Selling iMac with Lion Installed from the App Store

Hi Everyone,
I'll make this quick...
2008 iMac > purchased Lion as an upgrade via App Store > moved to Europe (where I am now) > decided I want to sell my iMac > I want to do a clean wipe and fresh install of Lion before I sell it.
My understanding is that the EULA doen't permit the OS to go with the sale. Is this true or did I missread what I found on the internet?
I don't have the disks that originally came with my iMac. I left them in the US when I moved here so a clean install of Snow Leopard is not an option. How do I prep my machine to sell it?
Thanks for your help.

You are correct - you have to remove Lion from your machine. Since you no longer have the install disks, there are two possibilities:
You can call Apple and give them your serial number - they will send you machine specific replacement disks, or......
you can purchase a Snow Leopard retail disk at an online reseller (or possibly a store) and use it.
You will need one of those.
Once you have it, insert it and boot from it (by holding the C key while restarting). Go past the language selection, up to Utilties, to Disk Utility and choose erase (use the secure erase so your data are not recoverable). Once the erase is done, it will install the system.
Removing Lion will also allow the buyer to purchase it - if you do not remove it, the buyer will not be able to update it because the purchase ID and machine ID do not match (unless you want to share your Apple ID with the buyer LOL).

Just just launch the Mac App Store, select the "Purchased" tab and download MainStage or any other application you already bought.

  • HT1349 cannot get lion to download and install from the app store

the lion os app took 2 days to down load then did not install from the app store.

Do you mean the install button stays on install, or do you notice a loading bar under your Launchpad icon?

  • Mountain Lion OS from the App Store

I purchased mountain lion os from the app store for my laptop but also want to upgrade my imac from lion to mountain lion. When I went to the mountain lion app to purchase it again for my desktop it did not give me the option to buy only to download. I thought we would have to purchases two copies of the OS for each device, is that incorrect?

The Terms of Use for Mac App Store software is that you may install it on as many Macs as you own or have in your control. That includes OS X.

  • IPhone 5; iOS 8.1.2: How do I remove a deleted App from Cloud storage so that I may do a fresh install from the App Store?

I Deleted a faulty App in order to do a fresh re-install from the App Store - but it keeps installing from Cloud storage and I don't know whether this is the original App.
How do I stop this happening?

An app cannot self install. If you are using the App Store app see the app listed with a cloud icon, it means that app was downloaded previously but it is no longer on your device. Tap the cloud icon to redownload the app.

  • Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

The App Store version of Aperture will never ask for a serial number so something got confused on your system. Did you ever have a non App Store version of Aperture installed? Did you download the trial version for some reason?
You can try moving Aperture from the Application folder to the desktop and then going to the App Store. Log in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase Aperture and you should be able to download it again.

  • Problems with iMovie downloaded from the App Store

I downloaded iMovie 11 from the App Store Yesterday. When I try to use it I get this message, "Missing QuickTime Component." "The QuickTime component necessary to view, edit, import and export MPEG2 movies is not installed." "It is included with the iMovie installed, Please re-install." I have tried to re-download it from the App Store and then get the message "Installed." I have searched the Apple site for information as to how to accomplish this to no avail. I have looked at the iMovie Help files all to no avail. Can anyone please tell me what to do to fix this. When installing from the App Store you do not seem to get a standard installer.
Thanks to anyone who can help fix this problem.
    Mike

When installing from the App Store you do not seem to get a standard installer.
    True.
I have found that the physical possession of the software on a DVD or CD is a better way to go.
In the event you have a computer problem and must rebuild your system or reinstall software, it is always easier to do so if you have the physical media in your possession.
I would spend a few dollars more and purchase the iLife 11 disc.

  • Hello guys i face a problem when i upgrade from iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 5.1.1  .when i upgrade i don' t found the camera app from the built in apps.when i try to install from the app store i don't  found the correct camera app .please help me .

hello guys i face a problem when i upgrade from iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 5.1.1 on ipad 3 .when i upgrade i don' t found the camera app from the built in apps.when i try to install from the app store i don't  found the correct camera app .please help me .please give any suitable link where i find the correct camera app

It's a built-in app, so it can't be deleted nor downloaded from the store. If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Camera being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Where did Lion Go from the app store?

Where did Lion Go from the app store?  it's gone.  I my MacBook Pro can't run Mountain Lion but it could run Lion.  But it's gone!

If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

You will need to do what it says, contact iTunes Support. These are user-to-user support forums, if you thought you were contacting Apple by posting here. Go here:

  • I just downloaded Mountain Lion yesterday from the App Store and it won't install. I stopped it when it wouldn't do anything all day and now how do i restart the installation process?

Uaually when you purchase something from the app store and it has downloaded, you see an install button. I found nothing of that nature. I have a late model 2009 mac mini with plenty of memory and plenty of disk space. What am I missing?

Never mind, I see it's Mountain Lion.
Can you check in your Applications Folder to see if the installer is still there. You are confused on some things, because the installer should be giving you a DOWNLOAD text on the purchases page, not install.

  • HT1338 installing Mt. lion update from the app store, FROZE

Got an update notice from the Apps Store for Mt. Lion update and a canon printer update. Clicked "Update" and everything was normal till a popup to "close Safari to continue the installation."  I closed Safari but the popup did not go away. The update bar says " running package scripts" but nothing has happened in the last hour. Tried to restart the computer but got "Your computer can NOT be restarted now because software is being installed." How do I get out of this mess ?

Open  > Force Quit and quit App Store. Then, restart Mountain Lion and update to the most recent version

  • If I buy Lion now (from the App store) will I get a free Mountain Lion upgrade?

I haven't been able to find any definitive documentation on this. I have a MBP and Mac Pro at work and haven't upgraded either of them to Lion for various reasons. However, I have now been tasked with some App programming and need Lion. So, my question is - If we buy Lion from the App Store will we get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks everyone!

Mountain Lion will be upgradable from Snow Leopard, so if you have not yet purchased Lion then it may be worth it to just wait and not go through two upgrades.

  • Unable to purchase "The Lions Roar" from the app store and 3 others...

Ok, so I seem to have an odd issue. Sorry if there is another thread about this but a search didn't flag anything up.
When I purchase from the app store I get the above message come up but I select ok and continue without issue. This is I've never had any issues where an app wasn't downloaded properly and "the lions roar" isn't even in the app store?
I have tried to resync with iTunes, no luck. I've tried to sign out and sign back in but no luck.
    Its getting really annoying now.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Sean

Loads of people are getting this.  "The Lion's Roar" appears to be music rather than an app. I get the same thing with an album I downloaded and my message also refers to "2 other items" (the "2 other items" thing seems to be a constant!).  The message seems to refer to a past music download but can appear whether it is apps or media you are downloading.
It is clearly an iTunes glitch which I have decided to live with rather than waste hours trying to rectify, especially as at it may well be a problem at Apple's end anyway.

  • I purchased Mountain Lion online from the App store but it won't download

I purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store, and after 2 days it still hasn't downloaded. The download appears to have frozen.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, restart your Mac and resume the download. To resume the download, open App Store > Purchases, and press the Resume button next to OS X Mountain Lion.
If it doesn't work, open Finder, go to Applications folder and delete the OS X Mountain Lion installer. Then, open App Store > Purchases, and download Mountain Lion again
