Selecting Pantone Equivalents of Process Colours

I've searched through the forums, and I haven't been able to find anything beside a passing mention covering this topic (but I could be missing the magic word in my search).
On a regular basis, we receive artwork from clients that, although pretty, has not been streamlined for our printing process (flexographic), and as such, we generally need to tweak most everything that comes in. One of the more unpleasurable tasks is selecting PMS swatches to replace process colours.
Currently, we either flip through the Pantone Solid to Process Guide to find a match, or try to find a match in Illustrator by colouring swatches on-screen with different PMS colours until we find the one closest to out process target (and then take a boo in the Solid to Process guide just to be safe).
I really hope someone can make me feel like a dolt by pointing out an easy and reliable way to do this. Much thanks.

In CS3 select the objects you want to get the nearest spot color match.

Then go to Edit>Edit Color > Recolor Art in the center bottom right of the color sliders there is a swatch icon you can select and swatch library you have in the swatches folder including color books for say Pantone.

That will do it. You can save it as a group or can have it recolor the art or both.

• PANTONE 4-Color Process in Adobe

Tearing my hair out here, so I'm turning to people no doubt far more knowledgeable and experienced than me!
I've been given some style guidelines which contain colours referenced by the Pantone Process system, e.g. Pantone DE 196-2 C.
Is it possible to find this colour as a swatch in an Adobe application? It seems that all of the Adobe Pantone libraries use a different numbering convention (PMS).
I've heard mention of "Pantone Process Coated" libraries - I'm not seeing that as part of my CS6 Design Standard installation. I do have "Pantone CMYK Coated", but it uses a numbering convention along the lines of "Pantone P 123-4 C".
Any help? If you're given a colour spec using Pantone Process colours, how do you get started in Adobe?
Many thanks in advance
Pete.

Last post was a while ago, but if you still need the information, the swatches appear to be in the:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books (Windows). On a Mac it's probably very similar location, once you get to the Illustrator CS4 folder.
The files are Adobe Color Book files. I did a quick test and I was able to import them into Illustrator CC. You could also make a copy of the ACB file and put it into the same location for CS6. That way when you start up it will always be in your Swatches > Color Books list.

• Matching pantone solids to process

Ok, so I only have a pantone booklet for printing inks. Say I choose a color from there. 322U. I know color bridge is somehow used for pantone maching with process colors. How do I know which swatch to pick that will be closest to 322U? I've been looking all over and I feel like it's right in front of my eyes but I'm not seeing it. I've tried using Color Bridge CMYK UP 322U and it comes out much bluer. Is it my printer, or am I not using the right pantone color? Thanks for your help, I'm new to pantone color matching.

You have to try and focus on the swatch samples, not the monitor. Your workflow just may be short on accuracy. If the print does not match, it's the printer. The printed swatch reference books from Pantone are there for verification on what is possible via a calibrated system and an advance RIP for color conversions. If you are compelled to try and match the 322 using your existing system, then create a series of your own swatches and create your own CMYK deviants based on the original 100c, 0m, 33y, 35k formula. This could be a full sheet of 1x1 swatches in 5% increments + and - from the original formula. Print those and select the one that comes closest to your swatch book 322. That's the formula you use in your file's proof. You will have to retain a backup copy of the file using the standard formula that will go to press. So, one file to press, one file to your desktop printer. But, the value of a Postscript RIP is understated here. An Epson 4800 Pro with a Colorburst RIP will do all of the Spot color matching for you. You simply indicate in Illustrator which elements to specify Spot color and assign 322 to them. The RIP will use color tables in conjunction with the RIP to print the Spot color to a close 322 using process color. On press, the 322 will be output as a plate and printed using Spot 322U.

• Reg: SQL select Query in BPEL process flow

Hi,
I am suppose to execute a SQL select query (in BPEL Process flow) as mention below in JDeveloper using Database adapter.

SELECT LENGTH, WIDTH, HEIGHT, WEIGHT,

LENGTH*WIDTH* HEIGHT AS ITEM_CUBE

FROM CUBE

WHERE ITEM= <xyz>

AND OBJECT= (SELECT CASE_NAME FROM CUBE_SUPPLIER WHERE ITEM=<xyz> AND SUPP_IND = ‘Y')
Now my question is:
1. What does this "*" refer to in the query and how can I retrieve the value of LENGTH*WIDTH* HEIGHT from the query where LENGTH,WIDTH and HEIGHT are the individual field in the table.
2.What does this " AS" refer to? If " ITEM_CUBE " is the alies for the table name "ITEM" to retrieve the value, then query shoud be evaluated as

SELECT LENGTH, WIDTH, HEIGHT, WEIGHT,

LENGTH*WIDTH* HEIGHT AS ITEM_CUBE

FROM CUBE

WHERE ITEM_CUBE.ITEM= <xyz>

AND ITEM_CUBE.OBJECT= (SELECT CASE_NAME FROM CUBE_SUPPLIER WHERE ITEM=<xyz> AND SUPP_IND = ‘Y')
Is my assumption correct?
Please suggest asap.
Thanks...

Hi
Thank for your reply!
I have a nested select query which performs on two different table as shown below:

SELECT LENGTH, WIDTH, HEIGHT, WEIGHT,

LENGTH*WIDTH* HEIGHT AS ITEM_CUBE

FROM CUBE

WHERE ITEM= <abc>

AND OBJECT= (SELECT NAME FROM SUPPLIER WHERE ITEM=<Item> AND SUPP_IND = ‘Y')
I am using DB adapter of Oracle JDeveloper in BPEL process flow, where I can able to select only one master table in DB adapter say SUPPLIER and its attributes at a time. But as per my requirment I need to select both the table (CUBE and SUPPLIER) in a single adapter to execute my query.
It can be achievable by using two DB adapter , One to execute the nested query and another to execute the main qyery considering value of nested query as a parameter. But I want to achieve it by using a single one.
Am I correct with my concept?
Please suggest how to get it ?

Hi there! So I am using Lightroom 3 on a pc and I have ran into an issue when exporting images. The DPI and image size (in inches) that I am selecting during the export process. For example I just exported a collection and set the dpi to 180 and the size to 7 inches on the long edge. My exported result is 457 dpi and sized at 3200x2134 pixels.. Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

The DPI setting in a digital image has no meaning at all. You need to learn how to calculate what you need in your exported image. The only measurement in a digital image that has any meaning is the number of pixels in each direction. It doesn't matter what you set that DPI to (actually it's PPI or pixels per inch). The image will have the same number of pixels regardless of the setting. If you need an image that is 5 x 7" (for example) at 200 PPI then you would want an image that measured:
5 x 200 = 1000 pixels
7 x 200 = 1400 pixels
So you would need an image that is 1000 x 1400 pixels to have a 5 x 7" image at 200 PPI. The reason your exported image had such a high PPI setting is because you specified the number of inches you wanted the image to be. And there were enough pixels in the image that it calculated out to be that high PPI setting.
I apologize, I don't explain this very well. But you need to learn to do the math to determine how large you really want your exported images to be.

• Can't find Process colours in Pantone Plus swatch palette

Hello All. I'd really appreciate some help with how you find certain pantone colours in the Pantone Plus swatch palete in Illustrator CS4.
I recently downloaded and installed this upgrade to complete a job and now I'm wishing I hadn't bothered! I can't seem to find most of the 'basic' colours like Process Magenta, Process Green etc all the colours that used to appear at the 'top' of the swatch palette when it was plain old Pantone. The find field is no use whatsoever as I can't seem to find any combination of phrases that select the colours I want. If I put in 'process' because I'm looking for process cyan or process magenta it just selects process blue instead. Its extremely frustrating!
Am I missing something obvious? Does anyone have a solution, please?
Many thanks.

• Pantone solid to process conversion using Adobe Illustrator CS5

Hello everyone.
I´m having a little problem converting a solid color to process using the Adobe Swatch Libraries.
I own a Pantone Color Bridge Coated and Uncoated set books and I chose the color 3262 C for a client of mine.
On the book the equivalent process color for this solid one is C 76 M 0 Y 38 K 0.
But, when I select the same solid color on Adobe Illustrator, and I ask to convert to process, the software is giving me different CMYK coordinates. The software is showing the "correct" process color equivalent to 3626 C is C 78 M 0 Y 32 K 0.
Ok, now my questions:
- Which one I should consider as the most accurate solid to process conversion? The book or the Adobe conversion?
- Maybe my Adobe Illustrator is not updated? I downloaded the digital Libraries from Pantone web site and I´m still getting this mismatch.
- Maybe the book is not updated ? I just bought the "Pantone Plus Series" this week - it´s the most update book of Pantone!).
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I think I found my answer. And it´s easier than I thought.
I contacted the Pantone suport and they just realize I was talking about other book.
I have the Pantone Color Bridge Books. But not the standard ones. I have the Plus Series (with the green cover). This is the most updated books from Pantone.
The Plus Series has different CMYK equivalents, because in this edition they unified the European and the North American CYMK standards.
And of course, because of that, the Adobe swatches libraries was outdated.
Then I just downloaded the new PANTONE PLUS Digital Libraries for Adobe on Pantone´s web site. Now I can pick the right color, just selecting the Pantone+ in the swatches libraries. Here is the link: http://www.pantone.com/pages/Pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=20721 (you have to be a registered member to download it).
Now I have the same both CMYK coordinates from the book and from the Adobe conversion.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help!

• Can I make a custom colour out of a 1 spot colour and 1 process colour?

Hi all.
I'm trying to convert a clients colour to a Pantone 802 to run on an indigo press.
To get close to the colour I can use a mix of the indigo green and 75% yellow but now i need to convert all my clients colour to my special colour.
Id like to do this in Acrobat because they send alot of files and a global change would be the quickest was of converting.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi Peter. Thanks for the reply.
I assumed that if I used the project style sheet during the export, Word would convert the style so that it looked the same as in the HTML. Is that a bad assumption? I'm currently not mapping to any template equivalent for these message box styles. I did try it as one of my attempts, but I couldn't figure it out. It never seemed to take the style in the .dot.
Anyway, if I use just 1 style, such as just the MsgBox, I obviously don't get the white paragraph between the title and message. That white paragraph comes from the first
tag in the MsgBox style. But I need to have the
tags in there because they're better for our localization process than line breaks.
I did do some tweaks that made it look better. Basically I structured it so that the MsgBoxTitle div is now inside the MsgBox div. Something like this:

PC-DMIS MESSAGE:

Please do the following steps in the indicated order.

1. Remove the current SH-1/2/3 stylus.

2. Attach the SHSP (Stylus Holder Setting Piece).

3. Jog the probe to a safe location with a clear line of approach
to the port(s) being calibrated.

4. Then click OK.

After you click OK the machine will begin DCC measurement.

And then I adjusted my styles borders, padding, and thickness. That helped it look more connected, but still doesn't look quite right:
Would love to get rid of that white space after the title.
If you have time, I would be interested in a more detailed example of how you did it.

• Spot Pantone to CMYK processed with ease?

Hi,
I am placing a series of graphic art samples that consist of
Pantone spot colors into what will be a CMYK (processed color)
document for a presentation.
How can I convert all the samples that are Pantone assigned
color to CMYK easily?? Is there a broad selection sort of solution
because these are detailed & I don't want to have to
individually click each & every element by hand + click on the
color mixer to convert...that would take ages!

r_tist,
I'm very sorry, my advice to create a composite CMYK PDF via
the print
dialog does not work. I should have checked before I wrote
that. You are
correct. The Pantone spot colors will be preserved in the
PDF.
I'm fairly confident the PDF would print fine, as long as the
printer
selected 'separations' and 'convert all spots to process' in
the Acrobat
Advanced Print Setup. However, you'd be relying on someone
else to make sure
that happened.
I do know that Pantone solid colors will correctly output to
process
separations when 'print spot colors as process' is checked in
the FH print
dialog.
You may want talk to your print shop and see what kind of
file they would
prefer. Because they would know the characteristics of their
own press and
paper, they may want to do their own adjustments to convert
Pantone solid
colors to CMYK.

• How to display multiple categories of webapp items in list view? Changing listbox list to checkbox list to select category in submission process?

Hello!
1.
I am trying to get my page to list webapp items that are part of a few categories. I understand that if i want to view only one category, I just need to do the normal process of choosing that category and placing it out. So my question is: How do I display multiple categories of items in a webapp in a single page. I've tried this
{module_webapps,WEBAPP_ID,c,CATEGORY_ID1,,,,10,,1} {module_webapps,WEBAPP_ID,c,CATEGORY_ID2,,,,10,,1}
This only displays the everything from the first category, then everything from the next, which will not make it in order of date.
I've also tried this for fun:
{module_webapps,WEBAPP_ID,c,CATEGORY_ID1&CATEGORY_ID2,,,,10,,1}
How can I go about doing it?
2.
I am looking to allow users to input a webapp item and allow them to select a category to tie to that item.
Category (You may select more than 1)*

--- Option 1
--- Option 2

Is it possible for me to change the listbox style into a checkbox style such that the user doesn't have to control+click multiple options?

No answer to No.1 but I really want to find it out too.
No.2
If you already know list of the categories & ID you can manually create a list of checkboxes

something like that should work

Hello Experts,

Any idea how to go along with the codings.
Points will be assigned.
Thanks

Hi Prabhakar,
Whenever you do a BDC recording and create a program to handle BDC, an include BDCRECX1 is added automatically in the program. It contains the code for processing BDC.
In the include, you have code for subroutines like BDC_DYNPRO,BDC_FIELD. And in the main program , you have to call these functions in order to perform BDC.
Since your requirement is to do BDC processing when an event occurs, you have to hard code it.
Copy paste the code for BDC_DYNPRO and BDC_FIELD like this in the screen like this.
FORM bdc_dynpro USING program
dynpro.
CLEAR bdcdata.
bdcdata-program = program.
bdcdata-dynpro = dynpro.
bdcdata-dynbegin = 'X'.
APPEND bdcdata.
ENDFORM. " bdc_dynpro
*& Form bdc_field
text
-->P_0075   text
-->P_0076   text
FORM bdc_field USING fnam
fval.
DATA : nodata VALUE '/'.
IF fval <> nodata.
CLEAR bdcdata.
bdcdata-fnam = fnam.
bdcdata-fval = fval.
APPEND bdcdata.
ENDIF.
ENDFORM.
So what you have to do is
1) First do the BDC recording using SHDB and create a program , which contains automatically generated code for the recording.
2) In the previous program where you need to code for BDC handling corresponding to events, just copy paste the code in the newly created program like
perform bdc_dynpro using 'SAPLMGMM' '0060'.
perform bdc_field using 'BDC_CURSOR'
'RMMG1-MATNR'.
3) If you want the processing to be in foreground ,
write the statement
ws_mode = 'A'.
CALL TRANSACTION 'MM02' USING bdcdata MODE ws_mode
MESSAGES INTO messtab.
(In this case , the transaction is MM02).
This will work.
Regards,
SP.
