Selling Current iPhone -- Help!

hi, i apologize in advance if any of these questions are stupid...
i wanna sell my current iphone (8gb) and get the new 3G one in july --
i dont use microsoft outlook or anything, but from what ive read, i think all of my pics/contacts/settings are saved on the SIM card correct?
if so, if i was to sell my current phone to my friend, how do i get the SIM card out and into the new iPhone.... and when i have it in the new iPhone, where would my friend go to get a SIM card for my old phone?
thanks, appreciate the help
-matt

Contacts, calendars, photos, etc on the iPhone are not stored on the SIM card. In order to preserve that information, you would need to sync with a computer. That sync would also create a backup of your phone's settings, so that when you activate your new phone, you can load the backup for your settings, then sync the new phone to add your contacts, calendars, and photos from your computer to the new phone.

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
    Click "Unregister".
If that doesn't work, you're going to need to call AppleCare and have them remove your phone from the system.
    Best of luck.

  • Help please.connected my current iphone to i tunes it syncd old contacts from previous job to new phone and deleted all my new ones,

    Help please.
Connected my current iphone to i tunes. it syncd old contacts from previous job and previous phone to new phone and deleted all my new ones. tried to do back up from earlier restore in i tunes but there only seem to be back ups from my old phone not the new one prior to its first sync...

thanks for your reply and input but, Im not sure if it was former or latter that I did, however I do know that I named this latest i phone differently and would have been OK with and expected expected old contacts to be added to the new ones I have recently added directly onto the new phone since I have had it rather than just the old one. I did try the undue/ unsync  but this just seemed to remove all the old backed up ones just added leaving contacts empty? Clearly its my error, but what can be done to restore setting back to time before I connected today?  earlier reset points on itunes show as 2 years ago and relate to old phone.

  • I don't have very much space left on my iCloud backup. I had a previous iPhone, my current iPhone and my iPad that are all connected to one cloud. Can I delete the backup from my previous iPhone? Will it delete in the cloud AND on the phone?

I had a previous iPhone, my current iPhone and my iPad that are all connected to one cloud. Can I delete the backup from my previous iPhone? Will it delete in the cloud AND on the phone? or does it just delete from iCloud? or does it just delete from the phone? Someone please help!

You can delete the backup without any problem. Only the backup will be deleted from iCloud and nothing else will be deleted, so you can do it without worrying about losing data on iCloud or your devices

  • How do I download the music from iTunes onto an old iPhone 3gs? I have reset the iPhone to factory settings and when I plug it in it wants to use the device name for my current iPhone 5 and I don't want to change anything on my old iPhone.

How do I download the music from iTunes onto an old iPhone 3gs without affecting my iPhone 5? I have reset the iPhone to factory settings and when I plug it in it wants to use the device name for my current iPhone 5 and I don't want to change anything on my current iPhone. iTunes won't let me change the device name for the 3gs. I just want to use the old iPhone like an touch.

    Hi littlemansa,
If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein. I have an article for you that can help you set up your iPhone as a new device, and that information can be found below:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4137
Basically, it seems like you may be stuck on a screen that is asking if you would like to restore your device from the backup that is filed under the name of your new iPhone, or if you would like to set up the device as a new device. I would suggest that you set it up as a new device to achieve your desired results.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Iphone HELP HELP HELP HELP needed!!!!!!

My current Iphone 3G is currently having issues. The home button does not respond in sleep mode and the lock button doesnt respond either. I attempted to sync it to itunes for a reset, however, itunes doesnt even recognize the phone. All I can see is when someone calls ( I can answer calls) or when someone texts ( I can respond to that text and see lists of texts. The problem is once in the text list Im unable to get to the home screen since the home button doesnt work. Any help is greatly appreciated

Sounds like a hardware issue, but try using RecBoot to put it into recovery mode and restore it. If it does the same after that, you need to get it serviced.

  • Security when selling an iPhone

    Hi,
I am selling my iPhone 4. What should I do before selling my iphone, what information all needs to be cleared? I'm aware there is a Factory Reset I can do, but will that keep all my information is secure and history secure? I've made purchases online and have a lot of information in there currently. And I'm not sure what the hackers of the world are capable of doing!
    Thanks!

Erase all contents and setting.  This is covered in the manual

  • I just lost my iphone4 but can't sync my contacts into my current iphone 3g.

I have connected the iphone4 before into iTunes, and is it right to say that once I connect my iphone into iTunes, it will sync and backup all information (including contacts) into the laptop?
When i connect the iphone3g that i have now into iTunes, contacts can't be retrieved back at all. The previous contacts that I have are not in Outlook either, as I did not setup Outlook at that point of time.
Another thing is that the iphone4 that I had lost was of a version 4.3.3, the current iphone 3Gs i have is of version 5. Is that a problem as well?
    Do help! Thanks!

Not right unless you have automatically sync when your iPhone is connected to iTunes and if not, you must manually select Sync. The iPhone's backup is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process, but you must manually select sync contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. If this is selected, contacts should be synced with the supported address book application on your computer when your iPhone is synced with iTunes.
When i connect the iphone3g that i have now into iTunes, contacts can't be retrieved back at all. The previous contacts that I have are not in Outlook either, as I did not setup Outlook at that point of time.
They will be retrieved one of two ways. By restoring your iPhone 3G with iTunes from the backup for your iPhone 4, or by syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer which apparently you have not been doing.

  • What steps to I have to take when selling my iPhone?

I am selling my iPhone 4S for the iPhone 5, and I want to make sure that all of my data is cleared from the 4S before the buyer uses it.  I see that there are a couple of options under setters to reset the phone, so what one do I choose to use?  Should that make the phone safe to sell, so that the new owner will not have any connections to my Apple ID?  Also, what do I do with the SIM card?  I know the iPhone 5 uses a new SIM, but on the 4S, do I take it out and keep it, or leave it in the phone when I sell it?

Step 1. Settings --> General --> Erase all Content and Settings
    Step 2. Remove SIM card
    Step 3. Sell it.

I just got a brand new laptop and I can't seem to put music onto my iPhone - help? I'd really rather not completely empty my iPhone in order to have it agree with this new laptop. How do I get them to talk to one another and let me put my music on my iPhone?

The iPhone will only Sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

  • If I buy a new iPhone 3GS on eBay, can I transfer the SIM card from my current iPhone 3GS into the new one and will it still work?

I have an 8GB iPhone 3GS on AT&T, and I wanted to purchase a 16GB version on eBay. Will I be able to just pop the SIM card out of the current iPhone 3GS into the new iPhone 3GS and have it work properly?

Yes, you will be able to use it provided that the 16GB version of 3GS is either factory unlocked or locked to AT&T network (in case of a carrier locked phone).
