Selective replace foreground-color with background-color

Hi,
I'm new to Photoshop and coming from paint shop pro (psp).
Now I have to recolor a black dotted arrow in a bitmap to red.
All other contents are black, too. In psp there is a tool/brush to
replace foreground-color with background-color. So I'd select
black as foreground-color and red as background-color, hover
with cursor over the area to recolor and that's it.
How to do it with Photoshop?
Thanks in advance
Jörg

Can you clarify this?  It sounds like you have a black arrow on a black background.

  • Iphoto 9.6.1 how do I leave pix space blank, filled in with background color

    I'm making a photo book using iPhoto 9.6.1  How do I leave pix space blank, filled in with background color?   I want half the page taken up with a picture and the other half colored in.

    There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.
    Edited: Thanks to Old Toad and LarryHN for their help in finding which of the many options to transition this library to 9.5.1 I needed to use. Sorry if I took my frustration of the past several months out on you guys for generously trying to help me.

  • Pantone Colors with CMYK Colors?

    Dear all!
    I am LUCK. I am wondering about Pantone Colors with CMYK Colors. It's that I got 1 Pantone Color from my customer and then I changed it to the equivalent CMYK Color. Will I get different colors when changing from Pantone to CMYK because I will print with CMYK Printing Process? Anyway, I am wondering whether the Pantone color is the fix and specific color or not. I mean when I print the Pantone Color, I will get the same result as I print before. Is it right?
    Please help to explain to me whether Pantone Colors will keep their colors the same and stable or not. Or would you mind telling me what kind of colors that can produce the same color every time I print, especially for the Formal Uses?
    Sorry for being unaware of my knowledge here. Thanks a lot and best wishes to all!
    I am looking forward to hearing from you.
    My best regards,
    LUCK

    Pantone is a company, not a color. Pantone produces spot color inks, process color inks, and color references.
    Understand first: Five color printing ("process plus one") is not uncommon, because six-color presses are not uncommon. When a project is printed on a 6-head press, it does not dramatically affect the costs, because the job can still be printed in one pass. Brochures and other marketing collateral are often printed in 5 inks when a company specifies a spot color as its identity color. When done right, the company's identity specifications also provide a CMYK mix to use in lieu of its spot color(s) when restricted to only CMYK (as in magazine placement ads).
    So I'll assume your customer specified a Pantone spot color, and does not provide a preferred CMYK substitute, and your project is restricted to four color process (CMYK) printing.
    CMYK mixes do not exactly match spot color inks; they can only approximate. How closely they can approximate depends upon which spot color you are dealing with.
    Pantone provides its recommended CMYK values for approximating its spot color inks. That's why Illustrator provides a Pantone solid to process Swatch Library. But such lookups are recommendations; they are not absolute equivalents. There are many many colors in nature (and in spot ink pigment) which simply cannot be matched in CMYK. And any time you try to convert between color models (spot to CMYK, RGB to CMYK, etc.) you encounter ambiguities, because there are multiple algorithms that can be used to generate four values from fewer values.
    I often find Pantone's spot-to-process recommendations to be unsatisfactory, and use my own CMYK approximations instead. This is not necessarily due to any failure or shortcoming of the Pantone libraries, but just differences that exist in specific printing houses and workflows. The printing process is full of variables.
    Will I get different colors when changing from Pantone to CMYK
    Yes, the colors will be different. But whether the difference is noticable depends upon the specific spot ink you are trying to match. It also depends upon the specific use of the color. Fact is, human color perception is very adaptive. Colors that are "mathematically" equivilant according to some colorimetric algorithm are not necessarily perceived as equivilant by human eyes, because much depends upon environment (adjacent colors, etc.)
    You can refer to a printed process color reference against which you can compare a printed spot color swatch book and judge for yourself which CMYK values best approximate the spot color. Or, you  can set up simple test sheet of your own, and have it printed to determine a "best match" in a particular printing environment.
    All the above is just one reason why contract proofs are still important. If your customer is very picky about his spot color, then he needs to understand that converting it to CMYK is merely an approximation, and perfect matching is simply not possible. That's one reason why spot inks exist in the first place. If he is not willing to pay for five-color printing, then he will likely have to settle for a minor compromise.

I just download the recent trail version of Iworks and install it. The first document I opened it was ok. When I open the second one the problem appear again and stayed. Pls help

    This behavior was described many times.
    In every occurrence,the operating system was an uncompleted one resulting of the use of Software Update to update the operating system to 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4, 10.6.5, 10.6.6, 10.6.7.
    In such cases, the solace was to apply a combo updater.

  • Illustrator CS2 - How do I replace a color with another color?

    Most of the image uses a gray color. I'd like everything colored with grey, to be black. How do I replace gray color w/ black?

    One way would be to select one object of the gray color, then choose, Select > Same Fill Color. This will select everything of that color. Click the black swatch to change them all at once.

  • How do I replace a color with another color?

    I'm not having any luck finding this.  Is there a simple way to replace a color (like a red shirt) with another color (green shirt)?  Somehow I'm not seeing this anywhere.  I know how to do it in Premiere Pro.

    You can use the Color board ("corrector"). Click on the Eye dropper icon and click and drag over the t-shirt (you'll see some feedback of what's being selected.) You can hold down the shift key and click/drag (slightly) on other spots to add more to the selection (or hold down the option key to subtract from the selection.) You can also use the Color Mask slider to add or subtract from the selection.
    Then click on the right arrow for the Correction and in the Color Adjustment, click and drag the Global control to change the color.

  • Iphoto: problem with background color on Calendar.  Help!

    I have made 4 calendars using iphoto now.  The first time I did it, I was able to custom background color the pages, including the bottom half with month and days.  Since then, the only page that works for making background color changes is the top page (the border between photos).  What am I doing wrong?  When I go back to my original calendar (which I saved), I can still change the colors, but it doesn't work on any subsequent calendars.  Can someone please advise?
    Thanks,
    Catherine

    Catherine,
    you might try to change the "Theme" of your calendar. Not all themes allow to change the background color for the calendar page. For example, the "Colored Paper" theme lets you select the background color for all pages - click the "Layout" button and select a page in the page browser;  then select a colored background tile, like this:

  • Composing mail with background color?

    Does anyone know of a way to compose a message in Mail with a background color (say, light blue) behind the text? I know Mail lets you choose type colors, and also lets you set text and background colors for the message header as it appears in the directory, but I've not found a way to set a background color for the message window itself. Anybody know how?
    I'm running OS 10.3.9 with Mail 1.3.11.
    Thanks!

    Well, judging by the complete lack of answers from Apple, I think it's safe to say adding background color to a message is not supported in OS X Mail (At least, not 2.1.1).
    The likeliest place to specify a document or background color would have to be the Fonts dialog, since it contains a specific selector for "Document Color". Of course, this is the same Fonts dialog that is integrated throughout the whole OS, and this particular control has no effect on a Mac Mail message. I've tried selecting system colors, web colors, even picked a color using the eyedropper with no success.
    I'm going to speculate that this is because document color is a feature of HTML formatting -not Rich Text formatting- and Mac Mail (up to version 2.1.1) doesn't even offer HTML formatting as an option. Pretty lame, if you ask me.
    That said, I see the version of mail shipping with Leopard is promising custom "stationary", and that usually means HTML format. I guess we'll have to go upgrade the whole OS just to get this rudimentary capability.

  • How to replace a specific color with transparent color?

    I would need to get image of a control but I'd like to replace the background color of the control with transparent color (like the commentest image editor).
    I cannot use IMAQ library, so I would like to use 2D-picture palette.
    I can read the image data pixel per pixer, but.. once the color to be replaced is found, how to replace it with transparent?
    Thanks all

    It sounds like you want the "Create Mask.vi". If not, you might want to provide some code that shows what kind of situation you're dealing with.

  • Help with Background Color

    Posting this for a second time -
    If I change the background color of my document, I can't see
    it, nor can I see the different fill colors of any symbols I add to
    Scene 1. The colors show fine when I run the movie. It is using the
    outline color to display all the objects on the work area whether I
    am in outline mode or not. I don't know what I did, but I could not
    find a menu item to turn it off.
    Thanks for your help.

    On the timeline, you should have 3 icons next to the layer
    name. If it's active, you'll see the 'pencil', otherwise you'll
    see: A dot or X, a dot of X, and then a square with a color.
    Each layer should have the square with a color. If the square
    has a black border with a fill, you are looking at the fills for
    that layer. Otherwise, if the border is a color, and the center
    matches the panel bg color, then you're looking at the outlines,
    but just for that layer.
    You may want to go through your timelines and make sure all
    of your layers are set to fill mode. Could be that you missed one
    somewhere.

    If you are using a BMP image file then save it as 256 bitmap file and then upload it. Even after that if issue persist check with your BASIS for the drivers.

  • Please Help with background color problem in loaded .swf

    I am stuck!
    This is Flash CS4...
    I created a flash application which loads in many other little flash applications (.swf files) based on menu selections.
    When I change one of the little applications the changes are viewable except when I change the background color.
    After the first time I view the application, the background color changes do not carry over to the main app.  I run the little ones stand alone and they show the new color, then I run the main app and any other changes I have made are there but not the color change.  When I remove the file and the load fails, the old backround color still displays in the container movie clip the .swf was previously loaded into.
    I have tried several different options and the only thing that worked was renaming and copying and deleting and making a big mess.  There has to be a way to force a refresh of this mysteriously saved color. doesn't there?
    Please help!
    Thanks!
    Vivian

    Hi Antonia
    I am loading the swf into an instance of a movie clip:
    var myLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
    myLoader.loadClip("Capitalization.swf",  contCapitalization);
    it is the background of Capitalization.swf that will not change
    this is AS 2 since the app was created before I upgraded
    Any ideas?

  • Filling with background color

    hi, i am trying to do something that paints some controls on the screen, and if a control reacts in a certain way, it should be repainted. the problem is, some controls are small, so instead a 'repaint' handler for all the screen, it would be nice to just repaint the part that changed
    in other words, instead of
    graphics.clear();
    repaint_all();
    i would like to have something like
    graphics.beginfill(ERASE, 1);
    erase_component();
    redraw_component();
    which i believe would be faster. the reason i can not just say 'fill with background colour' is beacuse 1. background color can be arbitrary, (though it would be nice to have a flash-provided constant or a maccro called BACK_COLOR or something), and 2. because in this case in particular, the background may be a picture (bmp, jpeg whatever) in a sprite below. if i paint a solid block, the block will not erase but instead appear as a block over the background picture. is there anything in flash as an 'erase' fill?
    2. (not related with question title). how do i a. turn off all default options in right click menu (except the 'about flash', wich can not be turned off if running player as stand alone), and b. add a custom item in right click menu
    tnx

    hi, i know there is a graphics object for each thing. i am making my own event handler, i have all controls as pictures in the same object (as the system does, i am doing it without delegating to the system or flash) tnx for the contextmenu tip
