Self Playing Keynote Widget

Would anyone know how to have a Keynote widget play automatically?
For example, I would like my Keynote widget to play automatically once the viewer turns to that particular page.
Thanks in advance for any help in this regard.

Sorry if I confused you, my comment about review was if you should make an app instead of a book.
As for the keynote widget, this is true of any media from page-to-page regardless. The only auto-play allowed is at the top of the book when opened.
Your use of the word 'dynamics' makes me hope you don't learn too late that while books can certainly be fluid and entertaining, apps rule when it comes to max presentation, interactivity and dynamism. Apps are typically more complex by nature - my point is to illustrate differences between the two where authors shouldn't bring certain app-like expectations to books. I'd hate to see you conflate the two and frustrate yourself in the process, so I'd rather you hear the news now .
Feel free to use iBA's About/Feedback menu if there are features you'd like in the future.
Thanks for the kind words and good luck.

  • Using Quicktime Movies in Selfe-Playing slideshows

I want to make a standard selfe-playing keynote slide show... standard 5sec slides, 2 sec transitions, etc. However some of the slides have quicktime movies on them, now if I simply add a movie, when I run the show, it will only show the first 5 seconds of the movie... not very useful.
so finally, the question, HOW do I get movies of arbitrary length (1 to 15 minutes) to play FULLY in a elfe-playing slideshow?
I may have totaly missed this, but last time I tried it (keynote 1) it was verry fustrating, so I have not kept up to date on Keynote untill trying again after installing the latest keynote (3.0.1?)
    thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions, Josh.
You have to make the delay for the slide equal to the length in time of the movie. Maybe just a little longer to account for a variability in Keynote's timekeeping.

  • Movie in Keynote not playing in self-playing presentation

I have a QuickTime clip in my presentation that will only work on normal presentation mode of Keynote. In the self-playing mode, which should allow the presentation to run its own, the QuickTime clip starts, but shortly thereafter stops, as does the whole presentation.
The file extension for the movie clip shows as MPEG - anyone know how I can get this to play properly on cue in the presentation ... I saw a post that suggested iSquint, but I couldn't get it to solve the problem -- HELP!

    Curious,

This seems to be an issue concerning recent updates to KN and QT.
However, your problem may simply be a codec issue. Does the file play without probs in QT? (I see it does play in normal pres mode). You may need to convert that file from its original mpeg codec to something else. If you have QT Pro this will be easy.

  • No Sound on Interactive Keynote Widget?

OBJECTIVE: I am trying to imbed an interactive Keynote Widget into an iBook with short audio clips that play after transitions between slides. The Keynote presentation consists of 8 slides that generally consist of an image, a couple of buttons (shapes with associated links to specific slides), a text box or two, and some have inserted audio .m4a files (less than 5 seconds in length). The audio objects are set to 'start after transition'. The overall presentation is set as a 'Links only' presentation type.
PROBLEM: After testing succesfully in Keynote, I saved the presentation, dragged it into iBooks author, and previewed it in iBooks (running on OSX 10.9.2 Mavericks). The widget works splendidly... except the sound. Audio objects aren't activated by transitions. No sound at all out of the Keynote Widget.
WHAT I'VE TRIED: I have checked that sound is working right on my Mac. In fact, Audio widgets on the next page of the same iBook work fine. I changed the audio files in the keynote presentation with a different one that was already working in my iBook as an audio widget. I have tried putting the keynote presentation into a untouched standard Apple template. No sound at all from the Keynote Widget. I also looked for solutions in online help files, Apple's Developer Forums for iBooks Author, and here in this section of the Apple Support Communities. I only found two similar questions/problems neither with a posted resolution (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22443281#22443281 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/22444086#22444086).
    TECH SPECS:
    iBooks version 1.0.1
    iBooks Author version 2.1.1
    Keynote version 6.1
    OSX version 10.9.2
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? Or is it an inherent limitation in the program? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That being the case, Apple has stated that recorded narration will not work in the keynote widget (see iBooks Author: About the Keynote widget - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5067).
    Self-Playing and Recorded presentations
Self-Playing presentations and Recorded presentations with voiceover narration may not work as expected. Readers will be able to view and manually advance your presentation, but recorded narration and timings won’t be available.
The same article seems to indicate that some audio files should work in the widget, evidently as sound objects.
Keynote files can contain media—such as images, movies, and audio—but don’t use a Keynote file just to add media to your book.
I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work yet though. If we can figure out how to get sound objects to work you could still put the audio in your widget, just break it up into a seperate sound file for each slide, and advance to next slide on click. Someone would have to figure out how to get the sound objects to play like they should though...
With regard to the other audio files: That is weird that Apple told you to use .m4p format for audio. Their online documentation says to use m4a. The following is an excerpt from iBooks Author: supported file formats - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2838.
Video and audio files: M4V, M4ANote:   For the Media widget, you can add a video file or an audio file (in a format QuickTime supports) to your book. You can convert other types of files using iMovie, QuickTime Player, or Compressor. For the HTML widget, the suggested file formats are MP4 video files and M4A audio files.
Either the tech who emailed you saying to use .m4p is mixed up, or their online documentation is wrong.
Please let us know if changing to m4p works for you. That may help others out.

  • Quality of Keynote widget in iBooks Author

    Dear All,
I am working on an iBook with many Keynote widgets. The keynotes are already made and connected to my iBook, but when i publish it to my iPad3 everything is unsharp. I played around with many resolutions and sizes but nothing helps. So i did a test with only text that has been typed in keynote. But also if i use only text, everything is blurry. How can i fix this problem?
    Best Regards,
    Vectar

Here are 2 screens. The sharp screen is just a normal iBook page. The screen unsharp screen, is teh same content only now in keynote and used as a widget and opened in fullscreen mode. It's a preview book that I email to myself and than choose to open with iBooks on my iPad.

  • Does keynote widget work in portrait

I can insert a keynote into an existing chapter (page) or section when in landscape mode but can't get it to when I am in protrait mode - I just get a beep.  Am I doing something wrong?  One time - not sure how I did it,  but I got it to insert in protrait mode but it went below that blue line that makes things invisible and it didnt show up in my proof.
    I am kind of baffled.

Not sure to be honest - it is the standard white theme with black bars under each chapter.  The chapter or section templates are varied but primarily the portrait template I have removed the two column formatting and just have a blank setion in the middle of the page.  When I try to insert keynote widget it just beeps and does nothing.  I have inserted in in the landscape version and it plays fine in proof.  So for now I just placed a note in the portrati version instructing the user to switch to landscape - seems kind of a "jack" work arouund though.

  • Problem burning/playing self-play DVD

Project: to burn and play a self-play DVD
Process: to do this I ....
....first created a slideshow in Keynote
....second exported as a Quicktime movie
....third burned a DVD - however, when placed in a DVD player, I received a message on the player that it was a data disk!
....fourth I used iDVD to create a DVD - however, when it played, "Movies" had to be selected and then the movie to be played had to be selected - what I would like to have is a DVD that will play the movie itself when inserted into a DVD player.
...fifth used iDVD to create another DVD and used its map function and dropped the movie on the firs square for it to be played automatically - this process was suggested in a reply to my post in iDVD- however, it resulted having to make the same selections as before.
...sixth used "Burn.app" which converted my Keynote slideshow to a movie in mpg format and burned the DVD - however, when I played the DVD in a DVD player, the message came up on the TV screen "Playback Prohibited by Area Limitations" and it would not play
I also have used a Burn Folder on which I placed my Quicktime movie but when used in a DVD player, I received the message on TV screen that it was a data disk!
I would appreciate any suggestions, help, and information on how to burn a DVD that will simply automatically play the movie when placed in a DVD player without the introductions and selections to be made when iDVD is used.
Thanks very much for your help.

How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

  • Can't advance Keynote Widget on iBooks Author

Using Keynote 9 (version 5.1.1) and OS X Lion (10.7.2) and experiencing problems with Keynote Widget for iBooks Author.
The drag-and-drop feature works fine; I see the first slide - but the arrow button appears to be grayed out. Can't advance through any of my (pretty basic) transitions.
I don't have an iPad, so I can't see if the iBooks file works on that device, but I figured that the Keynote Widget should show some functionality in iBooks Author since both an Interactive Image Widget and QuickTime movie I added elsewhere appears to work. [That image clicks just fine in iBooks Author.]
Also, when I click "Show transport controls" in the inspector, I see arrows and 1/7 (number of slides) - but clicking still doesn't seem to work.
Do I need to be using an iPad to see this particular functionality? Or is this some sort of silly user-error? (Or both?)
    Any hints are much appreciated.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
Here is the support page I found to be less than "clear":
iBooks Author: About the Keynote widget (note the first bullet-point: "Adding a presentation to a Keynote widget"): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5067
I subsequently found the other support doc that is more clear - affirming the correctness of your answer.
Even so, I encourage you to reconsider the use of the word "clearly," which comes across as needlessly condescending.

  • How to make a self-playing DVD from FCP project of 75 minute film.

A Quicktime film has been made in Final Cut. It is about an hour and 15 minutes long. It needs to end up on a self-playing DVD.
Maybe this is a question for the FCP boards (or for DVD SP, which I don't know well): What's the approach to get this project to DVD?---having it look best on the DVD. Are there compression best practices?

Or you may be able to make a Kiosk mode DVD from a QT file / folder using iDVD. (btw ...I've done this successfully thru iDVD6 but I have not yet tried it under iDVD08):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4764361&#4764361
Please note that this approach is the only way I know of to make a DVD (w/in iDVD) that plays by itself and with no menu whatsoever. Hence the DVD will always play in a continuous loop until you press stop or eject on the remote. Or if you prefer you can also use Roxio Toast which has a similar feature.

  • Critical Keynote widget bug on iBooks Author 2.2

    Hello,
I think I found a bug on  ibooks Author 2.2. If a Keynote widget is added to a .iba document created on IBA 2.2, it cannot be previewed in iBooks 3.2 for iOS 7 or iBooks 1.0.1 for OSX Mavericks. The widget only works when viewed on iOS 8 or OSX Yosemite.
    Check the attached screenshot.
Has anybody experienced this bug? Any ideas or fixes?
I think this should be fixed ASAP because there are still thousands of users reading ibooks on iPads with iOS 7 or earlier installed.

Confirmed. This isn't the only time we've had issues with the keynote widget. Because of this and a number of other issues and glitches with ibooks / ibooks author we've stopped recommending it to our clients as a platform for professional use. A pity as it showed great promise at first. The support is non existent (of course)  and the software may or may not work depending on so many factors that it seems more like a hobby software project than something published by a professional outfit.

  • HT5067 When using a Keynote Widget with iBooks Author, do the transitions and builds between Keynote slides appear in the iPad preview version of the iBook, or only in the finished product?

I'm using the Keynote Widget in iBooks Author, and the Keynote presentation uses the Magic move transition between slides.  When I preview the iBook on a new iPad, the Magic move transitions don't show up (i.e. the transition from slide to slide is standard, not Magic move).  Any suggestions?

Hyperlinks and magic move should work but don't. However I  found the following as a workaround for me. Use three slides instead of two to generate the magic move effect in Keynote presentations on Ibooks using hyperlinks only. As an example
Supose an object on  slide 1 was set as a hyperlink to go to a slide which then had a magic move effect to a third slide. For some reason it works on the mac, but not on ibooks. However you can create the magic move transition effect by simply adding a "dummy slide" as follows.  Suppose an object on slide 1 had an object which would hyperlink to slide 4. Duplicate Slide 4, and make the duplicate slide 5. Then set Slide 4  to automatically transition (with no effect) to the next slide (i.e. slide 5) after .5 seconds. Have Slide 5 set to transition to Slide 6 using magic move automatically after .5 seconds. By having the hyperlink point to slide 4 the magic move effect from Slide 5 to Slide 6 works fine (with a brief 1 sec delay). IF the hyperlink pointed directly to Slide 5, the magic move transition to slide 6 would not work.
For some reason having an extra slide makes magic move work even though it is not needed on the mac. I hpe this helps.

  • My keynote widget in iBooks Author doesn´t work.

Hi there! I can´t previsualize in my iPad a keynote widget, made for a book in iBooks Author... it simply doesn´t appear... does anybody know if I´m missing a step?? I drag the file in a keynote and also in HTML formats and it just doesn´t work. Thank you!

  • Why some audio of the keynote widget don't work when I preview on the iPad??!!

Now I am making a book about helping people learning Chinese Pinyin (the Chinese phonics).
And I made some interactive exercise with keynote widget, that is you first see a vowel, and there are four colored boxes which have four different sounds, you can just click each box to hear what sound it is, and click the check mark to select your answer. one exercise includes about 7 this kind of questions.
The problem is it works perfectly on keynote, but some sounds just lost every time when I preview on iPad!!
The OS x is 10.8.4, the ibooks author is 2.0, the keynote is 5.3, and I am using the latest iMac and iPad 3.
And the audio file is .m4a. It seems everything is just fine, I feel very frustrated!! Is there something I missed,?
PS, I downloaded a free ibook, which called Korean Phonics, they used the same way to make this exercise, it works very well!! There must be a solution!!
Please let me know if you know how to solve this problem!!!
    Thanks a lot!!!

I can not try it on a Mac right now but I will do it tomorrow.
I put an other keyboard (usb-logitech) and it works perfect.
What I also tried to say is that I didn't do anything wrong on my brand new keyboard ( This iMac is a Month old ).
I also wanted to know if there was known problems linked to wireless keyboards...
    Thanks a lot.

  • Eliminate header/captions box on Keynote widget

I have just completed the near final draft of my first iBook.
Among a few vexing issues I have yet to resolve is this one:
I have embedded over a dozen photo-gallery keynote widgets, all as thumbnails. I have eliminated the headers and captions on all of them, but I cannot eliminate the header/caption box around the thumb picture, nor can I make that box exactly fit the thumbnail image. I need to wrap text about the thumbnail images, but the wrap goes instead around the too-large header/caption box and this causes some bad appearance problems. I can deselect the wrap on that box and select wrap for just the thumbnail image, but then it doesn't wrap at all, despite the fact "wrap" is checked in the inspector. The text just falls behind the image.
Can I eliminate that troublesome box? Or is there some way to at least deselect the box and put a wrap that works directly on the thumbnail image?

Luc, I cannot really give you any examples on Amazon, as the only books I was looking for were iBA books. No matter how good, how creative, a print book would have been of no help to me.
I suppose if there is an example on Amazon of how I like to work photos and words together it would be my own work, so I will give you a link to my book, Gift of the Whale. Yet, if Gift of the Whale had been done by someone else and I had set out to do the book I have been working on and had found it, it would have been of no help to me. Not even an iPad app photo book, some of which are amazing, would be of help because they are not made with iBA tools.
After I get a couple of additional iBA books under my belt, I plan to redo Gift of the Whale as an iBook. And when I do, even with the experience of few a iBooks behind me and a clear vision of where I want to go, I will launch another search of iBA books to see if I can get additional ideas about how to use iBA in a creative. My initial experience at asking people for any recommendations was so negative, the response so insulting and condescending, I will be hesitant to ask again, but I probably will.
I think my first book is a little crude and rough, but that's how you learn. Not by mastering first and then making, but by actual making and mastering as you go along. I could work on it another year, easy, but it has a Christmas theme and I want to get it out there now.
As to whether or not I was pushing in an unfriendly fashion, I don't really think so. It is very true that you can examples of where I came on feeling very irritated at a problem I had encounter in iBA, but never unfriendly toward someone who made an honest effort to help, rather than to lecture. I would say that at least 25 percent, maybe more, of the time and effort I have put toward this first iBA book has been put toward trying to solve the many problems of iBA. As I solve them, I see the logic behind some of the processes but there are a lot of problems that strike me as having unnecessarily been built into the system and the only way out is to come up with workarounds.
