I'm using illustrator cc on a MacBook air. When I try to use the selection tool, It turns into a pencil and becomes useless.

I click on the selection tool.
I click or drag on the art board.
The selection tool turns into a pencil.

How do I get my Pages '09 (that I paid for in App store) into my new Macbook Air (as it's no longer available)?

I canot use the "new" Pages 5 for the raft of reasons poiinted out in these forums. I need a robust, full-powered word processor on my robust, full powered MAC.
I bought Pages '09 from the APP Store long ago for my old Macbook Air.
I upgraded to Mavricks on my old Macbook Air and see I still have the "old" Pages '09 app in my Applications directory.
Now I have a new Macbook Air I just bought on its way to me now.
Can I just copy the app from the file right over--or will it fial to run as it was not "installed" properly?
HOW DO I GET PAGES '09 onto my NEW Mac?

If that doesn't work you can use Migration Assistant - of course that will move all the application to the new computer.

My MacBook pro motherboard needs replacing (expensive!!), would I be able to remove the hard drive and have it put into my partners MacBook air?

He said if I wanted to purchase a new mac, they could transfer my hard drive to the new mac. Not the Hard Drive itself! In the MacBook (Pro) you have 2.5" hard drives, and in the MacBook Air there are 1.8" (the older once) or special form factors SSDs (MacBook Air 2011). So the hard drive quite bigger in your MBP.
But the data could be transferred to the MacBook Air with an external enclosure, if the hard drive in the MacBook Air is big enough.

Nothing you can do. This is the anti-theft protection on the iPhone. You cannot restore that phone if you don't know the AppleID and password used to set it up. No way arounds this.

Applecare Repair Turns Into a Broken Macbook Case

I'm from Texas, but this past Wednesday I made the trip up to New York City to check the sites. When I managed to get to the hotel, I got on my Macbook and checked out how to get to the nice ol' 5th Avenue store. All was well, we checked out the place, etc. I get back to the hotel and, to my amazement, my hard drive had completely died on me. The click was loud enough to hear across the room while the TV was blaring.
Luckily, I have an Applecare warranty, so I decided to bring it down to the store. Needless to say, they repaired everything. The new hard drive was installed and they replaced the chipped palm rests, but I now noticed that they apparently banged the bottom of the case on something. There is now a crack on the bottom of the case.
It is strictly cosmetic, it doesn't alter functionality at all. To be quite honest, I'm not all that worried about it. Though, what I am concerned about is the fact that the crack could continue to spread or, in the long wrong, cause another problem. I would just bring it back up to the store, but I leave tomorrow morning at 8AM to make my voyage back to Texas. To make matters worse, the nearest Apple store to my home is about 120 miles away.
Is there a way that I can contact Applecare and just make a note of the occurrence that way, if it does happen, they won't try and say it's my wrong doing. It doesn't seem like it was dropped, but it seems like it got a nice little whack against a table or something. The bottom of the case is also scratched beyond belief. I always set my Macbook on it's cloth case, so they weren't there before hand.
I'm simply happy it's functional, but it is more than frustrating that it comes back with additional problems.
Any input will be highly appreciated!

When you call AppleCare, have your paperwork from the 5th Ave store and give them the case number. Also, request a case number for your reporting this incident.

How can I plug into ethernet with MacBook Air?

I can't keep a wireless internet connection long enough for a 778 mb iPod update update.

I was traveling and there was no wifi in my hotel room. So, I looked up the address of my nearest Apple Retail store (on my iPhone of course) and drove over and bought the USB Ethernet Adapter captfred just mentioned and, like most things Apple, it worked right out of the package. First time.
I've needed to use it more than once, and it was worth every penny.

Tools keep turning into the Hand Move tool

all of a sudden I am having a problem with my tools turning into the hand move tool, no matter which tool I use.
I moved the Wacom pen 5 feet away (this moving away seemed to fix it before but not now).
Any suggestions?

Advice on how to format an external hard drive for a MacBook Air

I have an external USB hard drive plugged into a 64GB MacBook Air. How should I format the hard drive so that when I run out of room on the small 64 GB SSD drive on the MacBook Air, it will start putting some iTunes or other files onto the external hard drive? I only put iTunes and other small music files on the MacBook Air in order to save room. I do have iTunes set for iCloud.

You cannot format a drive so that files will be automatically put on that drive when you run out of room on another drive. Transferring the files must be done specifically by you. You will need to learn how to manage free space on the SSD because 64 GBs is a bit small for much more than OS X.
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

NetInstall MacBook Air 2012

I'm struggling to NetInstall a MacBook Air 2012 and amd looking to the Apple family for help
This is the scenario:
Lion Server running 10.7.4
Download Install Mac OS X Lion.app from App Store (Build 11E53)
Use SIU to create a NetInstall Image
On MacBook Air (Build 11E2702) reboot and hold down "alt" I can see all enabled hosted images
Select the newly created NetInstall Image
MacBook Air fails to boot displaying no entry sign
Now this is where I get confused as everything I've read says that all I need to do is download the lastest version of the Lion Install app and use that create a new image
So what am I doing wrong?

Wireless deployment is not supported with the NetBoot Service. This has always been the case with Apple's own tools. Read the extremely small and informative section entitled "NetBoot and Airport" here:

To give you an idea of performance - I've deployed a 17GB Image to 6 MacBook Airs simultaneously in around 2 hours. The MBAs were placed as close as possible to the nearest 5Ghz enabled WAP for maxmimum bandwidth availability and when nothing else was on the wireless network.
As ever and depending on the quality of the network and the size of image, YMMV.

My son is a fan of Minecraft. For his joint birthday, Christmas and starting new school present we are thinking of buying him a MacBook Air 11 inch. For Minecraft and homework word-processing is 128GB enough, or do we need to invest in 256GB? Thanks for any help, Billy (Harry's dad)

It's absolutely enough!
I use my Macbook Air (13") for the same tasks & many more!
Although, one problem with Macbook Air and Minecraft would be the RAM and heat issues, so if possible, I would suggest looking into the Macbook Pro, since it doesn't overheat as much.
That said, if you have a fan turned on near the Macbook Air, you should be fine, since you'd have the computer's internal fan + your fan, all cooling the system down.
