Self duplicated iCal alerts

Hello!
Since I've updated my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 and installed iOS 7 all iCal events now creates theirsel fa lot of addtional '15 min before alerts' for any events. For example sometimes there could be up to 5 self created '15 min before' alerts for some events. As you may understand they hate me a lot. I constantly delete these '15 min before alerts' but they appear again and again. Of course any iCal by default alerts settings on any devices (iPhone, iPad, MacBook, iCloud) are set to 'at time of event'.
What shall I do to prevent that automatic '15 minutes before' alerts breeding?

Asabado,
iCal alerts do not work if iCal is not turned on. To see my way around that, see my 07/07/07 posting "Working around iCal alarm failure".
I use an email advice as my choice of iCal alert. Immediately after I wake my Mac from sleep, I get any overdue alerts.

  • ICal alert 49 minutes off - how to fix?

I have a new problem.  My iCal alert set for 35 minutes before the event finally came up 14 minutes after the event.  I entered the event into iCal on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.7.5); iCloud transferred it to my iPhone correctly, but the MBP gave me the alert late.  In iCal, it still says the correct time...  any thoughts?

Sorry to but in, but KodaDiamond did you walk around in the link Stevejobsfan0123 gave you? I was just curious what it would cost. The battery is $119 shipping is only $25, (figured it would be higher.) Also if you click on find Authorized Apple Sevice in your area you may find a shop near you that can do the work. Didn't have an address to plug in, to put it to the test. Basically you should have all you need to get your iPod up and running. You're not dead yet! Good luck.

  • How to increase the iCal Alert Popup BOX height?

I would like to be able to increase iCal's Alert popup box to show more than two concurrent alert notifications at one time.  Ideally, this popup box would dynamically size itself to the number of active alert notifications up to the available screen space.  A second less elegant solution would be to enable the user to resize the iCal Alert popup box manually.  A third  even less elegant solution would be to statically redefine a new default height in terms of either active alert notifications or pixels.  Anything would be better than the limitations currently in place...
Here is an example of three concurrent alerts.  In this case, the user must scroll down within the iCal Alert popup box to see Alert #3.

    Hi
    It's not at all possible.
If you want to use a textbox with muliple line items... you need to use Text Edit control. If you want to use that click on the following link for clear information:

  • Self-Duplicating and Self-deleting tracks.

So, I checked around, but I can't find my issue anywhere.  The topics must either be in plain sight or not around...
Anyway, what my issue with iTunes is that the songs in my library are making copies of themselves and after a while the originals stop working and can't be found on my computer.  Then the copies do the same.  Sometimes the songs just skip straight to deleting themselves.  I have no idea how to fix this issue and it is really bothing me as some of the songs I have purchased online and I don't think there should be a need for me to hunt the songs down again just because iTunes felt the need to get rid of them in the first place...
iTunes used to work just fine up until a few updates ago.  Now I have this problem.  Additionally, iTunes starts to open automatically on start-up.  I just removed it from the start-up list (again). So, here's hoping that works.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Edit: Well, now that I posted this, I am seeing topics about the self-deletion, but not the self-duplicating.....

  • Changing iCal alert sounds

I set a sound to use in Mail (user/library/sounds) and it keeps popping up/on with my iCal alerts. How do I set the alert to NOT use that sound in iCal?
    running iCal 2.1.
    thanks

Oh, ok.  Then search around macupdate to see if you can find a utility that assigns sounds to sytem events.  Such things have been around since OS9 so there must be one or more for OSX.  Whether they are Lion compatible is another story.
As for the beep sound when you change the volume, I never heard anyone complain about  that   The general user-level answer is no you cannot change that.  The hacker answer is, it's your machine you can hack it any way you please.  Hint, it's a aiff sound file buried in the system somewhere and referenced by the sound preferences.  But if you change it (a) it is not clear who else might be using it since it is not in the sound preferences itself and (b) it will only be clobbered when some future apple update comes along to update the code containing that aiff.  So bottom line, forget about it.
[I know where it is -- I looked out of curiosity as a result of your post -- but I'll refrain from posting its location on these forums.]

  • ICal alerts not working for only one user

My main user account stopped giving me iCal alerts. I can switch to another user and my test alert works. I've found a lot of information online but most seems to be for older versions of iCal. I have gone into ~user/Library and removed everything related to iCal. I even managed to finally delete the home calendar that seemed to re-appear. I managed to start with a clean calendar but no alerts. Is there an alert plist file that could be the culprit? I've done a global search in Terminal for anything under ~User/Library with "alert" or "notification" in the filename but can't find anything. I hate to rebuild an entire account again.

It seems someone has set the user policy at webapplication level for that user.Check the similar thread below

  • Need old-school iCal alerts back in 10.8

Help! I need the old-school, movable, multi-option snoozable alerts back for my Calendar events. I need to be able to choose how long the snooze interval is like we used to be able to do with iCal alerts - I would sometimes use the smaller increments, but I used the 2 hour snooze all the time and I'm missing it dearly. Also, I miss being able to move the alert off to the side out of the way if I wanted to keep it on screen instead of dismissing it.
I use Calendar to alert me when it's time for everything from my son's homework, to when to start cooking dinner, to giving my daughter her various meds, and I need more flexibiltiy than Notification Center seems to give.
With Notification Center, I can't control how long the snooze is, and the default is almost always way too brief an interval. And if I just want to set it aside without closing or snoozing, I can't - it hovers in just about the worst possible spot on my main monitor blocking whatever I happen to be working on.
This is my only problem with Mountain Lion, but I use Calendar so much it's a pretty bad one.

I followed the instructions in the link.  point 5 sates:
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
and I have not.  but this is all I see:
    no iLife option.
what could be wrong?  My machine came with 10.8.4 installed

  • When Are iCal Alerts Going to be Fixed?

The iCal alert problem! Those of us with busy daily schedules, set events in iPhone iCal to be reminded at certain times. The problem is the pathetic little "chirp" that goes off for an iCal event, will NOT get your attention. You can't hear it, and it only goes off once. Let us assign one of the ringtones as the iCal event alert instead of that pathetic little "chirp". Also, add a repeat every 15 seconds to the alert, so it goes off every 15 seconds until you press "OK or Cancel" (up to 30 minutes would be good). I can't tell you how many meetings I've missed, scheduled calls to make I've missed, when to take medicines I've missed, and so on. I setup the iCal schedule on the desktop iMac (usually for the month), which syncs to the iPhone. I know several busy people that have this same complaint. This has been a complaint since 2009, and reported several times, when is it going to be fixed? I would love to upgrade from the 3GS to the 4, but if this isn't fixed, I will have to use another brand. I really don't want to, but this feature is too important.

This question is posted here to give others the opportunity to answer, with possible workarounds, until Apple fixes it.
This question also serves as another way to point the problem out to Apple, and possibly get one of their employees to offer an answer or workaround. The whole purpose of this forum is "Support" via "Apple Discussions". If we "discuss" the problem, someone may find the answer. The feedback has already been left about this, by more than one person, since 2009. The only way to deal with this problem, is to let people talk about it.

  • ICal alerts don't work with smart cover closed?

Is this by design?  If I have an event set for an alarm in ical, then i have my smart cover closed to cover the iPad...the alarm won't go off until I lift the smart cover.  It could be an hour or so past the event, but I won't know that until I open the cover.  This basically eliminates the use of using iCal alert system.
Am I missing something?  Would love for the alarm to go off to remind me of meetings etc regardless if the smart cover is closed or not.
    Thanks for any advice.

Alarms beep on my iPad 2 with the cover closed.  You must not have it set up correctly.  Is Calendar included in your Notification Center alerts?  Mine is set for Alerts, Badge App Icon ON, and View in Lock Screen ON.

  • Any hack to make the iCal Alert window larger? Expandable?

I live and die by the iCal Alert window.
It's way too tiny for me.
Has anyone seen a hack that allows it to be larger, or even better, expandable via the lower-right corner expando trick?

You can also turn on zoom in System Preferences/Universal Access, then use *cmd opt =* (that's holding down the command or apple key, the option key, and the = key) to enlarge, cmd opt - to shrink back down.

  • How do I start a specific app on my iMac at 0700 each day? I used to be able to do this through an iCal Alert, but this facility seems to have recently been removed.

I need to have the app Money start automatically at 0700 each day so that I get automatic notification of billos to pay today. I used to be able to do this through an apple script, then more recently through a standard alert within iCal. But things seem to  have changed and that no longer works. I have tried adding an attachment to the daily event but that also does not work, and there seems to be no recent documentstion/help which assists me.

Problem solved. Use a calenday which is on the Mac, not on iCloud. Then set up a daily event and use Custom Alert to open the .app file.

  • Setting up SMS Text message iCal alert

Hey all, I'm trying to set up iCal to send an sms text message alert to my phone as describe on one of apples tutorials.  Either my phone isn't working, or iCal is not sending the alert.  Does iCal have to be open for this to work? Does macmail?  Anyone have any suggestions, or can someone link up to a previous discussion that covered this topic?

    Hey all,
thanks for checkin up on it.
The discussion posted by John has the information I was referring to.
The problem might be with how the telephone company handles email/sms texts rather than with iCal
I'll post a reply when I get this figured out.
    Thanks for the replies

  • How can I change default iCal alert tones?  Basso is awful!

I am running iCal on a MacBook Pro using OS X 10.9.4
I've looked at previous threads and tried their suggestions of altering the default in the Library or using Terminal.   Neither of these seem to work in the new OS X, as the files have been restructured for iCal or placed in other directories.
Please help - I do not want to receive alerts with the horrible 'Basso' tone.   I can customise new events as I create them, but events from the cloud use the default sound (which is 'Basso') and I want to change that.

Make sure "All Day" is not checked and you can do it.
Update: I now see you want that as the calendar Events default. Sorry

  • No iCal alert on "All day" events in Lion :-(

When creating an "All day event" in iCal in OSX Lion the event is not preset with an alert as it used to be in Snow Leopard. That is frustrating as we now have to this this manually.

How? I doubleclick an empy space in the top area underneath the leather to make an appointment. This then becomes an All day event but when I edit it I see that the alarm is not set. I have to do this manually. Only hour based events will get the default alert set.

  • Set default iCal alert sound?

iCal allows the user to specify how long it will be between an event and a default alarm. Is it also possible to specify what the default sound will be for an alarm? I find myself having to change the sound on every alarm I set, which is pretty annoying. Thanks in advance for replies.

I just discovered that iCal or Calendar  uses the first (alphabetical order) sound it finds in your sound folder
The default is Bass because this is the first one
but if you add any other one that starts with the letter A, iCal will use that one
I added the sound Agogo and now all my alerts use Agogo
You need to copy the sound you want to be used in your  User Sounds folder, no need to change the System Sound folder
or add an A in front of the name of your favorite one
