Self Contained Final Cut Pro Export Files unreadable in New Final Cut Pro 7

Has anyone come across this? I was using Final Cut Pro 5, created a self contained file of a current project 1.9GB in size. Uploaded the new version of Final Cut Pro 7 and upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now it tells me that this is unrecognizable as a movie file. Quicktime or Final Cut Will not open this file. I'm puzzled.

Hi VideoJunkie
I have not come across this. However, my previous FCP 6 Self-Contained Exported ProRes 422 standard (not HQ) files which are actually 1440 x 1080 will only playback in the new QT version 10 using that aspect ratio (whatever the actual screen ratio is at 1440 x 1080, I'm not sure, but the video width is squashed together... I suppose it has something to do with showing it in square pixels versus rectangle... or do I have that turned around. I'm not sure, I have always been confused about the ProRes 1440 x 1080 format, all I know is it plays back properly in 1920 x 1080 when I transcode it for DVD or ATV, iPhone etc..). In any case, you need QT player 7 (standard or pro version) to display these files at the intended aspect ratio of 1920 x 1080. The old QT Pro player version 7 will let you change this in the properties window, but the QT 7 standard player will not let you (those options are grayed out) and the new QT X player doesn't even show these options (i.e totally unavailable).
Also, these previous files will play just fine (for me anyway) in FCP version 7. If you having a different issue where they will not play at all, then I'm not sure how to help you, but I just wanted you to be aware that my old self-contained files from FCP 6 do work (for me anyway) in the new FCP7 under Snow Leopard.
(ADDED) I must ask, what codec were your previous exported self-contained QT movies? Do you have this codec on the commuter your trying to play your old master self-contained exports on?

Does the video projects created in Final Cut Express transfer over to the new Final Cut Pro software?

You want to go from FCE to FCP-X?
You would need to do so in multiple steps.
    1) You would need to be working in a very late version of FCE.
    2) Open the FCE project in FCP-7.
    3) In FCP-7, export an XML of the sequence you wish to get to FCP-X.
    4) Purchase the software 7toX
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/
    5) Import the XML into 7toX, export the FCP-X friendly file
    6) Import the converted XML into FCP-X
    7) Re-link all you media
It should be noted that when you use XML, not all the things you have done in your original sequence will make it through the final translation. There is more information about this at the 7toX page linked above.

  • What do I need to do to install Final Cut Studio version 2 on a new Mac Book Pro

What do I need to do to install Final Cut Studio version 2 on a new Mac Book Pro that does not support power PC anymore

You need to install Rosetta from a OSX 10.6 install disk.
FCS2 is intel native, it is only the installer that requires PPC support.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update"  It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

  • Self-contained movie asking for source files

I have exported a final cut pro movie as a self-contained file, and after I deleted the source files, as my harddrive was jammed full, I am unable to burn the project onto a dvd. The file won't open in quicktime or final cut pro. It keeps asking for a source file to continue - HELP! It was a two hour movie that I am to be burning for XMas, and it has slipped out of my computer apparently. It was opening on its own without my harddrive connected before I deleted the source files, so I KNOW it was self-contained which is the only reason I deleted the files in the first place! Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a new problem. I have encountered it through many versions of QuickTime.
Typically, it happens after I assemble a compilation of clips from various sources, including imported Windows Media files. I diligently check the "Save as a self-contained movie" option, which always indicates a file size larger than the "Save as reference movie" option -- for example, 1.7 MB vs. only 9.2 KB for a short clip. And yet, if I have discarded the original clip, QuickTime is unable to play some of the supposedly self-contained movies because it can't find the deleted source files. It's kind of maddening, especially when there's no way to recover the original clips.
I haven't tracked this, but I suspect it might happen when a clip in one format is pasted into a movie without first converting it to QuickTime. Has anyone else noticed this possibility and tested it?

  • How do I export Premier Pro CS6 files for use with Final Cut Pro?

In my cloud version of CS-6, I am trying to export or convert my finished work and take to my
co-editor that uses Final Cut Pro. In "export" on my PrP file, I have the option to export as FCP "with notes."
When I do that, and look at the notes, they basically say "Clip one did not export - Clip two did not..."
I saw a tutorial on the web where they had the option to convert the file in Encoder from PrP file to FCP, but
it is not an option on my Encoder in the cloud. When I try to encode the files as .mov, they are tiny, and don't
    look good.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You can take the project file and the source files to FCP by exporting it as an FCP XML. Other than that you may have to export the whole project as a quicktime mov or any other editable your co-editors use.

  • Compressor 4.1: exporting files to import into DVD Studio Pro

    Hey folks,
Having issues trying to figure out how to generate both the .m2v  and the .ac3 files to import into my "legacy" application of DVD Studio Pro. I have separate projects all done...clients waiting... and ready to export from FCPX.
It seems that the only function that this new Compressor can do, is to build the files and then automatically build and burn a DVD. I need to create my own menus and chapters. I  USED to be able to do this in my older version of Compressor easily.
Am I stuck? I did not know that this version would act in this manner in the "upgrade". If I could...I'd rather have my older version back!

Select the job. In the Inspector choose When Finished, Do Nothing.
You will get the two elementary files saved to whatever location you specify. You can import those files into DVDSP.

  • QT Pro exported file is a faded white single frame

I have a file that I am trying to resize to a more internet friendly size for iWeb (it would be nice if iWeb automatically did this). However the resulting file is a white frame from about the middle of the movie. I have tried various setting but they are all pretty much the same. The audio is ok.
I'm going from a Mov to a Mov with H.264 using the default settings for Broadband - High.
One thing I did note was that the progress bar was slow to 50% then fast to 75% then finished suddenly.
The movie can be seen on this screenshot with the original behind it.
    Dual 2GHz PowerMac G5 (plus 15" G4 PowerBook)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.5 GB DDR SDRAM, 2x160GB SATA, 23" Cinema HD Display

I'm going from a Mov to a Mov with H.264 using the default settings for Broadband - High.Sounds as if you are using one of the automatic "share" settings here. Might be nice to know the specific workflow used since some H.264 profiles can do strange things when attempting to get complex graphics/scenes all the way down to a specified video data limitation at a specific display size. In this case, it sounds as if it may have created a "freeze frame" for a portion of your clip. Have seen this happen when compression demands exceed the feasible "per pixel/per frame" ratio for the profile, dimensions, and content in use. You might try manual settings to find an acceptable "happy point" for you specifc needs. Hard to make even educated guesses without concrete starting specifications and some idea as to your target goals.

How do I migrate from a 2008 MacBook Pro without a video screen to a 2014 Macbook Pro?

Use your backup drive instead. No backup drive, then get a monitor and connect it to your computer. Or take the whole shebang to the Apple Store for help with the transfer. Or you can remove the drive from the old MBP and put it in an external enclosure.

  • Saving Final Cut project as a self contained Mpeg2

I am uploading thesef inal cut projects as mpeg4 files and see a lot of degradation as the distributor puts them through the transcoder to mpeg2. Is there a way to save these as self contained (audio and video) mpeg2 file. I have tried exporting to qucktime as a self containted movie but running it through compressor ends up as a video only file.

If you're using the current version of Compressor, if you look in the video settings you'll find a checkbox that allows you to create a muxed mts file.

  • QT Reference File or QT Self Contained, Lossless?

I have a project on a timeline that I want to export as lossless. It was shot and editied at 1440 x 1080i HDV.
Should I export it as a Quicktime File (Self Contained) or a QT Reference File?
Which will give me a Lossless file?
What settings should I use when I go to File ------ Export ------ Quicktime?
    Current Settings?
    Thanks in advance.

    Intel Xeon
    10 GB RAM

Both self-contained or reference will give you the same quality.
I use self-contained most of the time as Compressor seems happier with them and I have lots of space on hard drives.

  • Final Cut Express Export and DVD

I created a video with a dancer dressed in black with a black background. Lighting is good and video looks great on canvas. When I export I set compression at H.264 and I've also exported without any compression. Result after using iDVD is a video that doesn't have the same resolution seen on the canvas and hand motions leave a trail or a flutter effect (which isn't wanted). Any suggestions on how to transport the video so it's the same quality and without this "flutter" effect as seen on the canvas.

Use File>Export>Quicktime Movie to create a reference file and drop that into iDVD.
A reference file is one that is not self contained, simply don't check the self contained box in the export window.

  • Audio problems when exporting files from Premiere Pro CS5

I try to post in English.
I have audio problems in Premiere Pro CS5 when exporting a film.
I cut an interview. The sound seems not to be synchronized when exporting a file. It doesn´t matter what file format I export. On cutting points the sound is different to the sound I hear in premiere. In premiere the audio sounds very good but in exported file I hear cracks on cutting points.
When I reimport the audio file an put it in the timeline the synch point is correct but the interview differs about 2 frames to the original audio in premiere.
The material was filmed on Sony ex3. The files are XDCam HD. I have updated the production suite.
    Thanks for answers
    Frieder

Also, make sure that you check the box marked "Export Audio" if you want a MP4 extension.

help me please about export file is .wmv from final cut pro

I have flip4mac program in my mac
    How do I edit.

Let me help getting your question back to something we might understand.
    - You are exporting your video AS .wmv
    and
    - when you export it, there are black bars left and right of the image.
    How do you fix?
Ok - what was the format of the video prior to your exporting it? When you edited it in FCP, what were the sequence settings? That will help get the right settings for flip4mac.
