Self-assigned IP and renewing the DHCP doesn't give me a new IP no internet

When I went to connect to my wireless I wasn't able to, I ran a network diognostic and it said it couldnt fix the problem; normaly it works without a problem. I turned off my wireless box (netgear)and back on and still couldn't connect, my iPhone can and other pc's can. I started to look through the network preferences and saw it had a self-assigned IP. I took it to an I.T. technician at my college who also has the same macbook. He tryed renewing the DHCP but the same IP and subnet mask came up. I had recently updated the airport utility and thought it might be that but the technician had also and didnt seem to have the proble. Next we connected it by cable to the modem but that to had a self-assigned IP. We couldn't figure out what the problem is and he said all the settings I had were correct apart from the DHCP wouldn't renew.
Any help would be great, Thanks

I can also state the exact same issue with my MacBook. I am a consultant working for a large business customer, who has well-established hardwire and wireless networks. I have been using the company's WiFi guest network since Nov 2008, and starting the morning of June 5 I can no longer connect. BTW, my iPhone and every other Windows machine around here can.
Because I am able to connect to every Starbucks, library, home, and every other WiFi network that I try, the company's network support folks and I thought that my issue was related to a known DHCP server issue in the company's network configuration. Last night, this DHCP server issue was resolved, but my Macbook still cannot connect.
Do we have a known OS issue that affected everyone on June 5? I notice that there are no responses to this thread. In my past inquiries, this is usually the case when nobody responds. What is the next step toward resolution? Wait until September in hopes that OS 10.6 works better?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My airport says self-assigned ip and won't connect to the wireless internet.

My airport says self-assigned ip and won't connect to the internet.  It's set on Using DHCP, and nothing has changed router/internet wise.  I tried it with the firewall off as well, but it still doesn't work.  The ethernet works, and I tried setting the ip address manually to the same one as the router.  It said it connected, but when I tried to load pages, etc. safari said I was not connected to the internet.
I also tried doing system updates and updating the airport utility - still nothing.

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Now try the following........

  • Self Assigned IP Address, wher the heck did that come from?????

Getting flipping well annoyed with this 10.4 software release! Come on Apple say something find the fix. The problem started with 10.4.4 EVERYTHING was working fine prior to installing, Wifes imac on airport, me on my G5 chatting happily away, the reason I purchased the .mac accounts and the iSights. After 10.4.4 came the problem of the iMac getting an IP address of 10.0.1.x from the airport and no longer able to connect to the internet. So I powered off the airport and connected the ethernet from the Zoom ADSL router direct, and the iMac claims there is a "self assigned IP address" on the Ethernet, which is not true, the machine uses DHCP, rebooted so many times (Windows funnily enough never needed as many reboots as OSX Tiger! and now seems like a better choice if truth be told) and everytime this self assigned IP address appears. Now if I connect my PB to the same cable I get 10.0.0.x and no problem with the internet connection. Settings are IDENTICAL, I even cloned my PB and booted the iMac from the clone and STILL we get "Self Assigned IP Address" on the iMac!
Does anyone have any idea how to stop the self assigned ip address problem?

Powered off the Zoom DSL modem for an hour or so, and
now it all works fine, got this Gem of info from ther
Macosxhints website, a mighty fine site it is as
    well. Regards Kev
Does not solve the problem for me. I'm sitting in a motel with a wireless net. I can connect to the Red Carpet network, with a strong signal, but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Network status gives me the same dumb "self-assigned" error. TCP/IP is set for DHCP. Since it's not my base station, I can't just go and recycle it. It did work once, but I haven't been able to reconnect. I've tweaked the connection multiple ways, rebooted multiple times, etc. etc. etc.
So what gives, and what can I do.

  • Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.

Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.
Bought my girlfriend the newest Macbook Pro 13" and began experiencing problems with my wifi the moment we got home. Her Macbook would not connect to our home Wi-Fi while my old Macbook Late 2008 running Snow Leopard connected without a problem. Airport would say that it had a Self-Assigned IP address (168.x.x.x). Did not realize it was a Lion problem until after using her Macbook Pro and becoming jealous of the new OSX, I upgraded. Soon after I was unable to go online. Luckily I had my iPad 2 and I began to scoure the net for help. Ran into allot of suggestions but it was not until I tried the following all together was I able to share the good new, from my Macbook. Hope this works:
First go to Preferences > Network and click on the cog next to the + and - on the sidebar and click Set Service Order
         - Move Wi-Fi to the top and click ok.
         - Set location to Automatic
         - Click Apply
         - Click Advanced
         - Click the "-" on the selected Wi-Fi router you wish to connect to
         - Click Apply
         - Click Lock to Prevent Further Changes
Go to your Mac's harddrive, (Macintosh)
         - Go to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >
         - Delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file
    Turn off your computer
         - push and hold Option+Command+R+P
         - turn on computer
         - when the grey screen turns on you will hear the OS X "ON" sound (for lack of a proper term) and it will momentarily restart.
         - you will once again hear the "ON" sound, let go of all keys.
         - this resets your PRAM
Go to Preferences > Network > Advanced > + sign
         - click Choose a Network
         - Select your network and enter password
Viola!!! I tried this on my Macbook Late 2008 and my girlfriends new Macbook Pro 2010

No you are clearly mistaken. The Self-Assigned IP address problem exists on many Macbook Pro models, including the current model, which I mentioned as being the original computer with the problem. While my 2008 Macbook is older it was working perfectly on Snow Leopard and didn't suffer issues until switching to Lion. So clearly the problem exists on the operating system and not so much the hardware.
I called Apple Support  and they had no fix for the problem and told me that this would hopefully be addressed in a subsequent update. It wasn't until I came accross the answer after trying many different methods that I got both of the Macbooks to connect to my router. Otherwise I wouldn't or could not have been surfing the internet for the last 4 months.
    Cheers.

I purchased a wireless keyboard for my iPad a week ago and now the keypad doesn't pop up when I want to type anything.

Have you tried to go into bluetooth and telling it to forget your keyboard?
Drastic but might enable you to repair the devices and see if it clears up the glitch.
I had a period of time when my iPad always sensed and used my bluetooth keyboard. I think it finally went away after I powered down the iPad. (not just a put to sleep, a bonafide 'slide the red slider to shut it down' powering down.

I have a MacBook Pro 2007 and I installed Mac OS 10.6 but I lost power in the process and now the mac doesn't recognize my hard drive, how can I fix this

I've tried it but since I'm using a USB disk drive it keeps freezing up or showing you a folder blinking folder with a question mark. (?). When I start the mac up I hold the control button until the Mac OS install disk shows up. My hard drive doesn't show up anymore. Is there any other button I have to hold down to bring a different menu up. I have also tried to boot up holding control and C and nothing happens.  Thanks for the help so far

    Actually, wrong.
The tech support people can help with Playbook purchased apps. If you've called and they said they cannot, you were lied to.
Even in the link you posted, in #10, it states clearly "App Refund related matters are handled by BlackBerry Customer Care." That, my friend is accessed by the support number. Again, if you were told otherwise, you should inform them of such or ask for a manage/supervisor.
And, you don't have a "Partner ID" because you are not a "Partner". The section you're referring to applies to mobile providers, which are the Partners.
    Good luck.

Please send me security questions to my rescue emails ... i forgot it and your claver website doesn't give option to request sending it to my rescue mail!!!!!!!

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
If you had a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) then you would get the reset link on your account - if you aren't getting the link then you don't have one, and you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions, you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?

I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?

I am talking about the Ver 3 download link that came with the purchase email.
That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
    /Applications/Aperture.app
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/

My hard drive failed and during the setup of Illustrator CS4 on my new hard drive/pc, I was told that the maximum # of licenses for my serial number had been reached and so I am unable to install Illustrator on my working computer.  This happened a couple of years ago and I called Adobe and they were able to 'reset' things but I don't see any way to talk to someone now to resolve this problem.  BTW, I have the failed hard drive slaved in my new computer and am able to access files and such things, but have no way of uninstalling the Illustrator on my old drive.  How do I fix this issue?

Contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations.

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
