Selling my G5 - how do I install (or not ) OSX

I am selling my G5 - I got a new MacBook pro and need only 1 computer.
I've erased and zero-ed out the hard drives. I am giving buyer the OSX dvd but am wondering if I should install it. If I don't install it -- how do I get the dvd out of drawer?
The only reason I ask is because I installed the OS but then I needed to fill in all the profile info (plus password) and didn't want to enter my own info and couldn't leave it blank.
Thanks for any suggestions.

After the install, use Command-Q and it will bypass the registration.

If you have a Mid 2010 model: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If later then see below:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you have an earlier model:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD as far as I know.

I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD with OSX Lion as far as I know.

Ideally, you should clone your HD as Bimmer 7 Series explains.
However, if your computer originally shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, a clone is not necessary to merely reinstall OS X. OS X Internet Recovery will create a recovery partition, download the installer package, and install it on a completely empty SSD or HD.
Even if your computer shipped with Snow Leopard, it may be eligible to download a firmware update that creates the same ability: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904

  • How do I install external (not on the appStore) apps in .mobi, on my ipad?

How do I install external (not on the appStore) apps in .mobi, on my ipad?

You don't.  There is no supported way to install external Apps. You can only install Apps from the App Store.
Attempting to install non supported Apps, may void your warranty and forfeit support from Apple and by extension these forums.

  • How do I install apps not approved by apple on iphone 4s?

I mean how do I install apps like grooveshark, openvpn, my3g, etc. Today there's no jailbreak for iphone 4s, but I need a way to get the apps I used to use. I don't why apple don't accept certain kinds of apps. The users have the right to install whatever they want on their devices, even another music store different than itunes.

You have a perfect legal right to do so ... But Apple has a legal right to deny warranty coverage and support to you if you do it. :-) as you said, you'll have to wait ...

  • How do I install "one note clipper".

I've tried to install one note clipper to my foxfire. First, I don't have a favorites toolbar to add it. Also one note clipper tool does not appear on my add-in list.

If this - https://www.onenote.com/clipper/onenote - is what you are talking about, that is not an extension to "install". It's is a '''bookmarklet''' that needs to be saved to your bookmarks.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet
Right-click an empty place on one of the "bars" ''(toolbar or tabbar)'' and click on '''Bookmarks Toolbar''' so it is check-marked and appears below the Navigation Toolbar.
Then click&hold that bookmarklet, and drag it to the Bookmarks Toolbar - release the mouse button to save it.

    Jamesandmacbooks,
if by “free” you mean “gratis” (as opposed to, say, “open source”), then there’s only one version of OS X to date that’s gratis, namely Mavericks. You can only download Mavericks if you currently have Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later installed. If you’re still running Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.something) on your 2008 MacBook Pro, then you’ll need to first purchase the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, install it on your MacBook Pro, and run Software Update to get it to 10.6.8, after which you can download Mavericks gratis from the Mac App Store and install that. Be sure that your MacBook Pro meets all of Mavericks’ system requirements before trying to install it. If you currently run any PowerPC apps, note that they won’t be supported in any version of OS X after Snow Leopard.

  • Just purchased a iMac a few hours ago, how do I install the free OSX Lion from the UK?

I'm just starting to get used to my new Mac I just purchased, these things are brilliant! I was told by the seller that since I have a new system I'm allowed to download OSX Lion for free, how would I go about that if I'm from the UK? I can only seem to find the US Link.
Please note, that the UK Link is different to the USA link,
    Cheers,
    Will.

OS X Lion - Get up to date

  • I have aperture 3 on Disc how do i install on MBP (OSx Mavericks)

Hi all, I have downloaded a trial version and started by putting in my Serial number frm origional disc.....all this worked fine, however now it wont open because apeture 3 is not compatable with OSx mav, the app is not on the desktop and is greyed out in the application list.
    please advise
    Regards Philip

    Philip,
if you are running Mavericks you first have to update Aperture to version 3.5.
You should see the update at the AppStore in the Updates pane.
If it is not showing, try to update first by running Software update from the -menu in the upper left corner of your main menu bar.  If no updates are shown, download the last update from the support page:
    Aperture 3.4.5
and install that. Then try update again at the App Store.
For the update to show at the AppStore, you must be signed in with your AppleID and Aperture must be installed in the Applications folder and simply called "Aperture", not "Aperture Trial" or something.

  • How can I install FCP7 on OSX 10.8.5 if I've already installed FCPX?

I tried to install FCP7 on my new 30 inch iMac,3.2 ghz intel core i5 running 10.8.5 and it won't allow me to intall FCP7?
Any way to go back to the old FCP7?
    Thanks

Use this free tool: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/ to remove FCPX.
Install FCP7 and run all updates.
Download FCPX again at no cost -the App Store knows that you already paid for it.

  • How do I install LP9-- not available in the app store.

I purchased LPX when it was released and haven't had too many problems. However, I just recently bought an Axiom 49 midi controller and, although the installation instructions, m-audio support, and many other sources have said I don't need extra driver software or new bundles, the controller does not connect with my software. I have the lastest update of Mac OSX (10.9.2 beta) so, I know that is not the issue.
It seems that my biggest issue here is not having LP9. Most people have reccomended that you move the sound bundle from 9 to the midi device plug-ins, to lpX. I cannot download lp9 from the app store as it is no longer being sold, and I am not sure what else I would be able to do at this point. Any help is much appreciated!!

You can't get L9 anymore. However, you need a new version of the M-Audio software, because it seems to install in the wrong place.

  • How can I install PS5 ( not CS5) On an old computer.

It will not install because it is looking for a prior PS. This is an older computer and I need PS5 to run Kai's power tools.

What operating system are you trying to install ps 5 on?
It sounds like you have an upgrade version of ps 5.
If you input the serial number of your older version of photoshop (the version that you upgraded from) that should work.
What version of kai's power tools (KPT)?

  • How do I install memory into the Pavilion 17z-F2 series laptops?

How do I install memory into the Pavilion 17z-F (17z-F200, product L2H13AV) series laptops?
HP appears to have no maintenance guide available for this model series. What's up with that?
Please, do not offer the generic (and out-of-date) Pavilion 17 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. It does not appear to apply to the 17z-F series. This guide instructs to remove the bottom service panel which I could have figured that out on my own. However, the 17z-F series does not appear to have any removable panels at all. I took an up-close look at the Pavilion 17z-F100. And, it does not have any removable panels on the underside, except for the battery. So, I presume the 17z-F200 to be the same.
I am a computer technician. And, this is the first laptop I have seen without any service panels. I am probably going to have to disassemble the entire outer-shell to install memory (or to replace the hard disk drive once the time comes). But, every laptop I have worked on in the past had its own special array of hidden screws or special tricks for disassembly. So, having a maintenance guide is a necessity to avoid damaging plastic mounts, clips, guides, etc.
    This question was solved.

    How about this one:
    Pavilion 17z Manual
Don't get me started on this. It's one of my pet peeves, too. HP is not the only one doing this. Acer and Toshiba, etc. also are selling "closed" systems now. I hate it. I will absolutely never knowingly buy one but I am spending a lot of time here answering questions just like this. Good luck and let us know how you do. Sounds like you will be fine.

Just brought home newly purchased MacBook Pro 15"/Maverick/Retinal Display. To my astonishment, there is NO DVD slot! No one in the store told me about this missing feature. Intolerable, How does one install software? Insert CDs to copy for iTunes?Do I have to purchase an external DVD drive? Is one even available? What a crock!

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 -  (2) G4 Powerbooks,  A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.
