Selecting RAM for customized computer

Second in a series of questions about configuring a customized laptop to be suitable for using Premiere Elements 11 or 12.  There is a dizzying number of options available for RAM.  I realize at least 8 GB is advised, I'm happy to go to 12, but doesn't seem straightforward.  For example, 12GB comprising an 8GB and 4GB dual-channel 1600MHz is less expensive than 8GB (still dual channel) in two 4GB  sticks.  Is there a "RAM for dummies" page somewhere that might help?  TIA!  Specifically, I'm looking at ASUS laptops with plenty of available options, under $1300, if anyone out there is an ASUS expert.

I have been using Aperture on such a system, and it was o.k. with Snowleopard and moderately sized images. After I upgraded to Lion and started to user larger image files - 30 MB tiffs, I saw the occasional beachball spinning. You should be prepared to quit other applications that will hog the RAM (like Safari), when working with Aperture on Lion or Mt. Lion with only 4 GB. If you can, follow Frank Caggiano's recommendation and upgrade to 8GB. It will make a large difference.

  • ICR - Selection times for Customer vs Vendor open items

    All/Ralph
We have implemented note 1349849 and tested the selection again. I now have a strange result. The selection of customer open items is fast i.e. 120 000 records in 850 sec, however, the selection of the vendor items takes takes 3600 sec for same volume of items??...and times out.
I have executed several test runs using the selection parameters for both customer and vendor number (just to restrict to one associated company) and the results are consistent, the vendor items take around 3 to 10 times the time as for Customer items.
The respective total data volume in the open item tables was as follows:
    BSID - 1.8 mil records
    BSIK - 950K records
Has anyone experienced the above scenario?
    Regards
    Kris

    Hello Kris,
I suggest you run a trace on the selects and check which indices are used for the tables. You may want to create an additional index for BSIK (or BSAK?) to speed up processing.

  • How to get "Selected" color for custom toolbar buttons?

    RH 8.0.2.208
    RoboHelp HTML
    WebHelp output
I'm getting flack from internal QA folks about the custom toolbar buttons not having the same "selected" color as the default buttons (Contents, Index). I've copied the background color info from the <btnselected></btnselected> section for the built-in Contents to the <btnselected></btnselected> section for a custom toolbar button, but RH is ignoring it.
    Any hints?

You could try using the raw converter. Open one file and edit it (File>Open, pick the image and choose Camera Raw as the format before you click Open). Then open the next image and click the little four-lined square on the upper right side of the ACR window and choose Previous Conversion from the flyout menu.

  • Selection screen for custom table

We have developed a custom table and user want to have a selection selection screen similar to SE16. There are 9 fields in the table and user can enter data to the selection screen with any combination. My question is how do I filter based on the user input ? DO I need to write multiple SQL for different combination of selection screen parameter within IF ELSEIF statement ? If so then there will be huge number of SQL within IF & ELSEIF statment for 9 selection parameter. Please suggest if you have any better ideas.

Even after using select-option along with IN statement in where clause , it did not work.
I used following selection screen defination :
SELECTION-SCREEN: BEGIN OF BLOCK B2 WITH FRAME TITLE TEXT-002.
    SELECT-OPTIONS: P_PCBUS FOR MARA-ZZPC_BUSINESS NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_PCBUS1 FOR MARA-ZZPC_BUS_SUB1 NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_PLNFMT FOR MARA-ZZPLNG_FORMAT NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_PRDB FOR MARA-ZZPROD_BRAND NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_SEASCD FOR MARA-ZZSEASON_CODE NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_SNP FOR MARA-ZZSUP_NET_PATH NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_MAT_DC FOR MARA-MATNR NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS,
                    P_MAT_MG FOR MARA-MATNR NO-EXTENSION NO INTERVALS.
    SELECTION-SCREEN: END OF BLOCK B2.
    and SQL statement :
    SELECT ZZPC_BUSINESS
          FROM ZTB_RTL_TO_WHS
          INTO TABLE TA_ZZPCBUS
          WHERE ZZPC_BUSINESS =  P_PCBUS
          AND  ZZPC_BUS_SUB1  IN  P_PCBUS1
          AND   ZZPROD_BRAND   IN  P_PRDB
          AND  ZZPLNG_FORMAT   IN  P_PLNFMT
          AND  ZZSEASON_CODE   IN  P_SEASCD
          AND  ZZSUP_NET_PATH  IN  P_SNP
          AND  ZZD_MATNR       IN  P_MAT_DC
          AND  ZZM_MATNR       IN  P_MAT_MG.
While executing program, I only enterd value for the field P_PCBUS. Though record present for that value, I rcvd SY-SUBRC = 4.
    ANy Idea?

  • Restrict Select-Options for Logical Database field

The way we restrict select options for custom defined select option fields on selection screen.. can we restrict select options for standard Logical Database fields?
i.e. report uses PNPCE logical database and has field called PERNR. I want to restrict select options for this PERNR field so that it has options for 'Select single values' only.

You can user AT SELECTION-SCREEN event, and check whether any record is having high value for PNPPERNR.

  • RAM for Late 2006 Macbook Pro C2D?

Can anyone tell me what kind of RAM i would need to order for my machine?   Macbook Pro, C2D, 2.16 ghz, 15.4"
I've been having bad luck with crucial.com in getting either bad or incorrect batches of RAM to the point where two batches that came in wouldn't even allow the computer to turn on, and the one RAM that did allow the computer to turn on freezes the machine constantly.  It's extremely frustrating.
Orginally my machine had 1 GB of RAM, I have attempted to upgrade to 2GB x 2, so 4 GB's of RAM total.
I was on newegg shopping for RAM, as suggested by a apple genius bar employee, but I'm not sure which RAM to get.  Are there any differences in these?  Please see attached image.

    Welcome Mark!
The 2.16G C2D can access only a maximum of about 3.2G RAM, but installing 2 two 2G modules usually works. For easily a decade, I have purchased all my Mac RAM from two Mac-savvy online vendors and have always received the proper RAM. Here are their links to RAM for your computer:
    Other World Computing:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/Pro/Core2/
    Data Memory Systems:
    Apple MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 15.4" Screen(200 Pin PC2-5300 DDR2 SODIMMs)
We're a little handicapped here by not knowing your location. The links I posted are for US-baaed vendors. The first one ships internationally; the second only to certain countries.
Please consider editing your profile to include your approximate geographic location. That will make it easier for the community to help you.

  • RAM for a G4 (Digital Audio) 467 MHz?

    Hi,
The mac I use at work is (I think!) a G4 (Digital Audio) 467MHz model running OSX 10.3.9 Panther. My employer has said he will consider ordering more RAM for the computer and has asked me to do the legwork. Ideally I want to max out the RAM on this computer because it's unlikely my employer will be replacing it any time soon.
From reading this forum, I gather that Macs can be picky about RAM - I'd like your recommendations about what/how much to buy. Currently two slots have RAM of different sizes - am I correct that the computer will work more efficiently if all the slots have the same size RAM?
Here are the specs for the computer:

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Your G4 DA uses 168-pin PC-133 (unregistered, non-ECC, non-parity) SDRAM. A 16-chip (8 chips on each side), 512 MB DIMM is the largest that's supported in each memory slot. As long as the SDRAM meets the criteria, it doesn't need to be purchased from a Mac memory dealer, although you may have fewer compatibility problems (since some memory merchants aren't really familiar with Mac memory requirements). Unlike some PCs, Mac OS X doesn't run well with inexpensive/marginal quality memory, so your choice shouldn't be based on price alone. You can check out this dealer's prices, and compare prices at Ramseeker.com.
As far as mixing memory having different density chips, you may find a performance boost by using similar-density memory. A 512 MB DIMM with 16 chips and a 256 MB DIMM with 8 chips both have 256-Megabit chips. A 16-chip 256 MB DIMM and an 8-chip 128 MB DIMM have 128-Megabit chips. A 16-chip 128 MB DIMM has 64 Megabit chips. If your 128 MB DIMM is low-density memory, having more than 8 chips (either on one side, or 4 on each side), I'd remove it and replace it with something larger.

  • How to use Multiple Single Option for selection in the Customer Exit

    Hi,
How can we handle the multiple single values in the customer exit variable.
I have a requirement which is as follows -
Table A fiields -> Field Coach, Partner 2, Relation between PArtner 1 & Partner 2, Valid from, valid to date.
Table B ->  Service Month, Start Date, End Date.
    Table C -> Billing Date, Execution Partner,cal month /year.
For the Field coach in TABLE A, multiple Partner 2 are present.
Report has to be built on Table C.
User inputs the Service month and Field Coach . User can enter multiple field coach values.
For the All the Field Coach values entered, corresponding Partner2's have to be found from Table A and to be passed to the Execution Partner in Table C.
Now if we want to use customer exit variable on the field Execution Partner, how can we handle the Multiple Single selections in the customer exit.
    Thanks,
    Shubham

    Hi,
While creating the variable you must have to specify multiple value.
    In customer exit
write code multiple times and append the values.
    For example:
    when 'variable'.
    l_s_range - sign = 'I'.
    l_s_range - OPT = 'EQ.
    l_s_range - LOW = EXECUTION PARTNER 1.
    APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.
    l_s_range - sign = 'I'.
    l_s_range - OPT = 'EQ.
    l_s_range - LOW = EXECUTION PARTNER 2.
    APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.
    l_s_range - sign = 'I'.
    l_s_range - OPT = 'EQ.
    l_s_range - LOW = EXECUTION PARTNER 3.
    APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.

  • Need 4GB RAM for 2010 27 "computer where to buy it?

I need 2  4GB RAM for 2010 27 "computer where to buy it?

I installed exactly the combination you are considering in my 21.5 inch i-Mac a couple of weeks ago. I bought it from OWC based on comments and recommendations on this forum (and the fact that they are close to me as I was thinking of picking it up to save delivery time). As it turns out I had it sent, the RAM arrived the next day and I installed it in 10 minutes and it runs and performs perfectly.

  • Desired RAM for Computer

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum, but I’m wondering if someone can help me understand. When I bought my laptop, it was the laptop for my line of work and there were two ram options – 4 and 6GB. I bought the 6GB. That was 3 years ago. I’m now hearing things that lead me to believe I don’t have enough ram. That would make sense with the high usage alerts and occasional slow response times I’ll get.
I’m now learning that a graphic designer needs at least 8GB, preferably 16GB of ram on their computer. My question is – why? When I look up the system requirements for Photoshop, it only requires 1GB of ram, same with InDesign. The internet probably much, much less. The standard programs I’ll have open at the same time are Photoshop, InDesign and the internet. However, even if Photoshop if the only program open at that time, I might still get high usage alerts. I do realize that Windows 7 uses some ram too, but I’m still having a hard time understanding the logic behind 16GB ram. I don’t want to buy and install tons of extra ram just to do it. I want/need to understand why I’m doing it.

    More RAM is better.
    Much more is much better.
Photoshop stores not only the document you're editing, but also history states, cache levels, and other maintenance data.  Plus certain operations need extra RAM for intermediate work products (Content Aware Fill is a good example).
The larger (pixel count) images you work with, the more the RAM needs multiply out.  Use a deep data format and RAM needs double.
If I were building a brand new workstation today I would prefer 48 GB of RAM, though realistically 24 GB would probably be "enough" as long as a really fast scratch volume is available.
My current workstation has 16 GB of RAM.  I usually work with 10 megapixel photos in 16 bits/channel, and sometimes I stitch several together.  I use every bit of the 16 GB and quite a bit of scratch space.
