Selling an ipod touch

I just bought an iphone 4. How do I ensure my ipod touch 3g will be usable when I sell it? Do I need to un-authorize it? Is there a way to un-register it from my name/computer? I have already removed all apps, wi-fi info, email accounts, and cleaned all internet history.

  • I am selling my ipod touch 3g

I am selling my ipod touch 3g, i have already reset everything to the original defaults which removed all my music etc, do i need to delete the serial/registration # from this ipod in my itunes account-if so how do i do this?  the new owner is saying that the ipod is locked and that i have to restore it from my computer to unlock it..

they are saying it says connect to itunes and is locked when they try to do that
Even if you had a passcode on the device, it would be removed along with everything else when you wiped the iPod.
One thing you can suggest to them is to place the device in Recovery Mode while connected to iTunes, and see if it will restore. Refer them to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Selling my Ipod touch to new user-can apps be left on without my apple id

I am selling my Ipod touch since I recently got an iphone. Can my apps and music be left on it? I am not going to give them my apple id (obviously) but was wondering if they could still access my apps and music?? Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?

    Hello tec367,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?
Yes. They wouldn't be able to listen to any purchased music you had on there unless you authorized your account on their iTunes library and that's just unnecessary. Restoring your iPod is just the right thing to do.

  • Selling my iPod Touch

I have just acquired my brand-new iPhone and as a result, my iPod Touch is somewhat redundant. I have found a buyer which will help pay for the iPhone. I want to reset it to get rid of all my mail settings, bookmarks, etc but if I do so will this a) wipe out the paid updates and b) all installed apps, free and otherwise? I want to give it to her with the updates at least intact.

    Hi,
There is no easy way around this, the updates and apps are tied to your iTunes account not the device. The Apps you will of course be able to reuse on your new iPhone and quite rightly you cannot give (or sell) copies of "purchased" apps to anyone else. The update is I've heard theoretically possible to pass on but frankly more bother to do so than it's worth.
Be nice and knock six quid off the price .

  • Selling an iPod touch 4th generation

Hey guys. Ok. Im really getting tired of people trying to rip me off for fixing my iPod. So, im trying to find a great place to sell my touch for at least $100. please help me. I dont have anymore options. also, i dont want to lose all my data from it. it must be transferred

To transfer to a newer device see:

  • HT1414 getting an ipod touch 5 and selling my ipod touch 4, will all my apps and notes be put into my new ipod that i'm getting?

Like will all my app information (like my secret diary) and especially all my notes that include lyrics and stuff be put onto my ipod touch 5?

So, before you get rid of your old device go to attach your device to itunes and go file-devices-backup.  Additionally you can go to settings-icloud-storage and backup and select back up now. When you have your new device you can "restore from backup".  If you're using itunes to set up your new device it will prompt you to restore it from your most recent backup.  iOS: How to back up

  • What to do before selling ipod touch

I'm selling my ipod touch for an iphone and need to make sure I don't send it with anything to do with me on there. Whats the best order for erasing all content? Also, will the amount of computers is authorised with go back to 5? I dont really want to leave the buyer with only 3 chances. Basically anything else I need to know before selling it. I'd really really appreciate it. thanks!

What you need to do is a clean restore, and make sure you don't restore to backup, restore it as new and then DON'T SYNC! Leave it, the new person who gets the iPod can authorise the iPod to his iTunes account.

  • Should I sell my iPod Touch 4th Gen.? If so, how much should I sell it for?

Hi, there! I'm new to this Apple Discussions page, so greetings to all. So I am thinking of selling my iPod Touch 4th Generation in order to buy the iPod Touch 5th Generation. My iPod has 16 gigabytes; I'm planning on getting the 5th Gen. 16gb as a replacement. Anyway, I have only had this iPod for a year, but I really want the newer device because of the iOS and other new features. It only has scratches on the back and doesn't have any cracks on the screen. How much do you think I should sell it for?
Oh, and if anyone has the iPod 5th Gen. 16gb, do you think it is worth considering selling my 4th Gen. for the newer iDevice?
BTW, I am not planning on selling it back to Apple or Amazon or anything of that sort because I want to sell it at a higher price. I'd sell it to a friend/family member/relative.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

I get that you are not planning on selling it online but you can utilize eBay to get an idea of what people are paying for those models. Just search for '4th gen iPod touch 16 GB', switch to 'Sold Listings' and see what recent listings have sold for.

  • I erased my 2nd gen ipod touch, can it be restored, apple shop are saying no , some parts can not be downloaded. is this correct

    Sorry new to all this.
I was re-selling my ipod touch 2nd generation so i erased all contents and setting ... was this correct ?
The new owner is telling me she cant get it to work. she has taken it into the apple store and they have told her that parts that were erased ca no longer be downloaded.
    Is this correct ?
Have i been an idiot ? lol

    That sounds correct.
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
See the following for more easily  finding compatible apps
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.

If you plan on selling your iPod touch, I would recommend restoring it via iTunes. This will wipe all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings. This way nobody will have any sort of access to your ID and such. However, it might not be a bad idea to change the password on your account as you should probably be doing periodically anyways for extra security.
And if you want to really go the extra mile, see this article about securely erasing your iPod Touch.

  • IPod Touch (5th Generation) cannot charge?

I just recently saw an ad on craigslist of someone selling an iPod Touch (5th Generation) for extremely cheap. The catch was the battery could not charge. Considering how cheap I got it, I figured it would be a simple battery replacement or such that I could find online and I would have a like-new iPod Touch. The only issue is I cannot find any solutions to this exact problem. Basically what has happened is, no matter where I plug-in this iPod, I only get the empty battery logo with the lighting bolt underneath. I have tried changing cords, and changing where it gets charge from, (my computer, wall charger, iPad charger) and it does the same thing. I have even tried leaving it charged for over 30-min+ and it still does not charge. I do not know the history of this iPod, but it seems as though I can see 2 very small dents on the back of the iPod. I have attempted all the basic diagnostics on this iPod
    The iPod is :
iPod Touch 5th Generation 32GB (Pink)
    Any feed-back is much appreciated.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one $149. They do not fix yours. The dents indicate abuse and thus voids the warranty.

  • IPod Touch Clearing before selling ???

    Hello,
I want to sell my iPod Touch (old revision) to my uncle (he really wants a Touch !) and I was wondering how to clear everything on the iPod (Songs, Videos, Podcasts and Address Book).
I guess it is possible through "Settings" and then "Clear Settings and Content", but I wonder if it also clears the address book and the Apps...
I want to give my uncle an iPod Touch looking like a "brand new one", without any "name" (my iPod is called "Fabrice's iPod" in iTunes).
The firmware has been upgraded to rev 2.1 (I bought the upgrade on iTunes Store); I hope it will stay with this revision.
    Any help welcome !
    Fabrice.

Restore it through iTunes. After it puts everything back to factory settings and it states it is going to put all the backup info back onto the iPod and it will state that the iPod icon will be in the menu again when it is completed, disconnect it. When you turn it on, it will have the "connect to iTunes" icon that it comes with when brand new out of the box. Make sure you don't disconnect it too early before it puts the software and firmware back onto the iPod. Even if you do make that mistake, it's fool proof. When you try to connect it to iTunes again, it will tell you that it detects an iPod in recovery mode and that you will have to continue the process before it works. It should retain the most recent version because it will detect by the serial number that the iPod has had the latest version purchased.

  • Selling iPod Touch

I am selling my iPod, so when it sells, what will I need to do to 'unregister' it from my apple account, and allow someone else to use it? Would they get 2.0? Or by them syncing it to their account, would it restore to factory making them have to purchase 2.0 again?
    Thanks!

LOl the moderators here are stingy! haha
One comment about for sale, and pmmmf, its gone!
Anyway, that comment will no doubt go soon too.
So is anything else required? The iPod has now sold on ebay, and I removed all media and reset everything, and manually deleted all apps. Anything else?
