Selling iphone 3g

Hi guys!
A small question: I'm about to sell my iPhone 3G (as I have a 4S now) and I was wondering about the following:
If I go into the menu and put it into erase all settings mode all data is gone so it's safe to sell, but the buyer wants me to activate the device for him.
That's no issue at all for me of course. Just put in the sim card, and connect it to itunes, select "setup as new iPhone" and put it on manual sync...
I'm wondering now: if I do that I assume no personal data should be synced on the phone, but will it be linked to my Apple ID somehow? I can't find anything on the device about that and the store asks me to enter my ID if I try that, so I don't think so but just to be sure...
Thanks for helping!

SIM cards are associted with a specific user as well as the carrier. You would be foolish to give him your SIM even if prepaid. He will have your old telephone number.  Anything illegal done with that phone, the police will come looking for YOU.
Unless you activate and set it up using HIS Apple ID and iTunes account, it will be set up under YOUR ID, not something you want.  There is no good reason why you should activate it for him.

  • If I wanted to exchange my iPhone 5 for the new iPhone 6 (no additional cost after $199 gift card from selling iPhone 5) do I have to pre-order online or do I just have to show up at a Verizon store Sept 19th?

If I wanted to exchange my iPhone 5 for the new iPhone 6 (no additional cost after $199 gift card from selling iPhone 5) can I pre-order online now or do I just have to show up at a Verizon store Sept 19th?

scodaddy, that is a wonderful question. We are super excited about the new iPhone. You can always pre-order your new iPhone online and then start the mail in rebate by following this link: http://bit.ly/GGnDDC Or you can always go into the store location and do it all in store on the 19th when the phone is launched. That would depend on if the store has them in stock when you go in. I hope that this was able to address your concern.

does anyone know if the apple store in orlando are selling iphone directly?

There's no reason they wouldn't be selling it, unless they ran out of stock. After all, people are lined up outside the stores for every new iPhone model.

"1. Is it truly 100% unlocked?"
As compared to 87% unlocked? What do you mean?
"2. Can I upgrade to a later OS if I bring it to the US?"
Yes, you can upgrade to a newer version of the OS.

  • Now that Apple is selling iphone unlocked, what about those ho bought locked ?

Now that Apple is selling iphone unlocked, what about those ho bought locked ?
Can i unlocked my iphone now ?

AT&T have not announced any change to their no-unlocking policy. Only AT&T could authorize the phone to be unlocked.
The fact that Apple now sells (independently of AT&T) unlocked GSM iPhones does not change this.

  • Question re SIM card - selling iphone

Have canceled AT&T contract and am selling 3Gs. Should I remove SIM card before selling or does it even matter?
    Thanks.

Your iPhone does not store data to the SIM card to my knowledge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the SIM (in the iPhone's case) carries exclusively the information related to the carrier...not any contacts, documents or images.
Best practice though, remove the SIM. Keep it or destroy it. The user will purchase the phone and need their own SIM to activate it as their own phone.

  • Thinking about selling Iphone 5 for new WIndows Phone

So I am a new Iphone 5 user. Went from a Motorola Droid to an Apple product. I must say I like the Iphone 5, but I like the new windows phone. I have even thought about selling my Iphone 5 to get the Windows phone. ANyone have any thoughts about the windows phones compared the the Iphone 5?

As a past user of an iPhone 4 and a Windows Phone 7.5 device, I would say that the user experiences are similar, with the exception of far fewer apps being available for Windows Phone.  However, there are several apps available and I could find a livable level of satisfaction with the app selection.  There are fewer accessories available for any Windows Phone device (or any other phone, for that matter) than for the iPhone.  One thing that I think that has changed for Windows Phone 8 is that users will no longer sync through Zune on the PC.  I'm not up-to-speed with this part, so if this is important to you, you might want to research this further.
The other thing that may impact your user experience would be how integrated into Apple's ecosystem you are.  Even though you said that you just got the iPhone 5, I don't know if you are an iPad or iPod user that relied on iTunes for content management.  Your other ecosystem concerns would include whether or not you use iCloud for media storage and whether or not your friends send you text messages in iMessage.  If none of these things are big deals for you, then a switch to a different mobile OS may be fine.
Your other differences are your hardware differences.  You didn't name a specific Windows Phone device, but I think that every Windows Phone that is coming out is larger than an iPhone 5.  Were you attracted to the thin and light profile of the iPhone 5, or did you think that the screen was too small?  The cameras on the iPhone 5 and the upcoming Windows Phone devices are said to rival each other, so that probably won't be a major consideration for you.
There are many other things to consider, but hopefully my questions will remind you of what you consider to be important, and you can go from there.  I always recommend hands-on time with a new device that you are considering, so go to stores to try out Windows Phone devices to get more of a feel for them.

  • Serial Number Deactivation Required/Possible when Selling iPhone?

I'm selling my iPhone to my roommate. Do I need to deactivate the serial number before he can use? Can I deactivate? If so, how? Thanks!

Correct, take your SIM out before giving him phone. From there once he puts a new SIM of his in then the phone will consider itself new and use info from the SIM he put in.
You may want to at least reset all settings (somewhere in settings menu) to clear everything off before taking your SIM out. Not a big deal as once he syncs all will be erased but it will at least also reset all phone settings to default for him to decide what he wants to do.

  • Selling iPhone 5 - What to erase?

    Hi,
I am upgrading to an iPhone 6 tomorrow and will be selling my current iPhone 5 (with iOS 7). The recycling company I am selling to state that I need to delete my iCloud account by doing the following:
    Device must be switched on
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account
    Enter your Apple ID password
    Then select ‘Turn Off’
However, Apple's website states that if I am selling the phone all I need to do is use the Erase All Content and Settings feature. Can I do both i.e. delete account then delete all settings? Or is there a specific order I should do this?
Can anyone help with this? If I don't do this correctly payment will be delayed from the company I am selling to.
    Thanks in advance.

I will be doing the same actually.
You definitely want to do the Erase All settings Last otherwise you will have no way to Delete the iCloud account off your phone. Not sure that deleting your  iCloud account off the phone is necessary. But I have read that "Having Find My iPhone activated can sometimes block activation by a new owner, so you'll need to deactivate it before you ditch your device. Go to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone and slide it to off."
Also it is recommended to turn off iMessage. Go to Settings > Messages
Then do the Erase All Settings  and then remove your SIM card if your iPhone has one.

  • Selling iPhone 2G, upgrading to 3G, steps to take?

    Hello all,
I am selling my iPhone 2G and upgrading to a 3G this week, and wanted to make sure I knew the proper steps to take before doing so. I know that I will need to restore the 2G for the new owner. What I'm curious about though, is how do I make sure I can get all of the information, apps, contacts etc. into my 3G? Thanks in advance for all of the help!

Sync your iPhone with iTunes, and also select iTunes > File menu > Transfer Purchases From... to move anything bought on the phone into iTunes. With the old phone, before you sell it, select Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings (that clears out the data on the phone, with a secure wipe assuming you are running v2.x), and remove the SIM card.
When you get your new phone, you'll have the option to set it up from the Backup of the old phone - do that. The only thing that does not transfer over are the passwords (network and voicemail - so you'll need to set those up again).

  • Selling iPhone - w/sim card?

I'm selling my iPhone 4 and am clear on how to wipe the phone and reset.  But what about the sim card?  Is that something personal, linked to my AT&T account or just generic, allowing access to the AT&T net?

    Inacurate response:
Either you do the unlock work and perform a restore on your iphone with your SIM card in from your end before shipping, the  remove it before shipping,
OR you ship it with your SIM card to let the buyer perform it (...happened to me twice)
    Process to unlock your iphone:
start with a request an unlock to your carrier (i.e. AT&T here - not for Verizon this requires the account holder to perform it with account still active),
    1.Request AT&T unlock online at: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/termsAndCondition
    2.Check your status at: https://www.att.com/deviceunlockstatus/client/en_US/deviceunlockstatus_action
    3. Perform the restore as indicated below and then see a confirmation screen from Apple ITune when performing the restore.
Completing Your Authorized ATT Mobile Device Unlock
Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your AT&T Mobile device.
We have reviewed your request and confirmed that the device may be unlocked.
    1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
    2. Ensure the original SIM card that came with this device is inserted in your iPhone.
    3. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
    4. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
    5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

  • Selling IPhone 3GS...SIM card questions

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I bought my mother an iPad and, for her needs, it really replaces her iphone 3gs so I bought her a simple cell phone to replace the iphone so she can just make calls from it. This simple cell phone came with a new sim card in it. I was planning on selling my mother's iphone 3gs on ebay with her old sim card in it. I erased all content and settings on this iphone so is it okay to sell the iphone with her old sim card in it or should I remove it? In the past, I have sold my old erased iphones with the sim card still in it and now I don't know if that was a mistake. Is there personal info on the sim card that somebody can access even after the iphone was erased? Thanks much.

As when data is erased from a hard drive, if not securely erased the erased data can be recovered by a data recovery utility.
The chances of someone going to that trouble with a SIM card and there isn't much they could do with it anyway if the data was obtained, why take the chance. It isn't your responsibility to include your no longer activated SIM card with a phone that you sell for someone who is interested in using the iPhone in a way that is not designed or intended. The iPhone is designed to be used as a phone - to be activated, and whoever purchases your iPhone will need to get a new SIM card from AT&T or use their existing AT&T SIM card from another phone if they are an existing AT&T subscriber in order to activate the iPhone with their line/number with AT&T as designed and intended.
More than likely no harm done or no need to worry if you include your SIM card but why have any concern about it whatsoever?
    To each his/her own.

  • Selling iPhone with Apple Care Protection Plan, Transfer required?

I am selling my old iPhone 3Gs (just upgraded to the 4s : D ) and it has two months of Apple Care Protection Plan left on it. I was wondering if it was necessary to transfer ownership of Apple Care Plan. The reason I ask is I cannot find my original receipt for the iPhone, nor the Apple Care paperwork, though I do have the original box with UPC.
I have heard people say that the Apple Care Plan follows the phone and not the owner, therefore the new owner would have no trouble getting service on this phone. However, when I tried to request service (just to see if he could do it) it asked me to log in with an Apple ID. I am wondering if the new owner entered his ID, could he request service? Or would it have to be my Apple ID?
    So I have two Questions:
    1) Do I really need to transfer the plan over to the new owner for him to be able to get service?
    2) Do you think apple would even transfer the plan without the Apple Care documentation, or the original iPhone purchase reciept?
Thanks in advance for the help
    -Vorsicht!!

    See
Is the AppleCare Protection Plan transferable? = Yes.
