Selective Calendar Sync

I've got 3 Macs (1 at work). 2 iPhones (1 is my wife's), and 1 MobileMe account. I'm successfully synching like crazy and am very happy. My wife is not, however. We don't have Exchange support for iPhone at work, but I am syncing my Exchange calendar using Entourage, synching that with iCal and synching that with everything else - including my wife's iPhone. She is getting upset at getting notifications for my business meetings and events. She wants me to make it stop. How can I selectively NOT sync the Entourage calendar on my wife's iPhone, yet continue to do so on my iPhone?
Brian

I was a bit confused when you wrote "as advertised", because now Apple advertises using direct Exchange sync (bypassing the Outlook client). From your 2nd paragraph, though, I see that you had been doing just what I described.
Did you ever run into trouble with meeting appointments? That is, if you edited one on the iPhone, did the attendee list or other critical attributes (exceptions in a recurring meeting) get damaged? Did you get many spurious duplicates?
The interesting part now is that in iTunes 7.7 PC, when my iPhone is attached, there's an option in the iPhone preferences to sync the Outlook calendar to a specific iPhone calendar.
This suggests the possibility of retaining the home data even as a sync at work.
Do you think that's a new feature in iTunes 7.7?
Thanks!
Update: after my original posting I came across this Discussion Thread:

At this time selective sync with an Outlook 2003 calendar may be broken.

  • Want to sync only selected calendars to MobileMe - Is there a workaround?

    Hi everyone,
    does anyone know of a workaround to sync only some of my iCal calenders to MobileMe? I know that Apple does not support syncing only selected calendars to MobileMe. But surely someone must have found a way to accomplish this?
    At work, I rely heavily on iCal. I use it for all kinds of stuff, from GTD to logging the billable hours spent on my clients' projects. However, I do not want to have all this stuff cluttering my iCal at home nor my iPhone. I only want to take my appointment calendar with me! (I know, with the iPhone this can be accomplished by syncing through iTunes instead of MobileMe - but then why do I pay for MobileMe in the first place?!?) I was hoping that this all-or-nothing sync would be a thing of the past with OSX 10.6, but nada...
    Any help, anyone?
    Best regards

    HTML5 output needs IE11. But since you are publishing it as SWF as well, this output should work on older versions of IE.
    So, I guess the issue is something else. You can try uploading your course to SCORM Cloud and test it there. If it works, then the issue is on the LMS front.

  • Outlook sync works, but can't select calendar

    Hi all.
    I have Outlook 2003 at work and the calendar sync works, but I cannot select individual calendars, I can only sync 'All Calendars' other options are greyed out.
    I do have two separate calendars set up in Outlook.. anyone have any idea how to get around this?
    Thanks.

    I upgraded yesterday and still no workie. I'm on the phone with iPhone support at the moment. I'll let you know if we come up with anything.

  • Syncing selected calendars with MobileMe

    I use several calendars in iCal on my MacBook to schedule different events and locations at work. I want to sync only a few of these calendars to my iPhone. I can do this when sycning with iTunes, but with MobileMe it seems that I must sync all or none. Is there a way to sync selected calendars using MobileMe?

    Hello;
    I sync a Macbook and 2 iPhones via MobileMe. However the 2 iPhones receive the same alerts (reminders) for the events or appointments.
    Is it possible to sync only certain appointments to one iPhone and others to the second iPhone? It just doesnt make sense to receive the same alerts in the two iPhones since they are in different Calendars in the iCal?
    Thanks!

  • I am unable to choose "selected calendars" to sync

    I don't have a current version of Outlook to sync the calendar with, but I was going to try the new Google calendar that supposedly uses the correct file that would work with ipod. However, on iTunes the only thing I can choose is "sync calendars from Microsoft Outlook". I wanted to try "selected calendars" and try the Google calendar. When I do choose , calendars from Microsoft I get the error message "iTunes cannot sync calendars to the ipod" . What do I need to do here? I have calendars enabled on the ipod and have enabled disc use as well. Please send HELP!

    Sarmento,
    You may take charge of the error bar values. Add a column to your table for the error amounts and use it to drive the Custom Error Bar value fields.

  • HT1386 Cannot select calendars or address books to sync.

    Select calendars and select address book are greyed out. Cannot select them in new ITunes on Yosemite.

    Hi - I sync my home iMac and my work PC w/ XP to the iPhone daily.
    First, make sure before you sync that the tab next to info (I can't look right now) has the calendar and contacts that you want to sync checked. It always works for me. When given the choice, you wants to select merge the data.
    For calendar items:
    . On the PC under Outlook -- you Mac calendar items will be merged into your Outlook calendar.
    . On the Mac - your Outlook calendar items will be maintained separately.
    For Contacts:
    . On the PC - your Mac contacts will be merged into your Outlook contacts.
    . On the Mac - your Outlook contacts will be part of your overall AB contacts. You can still, however, maintain separate groups.
    Hope that helps.

  • Sync selected calendar

    In in ical in both iphone and macbook, I have two calendars: one named home, and one with my name.
    In itunes, I set the calendar sync option to "Sync **selected* calendars" and the only calendar that was selected with a radio button was "Home", but all of my other calendar was deleted from the iphone.
    If itunes is set to sync selected calendars, why would it operate at all on a calendar that is not selected?
    Thanks much

    Hi Support,
    Having very simular issue as well.
    PC: Outlook 2010
    Phone: E7
    2 calendars created in Outlook, but only 1 is getting synchronized. The second calendar is ignored.
    If I create 2 calendars in the device, still only 1 is getting synchronized.
    Is this a bug or I do something wrong?
    Thank you.

  • Sync Multiple Google Calendars Under BIS Calendar Sync?

    Hi There.
    Anyone know if it is possible to sync all the separate calendars one might have in their Google calendar via the latest BIS update. I've switched on calendar sync but so far I'm only pulling through one calendar from my account where as before (with google sync), I was able to select which calendars I wanted to sync.
    Anyone manged this?
    Cheers

  • View only selected calendars on the iPhone

    How are specific calendars turned off on the iPhone. It seems that the default is that all calendars are visible. On the Mac it is possible to turn on selected calendars for viewing. Is there a similar function on the iPhone? thanks.

    I am having the same problem but the replies don't answer the question. Let me try an explain in a different way.
    I have five calenders on my iPhone: Bills, Personal, Work, Dr., and Auto. If I select "All" in the Calendars screen in the Calendars app, the calendar shows all five of my calenders. Occasionally I only want to show four of the five calenders, for example I do not want to show the "Work" calendar, but I want to show the other five. I still want to sync all of the calendars all of the time, I just want to select which one of the five I show did show.

  • Itunes/Outlook Calendar Syncing Issue - UTF-8 Flavor

    I have had the usual and much discussed issue of outlook calendar does not sync with iTunes. The recommendations have been to remove iTunes and re-install, even blow away all the configuration files as well, and it even worked for me once. But not this time.
    I was running Windows XP, and all of a sudden the Outlook 2007 calendar just stopped syncing. I upgraded from XP to 8.1, and that was not fun, but inevitable, and still didn’t correct the problem. Now, if you never upgraded from XP to 8.1 – you can’t – at least it is not a direct flight. First, you have to upgrade from XP to 8.0, then from 8.0 to 8.1, and there is no upgrade in place from XP to 8.0. So what does an upgrade in place mean? Your applications and profiles are not carried over. Just your data (if you ask nicely) is carried over – but all applications have to be re-installed from scratch, and reactivated if there was license activation.
    So, forget about re-install of iTunes, I changed OS, reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007 from scratch. And still had the syncing problem. So, I wasn’t getting off easy.
    In searching, I found some debugging stuff which I tried, as follows to turn on logging:
    So, I ran the following:
    cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
    defaults write com.apple.Outlook.client.exe ShouldLog YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogEverything YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogPersonalInfo YES
    And this turned on a lot of tracing. The tracing helped me understand what was going on under the covers, But I am not sure I was getting enough of the information that I needed to really zero in on the bad record.
    Now, I will pause and provide some observation of my specific Sync.
    An iTunes Sync on a Windows machine when using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer is selected on the INFO tab of the page for the device.
    Selections include Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and Notes.
    One of the programs involved with Outlook Synchronization is: com.apple.Outlook.client.exe
    The program is called when Outlook data needs to be accessed, and is used for contacts, calendar and notes when those items are paired between the iDevice and Outlook. Bookmarks are usually paired with the browser, for example IE.
    During the sync operation, each of these are sync’d separately, that is why if you follow the sync actions, iTunes will reflecting what is being synced at the moment, for example “syncing contacts”.
    When syncing the calendar, and iTunes is running a slow sync, it reads the Outlook calendar using the com.apple.Outlook.client.exe and does processing of the recursion and time zone information.
    For example, for recurrence:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Setting recurrence data <04300430 0d200200 000000ae 06000c00 00000000 00000400 00002120 0000e703 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000a0e7 980cc016 d10c0630 00000830 00000000 0000a005 00000000 00000000 00000000>
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] 0 recurrence exceptions
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Reading the Extended Exception Info (i.e. Unicode data)
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Done making compatible recurrence
    For example, for timezone:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:43 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Could not create a time zone from outlook name, tried using name (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
    Then the calendar entries are pushed, for example:
    ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829304082700 =     {
            "all
    day" = 1;
            calendar
    =         (
                ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829382800000
    "com.apple.outlook.freebusy" = Free;
    "com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName" = "com.apple.calendars.Event";
            "end date" = "2020-05-11 12:00:00 +0000";
            location = "United States";
            "start date" = "2020-05-10 12:00:00 +0000";
            summary = "Mother's Day";
    So, my SYNC fails, and I crash and burn with:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:22 2014] [_ISDVLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] SyncServices assertion failure (nil != strUTF8) in [(null) (null)], SDLogging.m:641 could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:23 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] objcMain caught an exception:
    name
    NSInternalInconsistencyException
    reason     : [(null)
    (null)]: could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    user info  : (null)
    call stack : (
    Now I’m back. So, during the extract and push of the outlook calendar entries, iTunes is building formatted strings. Now, Unicode is usually 16 bit (2 characters) Unicode, sometimes called double byte code. UTF-8 is single byte, so realize you can’t squeeze 16 bits into a 8 bit byte. However, you could if the Unicode string only contained characters that were valid for the UTF-8 character set. My interpretation of the error message above was that somewhere a formatted character string contained a “non-UTF-8” character and raised the assertion. Now, my issue with the excessive detailing from the logs was that – at least with the logging parameters I had turned on – I couldn’t figure out which calendar entry caused the exception to be thrown.
    First instinct was  that the last calendar entry in the trace was the culprit, so I deleted that calendar entry, ran again, the sync went up to the previous entry, and threw the exception. This gives me two theories: Either the sync was processing the next entry – which wasn’t printed in the trace yet – and failed, or the sync was going back to previous records – like reviewing the buffer. In either case, the trace wasn’t helping and it was all theories.
    Now what? What has everyone been saying? Issues with recurrence. And in the trace, as you see above as an example, “0 recurrence exceptions”, “reading the extended exception info (i.e. Unicode data)”.
    Now, I have no clue what that means. My initial guess was that recurrence exceptions (I had non-zeros on some) was an error. But further research I realized what it could mean was that these were situations where there were recurrence exceptions. What is a recurrence exception? Suppose I want to schedule a meeting on the 4th day of the month, for every month of the year. Well, except maybe July 4th, because it is a holiday and the office is closed. I would send the meeting invite, and then a cancellation for the July 4th. (I hear there is no simple way to do this). I now have an exception because I broke the recurrence chain. Other forms of exceptions is if I keep changing the location, or the body of the invite – e.g. every month I update the agenda, but only for one recurrence, not the entire series.
    So, keep in mind,  that if the issue is conversion to a UTF-8 character, and it is failing, then uninstall/reinstall of anything is not going to help if the real issue at hand is the data in Outlook and is not a coding or configuration issue. Now, sometimes it is an issue, but you need to see why the syncserver tasks are failing, and may fail due to other reasons including other data issues.
    So, what did I do? Well IO have 15K calendar entries, which, was taking an hour or two to slow sync (I call it a slow dance) and I was,spending days (maybe a couple of weeks) trying to fix this – and frustration was on the high end.
    I removed some of my older recurrences, and changed others from never expire to like 25 maximum occurrences. No idea which one worked, or even if it was a coincidence. However, the UTF-8 error went away, and then I moved to the next issue.
    Now, before we get there, with outlook 2007 finding recurrences is not difficult. Go into the calendar, and select appointment or list view (Outlook 2013 list view works ok). You can then sort on the recurrence column and see which (if any) items gave a recurrence pattern. Now maybe someone can figure out specific BAD calendar items that are throwing the exception to give us a better idea of what to look for and then report it so we can do further research.
    Now, once we can get the issue out of the way, stop iTunes from throwing an exception, we are not 100% done yet. By this time what is in Outlook and on the iDevice is out of sync. We need to get that message to popup asking us if we want to merge the data between the iDevice and Outlook. This can be important if you don’t want to lose data. My issue is that with iTunes 11.2.2 for some reason won’t do it, i.e. when I select “reset sync history” it doesn’t work. At that point I was forced to rename my iTunesprefs, the syncserver folder, and a few other folders. In this case, for Windows 7 and later, the folders in “Apple Computer” of both the local and roaming paths, and I had to cancel running tasks that had those folders open. One way or another, you want the iTunes message asking if you want to merge the folders.
    What can you do to help?
    Report success or failures using the information above
    Report if you are getting the same UTF-8 message, or if you are seeing other exceptions
    Report specific cases of calendar entries that you find that you have isolated to be throwing an exception
    Report any other logging/tracing parameters that you may find. It looks like you can turn on “ShouldLog” using the defaults.exe command for other tasks that iTunes runs.
    This syncing issue has been going on for years, under different iTunes versions, there has to be something going on and an easier way to troubleshoot this problem. I wish I had the time, but right now I fixed the problem I had and was able to resync my Outlook with my two iPads and iPhone.
    The only issue I have left at the moment is the message “the ipad xxx cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54). – despite this error message, I am syncing, but the message is distracting and annoying.

    Yes - both have time zone support and are set to London/GMT
    The most recent of these aberrations was not even crossing a DST change - just a simple recurring event (which I've manually changed to single events by copy/paste).
    I just tried a new one which goes back 1 hr 27 Oct - when UK clocks go back. As it's a dummy apt I'll leave it and see if if goes back to the correct time on 27 Oct! In the meantime, I can't afford for my appts to get screwed up so will continue to do them manually!
    Thanks for your input.

  • Why doesn't my iPhone calendar sync with my Mac-neither ICloud or USB connections work.

    My iPhone calendar will not sync with my MacPro either by iCloud or USB connection.

    Let's compare the settings on the Mac, I'm also using iCal on my MacBook Pro OSX10.9.5.
    iCal/Settings/Accounts -> iCloud CalDAV selected and activated, set to "push"
    On the phone:
    Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars: Syncing all events in calendar.
    And in calendar app "iCloud"->"All calendars" selected.
    I have no calendars selected in "On my iPhone"
    Are you also syncing contacts via iCloud? If yes, does it work between the Mac and iPhone?

  • Google Calendar Sync

    I saw that another user previously reported an issue with Google Calendar Sync and that you then closed the thread stating that the issue was "solved" by knowledge base article 19691.  That article states that the TouchPad only syncs Google Calendar entries 1 month back and 2 months forward.  I believe this Knowledgebase article is incorrect and that you do have a bug that needs to be resolved.
    In my Google Calendar, I have entered a number of eents related to a vacation planned for late December/Early January.  On the TouchPad, I found that all the events that I had entered into the calendar prior to the initial set-up are missing.  Several events (in January) that I added to the calendar (not using the TouchPad) since the initial set-up of the TouchPad were all present.  In addition, all of the events are present on my Palm Pre running WebOS 1.4.5.
    I then tried removing the calendar and re-adding it on the TouchPad.  The result of this was that the January events that were previously present disappeared.  It now is clear to me that the Google Sync on the TouchPad works as follows:
    1. During the initial sync (when the Google account is first added), events are only added to the calendar using the 1 month back/2 months ahead rule as stated in the KB article.
    2. Any events added to the calendar (either on the TouchPad or elsewhere) after the initial sync are synchronized to the TouchPad regardless of how far in the future they occur.
    Obviously, the Google API does allow syncing of all entries in the calendar, not just a 3-month period.  WebOS clearly should synchronize all future events (as it did on the older, pre-HP versions) as doing anything else is a serious limitation on the usability of the calendar.
    -Jeff
    Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

    I have also added items to my Google Calender in Feb 2012. I then went to the calender app on the Touchpad. From the menu in the Calender app selected Sync Now. The item appeared on the Touchpad.

  • IPhone-Outlook 2007 Calendar Sync (What worked for me)

    Hi;
    Today after 3 weeks of day after day trial my iPhone-Outlook 2007 Calenar synch problems seems to be fully fixed. Once again this is what worked for me - I am sharing it and hope that can help you as well:
    Overview
    ========================
    I now fully believe that the root cause of the issue starts from a corrupted appoinment entry in your local calendar file. This appointment entry in turn breaks your outlook sync file known as the .OST file. I will tell you how to fix this later. This file is what iTune uses to synch the iPHONE calendar with your Outlook 2007 (same should work for outlook 2003).
    In short when the outlooksync.DLL file called by iTUNE, request to sync with outlook - it is the outlook that cannot resolve a corrupt .OST file and all goes to **** after that.
    I say this as "This is up to you find this bad calendar entry, get rid of it, get rid of the .OST file, and finally tell Outlook to do a repair job on your outlook installation. I will tell you all how to do this as well.
    Steps to fix this issue:
    ===========================================
    1- Go to your outlook calendar and delete any old appointment that still is in there. I got rid of anything older that 2 weeks. To do this just go to your calendar in outlook ... swith to a List view ... sort based on date and highlight anything older than that date and delete. This took me about 30-45 miutes of work... so be paitent with this step. Also, get rid of any holiday notification BS that Outlook puts in your calendar ... you can do this later.
    2- Go to outlook-tools-trust center-click on Add-In and then at the bottom of the screen click on Go and validate that your two outlook sync dlls are marked and enabled.
    3- Shut down outook and go to the following directory.
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\
    Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
    and rename your .OST file ... (there should be only one out there).
    3- Go to your control panel and do start/stop applications. Select Outlook and click on change ... outlook will come up with a few options. Select "Repair" this should force outlook to replace the .OST file which you just renamed.
    4- Now starts your outlook and let it do its initial sync. Make sure iTune is off at this point. After the Outlooks initialization is done ... now comes the moment of truth...
    5- Start iTune (I recommend that you select manual sync) and sycn with your calendar.
    At this point I learned that all my calendar items have come in ....
    Good luck and let me know if this works with you. Please Please remember the first step ... getting rid of your old appointments is the most important step ... don't rush it ... get rid of anything that you don't need.
    Cheers;
    Darab.

    You can try resetting sync history by clicking on edit at the top of itunes and choosing preferences. Then click on the iphone icon at the right top of the window that opens. There is a button at the bottom of the window to reset sync history.
    Also, you can try creating a new login on the computer.
    Open outlook and put in a few trial events.
    Then sync the iphone to this outlook calendar replacing all calendar data on the iphone.
    This is to see if you end up with dots on every day.
    If you do not end up with dots on every day, then you might want to take a look at any reoccurring events in the other outlook calendar.
    Hope this helps.

  • Calendar Sync/Outlook 2007 Issues

    Help!  I have a 8330 through Verizon and have major calendar sync issues that only seem to be getting worse. I'm using Outlook 2007 running Vista-Business. My Blackberry had been syncing fine for the first few months, but a week ago the calendar sync stopped working/crashing during the sync process (canceling the task). Address book, memo pad, and tasks still sync OK. Now the system does not even indicate the Calendar is trying to sync., it just bypasses that part of the sync process entirely even though I definitely have Calendar checked off in DTM. I have two email accounts associated with the Blackberry, hotmail, and my business email (through Gmail). I would like to be able to use two calendars but simply read them as one on Outlook and the Blackberry.  I want to ensure all mtg requests sent to either email address post to one calendar. Prevous to my sync issue, I have had issues where I accept an appt on my blackberry, but the message gets deleted from my Outlook, then unfortunately I can not sync it to my Outlook. I've tried many of the suggestions posted on previous threads with no luck, and would appreciated help from anyone who can walk me through this.
    One last issue I seem to have now is that when I send an email through Outlook it automatically posts the sent mesage on my Blackberry, even though I have Hide Sent messages selected in Email Options. Very Confused?????
    thanks

    Same problem here.  The blackberry calendar has two sets of calendars.  I can set the BB to show both, but only one syncs with Outlook.
    Two questions:
    1) How do I sync both calendars with Outlook for a combined view on Outlook?
    2) Or, how do I convert calandar items on the BB from one email account to another?
    Any help appreciated
    Ross
