Selling old phone

I plan on selling my iphone 3G after purchasing an iphone 4. Do I sell it with the SIM card in place after wiping the data off (restore)?
Part 2- I've been checking out ebay sales of older phones- I don't understand why 3G phones are selling for $175-200 when one can buy a new iphone4 for $200

I would remove your SIM card after wiping the data off. I sold both my old 3G and 3GS on ebay for $500.00 total...and wiped both clean of my data and removed both SIM cards.
I believe the reason why the phones go for a pretty good amount on ebay is because people can buy your used iPhones and not be locked into a contract.

  • I am selling my old phone, what should I do to make sure it is ready to be activated by someone else?

I recently bought a new phone and I want to sell my old one (an iPhone 4).  I activated my new phone and erased all the data on my old phone so there is no personal information on it.  Do I need to do anything else to make sure the buyer can activate this phone right when they buy it?

  • How can I get photos from my old phone to new phone?

I Have been trying to move photos from my 4s to my 5s and don't know how to move these via icloud as want to give my old phone away

Add them to a shared stream as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99.  You don't need to invite any subscribers; when asked to enter an email address, just tap Next to skip it (as the owner of the shared stream you are automatically subscribed).  Then open the shared stream on your 5s and save the photos to your camera roll by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  Then you can delete the shared stream.
Also, this is what you should do before giving away your old phone: What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

  • Verizon EDGE - Why do I need to trade in my old phone?

I'm not expecting this question to be answered, and this might have been discussed before, but I just need to vent my frustration with Verizon.
After T-Mobile introduced their JUMP program, Verizon did a "me too" and offered EDGE. However, their phone subsidies are still included in the bill (unlike T-Mobile) and you need to trade in your old phone to get a new one via EDGE. What's the point of trading in your old phone if you're paying full price for the new one (over time)?
Also - My contract is now up and if I choose not to do a 2-year extension to get a discounted phone, it would make sense for me to get some sort of discount toward EDGE's monthly payments ($10 off a month, or something like that).
In any case, my old phone has a crack on it and Verizon won't accept it toward EDGE. When I brought it to the store the guy said that I should replace my screen and THEN bring it back in. Right, so I'll pay $100 to repair my screen and then Verizon can make money selling it as refurbished AND charge me a full price for a new one via EDGE.
    JUST SAYING.
    Andrew

What kind of phone do you have? There is no need to trade in your old phone to get on Edge if you are not under contract. Verizon sometimes did have special promotion for customers who may be in contract with a 3G smartphone or an older 4G phone. This special promotion required trading in the phone that they had because it was technically still under subsidy and the Edge program would give those customers the chance to "upgrade" before their actual date. However, if you are out of contract trading in your phone is NOT necessary. You have already fulfilled your obligation for that device. If you have an iPhone the rep was trying to get you to trade it in towards accessories for the new phone. They  work on commission and this is how they make a huge portion of the sales goal. I know most people don't care about that but a common misconception is that these reps make their money on the phones they sell which does NOT help them. If you are going to buy your phone from a corporate store you should get something else with it.
On to The Edge program. True this program is following suit with T-Mobile's plan. There are some differences. To be on TMo's Jump you are charged your monthly service fee (say $80), then you are charged your monthly fee for the phone (depends on the full price of the phone but say $27 average) which does not include any down payment. TMo also charges you $10 (mandatory) Jump fee. Yes this includes $8 for the insurance but there is still a $2 surcharge to be on the program. With VZW Edge your monthly service fee and your Edge payment. This is calculated by taking the full cost of your device and dividing it by 24. At the time of purchase there is no down payment. You only pay the tax on the full cost of the phone and the first Edge payment. I would opt for the insurance because if you would like to get a new phone before the 24 months is up that phone CANNOT be damaged in any way. With Edge you must complete 30 days with the device and 50% of the full cost of the device and you can change it. For all intents and purposes, Edge is like a lease. You pay monthly and can get out if when you meet the requirements. So, if you like to change to the newest devices or have more freedom this program is where it's at.

  • Transfer my old phone number (from Vonage) to my n...

Disgruntled with the sound quality of Vonage, I revitalized my old Skype account and set it up with a FreeTalk (which, by the way, works great straight out of the box).
My old phone number is still with Vonage collecting dust, but it it the one listed in all kinds of phone books and friends telephone notepads, so it would have value to me if I can retrieve this and link to my Freetalk account.
Problem:  Vonage does not list a phone number where I can talk to someone to get my old number back (which they retrieved from Verizon).  Skype does not list a phone number to  assist me in this.  Go figure, the people who make money on selling phone talk don't want to talk over the phone themselves.
Does anybody have suggestions on how to handle this?

Hi, dandurham, and welcome to the Community,
Unfortunately, I have sad news: as Skype does not support number portability, this is not possible.
    Kind regards,
    Elaine

Before Selling or giving away an iOS Device...
If desired, move photos/videos off the Camera Roll: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If desired, backup the device to iTunes or iCloud: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Then, on the device...
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Off
    Settings > FaceTime > Off
Settings > iCloud > (scroll down) Delete Accout (this only unregisters and deletes it off the device)
Settings > iTunes & App stores.  Tap the AppleID and sign out.
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

  • Should I remove the sim before selling old samsung galaxy s3?

I am preparing to sell an old Samsung galaxy s3.  I did a factory reset but the SIM still shows an old phone number when booting up.  Is there any way to remove this information from the sim, or should I sell without the sim card?

janspad, you got it! You would need to remove that sim card from that device before selling it to a 3rd party. Did you know that you can trade devices in to our device recycling team too? http://vz.to/1cbRAbP

Could I bring my old phone and top up for a new one?

You'll also want to make sure you have fulfilled any commitment on your current iPhone. If you purchased it on contract then you'll need to make sure you have completed the terms of the contract. Some carriers won't allow you to upgrade to another phone until you have either met your commitment or paid off the existing contract. Check with your carrier before selling your existing device. You don't want to be standing at the counter with a new device only being told that you're not eligible to upgrade yet.

I upgraded from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6.  Everything converted fine.  Yesterday I deleted an app in error.  When I downloaded the software it from iTunes ( did this many times on the old 3GS), my account is no longer recognized by the app's host servers (Playtika), even though it did after the initial conversion.  Can I go back and re-sync just one app from my old phone?

Please see the bold.  If you're out of icloud storage, then you won't be able to backup to icloud unless you purchase more storage, but yet you said you backup to icloud.
If you really did backup to icloud no data would be loss - sounds to me that it didn't backup since you had no more free icloud storage space.

  • Returning contacts on old phone.

I had a bb tour. I upgraded to an android phone. I sold my old BB tour to my sister. I did a data wipe before I sold it. Here is the trouble. All of my contacts keep showing up on my old phone (the one I sold). Also, now all of my sisters contacts are showing up on my new phone. We delete them and they just come back. I suspect the old phone is still connected to my acct somehow , so when my sister added her contacts they are getting synced to my new phone. But what is restoring the contacts after she deletes them??

I don't know what you mean "backed them up using my linked Google account." When I go to my Gmail, then click Contacts, they are all there, so that's automatic. But I have several email accounts for various purposes and they are all linked to my phone. Is this where the partial list of contacts came from? One of the other Gmail accounts?

  • Returning an old phone on Edge?

I recently used the Edge program to get a new iPhone 6. I still have my iPhone 4, and want to avoid the $200 charge (I upgraded on Early Edge and returning the old phone is a requirement). However I have no idea where to mail my old phone or how to make sure it is associated with my account. I went to my local Verizon store and they said they could not take it there. Any help?

Here's the link.  You have to log in and it should take you directly to the label page.  I've heard that using Internet Explorer is a better option than using Chrome or Firefox when trying to print the label.
