Self-Defined Keys on Lenovo G550

I found the utility (in EnergyManagement / Self Defined Program settings) and was able to define a key, but how do I invoke the key?? I see the Fn key on the keyboard but I don't understand how to use this feature.
I can't believe I need to ask this question, but I'm stumped.
Thanks,
David

hi Avikiru,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you try,
Remove the AC and the Battery
Hold the Power Button down for at least 15 sec.
Reconnect just the AC and see if that'll work
If not You can contact a Lenovo Support Team or a Local Technician to have the Keyboard connection checked.

How do I enable the brightness keys on my Lenovo G550? The two buttons are Fn + Up and Fn + Down. I used showkey and I got no scancodes. The keys work when I am at GRUB or BIOS or a real console window but when I have X running the keys do nothing.

  • Lenovo G550 missing Enter key

    Hi,
I am missing the "Enter" key (part of main keyboard, not part of numeric keypad) on my G550 keyboard. It is not the "horizontal" shape Enter key, but the more "vertical/L-shape" Enter key.
Can anyone maybe help me to find out where I can get a replacement key?
    Many thanks,
    Ed

    Hello and welcome,
The Google gives you several options for "lenovo g550 replacement key", including eBay.  Here's one vendor that seems to understand the difference between the two ENTER keys:
IBM Lenovo G550 Laptop Keys Replacement
Note: I haven't used this vendor - or any other for this purpose.  Hopefully someone else can chime in with a specific referral.  Until then, this hopefully gives you something to consider.

  • Flexible Planning:User defined Key Figures

We had created custom fields and included in custom table to be used in field catalogue.Canwe view this table as source table ?If so what has tobe done to view this as source table?

    Dear colleague,
it depends on which application do you use. Each Module has its own table to introduce the customer fields. PLease follow the below stps which are an exmaple for PM module. IF you work with other application , you have to find the Append in which introduce your fields.
    For example:
MM uses  MCBEST or MCMSEG,--> MCMSEGUSR
    PP uses MCAFKO or MCAFPO..>MCAFKOUSR
SD uses MCBVAP-> MCVBAPUSR , MCLIPS, MCVAK,
Find the useful include of your application,
Once you have the valid table to introduce the fields, you can use the following steps for you application instead of PM:
If you want to update key figures as self-defined value or quantity key figures in the  Information System, you must define them as fields in the communication structure MCIPMCO based on the data elements you have already defined. Because you should not change the communication structure MCIPMCO as a SAP standard object, you must define an append structure for the structure MCIPMCOUSR, which contains all self-defined key figures. You can make this definition in the data dictionary.
    Procedure
Choose the menu bar sequence Tools ® ABAP Workbench ® Development ® Dictionary on the SAP initial screen.
This brings you to the initial screen for the Dictionary.
    Select Structure and enter MCIPMCOUSR.
Choose the menu bar sequence Dictionary object ® Change.
Choose the menu bar sequence Goto ® Append Structures on the Structure screen.
    A dialog box appears.
Enter the name of the append. Make sure that the name of the data object begins with Z as defined in the naming convention for customer objects.
    Choose Continue.
On the screen Table/Structure: Change Fields, you can enter the description of the append and define the fields. You should ensure that the names of the fields begin with ZZ and contain no more than 10 characters. Use the active data element you have created to define field meaning and attributes.
As these are either quantity or value fields, you must maintain the reference to a unit. Position the cursor on a field name and double click. Then enter the following data:
    Reference table: MCIPM
    Reference field: WAERS
If the field has the data type CURR.
    Reference table: MCIPM
    Reference field: SUNIT
If the field has the data type QUAN.
    Choose Copy.
Choose the menu bar sequence Table ® Activate if you have edited all fields.
    I hope it helps.

  • Lenovo G550 move partition to new HDD (including one key recovery)

    Hi guys.
    I have a Lenovo G550 laptop.
I am looking to change out the existing stock HDD with a new SSD drive (from what I understand from other Lenovo support services, it is SATA II compatible (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-G550-HDD-SATA-I-or-SATA-II/ta-p/692351)...
Firstly. Is it possible to change the stock HDD with an SSD drive? I have a budget of about $100 AUD so it would only be a 60-120gb HDD. Would 60gb be enough (I really only need about 30gb of space on the c: drive), or would I need to look at the 120gb option.
Secondly, is there any way of migrating the entire contents of the existing HDD to the SSD HDD?
I have the ability to connect them both externally, and a spare blank 1TB HDD that I can use in the interim if needs be.
Ultimately I would like the SSD drive to have the one key boot partition and the original Windows on it. I don't mind loosing all my programs and files - I can back them up and install them in my leisure.
To complicate matters, my DVD drive isn't working (but I do have an external DVD drive I may be able to use, even possibly booting from. But not 100% sure if I can boot from it!)
And to further complicate matters, the laptop has recieved quite a bit of use, so the sticker with the product key number has been worm off. Argh!
Thank-you in advance for the assistance.
    Cheers,
    Dale.

Just done this with a G770.
Simply back up all the HD with Acronis or something to your 1TB disk. Not sure how you would connect this. USB would be best.
Exchange the laptop HD for the SSD
Boot Acronis with the CD and Restore your backup.
    Works fine.
You'll have to check the bios to see if you can boot from Ext DVD.

  • [HELP] Can I install a new version of Windows 7 on my Lenovo G550?? (+ One Key Rescue???????)

I bought a Lenovo G550 with 4GB DDR3, T4300, 320Gb. It came with Windows 7 BASIC installed and I'd like to install a version of Windows 7 Professional I have here. I want to do a clean install!
Well, when I started the installation, the disks were partitioned as follows:
    1. 200 Mb - System;
    2. 233 GB - Hard c: \ (where I believe that Windows 7 Basic is installed)
    3. 30.2 GB - Lenovo (here are the drivers, totaling 800MB used!)
    4. LENOVO_PART - 14.8GB [OEM] (is a hidden partition! Probably the One Key Rescue. He says CAN NOT INSTALL, OEM is because, for the MANUFACTURER)
The question is: if I delete the first 3 partitions, leaving only the hidden partition (Lenovo_PART-14.8Gb) and install Windows 7 Professional, will work?? If later I want to restore the system using the discs created by One Key Rescue, will work too? That will give an error?
PLEASE HELP! Windows 7 BASIC sucks!
(Thanks to google for the english translation)

OK - I was under the impression that you had a brand new machine and did not have to restore any data stored already.  If it were me - I would back up all of my data - not with True Image - but just back it up.  Then I would do a clean install of Windows 7  (getting rid of all those partitions) and either create one or two.   I just use one and then do regular images wtih Acronis True Image - but you could create two - one for the OS and applications and another for all your data directories.
I don't know how you would do a new install while trying to create the partitions exactly the way Lenovo has them when the machine is delivered.  (I don't think Lenovo does either)  So - I would make it simple and just get rid of them all after your data is backed up.   If you have new applications loaded, I would just install them again.  Not the most convenient but in the long run you will have an easier system to back up and manage.
I'm not a fan of Lenovo's instant restore proceedure, because A: it is complicatied, and B: it doesn't buy you anything if you crash your hard drive anyway.  It is really only good if you A: do regular backups with the instant restore, and B: either have a virus or corrupt some data and need to use it.  You can do the same thing by using the Microsoft system restore point proceedure.  So - to me it is just a gimick and makes your drive a mess wtih hidden partitions, etc.
That would be my approach.  I would NOT try to backup your current configuraton with Acronis before installing a new OS.  It can be done - but I think it will be very messy.  A much better approach would be just to delete all of those partitions with the Windows 7 install proceedure - then create just one or two new partitions as you install the new OS.  Then start using Acronis to do regular images on your drive.  You can also do incrementals so it only takes a couple of minutes each day.
Installing Windows 7 is a piece of cake as it finds all the drivers for you.  Just make sure you have it connected to an ethernet cable.  Then install your applications and then load your data back.  Very straigtforward.
The advantages you will get will be:  A:  You will get use of your entire hard drive space.  B:  It will be much easier to manage and back up.  C:  Using Acronis to backup your drive will be simple  D: If you ever lose data you can simply use Acronis to restore the directory or data file, or E:  If you lose your entire hard drive you simply get a new one and then restore from the Acronis CD and point it to your last backup image.
I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Lenovo G550 one key recovery and wi-fi problem

    Hello all,
I have recently upgraded Vista to Win 7 on my G550 and I have a problem with the wlan connection. I get connected, but there's no internet access, only "limited connectivity". The driver's installed correctly, I've checked each and every setting and cannot find the source of this problem.
My OneKeyRecovery is not working anymore, I looked at the drivers site and saw there is no Recovery driver for Win 7. How can this be?
Anyone care to help me, please?

Could be a problem with the Lenovo ReadyConn-software, as described here:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/Lenovo-G550-Wi-fi-Problems/m-p/153935;jsessio...
Not sure if it applies to w7, but it could be worth a try...

  • Lenovo G550 Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

This Notice refers to 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U models of the Lenovo G550 notebook PC’s only.
The 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U G550 systems ship preloaded with Windows XP Professional, and include a Windows 7 Professional upgrade disk.
Issue: When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, some users have been unable to successfully complete the upgrade.  The most commonly reported failure point is when the customer is asked to insert a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) key. The Microsoft Upgrade process for Win XP to Win7 requires the upgrade to be executed from a ‘cold boot’. If the Windows 7 DVD is inserted while the system is running, the installation process will auto run. However, at the end of the installation process, the system will ask for a 25-key Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The Win7 upgrade process will not successfully finish the installation using this method. The installation DVD must be inserted while the machine is powered off and not running.
When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, Microsoft advises that this process be done via a custom ‘clean’ installation.  Per Microsoft.com; "A custom (clean) installation erases the contents of your PC's hard drive. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7".  The clean install will remove any pre-loaded software applications, including VeriFace, One Key Recovery, and other applications that were installed by Lenovo or the user.
Customers should review the following information prior to performing the Windows 7 Professional upgrade.
The Windows 7 installation procedure provides a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional edition. During this process, all contents of the C: drive including all applications, files, programs and user data will be archived in the Windows.old folder.  The data should be available for access, but the applications and programs will not run, and Windows 7 appropriate versions will need to be installed. Lenovo STRONGLY recommends that external backups or all user data are made prior to initiating the upgrade in order to prevent permanent data loss.
    Correct Windows 7 Upgrade Procedure:
    1) Power off system
    2) Insert Windows 7 disk in the DVD drive
    3) Power on system and press F12 to access the boot order menu
    4) Select the option to start from the DVD / Optical drive
    5) Follow the on screen directions as Windows 7 installs
    6) Remove the DVD at the end of the process and reboot to Windows 7
Windows 7 has native drivers that will fully support most of the hardware on Lenovo G550 systems.  In order to maximize the functionality of the Trackpad and the Power Management system, the appropriate Lenovo drivers must be installed. The most current Lenovo Windows 7 drivers and applications are available for download here. Please check this site periodically for updates.
Recovering to Windows XP by using One Key Recovery:
The One Key Recovery feature can restore the factory XP downgrade preload at any time, but will erase all other data.
Important: All user data should be saved prior to implementing the following procedure
          1) Power off the system
    2) Press the recovery button (small round button next to the power button)
    3) System will start and OKR (one key recovery) application will load
    4) Select System Recovery from the menu
    5) Select option to Restore to factory default
    6) Click “Start” button to recover your system partition

The recovery disk set is supposed to have an SLP key embedded, so that you do not need to activate it, as long as the disk set matches the OS version that is nominated on the COA attached to the laptop.
If it really does say "windows 7 ultimate", then there is something odd going on. Can you please double check that it says "ulitimate"?

  • Problem with Self defined info structure.

    Hi All,
We have Create some Self define Info structure Like ;--
    S061 Location  and Planning               --->S501
S062 object class and manufacturer --->S502
    S063 Danage analysis                        --->S503
    S065 Object Statistics                         --->S504
But probleme is when we excute S501 self defined info structure heading comes as
Standard Analysis for Info Sstructure S501: Selection where as in Standard it is coming as Location Analysis: Selection
Any one can tell how can i solve this probleme.
    Thanks
    Vinit

steps to create own infostructure by copying standard infostructure.
steps.... 1) First Create your own info structure using menu path SPRO> Logistics general > LIS > Logistics data warehouse > Data basis > information structure > maintain self defined ino structure Here create a New stucture called S901 (Follow Custom defined structure naming conventions) for application 07, by copying S115 .
Once inside this Choose the Charateristic button below and CHOOSE SELECTION LIST.
This will popup a list of fields that can be added to the structure for analysis per field catalogue.
Navigate to the notification Object field catalog to select the Order number.
Select other field as appropriate from other field catalog and copy them. Then select or de-select the "Key figures" thats relevant for your needs Check ,generate and activate the same structure and save.
    2) Create Update rules for updating this info structure by copying the rules of S115.
SPRO> Logistics general > LIS > Logistics data warehouse > Data basis >Updating > Specific definition using update Rules > Maintain update rules.
Enter the newly created Structure name and choose teh Update group 26 (use drop down) and enter the S115 and 26 as teh group and rules to copy from.
Delete the rules thats not relevant for your needs and then check, and Choose "generate: and then activate the "UPDATING" and save.
    3) Activate the Update type for the new structure. SPRO> Logistics general > LIS > Logistics data warehouse > Data basis >Updating > Update Control > Activate Update.
Choose PM and double click on the new structure that you had just created and chosoe Period and Type of updating (2: Similar to other standard info structures). and save.
This should start updating New orders that you are creating from Now on.
However if you would like to pre-populate existing data in this structure for analysis, then you would have to run through the generation program in background for this specific structure.
SPRO> Logistics general > LIS > Logistics data warehouse > Data basis >tools > setup of statistical data >Application specific setup of statistical data > perform setup - PM.
Here make sure to do the PMIS statistical setup (This might be redundant, if you havent changed any value category that updates PMCO table) and Set Up: Plant Maintenance IS(Make sure to choose your specific structure).
You should be able to check the table entries to confirm that the program has updated the table (Name of the info structure).
The defaulted version could be different from the standard version (000).You could copy the data from one verion to another version using the first step in this block.
Once the genration is complete you should be ready to use this structure using MCIS transaction (PMIS > Standard analysis > User defined analysis).
This will list out all the user defined structures and you can pick and execute the one that you had just created.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 and Lenovo G550 problem

    Hello,
I have one Lenovo G550 recently purchased. I've tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, but both OS wouldn't boot. I'm not sure where the problem lies, as I'm Linux newbie and all I get is a dark screen.
I haven't tried to install it into a partition (because I'm afraid to lose the "one key recovery" software), but I've tried to install it via Wubi and also tried to run its live versions. All of them ends the same way: the LCD is turned on, but shows no image. I've tried to access the terminal (by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1), but nothing happens...
Do anyone have some idea about what is happening?!
    Thank you.
Edit: I re-tested version 9.04 with no-acpi and it worked fine.

    Hi
Tries with Ubuntu 9.04, this works well.
same thing happened to me. greetings

  • Retrieve one key software for G550

I have Lenovo G550 and I did partition my hdd (C drive). And one key recovery is not working. Lenovo tech support told me that I will have to send it to its depot at Texas.
Is there anyway to retrieve the software by myself ? If I make a disk out of it, it will have the same issues ? or would it work fine ?

I did shrink a part of c into the drive D by the home partition wizard software and no problem has happened
this problem is due to some changes like formatting or resizing drive d by some partitioning software. like  hp and dell  you are not allowed to to do any change in drive D cause recovery partition is in fact a part of drive D.

  • Lenovo G550 Service Partition problem

    Hello,
I've bought Lenovo G550 (without OS) and by mistake deleted my Service Partition, which contains files for OneKey recovery utility. I've searched forum, but hasn't found anything exact.
As I've searched, I've found out few things:
    - If I change any partition size, OneKey is no longer working
    - Only service support can fix this problem, in some countries I've gotta pay
I'd like to ask you for help. If there is any chance to DIY (do it yourself), just by downloading needed files and creating new partitions with required space.
I'd really appreciate if someone was there to assist, or just providing some more information about this problem.
    Sorry for my English.
    Thanks a lot !

there are about 113 backup wsi file, the one with number 34 seems damaged. for factory backups there's another issue with it. did you make any changes on volumes? cause if you did, one key recover and one key recover button will stop working.
in normal circumstances, eisa part is not visible. i'm not sure if it works if you copy files to usb.
if windows vista installed, run one-key recover 6.0.
already got backups, skip "back up" otherwise click that.
select full backup, quick compression and next >
choose the path or leave it default and next >
    and start.
after back up ends, restart the application one-key recover 6.0
click "create recovery disc" and next >
select the backup you have and next>
this screen will tell you how much cd or dvd you need, min 2 dvd or 8cd, max 7 dvd or 28 cd. and next>
insert the blank cds or dvds into driver and wait until done.
you may need the system image, you can lose your back-up cd, or cds may not working after a while, so , i still recommend that you keep the original copy or more than one backup.
size of recovery cd depens on how much size of disk space you use. its up 2-7 dvd or 4-28 cd.
