Selling Old iMac, Don't Have Original Discs
I'm selling my old early-2008 24" iMac and have erased the hard drive. Unfortunately, I do not have the original installation discs that came with the machine. I bought it second-hand from someone, who himself purchased it second-hand. Somewhere along the way the original discs didn't make their way to me.
The machine was loaded with Leopard and I upgraded it to Snow Leopard a couple years ago, but I only have the Install disc for Snow Leopard, not the Applications disc, since I purchased it as an upgrade.
I want to install Snow Leopard on it for the new buyer, but not sure exactly what I need.
Any help would be most appreciated!
- Bob
Thanks Paul - I just called Apple and unfortunately they don't sell Leopard replacement discs but the tech support person I spoke with assured me that Snow Leopard will work. So I ordered a set for $20, should be here in a few days. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again!

I am not sure that I deleted Iphoto, but Iphoto desapeared. I don't have original disc. Can you, please help me , to find it somewhere on my mac?
The iPhoto application should be in your applications folder
If you have removed it and your computer came with restore disks then you will need them to reinstall. Or you can purchase a version on DVD or from the App Store. Apple my be able to reace missing restore disks for a nominal charge

How to erase a Mac Pro for selling when you don't have the discs
I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I'd like to sell, so I need to remove all information from the HD, BUT none of the disc I have seem to work to install from.
I have several Macs and so have a lot of discs.....but none of them will work when I restart holding down C, or Command + R.
I have gone to Disc Utility and can't select the HD to erase, because it seems to be greyed out.
I have on original discs:
10.0
10.4
10.4.7
10.5
10.5.6
10.6.3
all discs I either got with Mac's or purchased...!
What's the solution?
All I want is to be able to sell the machine with some working OS on it?
Thanks,
Alan,Thanks Grant
The 10.6.3 disc would be the best. You will need a wired keyboard plugged directly into a USB port on the chassis, not on a display or any Hub.
I am using wired kb.
If you hold down Alt/Option key at Startup, that should invoke the Startup Manager, and slowly draw an icon for each potentially bootable Volume. Choose the one you want and tell it to proceed.
So, right after I hear the chime, I should hold down "option"? How long should this take? A few times the computer seemed to freeze when doing this, and I just held down the power button for 10 sec to start over (I had a grey screen for a few minutes)...other times, it seems to just bypass the whole option and just restart normally?
Answer only the "what language" question and do not install. Wait for the menuBar to be drawn, then choose Disk Utility off a menu.
Appreciate any other suggestions you may have, thanks,
Alan. -
I have a 2006 iMac that I've upgraded to each new os as they came out. I just wiped it (for the kids to use, I have a new iMac with Mavericks) and reintalled Tiger from the original discs. I want to get it back to Lion - which I purchased from the Mac App Store. But Tiger doesn't have the App Store and I don't have the discs anymore from the intermediate versions. I tried downloading Lion from the new iMac but it's not available...
Any ideas? To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

I got halfway through a restore and realized I don't have install disc 2.
I thought it was a one disc deal when I started, but it's asking for install disc 2 and I realized it's install disc 2 for another computer/OS version. I just bought a new Mac Pro and decided to restore the old one to factory settings and then upgrade the OS to Leopard. I already wiped the HD and got through the first installation CD. What are my options at this point? I can't get out of the installer, and I don't have a disc 2 to give it. I thought disc 2 was iLife stuff which I would be fine with buying separately, or even doing without since it's just going to go from my work computer to a family computer. Is there somewhere I can buy disc 2? What would happen if I restarted right now? Would it work? I'm feeling rather stupid for getting myself into this mess.
ThanksYou can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource: International Support Phone #s. -
I just bought a new macbook, and am trying to transfer data from my old imac. I have connected the two with a firewire, and how do I now transfer the data?
Thanks in advance.
JoelYou can connect them in Target Mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 and then drag and drop from the iMac to the MacBook.

When I try to play videos on Apple's website, "missing plug-ins" appears. The same happens when I try to play Apple trailers. Other "users" on the same iMac don't have this problem.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Your solution worked straight away. I've been battling with this for weeks'

Trying to run my older Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows 7. Have original disc and S/N. Won't run...
I was able to install the program on my computer. (Only glitch was that it asked for a .dll file for Vista which I'm not running.
I was able to activate the program ok. When I try to convert any MS Office document to .pdf, it appears to start the process but just doesn't actually produce a .pdf file. No error message or anything... -
My daughter tried to upgrade her ipad, received as a gift from last year, with ios 7 last Saturday a.m.; since then she couldn't turn it on. I tried to follow your steps to recover it but wouldn't work(& I don't have recovery disc available). What do I do now?
Try using another computer. I had the same problem, repeated the given solution many times and each time it failed. Then I connected ipad to another computer and it worked immediately. Then I used the first computer to restore a backup.

How do I do a complete reset with Lion when I don't have a disc?
How do I do a complete reset with Lion when I don't have a disc (bought OS on App store). When using OS X Snow Leopard I get the message "not allowed". Is Lion available on Disc? Don't really want to buy it again... The only way I can see doing this is booting from an OS disc.
What exactly are you trying to do? Reinstall Lion clean, IE without first loading Snow Leopard?
Or are you trying to go back to Snow Leopard as the operating system.
If you want to reinstall Lion your best bet is to go through the downloading process and SAVE that file and then use LionDiskMaker ( a small program) to make a Lion install USB thumb drive. Then wipe the drive and do a complete clean reinstall.
If you want to go back to Snow Leopard you will need to boot the system from the SL DVD and again Wipe the drive and then install SL.
