Selling an iPhone

[font="Century Gothic"]Recently, a client gave me an iPhone that he no longer wants and asked me if I would be interested in selling it.
The phone is about 7-9 months old, and last week was "restored" to its original condition from when my client first got it.
*My question: Even though the phone has been restored, isn't the information that my client has inputted into the phone these past several months still available . . . can someone who knows how, retrieve the information?*
That's my only concern in selling the phone . . . that the contact and other information would be available to whomever buys the phone.
*Is there a way to totally wipe out an iPhone so that such information is completely and entirely deleted from the phone?*

You are correct - a Restore deletes the data, but it does not securely wipe the data, and it is theoretically possible to access it ('deleting' really means just removing the pointer to the data in the file directory). To remove the data entirely, connect the phone to AC power and select Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings - that securely erases all the data on the phone (securely = writing 1s over all the data).

  • What steps to I have to take when selling my iPhone?

I am selling my iPhone 4S for the iPhone 5, and I want to make sure that all of my data is cleared from the 4S before the buyer uses it.  I see that there are a couple of options under setters to reset the phone, so what one do I choose to use?  Should that make the phone safe to sell, so that the new owner will not have any connections to my Apple ID?  Also, what do I do with the SIM card?  I know the iPhone 5 uses a new SIM, but on the 4S, do I take it out and keep it, or leave it in the phone when I sell it?

Step 1. Settings --> General --> Erase all Content and Settings
    Step 2. Remove SIM card
    Step 3. Sell it.

  • What all necessary action should i have to take before selling my iphone 3gs?

What all are the necessary steps should i have to take before selling my iphone 3gs??

Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content & Settings. You can leave the sim card in the phone if you like(assuming it's deactivated), as the iPhone stores no data on the sim card. Hackers(potential buyers) like purchasing a locked phone with the sim still installed. Makes it easier to hack the phone.

You connect the iPhone to the computer, then import the photos to the computer. No loss. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Should the Apple ID be deleted when selling an iphone

Should the Apple ID be deleted from the device when selling an iphone. I ask because I have bought one and I cannot activate the iphone because the seller`s Apple ID has not been removed. I cannot therefore input my own Apple ID to activate the phone

Yes. Send the person you bought it from this link and tell them to follow its instructions.

  • Would selling cool iPhone cases on eBay be a good ieda im 16 im trying to create a job for my self becasue times are hard

selling cool iPhone cases a good ieda?

While it sounds like a good idea, you will have an incredible amount of competition as anyone can go anywhere to buy an iPhone case. You would have to advertise your business and explain why someone would want to buy from you rather than Best Buy, RadioShack, or any other place where they can pick up a case in an afternoon and not have to wait for it to be shipped. Keep up the business spirit. Maybe look for something you can where you live. Offer a service of some type. Good luck with your search.

  • Do I take the sim card before selling my iphone?

I am selling my iphone through one of those sites that buy used electronics. I am going to do a complete memory wipe, but I wasn't sure if you are typically suppose to include the sim card. I posed the question to customer service on this site, but I thought I would get a faster response through this forum. I would appreciate any feedback. The site offered me $110 for my 8 gig 2G phone... not bad I guess.

Absolutely, take the sim card out before selling it. It has your personal data on it. Besides, the new user will have to get a new sim card to activate it with their account.

  • Apple selling unlocked iPhone 4

I have notice that Apple is selling the iPhone 4 unlock in Canada. Can we buy the iPhone at the Apple Store or just on line Apple Store. Anybody knows.

If there is any truth to this, it is probably because of this:

When apple will start selling unlocked Iphone 5s?

When they announce it. Speculation about what Apple is going to do is not allowed on the forum, and since we are not Apple employees here, just users like you, no one would know the answer to that question.

  • Security when selling an iPhone

    Hi,
I am selling my iPhone 4. What should I do before selling my iphone, what information all needs to be cleared? I'm aware there is a Factory Reset I can do, but will that keep all my information is secure and history secure? I've made purchases online and have a lot of information in there currently. And I'm not sure what the hackers of the world are capable of doing!
    Thanks!

Erase all contents and setting.  This is covered in the manual

  • Is there possibility of getting previuosly purchased(in november from app store) iphone 4 unlocked since Apple is selling unlocked iphones in USA

Is it possible to get iphone 4 unlocked by apple in order to able to use in abroad which is purchased from app store(USA) in November, since app store is selling unlocked iphones in USA???

    No.
The fact that Apple now sells unlocked phones independently of AT&T does not change AT&T's  'no unlock' policy.
The phone you bought is locked to AT&T. So far, AT&T have not announced any change to their unlocking policy and Apple cannot unlock an AT&T iPhone without receiving authorization from AT&T.

  • I am selling my iPhone 4 as I'm due for an upgrade soon, how do I go about deleting my apple I'd as my bank card is registered to this?

I am selling my iPhone 4 as I'm due for an upgrade soon, how do I delete my apple I'd? As my bank card is set up to this

There is no way nor any need to delete an Apple ID.
Purchases are permanently tied to the Apple ID.
Regardless of having an iOS device, if you ever have the intent of listening/watching the media purchased with your Apple ID or in the future using an iOS device and the purchased apps, you will need that Apple ID.
Simply restore the device as new prior to selling and it will wipe all your content and personal information from the device.

Once you get it going you need to make sure you do the following so that you can sell the phone.
    Turn off imessage in settings/messages
    Turn off Facetime in settings/Facetime
    Delete icloud account in settings/ilcoud
Erase all data and settings in settings/general/reset
Delete the phone from your profile in  https://supportprofile.apple.com

  • Selling Verizon iPhone 4s

I was eligible for a phone upgrade through Verizon and I used it earlier today for the iPhone 4s. I don't plan on keeping the phone but actually selling it. What are the steps to doing this? When the new owner opens up his iPhone and activates it will it be under my account? Is it in anyway tied to my account? The plan I has no data plan, would this affect anything?

From my own experience, yes the phone you purchased with your upgrade will be tied to your account.  I purchased the iP4s with my upgrade on my second line, sold it on eBay, factory sealed.  I didn't open it or do anything with the phone.  Thankfully, the person who purchased it lived very close and we were able to get together and sort everything out.   BUT, when they got the phone, they tried putting their sim (from their iP4) in to the new phone, but it kept asking to activate it under my line.   IT WAS A BIG MESS!!! Too many details to get into here.  It's made me reconsider ever doing that again, At least we were able to sort everything out with the help from AT&T and Apple who thankfully were both in the same mall.   lol
Not sure why it got so screwed up.  I've upgraded each time to the new iPhone that has come out and sold the previous iPhone on eBay (after wiping everything off of it and removing the sim) and I've never had any issues with the buyer having problems using it on their line.
I think the issue was that now there is an activation that has to happen (don't recall having to do that prior to the iP4s).  If I had activated the phone, removed the sim prior to shipping it, then I probably wouldn't have had this issue, but the intent was to sell it factory-sealed.   I believe it's Apple's way of making it more difficult to sell to the "grey" market.
