Sellers Beware, No Reason or Time Limit for Buyers to Reverse a Preapproved Payment

Making a very long story somewhat less long: Buyer purchased a subcription to participate in our classified section.  They chose the option to automatically renew via Paypal's preapproved payment system. A week ago, they cancelled the subscription within their Paypal account, I received the notification. Then they disputed the last two renewals, one in late November and one in late May.  They claimed the transactions were "unauthorized".  The transaction amounts were put on hold. Then they contacted me claiming I had taken money from their Paypal account.  Had they beeen even remotely polite and simply said they didn't realize they had selected the auto-renew option or had accidentally forgotten to cancel it, I'd likely have refunded both since they were trivial amounts.  I reversed the most recent one immediately, since it was only a few days prior and they had not logged in.  I did this as a one-time exception to the clearly stated no refund on susbcriptions terms. The other one was over 180 days old.  It also did not meet any of the other Paypal user agreement terms for a dispute, yet Paypal accepted it.  It was also not subject to buyer protection, as it is a digital subscription.  I was given 7 days to respond. The biggest problem was that the Resolution Center did not allow me to upload files or comments proving my side of the story, with screenshots and copies that showed the subscription was legitimate and in no way, "unauthorized".  It only gave me options to refund or provide shipping information. I emailed support repeatedly, but the agents apparently do not read or understand simple questions.  In almost every reply, they ignored my questions and issues and resorted to generic responses about seller protection policies or how to upload a response (which didn't work as I repeatedly told them).  I asked many times for it to be escalated to a manager when it was clear that the agents did not understand English or simply did not want to read the information provided.  Finally one agent took a moment to read what I was asking and said I could also fax my information in response to the dispute.  Then they gave me the fax numbers in China, Japan and Hong Kong (I have a USA account). I finally called, since email support was utterly useless, and another representative kindly gave me the USA fax number.  I faxed the information exactly as requested, twice. Today, they deducted the amount from my account, indicating that I had not responded to the claim in the 7-day window. I don't suppose anyone has contact information of anyone higher up in the company that I could send this to?  It sets an awful precedent that allows anyone to dispute old preapproved payments without any ability for the seller to respond.  In fact, it took so much effort for me I can see why many would not even try.  Given that I can no longer trust Paypal's treatment of sellers, I will be curtailing my use of Paypal to the bare minimum, and accepting no large sales tranactions at all via Paypal.

Please let us know what other payment companies you have found to use. I'm looking myself, and don't know much about these other options. ThanksMichele

  • Is there a time limit for iCloud tabs from shut down devices?

    Hi,
I have had some tabs left open on my (shut down) office iMac that I wanted to check during holidays by using iCloud tabs. It all went fine the first week, but some days later all tabs from that iMac had disappeared. Back in office once I opened Safari the tabs showed up again as iCloud tabs on my mobile devices.
Is there a sort of time limit for tabs to stay in iCloud after having shut down the Mac from which they originate? Can I turn of this feature if I don’t want it?
    Regards,
    Tom

Anyone? OK, I imagine most people don’t shut down their Mac for more then one week or so or they don’t want to check out work related links opened at office during holidays... Or does this just happen to me?

  • Is there a time limit for how long a free form can be used/accessed?

Is there a time limit for how long a free form that is created can be used/accessed, or is it soely dependent upon when the 50 respondent max has been reached?  I am creating a form now, that will likely be distributed in early January, and I want it to be accessible through the end of June, 2013.  (I am simply using the option to create a single form for free- not the 30-day trial).

There is no time limit. The limit is the 50 responses.

  • Can I set a time limit for connection to a certain WLAN?

I would like to set a time limit for how long a client can be continously connected to the WLAN that provides my guest internet access. The user name/password is hosted on my ACS and authentication is provided by my Cisco NAC. I am using 5508 controllers (7.02) and WCS.
Somewhere in this combination of stuff, there has to be a way to set a two hour time limit.

If you are looking for your guest to get kicked off which requires them to log back in .. One option would be to set the WLAN session timeout to 2 hours.

  • Socket read wait for specific time limit for specific character

    Hello again,
Is there a way to have a socket read for a specific time limit for a specific character?
An example would be to wait for 30 seconds for an <ENQ> to be read. Naturally if the time limit is reached a SocketTimeoutException exception would be thrown...
    Much thanks.

    datagramSocket.setSoTimeout(30000); isn't what you

  • Size/time limit for AppleTV movie files?

Scenario: I have a few hundred iMovie projects that I want to convert to AppleTV movies. My first project was just under two hours, and it converted fine. The second project was just under three hours total (33GB .DV file), and it crashed at 99% completion on two separate tries, giving me a cryptic error message (15+ hours processing time each attempt -- aargh). I am using the latest version of QuickTime Pro to convert the projects, and not running anything else during the conversions.
Right now the only solution that seems to work is to split anything over 2 hours into two parts, which seems kind of pointless and diminishes the advantage of the whole AppleTV concept in the first place. Granted most of the projects are around 2 hours, so most of the time it won't be an issue, just on the longer iMovies.
Anyone know if there is a size/time limit to files that you can convert? Would it be better to import the .DV files into iTunes and try to convert them there instead? Or is there a way to do it from iMovie (I am using the original iMovie HD version from a few years back). Thanks.

Thanks Winston & Alley Cat for your insights -- I figured I would just do a straight QT conversion to the proper specs and did manage to find it by digging around a bit. In Export(Share) / QuickTime / Expert Settings there is a preset for AppleTV buried deep in there.
Sorry, I feel like a bonehead for not being able to locate this option earlier. I thought QuickTime Pro was one of the few apps that could only do this conversion, thinking that my version of iMovie HD (circa 2006) was too old to have the AppleTV preset. (Must have been added during one of the QuickTime updates.)
Anyways, success to report. I tried re-converting the file (2 hours 47 minutes length) and it worked this time. The total conversion time was actually quite a bit faster than QT Pro plus it takes one less step now. I don't know why it is so much faster than QT Pro, but it compressed to the right specs H.264 AAC codec and aspect ratio.
BTW, I really, really like my AppleTV. Not perfect, but it sure is cool and everyone who comes over and sees it is kind of blown away by what this little box can do.

  • Is there a time limit for a slide in Captivate?

I have a 45 second slide but when I land on this slide from the previous slide, I still see the previous slide. The text boxes and highlight boxes appear fine but the previous slide is displayed in the background.

There is no real time limit. Can you check if you have perhaps some objects timed for the rest of the project in that previous slide? And please, try to mention the version (exact number) of Captivate you are using. It helps to give a correct answer.

  • Is there a time limit for a podcast to publish on iweb?

I am creating a podcast in Garageband.  I would like to do it in a series of 13 minutes for each lecture.
Is there a time limit or file size restriction to publish on my website in iweb?

I don't think so (provided you have sufficient space on your host), but to get a better answer, you should ask the question in the iWeb forum.
(this is a mirrored question, somehow it got posted twice, so if you want to respond, try responding to the other thread and let this one drop into forum oblivion..)

  • HT201304 Time Limit for Children

How can I set any time limit on my children's iPads?
To control when and how long time they may use their iPad.
Can it really be true that it's not possible on iOS?!!! :(

Thank you. Yes parents are driver and responsible here.
I found a tool, an application, which could be helpful: parent kit.
It has some bugs, and take too much control of settings and rights, but a good start point and reference.
One of the biggest problem with this app is that when one disable applications in a certain time, it also disable iBook. Another one is that by changing the time setting, kids can bypass all the restrictions.
I'm sure Apple could make it easily possible to choose:
1- a certain number of hours
2- a certain period of time
3- applications to be restricted in the selected time
Then kids could sleep without temptation of games at night, and parents without worries of psychopaths on chat forums.
Taking iPads from children is not the best solution. And we are not always around to see what they are doing.

  • Setting a time limit for outgoing calls SPA3102

I need to put a time limit, say, 5 min, on outgoing calls with a certain prefix (are code). Is it possible with SPA3102 dialplan or otherwise? Thanks.

Based on my best knowledge - no, it's not possible with just SPA3102 only.
It is switch (PBX) job to terminate the call.

  • Maximum Time Limit for a DVD?

    Hi all,
I'm working on a wedding video, and at the moment it running to 2hrs 30 minutes!!! This is way longer than i'd normall like. Will it be safe enough to create a Mpeg 2 file for DVDSP at this low bitrate?
Or does it need to be down to under 2 hours?
What is the maximum amount you can fit onto a DVD without losing too much quality?
    Thanks
    Martin

You could fit that if you had to but it won't look good. I try and keep everything under 90 minutes or less. Definitely under 2 hours. I'd break it up somehwere and make 2 DVD's. Here's a quick bitrate guide from DVD SP manual...
    3.5 Mbps - 121 min.
    5.0 Mbps - 94 min.
    6.0 Mbps - 82 min.
    7.5 Mbps - 68 min.
    8.0 Mbps - 65 min.
