Selling my Ipod touch to new user-can apps be left on without my apple id

I am selling my Ipod touch since I recently got an iphone. Can my apps and music be left on it? I am not going to give them my apple id (obviously) but was wondering if they could still access my apps and music?? Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?

Hello tec367,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?
Yes. They wouldn't be able to listen to any purchased music you had on there unless you authorized your account on their iTunes library and that's just unnecessary. Restoring your iPod is just the right thing to do.

You can transfer Itunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can transfer other stuff with the info provided in this previous discussion:
    Best iPod to PC
You can also redownload apps at no additional cost:

Once you get the stuff in the iTunes library of you new computer let iTunes erase your iPod and replace its contents with what is now in your iTunes library.

  • HT1414 getting an ipod touch 5 and selling my ipod touch 4, will all my apps and notes be put into my new ipod that i'm getting?

Like will all my app information (like my secret diary) and especially all my notes that include lyrics and stuff be put onto my ipod touch 5?

So, before you get rid of your old device go to attach your device to itunes and go file-devices-backup.  Additionally you can go to settings-icloud-storage and backup and select back up now. When you have your new device you can "restore from backup".  If you're using itunes to set up your new device it will prompt you to restore it from your most recent backup.  iOS: How to back up

  • Transfer iPod Touch to new user

How do I transfer my iPod Touch to someone else and then register my new one with Apple and my iTunes account?
    Thanks

    Hello prolich,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Simply restore the iPod via iTunes and then give it away. This process will wipe all the content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings.

For the new one, plug it in, register it, and be on your way!

  • Syncing iPod Touch to new computer, preserving app data

I have a 2G iPod Touch that I'm currently syncing with iTunes 10.4 on my G5 tower. I have a MacBook Pro that I currently sync my iPad 2 with. I'd like to start syncing my iPod with my MacBook, without losing all my app data.
When I connect my iPod to the MacBook, it gives me the "This iPod is already synced with another iTunes library" and offers to wipe it. The music and apps themselves I already have on the MacBook, so it doesn't matter, but I don't want to lose all my app data.
I've moved the iPod backup from ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync on my G5 to the same place on my MacBook. It still won't sync. I can restore from this backup, but it still has the same problem. I've found information on how to change my iTunes library ID to match my old computer, but if I do that then my iPad will stop syncing!
I've been banging my head against the wall for hours now, with no progress. Is there any way to accomplish this? I'm running out of ideas... the last thing i can think of would be somehow editing the library ID in the ipod backup to match the MacBook's, but I haven't found any way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I already have all my music and apps and playlists from the old computer on the new one. However, the library ID is different from the old one, which means the iPod won't sync with it. I can't change the library ID in iTunes, because I'm already syncing my iPad with it; if I changed it to match the G5's library ID, the iPod would sync, but the iPad would stop syncing.
I copied the iPod backup from the G5 over to the MacBook, in the hopes restoring from that would somehow help; it doesn't. Once restored, the iPod still remembers the old library ID, so won't sync with the MacBook.

How can i backup my iPod Touch 4g and save my apps onto a new hard drive without having to save onto the current hard drive first?
My current hard drive is filled up and i'm going to buy a new, bigger hard drive. How can i change the save and backup destination for iTunes so i can backup and transfer my purchases(apps) onto the new hard drive? Without having to backup and save my apps onto the current hard drive because there's no space left on it. Thanks!

  • Can't sync playlists from ipod touch to new computer

Can't Sync Playlists from iPod Touch to New Library
I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1.  Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method.  All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over.  After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen.  The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library.  I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck.  Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out.  When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it.  I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items.  Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists?  Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple?  Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library.  I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.
    Thanks very much --

I have an IPod touch 2nd gen. Can I upgrade to a higher gen w/o buying another IPod touch? I have an iPhone4 which I love but don't want to get rid of the IPod touch.

No but they usually have one every year. If I had know Id get a free ipod 2 years ago when I bought mine if I got a macbook I wouldve ditched the PC and purchased a macbook and got an ipod as well, it was more of a sarcastic remark and heads up for future possible promotions that seem to be routine, than an actual statement.
PS: if your looking to upgrade and dont know what to do with your old one Id recommend recycle program apple has- 10%off purchase of a new one when you recycle old ipod touch with apple.

  • I am selling my ipod touch 3g

I am selling my ipod touch 3g, i have already reset everything to the original defaults which removed all my music etc, do i need to delete the serial/registration # from this ipod in my itunes account-if so how do i do this?  the new owner is saying that the ipod is locked and that i have to restore it from my computer to unlock it..

they are saying it says connect to itunes and is locked when they try to do that
Even if you had a passcode on the device, it would be removed along with everything else when you wiped the iPod.
One thing you can suggest to them is to place the device in Recovery Mode while connected to iTunes, and see if it will restore. Refer them to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

i have an ipod touch second gen, how can i download the facebook app if it says its not compatable with my current iOS?
i had the facebook app but i could never upgrade it and i was ok with using the outdated version but when i reset the ipod so i could gift it to a friend it obviously got rid of the app and now i cant downloaded because it says its not compatable, how can i download the version i had before i reset it?

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
