Self assigned IP??? Don't know how to fix

My airport keeps self assigning an IP address, I've tried rebooting PRAM, manually entering router and Ip address, deleting system preferences files, renewing DHCP lease, deleting airport, reconfiguring internet settings and airport settings and rebooting router. OUT OF IDEAS, this is a new problem for the first time in 3 years. HELP

By "my AirPort", do you mean an Apple AirPort base station or the AirPort functionality of your Mac? Is the referenced IP address that of your Mac or of something else? Does this happen in connection with any other event, such as waking from sleep? How often does this happen? Is your Mac connected to your router wirelessly? When you see the self-assigned IP address, are you still connected to your router?

It sounds like you may have tried all the steps below for resetting the connection settings on your Mac:
1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
5) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
If there are any you haven't tried, you might try them. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, double check the volume button just in case. If you still can't hear the tones go into your settings>sounds and make sure the options are on.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

This helped me.
Go to Start -- Accessories -- Command Prompt, make right click and choose run as administrator
Type this command : netsh winsock reset
then restart your computer, everything should be ok after this. Good Luck.

Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
That will re download and install the App Store for you which may help.
It's ok to install the combo even though you are already running v10.6.8
Restart your Mac after combo is installed, try downloading apps.
Note... if you have Little Snitch installed that will prevent downloads. If you have anti virus software installed, disable that and turn off the Firewall in System Prefereces > Security.

My Ipod is frozed on the restore screen (the one with the apple, when you restore it). I don't know how to fix it, my computer says it is corrupt. What do I do?

I was adding music to my Ipod the other day, from some cds I bought. My ipod randomly crashed, and said it was corrupt, and needed to be restored. So I began the restoration. It restored, said it needed it again! I began to restore it again, and my Ipod froze on the restore screen (where the apple shows). I don't know how to fix this, and I really don't want to buy a new one.

What happens if you try resetting it while still connected and restoring it one more time in iTunes? To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Safari problems, don't know how to fix!!

I just bought a new Mac Mini, system 10.10 with Safari 8.0. I'm regretting the decision! I see other people are having a lot of problems with Safari too (or is it the system?). I get pop-up ads even though my preferences are set to block them, when I open a new tab it's pre-loaded with a fake site, when I click on a link in a search engine it takes me to a fake site, portions of the page don't load, etc. I am getting extremely frustrated! I know the cause of the problem is Safari but I don't know how to fix this! I see lots of posts for fixing individual problems but is there something I can do to fix everything? I wish I hadn't bought this computer, but I need a computer and all my data is on a mac. Please help, I'm not tech-savvy and this is driving me bonkers.

That's really overkill, but if that's what is necessary to make you feel better about using the computer, so be it. If you want to avoid that, see the links I gave you.

You actually can do your own clean install, and no disks are required these days. Hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode. From there, you can use Disk Utility to erase the hard drive, then reinstall the system (which will require being able to download about 4+ GB from Apple's servers). Be sure you have good backups first, as this will destroy everything on the hard drive.

BTW, for the future, you could create two accounts for your son - one for homework, with fewer websites allowed but no time limits, and one for games, with time limitations but allowing access to sites like Webkinz. Then he can't mess up your account.

This may occur if you are connected to the Internet and iTunes is trying to connect to the iTunes Store and fails for some unknown reason.
Try this:
Quit iTunes and disconnect completely from the Internet.
IF you have an iPhone (iPod etc), open iTunes. Sync the device.
Re-enable your Internet connection.
Quit iTunes.
Open iTunes again.
If this does not work, try completely uninstalling iTunes, then reinstall it according to these instructions:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
