Selection-screen validation on file names.

Hi All,
In my selection-screen I have provision to pick 4 files from Presentation server.
Now I want to validate that 4 file's path and names.
Suppose by mistake user entered 1 in another so that my program must handle this for not going further and have to through error message.
Any suggestions please... or is there any FM to validate the file name.

You can declare the file as <b>RLGRAP-FILE</b>NAME or like below
Paramters
PARAMETERS: p_file LIKE <b>ibipparms-path</b>. " Filename
At selection-screen on Value Request for file Name
AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR p_file.
Get the F4 Values for the File
CALL FUNCTION 'F4_FILENAME'
    EXPORTING
      program_name = syst-cprog
      dynpro_number = syst-dynnr
    IMPORTING
      file_name     = p_file.
when you decalre like above it will take care of that format

Symptoms
While upgrading or uninstalling a Windows software application (such as iTunes for Windows or QuickTime for Windows), you may receive one of the following error messages:
file name is not a valid short file name
The folder path 'folder name' contains an invalid character.
... where file name could be the name of any file, and folder name could be the name of any folder.
In the case of software that uses advertised shortcuts (such as recent versions of iTunes for Windows or Safari for Windows), the messages may also appear when attempting to launch software that has already been installed.
Resolution
The error messages are usually caused by damage to the installation database for the application. Clearing the installation database for the application by using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility can usually get you past the error message.
(1) Click [here|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301] first, and read the important information about the utility.
(2) Click the *Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now* link on that page to download a file titled msicuu2.exe.
(3) Open the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install it.
(4) In your Start menu click *All Programs* and then click *Windows Install Clean Up.* The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(5) Select the software you're getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message for from the list and click Remove.
(6) Click OK in the confirmation dialog that appears.
(7) If you have multiple entries for the software you're getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message for, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other entries for the software.
(8) Click Exit.
(9) Restart the computer.
If you were getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message when trying to upgrade or launch software, now try reinstalling the latest version of the software.
If you were getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message when just trying to uninstall software, program files for the software in question will remain on the PC after it has been removed by the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. If you want to remove leftover program files, check in at the appropriate forum at [Apple Discussions|http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa?categoryID=1] and ask which files can be safely removed.

Go to Microsoft website to fix installer file problems.
Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

ITunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name - help!

Just purchased a new PC - running Vista, itunes loaded 4 days ago and worked but since yesterday wont run, and I cant uninstall it - always comes up with 'iTunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name' cant get into itunes at all to do anything...any suggestions!

Okay. In that case, let's try using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the installation configuration information.
download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those iTunes entries, and click “remove”.
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another install.
If it doesn't go through, let us know what error message you get this time. (Fot example, is it now saying *Invalid drive* J?)

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. How can I open a pdf document after downloading is complete and there is no screen reference to file name?

I'm having a problem trying to locate a downloaded PDF file. I'm using Windows 7, and have Adobe Reader XI installed. From a given site some downloads will appear with a listing of individual pages within the document, or there will be a window appearing that has a series of icons to print or scroll, etc. At other times, from the same source & type of document, I will get a representatrion of doanload progress, then a "DONE" when completed. There is no notification anywhere on my screen as to file name or where to look for this download. I even go into "Documents", downloads, recent places, etc. to try and find a listing, to no avail. I also open Adobe Reader to see if there is any clue, again, to no avail. Incidentally, when Adobe Reader opens, there isn't any provision for scrolling, yet there appears to be additional information below the bottom edge of my screen. I sure would appreciate some help on this problem.

On my Windows 7, with any browser, all downloaded files go into the Downloads folder.
If you can't find your downloaded PDF docs, try a search for *.pdf

Problem in AT selection screen validation

I am having problem in AT SELECTION SCREEN Validation.
I have 2 radiobutton and 6 parameter. if i click first radio button all the 6 radiobutton should enable and take the user input, that is working fine for me.
if i click second radiobutton , out of 6 , 3 parameter should disable and remaining 3 should enable. thats also working fine.
My problem is program has written the validation for this 3 parameter in the AT SELECTION SCREEN.
For first radioutton all the validation working fine, for second validation as soon as i press the radiobutton it will display error message. Based on 2 parameter user is filling value for 3 rd parameter.
I want the same validation to be done for second radio button after user pressing enter.

Selection-screen validation

Hi Experts,
Please can any one give me the details ..
1)What is the actual use of selection screen validation?
2) When we use Selection-screen validation?
3)If we are not written the selection-screen validation is there any effect?
I know how to write the validation for a selection screen. But why i am asking above questions is I am very new to ABAP .My Functionl people also new to ABAP. They told me one report.I asked me what are the validation for selection screen . At that time they told there is no validation.
Thats the reason to ask above questions..

Abhi,
Selection Screen Validation are used for correct input processing.
Selection screen elements are used further in select queries to fetch data. if user enters some wrong input
we will unnecessarily hit the data base with wrong values and select will fail , hence validation of the input
will avoid unnecessary data base hit.

'iTunesMiniplayer.Resources' is not a valid short file name

up until about a month ago i'd used my ipod as a hard drive so i could have iTunes wherever i went. i installed it using my brother's PoS computer (i dunno the specs but it's running windows XP)and it was assigned to drive (F:)
as soon as i got my netbook i saw no need to keep the program installed on the ipod so i deleted it. now he has an ipod and wants to eliminate cds from his life, but there's one problem: the computer still says itunes is installed at (F:) and will not uninstall or repair. about 4 minutes into the 'installation', an error window pops up saying "'iTunesMiniplayer.Resources' is not a valid short file name."
six attempts later the installer pops up and asks where to install. as i go to change the location from (E:) another error window tells me that "'(E:)' is not a valid destination. Please choose a new destination." Clicking ok causes the installer to finish and it too warns me of a 'fatal error during installation' and to try again later. i've been stuck at this point for half an hour.
how do i avoid buying an external disk drive for my netbook to upload his music onto his ipod?

See if the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will get rid of itunes.
Then try the install again.

But this does not stop the execution of the report, the error message which i have given is been displayed in the report top and still the report gets executed.
Please suggest how to stop the report execution and to stay on the same selelction screen page.

Adobe Reader XI Install Error 1325 AI_RecycleBin is not a valid short file name

Adobe 10 worked fine on my computer, when I did the update for Adobe XI I got this error. I tried a couple of times to redownload and install with no success. Adobe Reader 10 wouldn't work either. I did a restore on my computer back before the Reader update and that did not get Adober Reader back to working.
I have been through the Adobe Help & Support, and Community. I have used the uninstaller programs and checked anything and everything I found in those two places. I even tried to install Reader 9 to no avail.
I am ready for some help and ideas?

Unable to install Safari 5: "not a valid short file name" error

Hi all,
Previous thread has been archived, but I thought I'd post an update on this issue, since we finally solved it!
To recap, I was getting an error on trying to install Safari which said "<username> is not a valid short file name", and the installation would fail. If installing under an admin username with a shorter name, the installation would succeed, but the same error message would occur for the original user when trying to launch Safari, during the initial configuration process. The problem also plagued some other installation processes, including (for example) Adobe Acrobat updates.
The problem turned out to be related to our redirection of user's profiles (My Documents, Application Settings etc.) to a fileserver. These are pointed to a file share named users on each office's primary file server, and this works fine for most purposes. However, we did not allow users read access to the "users" folder on the server in which their individual user directories were located (this was so users could not browse a list of employee names in this folder). This turned out to be causing the problem; by allowing read access to the folder, all the issues where cleared up.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else who may have experienced the same problem!

"1325 Error: iTunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name"

I recently got a new hard drive, and I tried to drag all of my iTunes information to it, and it did. But when I opened iTunes, it said that it was not installed properly and that if I wanted to get cd track names I would have to install it again. So I deleted it, and now when I try to reinstall iTunes, I get the following error:
"1325 Error: iTunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name" I don't remember if it was iTunesHelper or iTunesMiniplayer, but it was one of the two. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this. I have tried doing a system restore, getting rid of the registry information for the entire apple corp. folder, and searching for anything iTunes and deleting it. HOW DO I FIX THIS!? I need iTunes to put music on my ipod (which also got deleted during this).
PLEASE HELP!!

Ok first of all never try just copying a program folder again. You always need to do an fresh install.
Try uninstalling iTunes, then going into C:\Documents and Settings\<<Your user Name>>\Application Data\and rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "_Apple Computer"
Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ and rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "_Apple Computer"
Then go to My Documents > My Music and move the files iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml any where else. Do not delete them.
Then go to C:\Program Files and delete the iTunes folder if it is still there.
Then reboot.
Then try re installing.
After you have that copy your music files to the new PC and use the File > Add Folder option to add them to iTunes. Use the other import features under File to import the other music data

Error 1325 (not valid short file name) during JRE setup

Attempting to setup tle latest version of JRE on Windows XP Pro (either with online or offline setup), after configuration check, an error message box appears, saying
"Documenti is not a valid short file name"
The related error code is 1325.
What may be the cause of this issue?
