    Hi Kirsty,
I find that may System Preferences> Sound > Input volume adjusts back to a lower setting on every chat.
I have not found where this is set to be a permanent setting to where I want.

  • FaceTime limits the input level of the internal mic, FaceTime limits the input level of the internal mic

I can use Skype without any issue with my MBAir, but as soon as connect using facetime, my internal mic loses it sensibility (I've tracked it under the Preferences/Sound/Input). After disconecting, I can see that the mic starts functioning normally again.

you should be able to set it with the input slider in the Track "i"nfo pane

  • Adjusting the input level of my laptop mic in LE?

I tried making a recording using the laptop mic, but I can't adjust the input level - tried doing it from the preferences in the "sound" of my laptop, but it won't adjust levels in LE? Any help?

If a proper license is held for the product, MS do say that you can use any legitimately-acquired media to re-install.
If the computer originally shipped with a manufacturer-supplied copy of Windows (OEM), then only the media from the OEM should be used. This might require him to purchase a set of recovery discs or USB from the OEM.
It may be possible to retrieve/download a copy of Windows 8.0 or 8.1 from the MS website, with only a product key, but, it is common for modern computers sold now, that there is no visible product key (instead, the key is stored in firmware)
If you need to download Windows 8.1, to create installation media, this article may help:

  • Can't adjust input level when using usb microphone

    Hey guys,
I'm very familiar with this version of Garageband, and just started using a Blue Snowball USB mic. When I plug it in and set the drivers accordingly, the input volume slider is greyed out, making it inaccessible. Is there a trick to being able to adjust input volume?

Option Click on the Volume slider icon in the menu bar and choose Sound Preferences. Choose the interface and you should be able to see the input level.

  • Capture Audio through USB interface - How to adjust input level?

My USB turntable offers Line In and USB in order to connect it to my iMac. I would prefer USB but there is no way to adjust the input level. This only seems to be possible with Line In. Is this correct or is there anything I should know?

The only way to change levels with an A/D audio interface is BEFORE the analog/digital conversion.
If your turntable outputs USB (a digital connection), then the A/D stage is within the turntable, and any level adjustment will have taken place within there (I'm betting there's a level adjustment trimpot somewhere inside if you can't see any knobs from the outside).
This shouldn't be a problem, though, because the maximum levels a vinyl LP can produce are limited by groove spacing and the sheer amount of vibration the needle can take before jumping out of the groove. The turntable will have been adjusted for this at the factory (I'd assume), so you can safely use the USB out - the turntable's A/D stage is bound to sound better than the $1.50 A/D-D/A chip built into the computer.

  • Can't switch Input Source to built-in Mic

A few days ago I switched my Input source for a real track to "Stereo 1/2 Built-in Input" by going to System Preferences > Sound > Input and selecting Line-In because I wanted to record guitar. Now when I go back to System Preferences and select Internal Microphone, it picks up a signal in the System Prefs window, but when I open Garageband there are no options to switch the input source to the Built-In Mic again. It only lists options for Mono Built-In Input and Stereo Built-In Input. What do I do to enable recording with the built-in mic again?

  • Adjust input levels of video

When I capture video from an analog machine, using BlackMagic card, the levels are way off, usually darker. I am aware of the "Clip Settings" tab in the Log and Capture window, but my problem is that for some reason the option to move the sliders is not enabled. I can't control the sliders.
Is it a problem of Final Cut and Blackmagic? I've had many of those before...
Or am I just missing an option/check-mark somewhere...?
    Shay

Sorry, I don't have a BM card but if you're using analog, I'd put a timebase corrector and/or proc amp upstream of the card for level controls.
The sliders are normally disabled unless your input system supports them. They are not available for FW capture since it is a file clone operation. So check your BM tools or drop by their Web site, hope you get it fixed.

  • Help : input level too low in Logic from studioKonnekt 48

I tried to record and use some voice microphone and some guitars (telecatser, some preamplified acoustic flattop, some archtops with humbucker or P90...)with Logic and SK 48 TC near.
If the voice setting with the gain trim at 12 were OK or even tooo loud, I NEVER succeeded to raise a level higher (lower..) than - 30 Db and this with the gain trip at the maximum and the main output at the maximum level...This dosen't allow me to work properly. I've tried different entries (1 to 4) than the line inputs and so on..
TC wrote me that they have -62 db in preamp but I could not succeed to raise a workable level.
Situation is quite different when I use a guitar pream (Radial PZ-Pre) or a Para acoustic DI from LR bagss.
Today, I've tried with a bass direct into SK 48, trough the preamp ...but the signal in Logic stayed absolutely loww while the screen indicator of the SK48 hardware showed me enough gain (orange to red)
I a not expert in both audioinyterfaces and Logic. I do not find in Logic how to increase the input gain from the audio interface...
Any help would be more than appreciated...since I have spent days and days to undertsnad and try...and finally I did not record anything since I have this new gears..So, I feel disapointed..
    Ciao
    Chris

+"I do not find in Logic how to increase the input gain from the audio interface..."+
You don't (apart from the level fader of the Record Track, of course).
You can adjust input levels in +Audio MIDI Setup,+ but when I suggested checking there you replied: +"Thanks a lot, but everything is weel set up ???"+
So you need to look at the software that controls your interface.

  • Line in / Built in Mic not working

Hello everyone. I've got an iMac G5 and for some reason it just doesn't want to accept any sound input.
The built in mic and line in both have the same behavior; no matter what I set the input volume to the bar never budges no matter how loud the sound is. The only time I even see the bar twitch is when I switch between the built in mic input and line in; sometimes I will see the bar flicker for an instant.
This problem was happening with 10.4.2 and hasn't been fixed by 10.4.3. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Have same problem and have read entire thread. I
don't have LOGIC so could not try it. Only
difference with me is that my indicator shows input
from line and I can vary it with input source volume
controL. Just cannot hear it thru built in speaker.
Both MIDI and PREF set correctly. Need help from
    anyone on this thread.
You will not hear sound automatically through your speakers. You need something to listen to the audio that is being piped in.
    Try the program "LineIn" from:

    This should get you going.

  • Stop the built-in mic's input level from decreasing during videochat?

No matter how many times my girlfriend sets her Late 2008 15" MBP's built-in mic's input level to max, the input level always decreases on its own during our videochat sessions.
Since the level decreases more when she watches loud videos during our videochat sessions, I'm thinking the input level is auto-adjusting itself to the increase in noise level or something.
I've googled and search the discussion forums to no avail.
If anyone knows how to stop this auto-adjusting thing from happening, I'm all ears.

    Hi,
I have seen a couple of threads on this now.
The iChat 4 "Fix" does not seem to work.
Deleting the other .plist to do with Audio in that Audio folder in Snow Leopard also doe not help.
I have only seen it posted about internal mic on iMacs and laptops.
However I do not suffer from it myself.
I have tried changing an Audio setting and comparing the Date Modified column items to see if anything gets changed.
The SystemPreferences.plist in my Home Folder list that I opened the Sound preferences but not the settings.
None of the Audio .plists are showing any change. (in Hard Drive/Library/Preferences)
At the moment I am mystified as to where any setting is stored.

  • Boosting the mic input level

I want to boost the very faint signal from my low-end, basic dynamic mic into my iMac so the input level is higher.
I would appreciate any feedback on any of the following products or choices:
My choices seem to be a mic pre-amp:
    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-TUBE-ULTRAGAIN-MIC100-Preamp-182482-i11252 16.gc
    or
    http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-Audio-Buddy-100387450-i1154049.gc
Or a basic mixer (which evidently has a built-in mic pre-amp:
    http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-Xenyx-502-Mixer?sku=63126 2
    Or an audio-interface:
    http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-MobilePre-USB-Portable-Audio-Interface-10221 2776-i1154077.gc
Any intel or thoughts on these would be much appreciated. I'm going for decent, clean sound quality, not Abbey Road.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hey jvanostran,
Sorry to hear you are having these issues with your Mac. If you are having issues with your mic not retaining the input volume levels in the Sound preference pane, you may want to try repairing the permissions on the startup volume, resetting the System Management Controller (SMC), and resetting the NVRAM. • LP8- adjust digital input level?

Is there any way to internally adjust the input level coming from my interface via firewire?
Long version- recording live music, from the line level analog record outs from the main mixer (usually RCA or 1/4"), into a Focusrite audio interface (multi-tracked with some mics), and then connected digitally via firewire to my MacBook Pro. Problem is, that with most of the shows I record, there's no actual sound person and the main mixer is left of to the artist performing, and they often times won't hesitate to push the levels well into the red.
That's bad enough, but I might be able to work some magic if I could pull back the level in my laptop and at least avoid the digital distortion internally. Is there a way to do that or am I stuck with the output level of that main mixer?

    Brian Albers wrote:
Well, like I said, I don't have control over the level of those inputs. And be that as it may, I was really hoping that there'd be some way to adjust the input level (no matter if it's too high or too low on anything in between) in Logic when recording from a digital source.
But thanks for your help, Pancenter.
I don't think you understand gain staging... the distortion is happening way before Logic so it doesn't matter what levels you set for recording in Logic, you would still be recording a distorted signal because it's happening  at the Line In - A/D convertors.
    Basic audio 101
If the signal coming into any recording device is too hot for the input stage to handle, it doesn't matter the recording level because it's the circuitry (whether analog or digital) that's distorting.
I honestly think your only option if to use an attenuating device between the mixer and Focusrite.
I'll be curious to hear what Focusrite says.

  • Samson C01U usb mic/low input level

I recently bought a Samson C01U usb condenser mic to use with Garageband to record voice and piano for my music studio. When I plug it in, it is recognized in system preferences/Sound. But when I try to record in Garageband, the input level monitor barely responds. I've selected Mono 1, as advised by tech support at Samson. I can't figure out why this mic isn't working, since it's recommended for this exact purpose. I don't think I should need a pre amp, but now am wondering if I do. I'd be so grateful for any advice.
    KM

You know, the Samson C01U worked ok with the SoftPre software from Samsontech under Tiger. The input levels could be bumped up sufficiently for the **** thing to actually work even if the input signal was still on the low side.
Since SoftPre doesn't work with Leopard, the C01U is basically an expensive paperweight.
Since Samsontech seem incapable of getting their act together in putting out an operational Leopard compatible SoftPre software release, my advice to the wider Mac community is to BOYCOTT THEM! If Samsontech aren't receptive to consumer needs and flexible enough to act accordingly when the OS is updated, they deserve to suffer the commercial consequences - period!
I'm looking forward to the liberating ritual of taking a giant sledgehammer and obliterating my now useless, overpriced Samson C01U. It's going to be awesome !
