Selection difficulties overcome?

Hi all,
Anyone who has used Dreamweaver, in Design View, for any length of time will know (or remember) what I mean when I say, "I'm having trouble placing my cursor in the right place to insert a [INSERT_FLAVOURED_OBJECT_HERE] in the right place."
So, I ask of you all to share your experiences and tips with me please, I'm a developer making DW work for me and as a by-product my team are now doing grunt work for me. I've created a bunch of fairly complex snippets, and then there's the other Insert options - how can I stop my designers inserting code into my snippet-inserted HTML chunks? Selecting before, or after seems to be equally as keen to insert things inside the last HTML chunk dropped on the page...
At the mo' I may have to resort to dropping in 'dud' chunks before and after each snippet's markup, so my Designers have somewhere natural-feeling to click.

That's great Murray, thanks for those tips - I have my team on that now.
Some of them aren't too tech-savvy, so for particularly tricky chunks of code, I've decided to add a before and after the inserted code chunk (they're actually part of the inserted code chunks), now my designers also have some clearly 'clickable areas' before and after complicated chunks of code (like stuff with floats and positions).
I search and replace out these tags before deployment (along with a lame twist on the 'clearfix' scenario, as identified here).

Selecting Difficult Shapes - Refine Edge Tool

In Elements 11 it was announced that selecting difficult shapes like hair for cutting out people etc was a new feature. I could find no guidance on how to do it in the program help or online.
I actually now know how to do it now because I have a tutorial from Digital Photo Magazine, but there needs to be guidance available on this new feature for anyone else who wants to use it. It didnt feature in the new guided edits or "How To" videos (Why not?)

Thanks Jon, it does give some guidance but isnt as good as the excellent guidance given in the UK Digital Photo Magazine CD in August 2012. Hunting around, I did find http://download.photoshopelementsuser.com/LC/LearningCenter11/LC11-RefineEdge.mov which is clearer, although in this case it shows selecting the background, not the person (just select the person if you want to cut them out instead). In the DP magazine it suggested doing a reasonably precise cut out with the polygonal lasso tool, doing the best you can around hair, then refining it with the refine edge brush. The results are excellent!
My main reason for posting this was to get Adobe to put something in help on this topic. What good is it introducing a new feature in Elements then giving absolutely no guidance on how it works?!

Font selection difficult

In both Premier Pro and Encore, it is difficult to select a font because I can't scroll the list with my mouse wheel and if I select a font and want to try another, I have to start from the top again and move slowly downthe list, which isn't in Alphabetical order. The following video shows this, first items not in Alphebetci order then selecting and starting again. Is there an easier way to do this? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I went in to font book and checked for any corrupted fonts. Font book found a few fonts that threw out a 'caution'. I then deleted them.
I installed the most recent release of Final Cut, restarted, then created a new title graphic and have found the issue still exists.
Any other possible fixes?

Palette highlight and Cursor do not align, making palette select difficult

Don't expect I'm the first to report this but I didn't find anything about it from a forum search so better to report it then ignore it.
Under the Eclipse IDE when trying to select one of the actions listed lower on the palette the cursor does not match the highlight. The lower you go in the list the farther off the alignment gets until, in order to select Sequence, the last item in the list, you have to have the cursor very far down past the sequence icon in order for it to be actually highlighted and selectable. Only then can it be selected and dragged to the designer view. The topmost icons align the cursor to the highlight well but the further you go down the list the farther off the alignment gets.
Designer is 0.9.13, Eclipse is at Version: 3.1.0 Build id: I20050627-1435

Apparently the distribute spacing command only uses the top object as a reference. I would say that's a bug.

New FileChooser doesn't allow choosing a directory?

Am I just missing something obvious? The new javafx.stage.FileChooser class (beta build 36) doesn't seem to allow the user to choose a directory. I.e., I can select a directory in the dialog and click the 'open' button, but it just takes me into that directory within the dialog.
I'm using Windows 7, Java 7 and beta build 36.

I suggest you file an RFE on the Jira about expanding the FileChooser API to allow directory selection. But I found that windows user always end beign very confused when presented with a file chooser dialog to select... a directory... It's better to have a tree or list base directory chooser instead.
The fact that we do not have a directory chooser at hand is a longstanding Swing issue (made an RFE in the early 2000s about that - was replied "use JFileChooser instead", :/). One was supposed to be integrated in SwingX and with future consideration for Swing integration (Romain Guy, Swing Team, circa 2004~2005), it seems it never happened.
In JavaFX 1.3 for some time I've used a third party Swing control that used to do that and after a while I've built a prototype one using ListView and TreeView (but as you know unfortunatly TreeView was not working great in those days) + there's always the matter of the weird tree structure you end up with on Windows (with desktop as the root of everything which makes properly expanding the tree to show initial selection difficult - especially since the base nodes bear i18n names). Anyway, as of 2011, we're still missing a proper directory view.
When/if time allows at my job (and it looks unlikely these days), I'll file a couple of RFE about providing FileView and DirectoryView (with Tile, List, Table and Tree display) and reworking their FileChooser.ExtensionFilter API (already mentionned in another message) so we can at least finally have a proper control to browse through a file system, build file dialog or even a file browser...

Problem with Marquee Tool

I'm having a problem in Photoshop 7.0 where I can't see the borders of the selected area while dragging the cursor. Once I release the mouse button I can see the borders OK, but not while dragging. This makes precision selections difficult. It seem to happen with any tool used to select an area i.e. marquee, lasso, pen, etc. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

The first thing to try is resetting the tool.
If that doesn't help try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

I cannot find the FM radio app

I have looked all over and I know the HTC One (M8) is supposed to have the built in FM Radio, but I cannot locate it on my phone. Please help or advise.

For my use Pandora, or any other streaming app or MP3 collection, is not better than an actual FM radio.
Not sure why other carriers retain FM radio functionality, but Verizon does not. It makes device selection difficult, since two of my previous phones on Verizon did have a working FM radio.

Gradient mesh

Im trying to learn the gradient mesh. Im having difficulty distinguishing mesh points from anchor points. From what Ive read they are supposed to be diamonds and squares. They all just look like tiny white dots to me. Is there a way to make them bigger? How can I tell the difference between them.

And regardless, this is an open user forum. Opinion is not disallowed. You don't "own" a thread just because you started it. You don't dictate who can reply or how. And there's nothing wrong with opinion unless it's wrong opinion--which, of course, mine isn't. ;-)
My other comment does indeed "help" in that it corrects a common misconception: It is not the size of the anchorPoint display that makes selection difficult; it is the pick-distance sensitivity, which is far more adjustable than the mere size of the display.
Users accustomed to CorelDRAW, for example, are particularly prone to this misunderstanding because they are accustomed to DRAW's historic comparitively very large display of nodes. They would complain that Illustrator's display was too small, and that that made anchor selection difficult. FreeHand users knew better, because long before Illustrator finally gained the preference setting, FreeHand displayed anchors much as Illustrator did, but provided a pick-distance setting properly independent of mere display size.

You can use the Alt/Option key to toggle between add + and subtract -

First though select the Add to Selection in the tool options bar for that to work.

When I select a menu item, the highlight is light blue and the item font color goes white. It is very difficult to read? Any solution?

Are you using a standard Windows theme?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

For reasons that you would have to ask Apple for they decided not to allow the precise position of the playhead to be shown in iMovie 10 (unlike in FCP 10.1.x).

Cursor flickers so badly that it is very difficult to select ANYTHING

On every web page, the cursor flickers on and off so badly that it is difficult and sometimes impossible to select anything - button, checkbox, whatever.
And, with reference to the pasted information below, I did not change or update any preferences. I simply had 2 add-ons disabled at installation of the new version of the browser.

I am experiencing difficulties opening some web-based PDF files on my iPad. I was having the same difficulty opening the same PDFs on my iMac (after I upgrade to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in settings.

I am experiencing difficulty opening some web-based PDF documents on my iPad. I had exactly the same difficulty on my iMac (after I upgraded to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in security settings in Safari (in OSX).
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to similarity adjust the security settings in Safari in iOS 8.
The message I get when I attempt to open the PDF (on my iPad) is as follows:
            "To view the full contents of this document you need a later version of PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from ..."
Needless to say this is unhelpful for two reasons:
- I have the very latest version of Adobe Reader; and
- in iOS Adobe Reader is not a plug-in and plays absolutely no role in opening web-based PDF documents.
If anyone has experienced this difficulty and has been able to overcome it I would be most appreciative to hear of you solution.

If you increased the minimum font size then try a lower setting (default is none) as a too high value can cause issues like you described.
