Selective color partial de-saturation (both specific area AND specific color)

Hi All,
I searched a little both here and Google and am now convinced this is not possible in LR. Please let me know your thoughts.
I want to select a specific area, say bottom half of the image, and then desaturate blue by 50% and aqua by 25%, without affecting any other colors at all.
Is this possible in LR? Takes 5 seconds in Photoshop, but I don't want to have to export and edit there. I experimented with the color picker under adjustment brush in LR, in hope de-saturation would only apply to the color I selected, but it doesn't seem to work like that.
There's the "HSL / Color / B&W" section, which is very useful, but it applies to the entire image. Basically I'm after HSL/Color type adjustment for a brush if such a thing exists.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg.

Oggodei81,
regarding color change with the adj brush:
If I wish to change the color of, for example, hair, I first select that hair with the adjustment brush with all settings at default. then I fully desat the selected hair. I then END that adjustment and begin a NEW adjustment and, using color picker, paint on the unsaturated hair.
There is always the problem with getting the desat step and the color change step precisely alligned, but..........
Not always great but often works.

In Cisco Prime, can I run a Unique Clients and Users Summary report customized by both floor area and SSID?

Allright guys. I appreciate the quick responses. I've worked a lot in CR however i am not understanding the solution so I'd appreciate if you can dumb it down for me. If i understand it correctly you guys are suggesting to make a formula, that either return my group by string (which is a formula in my report) or the Quantity. I tried writing a formula like this
    if ({@param} = 1 then
    GroupName ({@GroupBy})
    else
    {NetPNL.GrossAfterAdj}
but it seems like CR does not allow you to return 2 different data types. Even if it had worked i would not know what to do from there. Can anyone please dumb it down for me. To make my situation more clear below is an example of how my data is..
    MN 100
    MN 200
    MN 50
    CA 300
    CA 500
when the data shows in the report, its grouped by state, so it comes out like
    MN 350
    CA 800
I want the users to decide whether they want it sorted by state  (ascending)
    CA 800
    MN 350
    or Total quantity (asc)
    MN 350
    CA 800

    Hi
A good way to make this Check compulsory in case Document Splitting is active in your system.
    Follow the path
IMG>Financial Accounting (New)>General Ledger Accounting (New)>Business Transactions>Document Splitting>Define Document Splitting Chracteristics for General Ledger Accounting.
Here you can make splitting active for Both business Area and profit center.
If any where in the posting system does not find either of Business Area or Profit Center, it would give an error

  • Using Business Area and Profit Center Accounting with New GL functionality

    Hello,
We are Public Sector and using ECC 6.0, we have been using Business Area with Fund Management. We also use Special Purpose Ledger with Document splitting. Before migrating to New GL functionality, we want to understand
    -     The possibility of using both Business Area and Profit Center Accounting, and the impact on the system
    -     If we activate Profit Center Accounting before migration, how will it work with the splitting process?
    -     If we migrate without Profit Center Accounting, will this cause the activation of Profit center accounting later to be more complicated, even if we migrate again?
    Thanking you

    Hi Sachin,
Thank you for the reply, we want to know that
    -     The possibility of using both Business Area and Profit Center Accounting, and the impact on the system
If we decide using Profit Center Accounting with Business Area with New GL functionality how we should do it
    -     should we activate classical Profit Center Accounting before migrating to New GL functionality, if we do this how will it work with the splitting process?
    -     If we migrate to New GL functionality without Profit Center Accounting, will this cause the activation of Profit center accounting later to be more complicated, even if we migrate again?

  • Business area and profit center

plz can anyone explain me what is the diffrence between business area and profit center.

Business Area is a type of organizational unit structure, primarily used to facilitate external segment reporting across company codes, covering the company's main areas of operation. Business Areas run across company codes. The relationship is n:n. Business Area is part of FI.
Profit Center is also a type of organization unit structure, used for management/ internal controlling purposes. Dividing the company up into profit centers allows one to analyze areas of responsibility and to delegate responsibility to decentralized units, thus treating them as “companies within the company”. The profit centers also run across company codes. The relationship is n:n. Profit Center Accounting is part of Enterprise Controlling.
While it may look apprantly that both Business Area and Profit Center do the same kind of analysis and reporting, with in SAP internal architecture they are kept in different modules and different tables.
SAP Note 321190 provides the difference betwen Business Area and Profit Center, which you can get from SAP Service Market place.
SAP has maintained Business Area from 4.6B onwards, while there are enhancements happening in Profit Center side.

  • What are the drawbacks of Selective color vs. curves?

What are the drawbacks of Selective color vs. curves?

There are no drawbacks to selective color that I can think of. The alternative is indiscriminate, wanton color which, as we all know, can get unruly and aggressive.
Similarly there are only advantages to curves, especially on the right body. The era of stick figure beauty is thankfully long past. Our culture now appreciates the organic esthetic of curves.
Beyond this, you may wish to consult the Photoshop forum. I suspect you'll get a very different answer there.

  • Action written in CS4 won't run correctly in Elements 11 - specif. the "selective color" layer

I created an action using Adobe Photoshop CS4, and it runs correctly in CS4.  When I save and load the action into Elements 11,  there is a problem with the selective color layer.  The selective color layer shows up in the layer stack along with the expected message that it can't be edited b/c it was created in the full version of Photoshop. However, the layer itself does not have any color/changes in it.
In Photoshop, the selective color layer makes the photo look pink.  When I run the action in Elements11,the selective color layer does absolutely nothing to the photo.  I do have the eye turned "on" to view the layer, and it's set at the correct blending options & opacity (normal, 100%).
If I run the action in Photoshop, save the file with all the action-created layers, and reopen the file in Elements 11, THEN the selective color layer shows its correct pink color.  But when I run the action as a stand-alone action in Elements11, it does not.
Can anyone offer help as to why this is happening? Is there something special I need to do to make the action work correctly in Elements 11? My understanding was that it should RUN and create the layers correctly, although some of them will not be editable in Elements11. However, as it stands, it is not creating them with the correct color.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You probaly need to record the action in a little different way in photoshop cs4 to get the selective color adjustment layer to work.
    Try something like this:
    1. In photoshop cs4 add an selective color adjustment layer, but don't do any adjustments and stop recording the action.
    2. Undo the selective color adjustment layer and then double click on on the selective color adjustment layer step in the actions panel
and when the dialog opens set your adjustments and click ok.
Now it should work in pse 11:

  • Selective Color Correction - Adding to multiple channels

    Hi - I am using CS3 on a Mac OSX 10.5.6
I am experiencing an oddity when making color adjustments with Selective Color Correction. I am working with RGB images trying to adjust to get colors in gamut and to maintain detail before converting to CMYK. As an example, I have an image comprised of various red items. I want to add cyan to get some detail for the highly saturated areas. Regardless of the Relative or Absolute setting, when I add cyan I am also getting a lot of black added. By the time I get a 3% dot in cyan I may have 10-12% K. When I reduce the black it also reduces the cyan.
Is this because I am in RGB mode? I want to make these adjustments before separating to CMYK so I can keep detail that is getting blown away in the conversion. I would have hoped that because it is controlled with sliders for CMYK it would isolate it's effects to the specific channel but that is not what is happening.
    Any ideas?

I am working with RGB images trying to adjust to get colors in gamut and to maintain detail before converting to CMYK.
If you are trying to bring totally oversaturated RGB colors into the CMYK gammut, then ideally you will have to learn about channel mixing. It may be necessary to reproduce the Cyan channel (Red) by finding detail from other channels. Selective color, as you've discovered can only take you so far.
Luminosity blended Hue/saturation adjustments taken to low opacity is another high end tip, and work around. If you cant deal with the complexity of masking and channel mixing

  • Selection, Color Correction and Blending

How do I make a selection of ALL the yellow on the Meatball building and make it a deeper yellow the way it has been done in the attached photographs:
    BEFORE
    AFTER
Someone suggested playing with the Color Range: Select/Color Range and then use the lasso tool plus the option button to delete what you don't need. But that's not working for me. Any other suggestions?
And in the next photo, what is/how do you achieve the blended effect on the area that is the where you would more obviously see that this is made-up of two photos? It's a blending mode right? Which one?
    Thanks!

The answer in both cases is it come down to masking.  Masking is nothing more then a selection and the selection can have both hard and soft edges to help layer blend better. Blending modes and bend if setting can also help with colors.  I'll do a little example with your first image since you did not post both layers for the second image.
You need a good selection of the store not perfect.  I started by using select Color range to get a starting point selection. Then I switched to the quick selection brush to improve the selection. Remember when using the quick selection brush you need to use the two modifier keys Shift and Alt.  Shift to Add to the selection and Alt to remove from selection.  I then saver the selection and then fathered the selection 1 pixel and saved it again.  With the feathered selection active I added a hue and saturation adjustment layer. The selection was added into the layer masked added. Adjusting the layer effect only the store because of this.  You can adjust the layer using opacity, fill, blend modes and blend if as well as using the adjustment layers sliders and check box.  I also activated the selection so you can see the marching ants to get some idea of the selected area. To change the color I checked the colorize checkbox in the adjustment properties and mover the sliders. You can color the store just about any color you want. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/3-storefront_web.psd

  • Black and white selective coloring with brushes disappeared

    The down and dirty:
    Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.1
    Aperture then updated my library
I open a file that I have selectively colored with black and white (a track and field runner and her lane is color, the field is black and white) and to my horror the thumbnail and "quick preview" is correctly colored, but the full resolution image is not
How do I get my hard work back?

I'd like to add one last bit that seems strange to me (and gives me hope that I can recover my edits). When I switch "quick preview" from on to off and the image zooms to the native resolution my edits are in tact for half a second before going away (the image fully loads - I'm not looking at an expanded rendering of the quick preview).
Also, when I move the image at full zoom my B&W edits flash briefly until I stop moving the image.
I tried repair permissions and repair database. Both failed.

  • Question about HSL Develop Controls vs. Photoshop Selective Color

Im an advanced Photoshop user and I enjoy shooting landscapes, macros and abstracts. Ive just started to experiment with Lightroom and have used it to process several hundred shots from a recent trip to the California Coast.
Even though my usage of the next Develop controls in Lightroom is still pretty limited, I find the new Basic Develop and Tone Controls to be very intuitive to use and Im getting better results than I could from Adobe Camera Raw 3.7 and earlier. Therefore, kudos to the Lightroom team.
But, I also have some questions regarding the HSL controls and what seems to be an omission of some useful functionality. To help with framing my question lets assume that we have shot of a waterfall in the forest. The waterfall is in partial shade and the rest of the scene is in partial to full sun. Also the histogram for image indicates that a blend of several bracketed images isnt needed to deal with the overall dynamic range within the scene.
If I was processing this shot in Photoshop, I would likely adjust the overall White Balance / Exposure / Black Clip / Contrast / Brightness in Camera Raw and then finish the image within Photoshop. Since the water of the waterfall described above is in the shade, it will likely have a color cast relative to the White Balance that I set for the rest of the image that is full sun.
With Photoshop, I would often set a couple of sample points and then use a Selective Color layer to correct for the color cast in the whites of the water and to neutralize the blacks in the shade. I would also sometimes increase the amount of black in the Selective Color Blacks tab to enhance the image contrast. These adjustments could have layer masks associated with them but for this example lets assume that the dont need any mask. Thus, I would hope that I could accomplish the same type of globally based whites and blacks color cast removal within Lightroom but I cant seem to find a way to accomplish this.
With Lightroom, I see that there are a set of HSL controls that should be able to handle much of what Selective Color could handle on a global level within Photoshop but I dont see any controls to deal with the Whites or Blacks. Am I missing something? Is there a way to accomplish the type of correction that I described above with Lightroom or am I going to have to take the image out to Photoshop and use Curves and/or Selective Color?
    Dave

Fred, Richard - Thanks for responding.
I've tried the TAT tool but it only controls the colors controlled by the sliders in the HSL palette. Therefore, it doesn't seem to have any affect on the hue of the whites or blacks in a picture.
Regarding selective editing, I realize the the controls within Lightroom are global but unless I use a Layer Mask the Selective Color functionality within Photoshop is also global. That is, if I change the hue of the blacks then all blacks are affected. Hence, it seems to me that the HSL controls within Lightroom and the CYMK controls within Selective color can be used to do much the same thing. The big difference is that the Selective Color control set include the ability to adjust blacks and whites but this isn't included within Lightroom.
I also posted my message in the ACR forum as ACR 4.0 is going to include the same set of controls that the Develop module in Lightroom contains. Someone there suggested that I might be able to use the split toning controls to warm up the shadows and I will give this a try. I also plan to post in the Feature Requests Forum.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • On 1 pc that is partitioned, both identities are using FireFox as their browser, but one identity can see all images on webpages the other can't - how do I fix

On a pc that is partitioned, both identities are using FireFox as browser. On one ID they can see all images on a website, such as CNN or NYT.com but on the other most of the images (within the story content and advertising images on borders of webpages) are missing. I'm not sure why this is happening, but I need help to fix it.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.image pref should be 1.
If background images are missing then make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows Accessibility settings and that you allow pages to choose their colors in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
There are also extensions like Adblock Plus (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

  • Selected Color Not Matching

I have a solid logo color that I need to match my text to.  I've done this for years but now the color is slightly off.  I select color in the character palette, the colors dialogue comes up, I select the eyedropper and then click on the center of my logo, it is yellow.  When I apply the color it is noticeably more orange.  The same goes for choosing grey in a large area to sample from, the grey I'm trying to apply is darker.
The same thing is happening in Dreamweaver when sampling a large area for the web pages background so it seems it's an adobe wide thing for me.  I tested it in apple's Pages and the color sample seems to work properly.
Is there some setting somewhere that changes the color?
Macbook Pro, 23inch display (calibrated) images are in Pro Photo RGB
    Thanks for any clues.

try creating a new blank 8-bit sRGB document and run your test in that bit/color space
my guess is the shift is a mismatch between color spaces/gamuts (so you may also need to CONVERT your logo to sRGB) or at least get them both in the same bit/space — also that you may have some Color Setting to check for Preserving Embedded Profiles and Mismatch behaviors)
also, when working on this kind of stuff for web, I usually CONVERT to sRGB at the beginning of the process (saving my master file in its original space) to avoid these types of issues
BTW, i am pretty sure dreamweaver is not color manage
on a Mac that means tagged/untagged/unmanaged dreamweaver color will shift from Photoshop depending on how close or far your monitor is from sRGB profile
in Safari that means tagged and untagged sRGB will mismatch...

  • Selective color correction "Lightroom"

I have two suggestions for Lightroom.
1.) Please absolutely for the next update an improved function for a selective color correction. Select with a pipette the color and over an input window the information selectively work on. (see and compares, Photoshop PlugIN: aurelon "coco", or Software DxO Optics Pro v4.5).

  • Using cs6, I've tried filling a selection that I've made using "select color range" but the new fill gets diffused and transparent in places

Is there a way of turning this "color range selection" into a normal selection?

    Yes
With Color Range there can be stray partially selected pixels all over the place. It best to first make the color range selection and with the selection active switch to the rectangle marquee tool and hold the Alt or option key down and clean up the stray pixel by subtracting large rectangle areas.  You will stall have partially select pixels in the area you want solid.  You can use a trick I use when I work on layers mask.   Layer Mask are grayscale channels.  When you paint with Black and White  with the brush blend mode set Overlay the white and black areas are protected.  Only the gray partially select area will change. So You can save your cleaned up Color Range selection as an Alpha Channel and paint with white to turn the partially select pixels in the Alpha channel to fully selected.
To show how the overlay mode works I could just have saved the color selection as and Alpha channel. Switched to the Channels palette targeted the alpha and cleaned up the selection.  I chose to show that overlay blend will even work in RGB mode when you paint Black and White.
After I cleaned up the stray pixels I added a an empty layer on top om the image and filled the selection with black then inverted the selection and filled with white to create a Black and white work layer.  Grabbed a black paint brush set overlay mode and repeatedly brushed over the image and drove the gray pixels to black.  View screen capture in a new browser tan ans scale it to actual pixels. This sits scale upload images poorly.
