Selling my macbook, buying a new one. What do I do with my iPhone?

I'm selling my macbook. I already bought a new MacBook Pro. The problem is that I don't know what to do with my iPhone account. How can I move my music, photos, apps, and contacts to my MBP?
Is there any possible way to do all this?

Apps are stored in the iTunes library, and Contacts in the Contacts database, which is in the folder for your userID. I made one error in my previous message; what you need to copy is your userID folder, not Documents. (Documents is a subfolder in the userID folder).
If you copy the folder with the name of your user ID you will preserve everything. The easiest way to do this is to connect both computers to the same network, then set the old computer's folder to Shared.
But again, the easiest way is to use Apple's migration software, described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3231

  • My laptop recently broke and I had to buy a new one. How do I sync my iphone 4 with the new laptop without losing all data?

    Hi there,
Well the title says it all really.
I have to sync my iphone 4 with my new laptop as the old one broke. How do I do this without losing all my pictures, music, contacts & things purchased form the itunes store?
It seems really silly that everything gets wiped off the phone when using a different laptop. This problem must happen quite often as I am sure I am not the only person who has had a pc that has broken.
I hope you someone can help. All the stuff on my phone is important to me.
    Many thanks

  • I have Numbers 2.3 installed on my IMac and have created several spreadsheets when I try to open the latest one I get a message "You need a newer version to open this spreadsheet. Do have to buy the new one and will it work with my OS - 10.8.5?

Do I have to purchase the new Numbers to replace my version 2.3 in order to open spreadsheets already created? Will the new version work with my OS  -  10.8.5?

If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

  • My iPhone 4 broke so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up the old one on iTunes and when I went to restore the new one it won't allow me to because it is saying that I have the wrong password.  I tried changing the password and it still won't work. HELP!

My iPhone 4 screen shattered so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up my shattered iPhone to iTunes so that I could restore my new one.  When I went to restore it, it said that I had an incorrect password although I know it was right.  I tried changing the password and it still told me that I had an incorrect password.  So now my new phone has lost all its pictures, its music, its apps.... is there anything I can do to get my phone to restore?? PLEASE HELP!

If you can't get the password correct, you CANNOT restore from that backup.
However, if you've been using your phone as recommended by Apple, there should be minimal data loss.
Your iTunes library is on your computer, so you can synch all your apps, music, movies, ringtones, etc, on to your new phone.
Similarly, contacts should be synched to Address Book, Outlook, or a cloud service for you to easily synch back to your new phone.
Pictures taken from your old phone and not synched to your computer are lost, but you would have been synching those photos to your computer frequently as recommended.  Other photos that you synch TO your iPhone are still on your computer.
You won't be able to get text messages back.

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

Lion will run on most Intel machines. It will not run on the following machines:
MacBook Pro (sold before October 2006)
    MacBook (sold before November 2006)
Mac Mini (sold before August 2007)
    iMac (sold before September 2006)
It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo (or later CPU). Those machines listed above were all Intel Core Duo machines and with the exception of one of the Mac Minis, an Intel Core Solo. So we're talking 4+ year old machines. I have not tested Lion on a machine with anything less than 2GB of RAM.
Wikipedia has a pretty good public summation of what's known so far and it's quite accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion
The biggest thing of note so far is that you cannot install/run Rosetta. Which maybe problematic for some users.

There is no way around the activation lock. You apparently decided to use the phone with someone else's ID set up for an iCloud (and find my iPhone) account before updating. Since Find My iPhone was active, updating to iOS 7 has automatically turned on the activation lock. If you do not have the Apple ID and password that were previously used, then the phone is now useless. You can't activate it without that informaion.
Talk to whoever you bought the phone from if you can. If you can't, buy a new phone.

  • I have a 2009 vintage MacBook Air.  Ever since i downloaded Mavericks the performance has slowed considerably.  Is there anything to do short of buying a new one?

I have a 2009 vintage MacBook Air.  Ever since I installed maverik the speed to do anything has decreased significantly.  After the 30 minutes of use it gets better, but still intemitently takes a time out for for a minute or more.  Any solution other than buying a new one?  Thanks

2GB RAM is quite inadeqiate for OS X Mavericks to run efficiently.
It is better to have a new computer.

Do you have the iCloud set up?  If you don't you need to buy a third party software that will do it for you when you plug your phone into the new computer.  You can google: iPad/iPhone/iPod to Computer Transfer.  You have to pay for the software but it's really a life saver and you get free updates for life.  It'll save you a lot of pain and suffering in the future.  I've used it many times.

  • I want to buy a new macbook pro 2012, can i sell my old macbook and put some more money to buy the new one???

I want to buy a new macbook pro 2012 with retina display, can i sell my old macbook and add some more money to buy the new one???
Is there any deal like this?

Apple has a rebuy and recycle program, but you won't get much for your old MBP from that program. Your best bet is to just sell it yourself (I used eBay) and use the money you get to buy your new computer.
    Good luck,

And yes, you need LOTS of Internet to get the latest cat. The installer file is just 4.5GB in size, so on most internet connections it will take awhile to download. Once that happens, you will have a choice to install it on top of your existing Lion partition, or onto a different one, that can even be a totally blank one.
Since you probably don't want to redo the wait, be sure to quit the installer as soon as it finishes downloading and starts up automatically. Then save the installer (called "Install OS X Mountain Lion", and found in your Applications folder) onto another disk before going thru with the installation. When it concludes, it will erase itself.

Just open System Preferences>Users & Groups and unlock the preference pane with your root password.
Set the New Account to be an Administrator and fill in the rest of the data and then click "Create User".
I would suggest using this user to be YOU with admin capabilities. I wouldn't use the root user - too much damage could occur if you're not sure what you're doing. If you have files, etc., that you want to move to this account, simply but them in the Shared folder - or if you 'rescued' some old files and the like from your 'trashed' MBP, you can put them in your NEW admin account folders.
Hope I've explained myself well - call back with any questions!
