually 10.5.1.  I had to manually download it from apples website, for some reason, it wouldnt auto-update.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Once that is complete, go to the iTunes store. In the Quick Links secion to the right, you should see iTunes Match. This will prompt you to activate your subscription to iTunes match.  After that it should ask you to add your computer and once youve done that, it should begin the process of scanning your library and adding it to the cloud
Alternatively, once you activate your subscription, you can also go to the Store dropdown menu in iTunes and select Turn On iTunes Match.

    Bilu,
It is a little tricky, but it can be done by using nested rules.  The playlist pictured below will do what you want:  all songs by the named artists, as long as the song has 4 or 5 stars.
Note:  The ellipsis ("...") button is used to nest a rule.  It appears automatically on Windows, but on the Mac you have to use the Option key.
