Selecting shapes after being traced

I have noticed in cs5 that after tracing an image and expanding it, I can sometime select specific parts of the artwork with the Direct Selection tool to apply a fill to a shape, and other times when I click it selects the entire artwork. Sometimes it seems to work and other times not. Is there a reason why it behaves this way after tracing? Is there an approach to this that works more effectively?
Thanks.

Just a result.
For example, you trace black and white artwork with a solid black line around the outside and have "Ignore White" checked in the tracing options. You'll get 1 compound shape. That's it. On the other hand, you trace black and white artwork that has a black edge in placed and contains disjointed figures, you may then get several different pieces.
The results of a Live Trace are entirely dependent upon the artwork being traced and the settings used to trace. There is no solid rule to always get the same resulting shapes.

  • Selecting shape after it was Send-to-Back

I cannot select any object after it was Send-to-Back.

I have experimented with a blank page and placed several different shapes on it. I moved one shape to the back using Send to Back and deselected it.
After deselection of the shape Send to Back this shape is not selectable again. There is no way to selected it and move it. The only remedy is to delete the page.

  • I have bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to print from my IPad. I have installed airport utility on my Hp laptop and it is configured correctly but the printer I have is showing neither on laptop nor on IPad. Can u tell how

I bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to AirPrint from my IPad. I have set up airport utility on my Hp laptop and configured it properly with the express. But still I'm not able to detect the printer attached to the USB port of airport express, neither on my laptop nor on my IPad. Can someone tell me if and how it can be done?

Who assured you that an AirPort Express would allow you to use AirPrint from an iPad. They were incorrect.
AirPrint from iPads and other iOS devices is only supported on a select few wireless network printers that expressly advertise that feature. An AirPort Express will not add that feature to a printer that does not support AirPrint. Also, for printers that do support AirPrint a wireless access point is not required since the printer needs to support wireless networks connections internally.
The HP laptop should however be able to print to the printer connected to the AirPort Express. Try also installing the Bonjour Print Services for Windows. It will make printer discovery a lot easier when using Bonjour enable devices like an AirPort Express.

    Hi,
+Has anyone else had this problem? Any workarounds?+
+I have a number of pictures that just show up in the wrong place in Places' list view, but I cannot seem to move them. For example, a photo will show up as being in state X in city Y when it was actually taken at a "Place" in state A, city B. So I click on the photo, hit command-i, type in the name of a place in A/B, and hit done. (Pressing command-i again shows the new name and a pin in the correct place.) However, the photo still shows up when I select state X and city Y from the places browser. This persists even after restarting iPhoto.+
    +Any ideas?+

+Does not seem to be an issue with the latest version of iPhoto.+
Im not sure why this has been closed as it is an issue for me as well,
eg, Trafalgar Square photos appear in the London Eye pushpin, but when checking the photos individually they are correct.
I am fully up to date with my software and this issue only appears to have raised itself on the latest version of iphoto (8.1 (415))
Removing the locations and re-adding them does not fix the issue you just end up with the same result or a different mixture of incorrect pictures in the push pins.

The best way to get assistance on the forum is to provide a clear and detailed description of the problem and report any steps you've already taken to solve the issue and anything that resulted therefrom.
Im not sure why this has been closed as it is an issue for me as well,
It's been closed because the User who had this issue found a solution. Only the person who creates the thread can close it. This person had no idea you even existed, let alone that you might have a similar issue. I'm sure if he had he'd have left it open, just waiting for you to come along.
Is not a resolving answer to the issue and appears to be a very narrow minded approach to resolving issues!
Let's see. Someone has an issue. They create a thread on the forum. They find a solution. They mark the thread as answered. This is narrow minded?

  • Move Selection Shape, Not Contents, To Another Layer

I understand that after creating any selection, CTRL-J copies the selection to a new layer, but that's not what I want to do.
I want to copy just the selection shape (i.e. its outline), not its contents, so that I can then apply that selection shape to any other existing layer.
The goal is to take a selected shape from  layer A, apply the shape to layer B, delete the area around the selection in layer B, and end up with a shape in layer B that contains the content pixels from layer B, not from layer A.
I have Photoshop version 9, CS2. I've tried to study up on masks, but haven't been able to find a bare-bones, beginner explanation of masks

    Good day!
You can store a Selection as an Alpha Channel and then load it as often as you like.
Also you may want to use Layer Masks, those can the duplicated onto other Layers (and if necessary inverted) easily.
I want to copy just the selection shape (i.e. its outline), not its contents, so that I can then apply that selection shape to any other existing layer.
That does not seem to make sense, an active Selection is a property of the file, not of a Layer.
The goal is to take a selected shape from  layer A, apply the shape to layer B, delete the area around the selection in layer B, and end up with a shape in layer B that contains the content pixels from layer B, not from layer A.
If the Selection is anti aliased or soft this may result in unnecessary fringes.
Could you please post a screenshot with the Layers Panel visible to clarify your intention?

  • How do i force a guest account to Auto log off after being inactive for a period of time?

I have a 2010 21" iMac running OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) in a hotel's guest lounge. I want to have it log off of the guest account after being inactive for 5 mins so that it clears the session info if the last person who used it did not log off when they were done (***this happens very often***).
I tried using the "System Preferences > Security> Log off when inactive for X minutes" option but this brings up the "Delete files and log off" dialogue which unless someone makes a selection just stays there and doesn't timeout, essentially stopping the logoff process.
How can i bypass that dialogue and force the system to log off the Guest User to avoid any issues with other guest seeing info from the previous user?

    Hi daniel,
I don't believe it's possible to do what you want, unless someone could write an Applescript for it. I suspect the best route for now is the old fashioned way, paper and marker, warning guests to log off or their info will be public.

  • After being away for two weeks my iMac wont send my Orange mail.

After being away on holiday for two weeks my iMac wont send my Orange mail. I get the message "The server “smtp.wanadoo.co.uk” refused to allow a connection on the default ports."
I have not changed any setting, the email sends if I login to Webmail, so the account itself is valid. The iMac mail downloads my email perfectly as normal. Using Mac OS X 10.6.8. Email address is one I have used for almost 10 years without any problems.
It is a POP3 account using default ports with no authentication or SSL. Have tried different ports (e.g. 26), putting password authentication on, but nothing works.
    Any ideas?

Fixed it. Played about with the port numbers and got a more detailed message:
Client host blocked for spamming issues. OUK104_102 Ref http://csi.cloudmark.com/reset-request/?ip=nn.nn.nn.n. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
Went to Cloudmark and got the IP reset. Took an evening of work but worth it.

  • IPOD Nano 4th Gen still plays but has black screen after being washed

A  few months ago my mother washed my iPOD Nano 4th Gen by accident - we had it in a bag of rice for a long time. After a while it refused to start up so we put in a drawer and hoped it would "magically" fix itself.
Few months later... it works (plays music, can select menus..)!
But the screen is black, lol.
I have tried restoring it in iTunes, also resetting the Nano repeatedly with the buttons and fiddling with the hold button, but none of it works... Could the backlight be shot after being damaged in the wash? Is it possible for Apple to restore it even though my warrenty is now gone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Pixelated worksheet after being minimized!

This is just a minor problem but, can anyone explain why my multi- worksheet workbook renders pixelated after being minimized and then maximized? The only way to correct it is to select another worksheet within the same workbook and then return back to the original one!

    Glen,
Just guessing, but is it possible that you're running short on memory, either RAM or HD? Shut down your unneeded apps and perhaps even try a Restart. See if things improve. If so, it may be memory. Beyond that, I would be at a loss.

  • Slatebook 14 at 96% after being off for a night.

    Hi once again:
I just recieved my Slatebook 14 two days ago.
Runs like a top and I LOVE IT!!!
    But I have one question.
As I asked in my subject line, Is it normal for it to be at 96-98% after being shutoff for a night?
It does go to a FULL CHARGE after being on for 10 or 15 minutes.
I had one ither tablet that did something like this, And I was just wanting to make sure it was normal for this one as well.
    Thanks in advance. Ricky
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I have been doing it as in the first one.
Holding down until it says Power Off and then Selecting the Power Off option.
If that is what you mean by the First Option?
I know that it has to be shutting off at least from the Factory, Or the battery would've been completely drained when I took it out of the box, At that time it was at like 80%
But I know that is normal when first coming out of the box.
Now I just thought of something.
I have shut it off with it still plugged into the Power Pack although it's not getting power through an outlet at the time because I have it on a cart.
    Could this be it?

  • Mail will not mark messages as read after being opened

Mail will not mark messages as read after being opened... the blue dot will NOT go away, no matter how many times I open the e-mail.
It's a simple pop account. I AM able to mark messages read with the message menu item (mark as read.) I also have nothing synced with it, no iPhone, no IMAP accounts, no .mac account, nothing.
But this is a real pain to have to do manually, when it used to happen automatically upon clicking the e-mail, it opening in a window to read, and then closing it.
All was working fine up until the 10.5.7 update. I hoped the 10.5.8 update would fix the problem, but no change. Everything else is working perfectly (I do the permissions repair/disk verify procedure before and after each update.)
Can't seem to find anyone else with this problem in here either, through search or just going through hundreds of messages.

    Okay, then lets try this:
    1. Select all your messages in the Inbox; then use the contextual menu or the Message > Mark menu to mark them all as Read.
    2. Quit Mail.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file.
    4. Restart Mail, wait for the index to rebuild and retrieve any new email you might have, and see if the problem contineus. Hopefully it will not.

Select the disc you want to copy from the listing.
Type a file name and choose "DVD/CD Master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

From the File menu, choose Burn Image.
Select the image you just created.
    Click the Burn button.
When prompted, insert a blank DVD-R disc.

  • How to Click on Shape After Rotating it?

In trying to answer a question on another forum ([java-forums question|http://www.java-forums.org/awt-swing/20517-how-select-shape-object-after-rotation.html]) on how to click on a shape after it has been rotated, I created an SSCCE (actually a little too big for one, sorry), and got a solution by re-rotating the shape in the mouse listener, but is this a decent solution? • All applications close after being open for 1 minute.

Recently, all applications I open on my Mac close after being open for 1 minute.  Safari and Microsoft word do not stay open for longer than 30 seconds.  Prior to this, my computer would freeze and eventually applications would close. I'm not sure why this is happening or how to fix it. Does anyone know what could of happen for everything to close after opening it? Any help would be great, thanks!
