Selecting Multiple Playlists in iTunes 5

I'm moving a LOT of playlists (>1000) into folders. So far, I haven't found a way to select multiple playlists to move into a folder (using the usual "shift-click or cntl-click" techniques for selecting multiple items).
Any ideas? Or am I stuck...dragging a single playlist at a time (ugh!)
Thanks, Steve

Aha! That makes perfect sense. I assumed they used the ITL file for operations...but hoped that the XML that gets generated would have all the information that would reside in the ITL file (thus, if you modified the XML, blew away the ITL & rebuilt from the XML, your information would be updated). Looks like at least for now, the folder information doesn't make it to the XML.
Thanks, Steve

  • Selecting multiple playlists

Searching for an answer to my question it seems I'm not the only iTunes user trying to select multiple playlists or multiple folders at once.
I used Doug's iTunes script to create a playlist for each album. Great script by the way!
Now I have several hundred playlists, which I'd like to organise in some categories. I would like to select several playlists to drag and organise them in certain folders.
No such luck. I need to drag one by one.
Does anyone have a solution to select multiple playlists?

You can send in your feature suggestions on the Mac OS X Feedback page.

how to delete multiple playlists from itunes?

Have you subscribed to iTunes Match? There is a bug that can sometimes create hundreds of duplicate empty playlists. I've two scripts which might help you clean up: KillEmptyPlaylists and KillTopLevelPlaylists. This post describes a technique for resetting iTunes Match to stop it happening again.

  • How do I select multiple tracks in iTunes?

It's like a hold down control and something else, and then drag the curser to select the songs you want selected. I'm not sure what this shortcut is. Again, I want to select multiple tracks on iTunes so I can move files or delete them. Simply selecting all won't work because the files are different names. Anyone know this shortcut? Thanks!

If you click a track, hold down shift, and then click another one, it will select all the tracks between those two. Holding down command (the apple key) will allow you to select/deselect individual tracks.

  • Select multiple playlists for burning to DVD Data disc?

Hi, i need to burn about 5 playlists to a DVD Data Disc for temp backup, iTunes only is allowing me to select one playlist at a time. Of corse one play list is about 300 meg and this is totally wasteful of a DVD.
Anyone know how to burn multiple playlists to a single disc? maybe some other app can read iTunes's playlists and provide burning?
I want each playlist to create a self titled folder on disc with the tunes in each.
    Thanks

    Hi man, good idea.
Unfortunately, in iTunes, the "Burn Data Disc" button disappears when the folder is selected, in addition to the burn menu item. The burn button reappears when a single playlist inside the folder is selected, unfortunately again, more than one playlist cannot be selected.
It does appear iTunes can burn only 1 single playlist to a disc or the entire library and nothing in between which is very problematic for me right now.
Sadly the "Back Up to Disc" option in the File menu provides the following options :
"Back Up entire iTunes library and playlist"
"Back Up only iTunes Store purchases"
This appears also to be useless.
Toast 8 won't import exported iTunes XML playlists either and just burn the tracks in each playlist to a folder on the disk.
Suppose we need "iTunes Pro" to do something simple as I require :-((

  • Can't select multiple speakers in iTunes 10.3.1

Since updating to iTunes 10.3.1, I can no longer select multiple speakers (Airport Express, AppleTV) to stream music. Even though the checkbox looks clickable, it does not stay clicked.
    I have a 2x2.8 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon MacPro running 10.6.8.

    open system preferences
    open network pane
select airport in the left list
    click the advanced button
    go to the TCP/IP tab
set the configure IPv6 field to OFF.
    click OK
    click apply
now try again to connect to your remote speakers.
if this doesn't help, you may be suffering from wireless interference.
download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on, then change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • Possible to select movie playlists on iTunes?

Just upgraded to Apple TV 2 and wondered whether it is possible to select a playlist rather all the files on a Mac that you connect to? When I connect to my Movies I only seem to have the option of seeing all my movies rather than playlists with selected movies.....

you have to enable playlists in the appletv settings menu.
do that and it will show all your movie and tv show playlists (as well as music).

  • Searching for one song across multiple playlists in itunes

I have many playlists that I've created in itunes. Some of them include the same songs. Is there a way or a particular third-party software that I can employ to search for a particular tune amongst all my playlists?
For example, the song "Feelin' Alright" comes up in at least 4 of my 35 or so playlists, though I'm not sure which ones off hand. Is there a way I can keep track of "Feelin' Alright"; that is, do a search and have itunes give me those results (how many times, which playlists, which position in each playlist, etc)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might already know this, but if you highlight a song in iTunes and then right-click, a window will appear with options. Selecting the Show In Playlist option will show you the names of the playlists in wish the song appears ...

  • How can I view multiple playlists in iTunes?

In the old version of iTunes I could double-click and that would open the playlist in a new window so that it could be compared to another playlist etc. Is there a way to do this in the new version of iTunes?

  • How do I import multiple playlists into iTunes?

I have a folder on my PC named "Music" inside this folder are 5,372 sub-folders each containing the songs from specific albums, and an m3u file representing the playlist for that album. I have just started using iTunes. I have imported the music from the "Music" folder, but the playlists haven't been transfered. I have attempted to import them, but it seems that I must do it one at a time? I have tried to drag and drop them all at one, but this creates on playlist file that contains all songs, rather than the 5,372 individual playlists that I desire. Is there anyway to import all of these playlists at one time, or is iTunes a big waste of time requiring my to import 5,372 individual files?

I use OSX and iTunes and have the same approach as Scarecrow. I have about 1170 Albums/CD's which have been copied at various times over the years into my Music Library file - with each Album/CD being a subfolder. Multi-CD releases are all in one subfolder. Many CD's were not copied using iTunes and as I no longer have those old CD's - I cannot recopy them. Importing them into Music makes a real mess with many subfolders now in Music as individual non-grouped songs. So, it is easier and neater for me to make each album or CD it's own playlist. It is also then very easy to access my library via my Roku Soundbridge and copies neatly into my iPod and iPhone. It would be a real plus to have a 'bulk-copy' methodology into Playlists or Music that keet all of these items 'together'. Dragging 1170+ items took a long time! If anyone has any specific approach or recommendation I would be most interested in learning it. Thanks.

  • How can I select multiple songs in iTunes without having to hold the Command key while clicking each individual song

Trying to drag a block of songs from iTunes into TuneUp and I have about 1800 songs to bring in.  TuneUp maxes out at 1000 songs per batch, so I can't use Select All, but I also don't want to Command + Click 800 times to get all of those songs selected.
    Thanks in advance.

Answered my own question.  Select song at the beginning of the list.  Hold down the shift key.  Go to the last song you want in your list.  Click that song.  All songs in between will be highlighted.  Such and idiot.

  • Multiple Playlist Selection

I have all of my iTunes library in playlists. There are over 900 of them totaling over 57GB of music. What is the simplist way to load selected playlists onto a new iPod. Auot synch is not an option. I want to select multiple playlists and then drag them to the iPod.

    Norman Armour wrote:
No. I create a playlist for each album. I only listen to albums, not hit or miss.
900 playlists will make iTunes sluggish. Have you used the Browser? It's a pre-made set of playlists by artist, album, and genre, built in to iTunes — much easier than creating a playlist for each album.
If you want to sync only selected playlists to your iPod, use "Sync Selected Playlists" under the Music tab of your iPod screen in iTunes.

  • [Desktop] Select and organize multiple playlists

This is a direct copy of this idea which was originally posted 2 years ago.  I wasn't a user then, and this idea has since been made inactive, so I'm resurrecting it.  Even just a shift-select on the desktop app would help immeasurably.  Here's the original idea:
"I am looking for easy ways to organize my library.
I want to do some housekeeping in my library, but I find the current system of dragging and dropping individual playlists is too time consuming when the number of playlists reach this high.
First of all, there should be a way to select multiple playlists at once and be able to handle multiple playlists the same way as I can handle single playlist (ability to drag and drop, and rightclick w/ a special dropdown menu for multiple selected items).
    Ctrl-clicking, shift-clicking and shift+arrowkeys would help greatly.
[Edit] This idea is nearing its 2 year anniversary of no official recognition. Good times! :)
As a sidenote my Spotify library now consists of 1296 playlists."

Thanks @martskre !   Your idea is solid and seemingly easy enough to implement, I have no idea why it's taken 3 years.  As loyal Spotify premium users build their libraries over time, we increasingly need streamlined ways to manage these libraries.  Selecting multiple playlists to move/copy/delete is the most simple of these.   would it be possible to get a rough roadmap or any info as to why this is being held up?  Thanks so much for your help!

  • How can I batch change the view options of multiple playlists?

I would like to select multiple playlists and batch change their view options; seems like an obvious feature that should be there, but it does not seem to be there. I know of Assimilate View Options v2.2 in Doug's AppleScripts, but this is not what I want, since AWO requires you to do the change playlist by playlist, i.e., not in batch mode (and I have hundreds of playlists ...). Any idea? Please answer privately at [email protected] since I do not read this forum regularly. Thanks in advance for your help!

did you also check out the following script ?
    [_*Change Hidden iTunes Preferences v2.4*_|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=changehiddenprefs]
This application will allow you to invoke hidden iTunes preferences:
    Show "Library" playlist
    *Changing view setting is global*
    Allow half-stars in ratings
    Hide "Ping" buttons
Show/hide arrow links -- to either search the iTunes Store or search your library
Load complete iTunes Store preview before playing
Create playlists for purchased song collections
Play songs while importing or converting
Create file names with track number
Maintain grid view for Search results
Option-click zoom button for Mini Player
    Show buttons horizontally
