I have a Mackie 400F, which sounds decent enough. I would lose portability, the GPU is weaker, but according to mac feats, not real time FX (FCP) but RAM PREVIEW, the iMAC is faster.
Mine is a 2.2 LED and have someone that will give me $1800 for it (less than one month old) and I was hesitant at first as I tested that motorcycle several times before I said YES to MBP, as the iMac stuttered at every FX REAL TIME transistion wheras the MBP did not, or should I keep the MBP, get a 7200 HD, lacie d2 RAID, eSATA express RAID card and wait for new OS and new MAC PRO's?

So, I got an offer today for, get this, an iMac, new, 24" 2.4.
Anyway, I work mostly in audio, and would be getting a 7200 HD, and FW 800 and would lose the Express raid. set up.
So what is everyone's opinion on a MBP vs 24" 2.4 iMac for audio work?
Which would give me the best bang for the buck and use oor have better FPU utlizing? I'm thinking the FPU would be a tad bit stonger on the iMac due to the extra .2 which in today's terms is about an extra 300~400 mhz speed with regard to plug ins, or should I just stick with what I have, use my audio interface, get a 7200 HS, and then down the road get a EXPRESS card and RAID the VLS and EWQLSO (when it comes out in UB) and use PT LE and Logic? (which I can do on both - plus of course get a external monitor for MBP - either 1900x1200 or 1900x1440.
Thoughts?
Either way, they both kicj but t, and I should have no problems, know someone that works FOLEY full time from home (when he's not playing golf) and is using a G4 and 001 box with Digitranslator - -and spoke with another who over the weekend, recorded a full band with older g4 laptio, no problems.....
And I do love th KEYBOARD (MBP) but love the space of iMac 24! Nice.
For video, MBP is better, add a few FX on new iMAC and it will stutter, not so on MBP.....but again, I do mostly audio, drumcore, Reason, etc.
Any one here have a guide on swapping the CPU or is it soidered on?

I use an external drive connected via FireWire 800 as my scratch disk when I edit the odd video with Final Cut Express. Works perfectly fine - so yes, firewire 800 will be fine with your video editing.

AirPort in Intel iMac loses connection and does not see network

I bought an Intel iMac in the summer of '06. I had no problems connecting my airport card to my house wireless network which uses an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
In september I brought my iMac to college and used an AirPort Express as my base station. I had no problems other than that the computer did not automatically reconnect to the network upon start up.
In december I returned home and configured the AirPort Express (located on the main level of the house) to extend the network of the AirPort Extreme (located upstair in the bedroom next to my iMac).
Lately the iMac loses connectivity to the wireless network randomly while the computer is on, even in the middle of using it. Not only does it lose the signal but does not list my network when i click the airport signal icon on the top bar of the screen. Once in a while it will have it listed but will give me an error when trying to connect. The only way I have of fixing the problem is to restart the computer.
I know the airport base station works fine and the network is still there becasue I have a PowerBook G4 that I will put right next to the iMac and the PowerBook will still be connected to the network.
Can someone help?

I have a very similar problem. My machine's airport connection has always been a little flaky, but it's always gone on working. However, yesterday I turned on WEP 128 bit encription. It now connects for a few minutes and then I see the signal strength gradually die until it goes off completely. There are then two ways to get it back working: 1. close the lid, then open it again; 2. tun off the airport, then turn it on again. When I do that the signal strength suddenly comes on full after about 3 seconds. The G4 iMac I have doesn't suffer from this problem. I am using a netgear access port as the base station.

My iMac loses connection to the keyboard/mouse while installing Windows 7 on Bootcamp

I have used bootcamp assistant to install windows 7 on my brand new iMac. I used a flash stick to install the Windows OS.
When I rebooted the system, the iMac gave me an error message that it couldn't find a bootable disk and it asked for a bootable disk to be connected and to press any key. I did press a key, but it did not respond. I found later that both my usb keyboard and usb mouse don't have power.
I manually restarted and used pressed the option key to select the flash stick as my bootable device. It loaded and started to boot and load windows to the point it presented me with a screen to select the language etc. They key board and mouse seesed to work. I couldnt type nor move the mouse.
I tried again using the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse but I got the same problem.
Is my iMac broken? Or did I do something wrong.
I have installed the latest version of mavericks and installed all the updates.

I called the local seller who sold me the iMac regarding this problem. He confirmed that they had many problems with the latest iMac (Late 2013) Windows 7 installation and recommended that I install Windows 8 instead.
I am not excited about Windows 8 as I need to buy a new license and get used to a new interface.
I downloaded a fresh copy of Windows 8 (without a license of course) just to test that. I repeated the who process. I am glad to report that I was able to get past the first screen to select language and local setting and was able to use the mouse and keyboard. I stopped on the second screen where it prompted me to enter the license number.
My concern is that I go and buy a Windows 8 license to find that it will not install as well. Any suggestions?
Why Can't I install Windows 7 on this iMac (latest 2013)? Has anyone else face the same problem? is there any solution?
Any ideas?

Imac loses connection

My Imac loses the wireless connection all the time. Problem has been getting worse last couple of weeks. We have no problems with the other laptops, they seem to stay connected fine(apple). Thanks

I have a17inch intel imac that has the exact same issue.... Loads a web page fine, open a link and the net dies... have to turn off airport and turn it back on and it is fine..... some nights, it is literally every other page..... really annoying when trying to get updates or downloading in general otherwise..... Running snow leopard and it is still by far the best computer in the house, bar none even a gaming laptop my wife bought 2 months ago.... please if anyone figures this issue out, let us all know the answer.....

My iMac can't see my MBP but my MBP can see my iMac

A network issue? I guess.
Both of my computers have Lion OS; the MBP is brand new and shipped with Lion. I upgraded my late 2009 iMac with Lion recently.
I want to transfer files from one to another.
In Finder - my MBP can see my iMac file stucture - but my MBP doesn't appear in Finder on my iMac.
Is there a simple solution so both computers have "equal eyes"? Now that would be great!

If you have an account on the MBP you should be able to access it via the iMac. Can you log in from the MPB to the iMac? The problem is only from the iMac to the MBP?
First check the settings for File Sharing on the iMac and compare them to the settings in the MBP.
Now in Finder on the iMac you see the MBP in the shared section of the side bar, correct? If you click it you should be on the MBP as guest. Then in the upper right hand corner of the Finder window is the Connect As button. When you select that you get the window asking for your name and password. You have Registered User selected right? The name and password are the name an password for the MBP. If that is all correct you should get logged in.
You could try the Using an Apple ID and use the Apple ID you set for that account on the MBP.
That should work.

Can you get a customized iMac from one of the retail stores?

I wanted to know if it was possible to get a customized iMac from one of the Apple retail stores or Apple affiliated retail stores ( www.yescomputers.com for example )?
The reason I am asking is because the ONLY problem I have with Apple is their shipping. They seem to always use FedEx when shipping to me and FedEx, SOMEHOW, is extremely terrible at shipping products to my address. UPS is fine but FedEx just can not figure it out.
If it is not possible I think the base model 27-inch: 2.66GHz might be okay. I would just like to know either way.

As far as I'm aware, Apple do not sell customised/configure-to-order Macs in their Apple Retail Stores.
If you want to configure your Mac, you have to order it online from the Store.Apple.com website.

HT204350 Migrating from a 2010 MBP to a 2013 iMac - stuck halfway through???

I have begun migrating from a 2010 MBP to a 2013 iMac after installing mavericks on both. They are connected by ethernet. The MBP isn't updated to the latest version because it was installed from a previous copy from apple. The migration has started and is stuck on 1 hour19 mins, what should i do? is it safe to somehow stop the migration process? or is it best to leave it be for a few hours or something? i had a lot of trouble starting the process as i had to try multiple times to get it to locate all the files and folders on the MBP. Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Leave it for some minutes to see if the migration process continues. If not, simply turn off both Macs, turn them on and transfer the files again.
If the migration gets stuck again, consider the option of making a Time Machine backup of your old MacBook Pro onto an external drive, and then use that backup to restore your files to the iMac. The steps to restore a backup from an external drive are the same.

Up through the 2011 iMacs, getting into the iMac and replacing things was difficult but not at all impossible for the average person. OWC has some great video tutorials on how to open and work on an iMac. The 2012 iMac is considerably more difficult. Personally I would not hesitate to open a 2011 or earlier iMac if it was not under warranty. When mine is past warranty I may well replace the 256gb SSD with a larger one. A 2012 is still under warranty and frankly, I'd buy Applecare and sell it before it ran out of warranty. I got a 2011 refurb instead of buying a 2012.
If you choose to get into an iMac, be sure you have the proper tools and static discharge issues all set before you start.

Thinking about getting a new iMac to use as the main computer. Has anyone done this? What is your experience and recommendations?

We have a 2009 MBP, 2010 MBP, 2011 MBA, an IPAD 2, and several ipods. Currently, my 2009 MBP is the main computer, holding all the music and pictures. This has used up the majority of the available storage and definitely slows it down some. I do back up the full computer to a backup drive and also remove the large movie files to another external drive. I'm thinking about getting a new iMac to use as the main computer. Has anyone done this? What is your experience and recommendations?

A good share of my music was added via my CDs, but now everything is added via itunes and occasionally amazon. Almost all my pictures and video are added through my cameras via iphoto although I have added some with the 'add image to iphoto library' function also.

I have been trying for hours to extend my Extreme Gen 5 network with an Express Gen 2. But no matter what I do or try, it doesn't work. What does happen is my internet gets blocked somehow when the Express is online and looks like it's set up perfect and 'green' - but no internet connection for anything even though the Extreme is green and the modem is good. Once I disconnect the Express, everything is good again.
I've tried LAN, WAN, though a switch, direct connect, Extreme set to Extend the network, the Express set to be an extension. Most of the time I get an error trying to update the Express. But when it seems to be set up perfect, the entire house can't get to the internet. Just when it looks right, it is so wrong.
If anyone can give me exact steps (e.g., "...from the Base Station menu, select the Restore Default Setting option" vice "...just restore the defaults..."), I would greatly appreciate it. I'm left to the conclusion that the Express is faulty. I've been using Airport Utility 6.2 from Mountain Lion on one computer and Airport Utility 5.6.1 from Snow Leopard on another computer (the latter give more control while the former just want you to 'forget' the Express).

I finally got it working. I was trying to set it up ethernet. My biggest mistake was when the new Express came on, I did not select 'Continue' - I went straight to manual thinking that I would get the most setup options in manual mode. So everything I initially tried always resulted in 'wireless'. Even when I would update or restore default settings, the Express would not completely restart. Or sometimes I would get an error. So most of the time I had to unplug it. So when it came back up, none of my changes were retained. But there were a lot of times when everything was green and appeared to be fine. But anytime the ethernet cable was plugged in, no more internet.
So here's the weird part. When I finally tried 'continue' (vice manual), I would get 4 options. One would be 'ethernet' extended. So I would select it, it gave me green lights, all looked good, and still the same problem. This is when I got frustrated. I thought I had exhausted all possible combinations.
But somehow when trying continue again after another restore, I only got 3 options. One was the same ethernet extended option (can't remember what the missing 4th one was). And this time it worked - it gave me the big green circle with the checkmark saying it was successful. I don't know what I did different, but I know now that it won't work if 4 options come up to choose from. It will work if only 3 options come up. And success if only verified by the big checkmark. Had anyone anywhere said the checkmark declaring success is validation, then maybe I wouldn't have gone down so many rabbit holes thinking it should have been successful.
As for which Airport Utility I prefer, 6.2 looks nice, but it would just ignore the Express and would want me to 'forget' it and would not let me edit it. Airport Utility 5.6.1 was the one that I ended up using the most and finally had success with. It still strikes me as odd that there is no manually way to pick ethernet, it can only be choosen following a 'restore defaults', and only from the 3-option list (the 4-option list had the same ethernet choice, but it no worky).

Using Airport 5.6.1
1) Restore Defaults from Base Station menu
2) Following restart, Select Continue
3) Of the 3 option presented, select 'ethernet.... extend network...'
- if 4 options are present, may not work
4) Wait for the green circle with the big white checkmark.
5) Connected Express to the switch where a cable went to other end of house - works.
Dead-zone went from 2mbps to 24mbps.
I probably spent 4 hours chasing my tail in anger. The correct way took about 5 minutes total.

A little story of getting my isight imac to share

I just want to share my story with you future imac users.
I ordered my iSight iMac 20" with wireless keyboard and mouse online on 10/24 and its estimated shipping time was 11/7. Just like some of you, I couldn't really wait for such a long time. I called my Apple stores every single day to check if they have got any 20"s.
My school's bookstore surprisingly displayed the 20" iMac even earlier than Apple stores. However, it will still take bookstore about 2 weeks to get the wireless keyboard and mouse. I started thinking if I should give up getting wireless set and just go for the wired ones.....
Finally, I cancelled the online order today and went to the bookstore and pick up the iMac with wired keyboard and mouse, and also purchased a wireless keyboard. This way, I can eBay my wired keyboard and enjoy my wireless keyboard & mighty mouse. I am still waiting for bluetooth version of the mighty mouse. hope it's coming soon.
I think it is a good deal to get the wireless keyboard and ebay the wired one while you can also enjoy using the mighty mouse.
I have been using it for several hours. I use msn messenger, browse internet and took some pics on photobooth with my family. (it was fun:-)
I also updated the OSX to 10.4.3 w/o a problem.
Also, it is very QUIET, QUIET, and QUIET. I had the Rev B, so I know how loud the Rev B was and I am very pleased that I sold the Rev B to get this new iMac.

My story is just the opposite
I ordered the 20" imac without the wireless mouse/keyboard from apple online store and they schduled to ship on 11/08/05. Yesterday after I ran some errand, I stopped by the local apple store on Bay street at Emeryville. They told me that I have only one imac left but I'll need to buy it with the wireless mouse and keyboard. I actually wanted to use the mighty mouse and didn't really care having wires around, but I decided to pay $60 more.
I had a problem with activating frontrow but got it solved. Now it's running very well with a fast, reliable g5 processor. And yes, it's quiet like a stone.

How can i get a damaged IMac just delivered replaced for free? How long will it take to get the new one?

I just unwrapped my new iMac just being delivered by UPS and after removing all the wrapping I noticed deep scratches on the aluminium front and a big dent on the metal frame surrounding the screen. Obvioulsy it fell in the Apple assembly process or a heavy thing fell on it. I am so crossed as it took already 7 days to arrive and I now need to spend time trying to get it replaced one way or another, I believe this will take weeks before I get a replacement iMac and I am not sure in which state this new one will arrive. Very frustrating experience. I am hesitating to cancel the whole thing.

IF you bought it from apple, you can bring it back to apple for a full refund or exchange. You can also call apple support to request for a mail-in box so you can return the item. if on the other hand it is an apple authorize reseller, kindly contact them for exchange/refund. They will give you an option on whether they will give you a label to help you send back the item to them or take it to the store.

I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem. Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos? Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.
