If I sell my Mac the warranty will no longer be valid?

You should have a printed copy of the warranty that came with your Air...read that carefully, mine says the warranty is for one year from the date of purchase (original purchase) and does not specify original owner.  See what yours says as mine is two years old and may be different.

  • Want to sell my Mac ...

I want to sell my Mac air 2012 to a friend, but want to erase my credentials..I have no important files on this Mac but would like to give him with a clean install. I re installed mountain lion like someone suggested however it's still asking for my Apple ID on the restart...what can I do to have the original set  up where he can enter his own info..please help.

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall  the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.)
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • Time to sell my mac?

I really like my mac mini and frequently comment to people that I think overall it is better to use than windows but there are 2 problems that are really bothering me. The first is that their networking is simply below standard. I have a windows machine as my server and the mac is simply inadequate for networking. It comes up with errors *all the time*. If a large copy goes through without an error it's quite amazing. I thought they were meant to have fixed this with lion but it is still completely hopeless. It's also very very slow listing directory contents, even empty dirs can take 30 seconds to show nothing. Again I thought this was fixed with lion.
The other thing that really bothers me is the lack of a replacement for remote desktop. VNC and other products are an entire generation behind and there really is no comparison. When I log in with VNC the screen is way too big for the remote computer, I then I have to resize it to fit which causes an error and disconnection. I then have to reconnect. When I get home I then need to fix the screen res and move all my icons back into place. In comparison RDP sizes itself to the remote machine's screen and I can even log into with a different username to stop the icons getting messed up. RDP is also *significantly* faster because it uses video acceleration and can be used quite fluidly. VNC in comparison is almost unusable and just something you would use in emergencies.
Anyway, my question is, before I sell my mac, are there any solutions to these 2 problems?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    No big strike at all.
To VNC to a Windows platform, do not use rubbish free or cheap software like VNC.  There are a number of options you can buy that provides a similar or outstanding experience better than Apple screen sharing option in Lion and Snow Leopard.  I use Splashtop Remote for the PC and Mac and I use the streamer remote client on my Mac Mini Core i5 with good results.  I control my PC from my Mac and has full color and sounds, providing you have really really fast up/down bandwidth like locally or on the internet.  So far, am happy with it.  The client software is currently on sale at the App store for like $4.99 from $19.99.  The remote server software is free.  I even run the remote server software on my Mac Mini and Macbook Core 2 Duo and bypass screen sharing because it is just so good.  I also access all computers via my iPad as well.  So no problems with networking.
In terms of file sharing.  The errors you got from copying files is the problem with the limitation of FAT 16 and FAT 32 file format PC needs to deal with and be compatible.  Keep in mind that most PC Windows OS running now on the planet is still 32bit.  Lion has no restrictions.  The errors you are getting usually occur during big file transfers and this is due to the FAT 32 4Gb file size limitation.  Problems occurs if your file size transfer exceeds 4Gb.  Windows to Windows, this is no problem since Windows OS is aware of this limitation, plus most Windows operating system that is included with the PC are not server grade class.  You can do peer to peer file sharing ok, but not at a level of Lion.  Lion OS does not have the same limitations as FAT 32 and most of the time even in applications themselves do not allow saving of files to this format if it is not formatted HFS+.  The problem is not with Lion, but with Windows.  You can address this though by installing server grade enterprise level Windows OS or buy a NAS that can serve both Windows and Mac platform.
    Hope this helps.
Btw, I control my Quad Core PC from my Core i5 Mac Mini perfectly and share big files (more than 4Gb files in size -- Photoshopped and HD video files) no problem with both my Synology RAID and Netgear ReadyNas RAID.  Both my PC and Mac are running 64bit OS and 64bit applications as they are a heck lot faster than 32bit versions.

  • Can I sell my Mac Pro on here?

    Is this allowed?

Sell your Mac Pro on eBay.
If your Mac Pro can run Snow Leopard it should sell quickly.

  • Anybody sell the Mac Pro and not charge tax?

Anybody sell the Mac Pro and not charge tax?

I concur. Expercom is probably THE best place to buy a Mac - other than directly from Apple - of course.
I ordered my new 8 Core Mac Pro on Thursday with just standard shipping. It is scheduled to arrive some time today. I got it with 4GB's of Ram for $2770, no tax and only 1 cent shipping.
    Good Luck on your purchase!

  • Should I sell my Mac Mini and get a Macbook Pro (Retina)

I currently have a Late 2012 Mac Mini with a 2.3Ghz Quad-Core i7, 16GB of ram, and a 256GB SSD. I have dual 1080p Acer monitors. I mainly use my Mac to Code (Java, Python, Perl, iOS Development), do web browsing, and listen to music. After purchasing my first Mac in August I have loved it. The only issue is that it is not portable. If I go on a trip and want to write some code I can't etc. I have seen similar models of this Mac Mini sell for around $1,200 on ebay. I am considering selling it, and buying a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display (I have an additional $200 to put in). At home I can connect it to my monitors and on the go I can still code. Any thoughts, concerns or recommendations?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is it illegal to sell your Mac App Store gift card via craigslist?

I got a $100 gift card with my mac. I'm trying to sell it off craigslist for a cheaper price. Is that illegal?

If that was the most recent US Back-To-School promotion, here are the full terms:
    http://images.apple.com/promo/pdf/BTS_2012_Terms_Conditions_US.pdf
I don't see anything that says that you can't sell or give away the gift card.

  • HT201065 What do i do if i'm running Yosemite and want to sell my mac?

Hi guys, i'm running Yosemite. I'm selling my macbook pro and want to know how what to do to get my mac ready to sell.
There does not seem to be instructions for Yosemite on the apple post: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support

No. The basic instructions are the same; if desired, you can append the last three characters of its serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page. Doing this will reveal the computer's original OS and a lot of other information about it.

  • Sell old mac pro for new mac pro?

Ok, so I have a mac pro, 3ghz quad, x1900xt, 4 gb ram. I figure I could sell this for at least 2799.
question is, will the base model (2.8 octo) be faster that my 3 ghz quad. I am not talking about the video card. But if I were encode a 5 minute video in quicktime, which would be faster, and by how much.
my quad has a higher clock speed, but not by much.
the 2.8 is octo, and has a higher front side bus.
Basically, would you sell a 3 ghz quad, to get the 2.8 ghz octo. I am willing to do it if i get the feedback saying there would be a noticeable difference. Let me know what you think

    jb5023 wrote:
i also am thinking of doing it now, because I think if i wait i won't get as much off ebay. You should definetely do it, because you have the 2.66 quad, so you are definitely stepping up. I have the 3 ghz quad, so I don't know if i am stepping up. I think I will list my current 3 ghz quad on ebay tommorrow though. hopefully i can get at least 2799 for it.
well yes and no, since alot of the new MacPros probably havent shipped just yet....there is still of Quadcore stock out there, and youll be competing with alot of others doing the same thing, so it depends on timing and pricing.
also factoring in condition of the unit and accessories you can include to up the ante from the othe rsellers. maybe give it some time and see?
im in t he same position, i got my MacPro 2.66 and didnt realize it was already 9 months since they came out and i suspected some sort of revisions soon and couldnt refund it or anything as it was BTO w/ ATI
if you do do it soon, let me know how it goes. im just hesitant since im still liking Tiger, and alot of my stuff runs perfectly fine under tiger, i just dont want to regret having to focus on a whole new OS that still isnt patched things with alot of Programs/Apps.

  • Where do i sell my mac pro book? recently bought and i don't need it

I recently bought my Mac Pro Book and found out I don't need it. How do or where should I sell it?

how recently did you buy it? You might be able to return it for a full refund from the place where you’d purchased it.

  • Why would I want to Sell my Mac for a Pc?

Many things frustrate me in both worlds but the number one thing is the performence of the computer.
I have put up with it for too long, if anyone has any last minute ideas now is the time to share.
It has always been fast in horsepower under the hood, but getting around on my Mac is slow. I pay $3000 for a machine I don't want to have to wait.
The worst is web browsing, in any browser it takes a few seconds to load each page even when pressings the back button, unlike windows where I can just click and things are instantly there.
Opening a simple program like text edit or a PDF reader I get the stupid spinning disk for a second or 2.
Things that are suppossed to work just for Mac even suck, even the calender is slow esp when dragging the length of a task on a given day you get the spinning disk for a few seconds.
i Movie u think it could import a file without freezing up....
I bought the computer for Audio and I can't even record anything cuase I get crackles (And I know what I am doing when it comes to computer audio)
Ironically I use bootcamp to run my audio.
Now is it just my computer that is slow or do all Macs suck this bad.
PLease any ideas why for 2 years I have had to put up with this crap.
Ok I am done my ranting and raving...

i have a very first generation MBP (2.0) and while it's no speed demon when compared to the current crop of MBPs, it does pretty well. I use it for audio as well. I use Logic Studio 8 and Garageband and have anywhere from 4-32 tracks going at any given time with many plugs and no audio issues. I use a Focusrite firewire audio interface. all works well.
Now, all this being said you need to get to the core of your performance issues. Here are a couple of "low hanging" items right off the bat.
First, upgrade to 2g RAM. You always want to max your RAM if you can and the fact that you have 2 different DIMMS means the RAM performance could be suffering.
Second, check your HD and make sure you aren't close to running out of space. A good rule of thumb is to have ~10% free disk at any given time. It's fine to go below this from time to time, but not sustained.
Third, make sure you don't have any unknown processes eating up resources (CPU, RAM, etc.). You can run the activity monitor to see these, or run "top" from a shell. Top gives you more detail and will sometimes show things that AM doesn't, but you have to be comfortable with the shell.
if all of these things are ok and you still have problems then you might want to look @ doing a re-install (archive and restore). You don't need to move to Leopard. The performance on my MBP was about the same for both. Leopard has tons of bug fixes that are worthwhile though (airport issues, etc.) but it won't help much (if at all) for performance and as you said, their is always the "third-party" driver issue (btw, this is the reason i moved away from Protools.. those guys were slooow on the uptake when it came to new releases).
The MBP (even my 2 year old model) is a great machine. At some point i will upgrade (waiting for the magic 3.0 clock speed) but mine performs very well.
    hope this helps.

  • Does Apple sell the mac pro box for shipping a mac pro to a new address

I am being relocated across the country, USA, by my employer. And need to ship my Mac Pro to the new location. Does Apple or any commercial supplier provide a Mac Pro Specific shipping box that can be bought. I.E. that has all the correct foam and spacers for the tower. Thanks.
    Raul

Now is a great time to consider the cost of shipping a 65lb (or more) item all across the country Vs the cost of selling your old Mac and buying a new one when you get there.
The 2009 and later models Geekbench at nearly twice the speeds of the 2008 and previous (at same number of processor and nominal speeds). This is mainly due to Muti-Threading and memory improvements. The memory for the newer models is MUCH cheaper if you need to add on.
I suggest you cost out the shipping, then ask then for that amount toward a system upgrade when you arrive. Or check carefully whether you need to provide documentation of actual shipping or whether estimates will do.

  • How do I reinstall Lion to sell my Mac?

I have an iMac Mid-2011 model that I bought from the Apple store. The machine came without installation disks, so I assume it had Lion installed when I bought it. I have since purchased and installed Mountain Lion.
I am now selling the iMac, so I have booted to the recovery partition and run Disk Utility to erase the main hard disk.
Now I want to reinstate Lion so that the buyer will receive the computer as if it had come new from the Apple Store.
I tried to reinstall Lion using the Mac OS Utility and it announced that it would install Mountain Lion, not Lion. It then asked me for my Apple ID and password.
What I would like to know is:
    1. Can I just put the machine back to its origianl Lion configuration, as if it had just come from the Apple store
    2. If I enter my Apple ID and password, when the buyer gets the machine will he be able to continue to use Lion and will my Apple ID and password be at risk?

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right side.
Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
      A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive (optionally zero all data).
    Install OS X.
Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
    Shutdown the computer.
              B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase)*
Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
    Upon completion shutdown the computer
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.
