Selling/trading in old iphone

I am getting ready to sell/trade in an old iphone 3gs.  Do I need to take out the SIM card before I sell it?  And how do I fully erase all of my personal information off of the phone?  I read that I should go to Settings -General-Reset-Erase all content and settings.  Is this the best method?

Either that or hit the restore button on the Summary pane in iTunes. Eject the phone when finished & turn it off. Do not sync.
Before you do that, turn off FaceTime & iMessage & delete the iCloud account. You can leave the sim in if you want...it doesn't contain any data & will be deactivated once your new phone is activated...hackers like getting iPhones with deactivated sims in them, means they don't have to find one & thus makes it easier to hack. Your choice.

  • Should I buy iphone 6 plus @ Verizon store for $200 promotion by trading in old iphone 4? What if I bought it at Apple Store..

I bought new iphone 6 plus @ Apple store online.  Yes I upgraded another 2 years verzion contract service.  Here is my question.
Am I still qualified for Iphone Trade In promotion $200 by trading in my old iphone 4?  I got confused.  One of Verizon guys via phone call said to me that I would be qualified for the promotion even though I bought Apple store (NOT Verizon store)  I was also told by one of verizon store sales that I would not be qualified because i didn't buy it at Verizon store.
Please clarify what's condition of iphone 6 plus purcahse.  Should it be at Verizon store? or regardless??
In addition, should my purchase on Verizon Edge Plan for this promotion?  What about "Upgrade phone without changing existing plan"?  Am I still qualified for this promotion?
    Thanks.

You will only get the Verizon promotion if you make the purchase from Verizon.

Traded in my iPhone for a different brand of phone. I had no idea that I had to sign out of iMessage before doing this. Now, my old phone is gone and my new phone cannot receive texts from people who have iphones and had me as a contact before. They try to send an iMessage and I have no way to receive an iMessgae now. On some server somwhere my AppleID still tells people they should send me iMessages. What is the solution to this issue? Deleting my AppleID would work to solve this issue, but I cannot ever delete the ID? What can Apple do for this?

If you did not erase your apps and data before getting rid of your old phone, try using Find My Phone and erasing everything remotely. See if this works.

Traded homes and iPhones in Europe now and this an old iPhone 4.2.1 unable to get my mail from mail or sign into icloud on the Internet in safari on this iPhone

You need an device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) with iOS 5 if you want to use iCloud. Furthermore it is also not possible to open www.icloud.com with Safari on an iOS device.
But if you want to set up Mail on your device with iOS 4 then you can do it manually. Therefor follow these instructions for devices with iOS 4: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330

  • Selling old iPhone 3G on eBay

Hi, I'm selling my old iPhone 3G on eBay so I can afford iPhone 4. Could someone just briefly give me a run through of what I need to do to totally wipe my iPhone clean so it's ready for selling?
    Many thanks

To add to Tamara's post, make sure its plugged into a wall outlet before you hit the erase all contents button, as this can take several hours on a 3G.

  • Unlocking my old iPhone 4s before selling it.

I just upgraded and want to sell my old iPhone 4s phone, which I purchased through Verizon. I've had an account with Verizon for over 7 years now. How do I go about making sure my buyer will be able to use it on other carriers if they wish?

That's the same problem I have. Only I myself bought it in the United States and just block, I do not know that I could use in Russia. If you get the chance to help with this issue. Only I do not have a sim card company Verision

  • How do I take an old iPhone off my account so that someone else can use it?

I gave my old iPhone to my husband and registered it with itunes but he didn't find it easy to use and gave it to our son who did the same exercise with it.  However, because it is associated with my account and my husband's, my son can't do various things he wants to and it keeps telling him to delete that it has three accounts!  How can this be sorted out?

Before selling or giving away an iOS Device...
If desired, move photos/videos off the Camera Roll: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If desired, backup the device to iTunes or iCloud: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Then, on the device...
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Off
    Settings > FaceTime > Off
Settings > iCloud > (scroll down) Delete Accout (this only unregisters and deletes it off the device)
Settings > iTunes & App stores.  Tap the AppleID and sign out.
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
    Unregister your device at https://supportprofile.apple.com

  • How do we remove our current phone numbers from our old iPhones?

So my girlfriend and I both upgraded our iPhone 5 to the iPhone 6.  We backed up both phones and transferred everything to the new phones.  I was thinking about selling the phones but I noticed that my current number is still on my old phone and my girlfriends number is still on her old phone.  The number is located when
I tried researching this but nothing seems to work.  I did the Settings/General/Reset/Erase all settings and content.  I have tried doing it through iTunes.  Its like the phone is ready to be set up as new, and everything is cleared on the phone except our numbers.  We are not signed into iCloud.  I even signed on to my iCloud account on my girlfriends old phone but her number still shows.  Its very frustrating.
Bottom line, is I am trying to get rid of our current phone numbers that are still on our old iPhones.
EDIT: I just realized that our old iPhones still says Verizon on them.  Do we possibly have to deactivate the phones some how?  If so, how do we do that?

    Fixed the issue by doing:
Switched off Face Time (Setting -> FaceTime-> FaceTime OFF)
    Switched off iMessage(Setting -> Messages->iMessage OFF)
Switched on iMessage (The phone started “Verifying”the incorrect phone number, failed and set it to the correct ported number (seeSettings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Phone).
At this point the “My Number” (Settings ->Phone -> My Number) had also updated.
Switched on Face(Same “Verifying” as with iMessage, but tooktwo attempts).
Power Cycled the ‘phone and re-synced to updateiTunes (Summary “Phone Number” field).
    Hope this helps!

  • How do i unlink my old iphone from my itunes account?

I am selling my old iphone and it says that that it is still linked to my itunes account.  how do i un-link it from my itunes account?

You can go to the iTunes Store on a computer, log on with your Apple ID, and click on the Apple ID in the sign-on box to select "View Account".
Once you have the account page displaying, you will see Manage Devices. Click on Edit to go to the devices list.
Don't forget to also sign out of iCloud on the device, and to go to iCloud.com and click on "Remove From Account" to remove the device from Find My iPhone in iCloud.
Erase All Content and Settings on the phone before selling it. Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings.
    Cheers,

  • How do I delete or change my number in my old iPhone, so that I can still use it for iMessages without issue?

I have an iPhone 4S that was with Verizon. About a week ago I ported into Virgin Mobile and bought a new phone to use until the next iPhone comes out. I now still have my old iPhone, which I want to use for iMessages, as well as like an iPod, etc.
The issue I am seeing is that my phone number is still registered to my iPhone and I haven't yet figured out how to delete it or change it. The problem this is causing is it is making my iPhone sometimes intercept messages from those with iMessage who are texting my phone number. The messages should be going to my new phone, not my iPhone, since they are texting my phone number (not my iMessage email) and my iPhone has no service connected to it.
Here's an example of what I'm trying to say: the other day I texted a guy selling an item online. I used my new phone to text him, not my iPhone. He texted me right back, but the text went to my iPhone, not my new phone. We then texted each other via iMessage and no texts were making it to my new phone.
I think this is also causing some messages to not go through on my new phone either, where I'm just simply not getting texts from people sending me messages. My iPhone isn't getting the messages, nor is my new phone.
What I need to do is delete my number or put a random number in my phone so that I don't keep missing or losing texts. I saw the ways recommended to disconnect your number from iMessage, but that then kills my ability to use iMessage on my iPhone. There must be a way that the number in my iPhone can be changed or deleted. We are in 2013 I think, and this was something I always had the option of changing via manual programming on every phone I've had since 1902 or so.
    How to do this?!

I also already deleted my phone number from iMessage on my MBP.

  • How do I delete my current number from showing up on my old iPhone 5?

So my girlfriend and I both upgraded our iPhone 5 to the our new iPhone 6.  We backed up both phones and transferred everything to the new phones.  I was thinking about selling the phones but I noticed that my current number is still on my old phone and my girlfriends number is still on her old phone.  The number is located when

Bottom line, is I am trying to get rid of our current phone numbers that are still on our old iPhones.  Everything works perfectly on our new iPhone 6.
EDIT: I just realized that our old iPhones still says Verizon on them.  Do we possibly have to deactivate the phones some how?  If so, how do we do that?

Yes I was going through the activation process on both phones.  Weird thing is I did the same thing for my daughters old iPhone 4 (which I was going to use as an iPod) and her number cannot be seen.  Her phone doesn't show "Verizon" on it either.
I thought about keeping my girlfriends old iPhone 5 as a gym iPod  and when I go through the start up process, and using my apple ID, iCloud info, it still shows HER number.
So I have couple more questions:
If I decided to keep my girlfriends old iPhone 5, should i transfer in my sim card from my old iPhone 5?
I might give my old iPhone 5 to my brother.  Should I give it to him without a sim card and let him get his own?
Why does both phone 5's say Verizon, and my daughters iPhone 4 doesn't?

  • I recently sold my old iPhone to someone. Now everything I text on my new iPhone is also showing on the phone I sold. Can someone instruct me on how to control this? I'm confused.

My son recently sold my old iPhone to someone. Now everything He texts on his new iPhone is also showing on the phone he sold. Can someone instruct me on how to control this? I'm confused.

Why was the phone not erased prior to selling it?
Change the password to the Apple ID account that's used for iMessage on both devices.

  • Old iPhone showing up in Share Sheet in Maps on Mavericks

Hoping someone can help me here?
I installed MAvericks and on the share sheet i have 3 devices showing for SEND TO IPHONE, SEND TO IPAD and SEND TO IPHONE 5S, the problem is only the iPad and iPhone 5S are valid devices.  The iPhone device was an old iphone that has had Find My iPhone deactivated on the device and all content erased throught the settings menu on the device as per Apple's instructions on best practice for wiping phones. Thus the old phone is factory reset and has no data or sim in it.
Whats more weird is that this old iPhone device does not show up in the Find my iPhone iOS app or Web app.
I've tried logigng in and out of icloud on the mac in settings but nothing works, any advice ???

Same issue here. I've bought a new iphone 5s, and a new ipad Air, replacing older models. I sold both old devices through Gazelle. Both old devices were running ios 7, and I made sure to turn off "find my iphone" on both and erase all content and settings before selling them. Neither old device is anymore in anyway associated with my AppleID. But both continue to show up on the share sheet in Maps on Mavericks. I've tried everything.
It's not the worst thing ever, since the new devices are both there also, and sharing from Mavericks works to both new devices. Still - bugs me that the old ones are there! It's not possible that if I send a location to one of those old devices, it actually gets there, right? Nah...
Well, if anyone figures it out, it's much appreciated!

  • How to stop receiving photos from my old iPhone on to my new iPhone

    Hello,
I had an old iPhone 4S that I sold to my uncle more than a year ago. Only shortly after iOS7 roll-out I started seeing photos in my device that are his. These photos are being stored in my "Photos" folder looks like as if I took them.
There is a possibility (I don't remember) that prior to selling him the phone, I erased it completely, put in my apple ID to download some apps for him before I made him his own apple ID. I'm not sure if iCloud still has my apple ID on his phone or not.
Regardless, I went to iTunes and "removed" the associated devices with my apple ID but only kept the very recent iPhone I have bought.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

He has Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account settings on his iPhone.
In order for him to download an app update that was downloaded with your Apple ID, he will need to know the password for your Apple ID.
You should have erased the iPhone and left it at that.
