SEM-BSC VS ECCS

Hi,
Can anyone explain what is the differences between ECCS and BCS in terms of configuration and processes?
We are using ECCS (version 4.6C) currently and is going to upgrade to ECC6.
And knowing that in ECC6, the consolidation is applying SEM-BCS which need BW assistance on this therefore I would like to know how this upgrade can be carried out and what is the area/steps that required to do this.
Points will be rewarded.
Thanks !

When you go for upgradation SAP itself give you training for the same.
Changes can be made after discussing with client.
Thanks

• How to fill the "budget" in an initiative in SEM BSC

Good Afternoon for all!
We have a Balanced Scorecard implemented in SAP SEM BSC, using SAP BW.
Our Balanced Scorecard actually manages ratios, objectives, perspectives, strategy and scorecard.
Now, we are trying to use "iniatiatives" and we have using the SEM BSC wizard, through the web interface.
When defining the initiative everything goes ok, we define the initiative , and then we assign it to an objective.
We have also installed the infocube "0SEM_C02" which we have the understanding that it stores the information concerned to initiatives.
I have also build a SEM BPS layout and planning area for this infocube (0SEM_C02) in order to fill the infocube with information (manually entered).
But after all these, the information does not appear for the "budget" when displaying the Balanced scorecard.
When displaying an initiative it displays:
-Definition
-Duration
-Priority
-Status and score
-Milestones
-Team members
-Objectives
-Budget (<-----E M P T Y !! )
I do not understand, how to fill the "Budget" data for an initiative. Because we have fill all the information regarded to the initiative included above, but the budget is very important for us, and as i said before, we have installed the infocube 0SEM_C02, we also created a planning area for this infocube in BPS, we have created a planning layout for this infocube, and we have entered some values to this infocube.
Is there any special condition or something special to do, in order to fill the budget for an initiative in SAP SEM BSC??
How can we see in the BSC the budget for an initiative, or fill the value???
We will appreciate any help for this issue.
Thanks in advance for your valuable help.

• From SEM-BSC 6.0 to SSM 7.0

Hi Guys,
My question is more general than a technical issue. I have a scenario where I am using SEM-BSC version 6.0. It is very peculiar for many reasons. For example: KPIs are created daily! For results of such KPIs we developed a Manual Entry using Visual Composer and DSO in BW. There are also auto KPIs from HR and FI/CO cubes. Now we are moving forward to second stage. The Web version of BSC 6.0 is quiet complicated for end-users and the version SSM 7 seems to be more friendly. Would be worth move to SSM 7.0? I know there is few information for such complex question but my main issue is around; users creating measures, approval workflows, internal communication. These bits seems to be spread all over the place in version 6.0.
Kind Regards,
Gilson Teixeira

Gilson,
Yes, SSM 7.0 is more user friendly, and SSM 7.5 recently went into GA and 7.5 has a couple of additional features that are similiar to SEM.
SSM has an Entry & Approval piece for adding manual data into the system. As the name implies, it also allows a workflow for having those manual numbers approved before being published. That would be able to handle your Approval Workflow.
Creating Measures is a process that would be put together by an administrator. For the most part an administrator is just going to be let's say a "tech-savvy" business user.
Internal Communication has a number of things going on. Users can subscribe to alerts for changes in status, etc. of objectives, KPIs, and initiatives. Plus, there is threaded comments available for many areas within SSM. That allows users to place a comment to give a additional information and that comment can be public for all users or designated for particulars groups within the system. So, a comment could be made to the Executive group and then only seen by them.
Users (when given permission) can create Operational Reviews which allows someone to capture and publish screen shots from within the system into a briefing book-style piece that can also be sent to designated groups or to the public. This is another way of easily communicating and reporting.
I would recommend taking a closer look at SSM 7.5. Contact your local rep and they can set up a time to take a deeper dive into SSM.

• Status & Score problem in SEM BSC

Hi all,
In our BSC we are using an indicator 'financial result'. The status of this indicator is determined by the following:
Formula = a / b (a = actual, B = norm)
Formula result < 0,95 = Red traffic light
Formula result 0,95 - 1 = Yellow traffic light
Formula result > 1 = Green traffic light
The problem is that this formula works different for positive and negative inputs.
Ex. 1 : a = 100 b = 50 -> Result = 2, thus a green traffic light
Ex. 2 : a = -50 b = -100 -> Result = 0,5, thus a red traffic light
In both examples the actual result was much higher than the norm, and thus the traffic lights should be green. However, in example 2 this is not the case
How to solve this?
Somehow it seems to me that the formula assignment should be different for positive ( a / b ) and for negative ( b / a ), but how to implement this in SEM BSC?
Thanks in advance,
Ralph

• Can we evaluate EVM(Earned value analysis with) in SEM-BSC

Can we evaluate EVM(Earned value analysis with)IN BSC SEM-BSC.If so then how?

The Earned Value Management (EVM) method enables efficient and effective project management. This form of financial analysis focuses on technical, schedule and cost performance of a project. Obviously, there are different ways of managing by EV ranging from using simple spreadsheets to more complex software implementations.
To get the basic components of project performance regarding the diverse costs, schedule and technical aspects, some of SAP's project management solutions as e.g. part of SAP PLM can possibly be used (for more information please visit e.g. the respective Solutions area on SDN). As these systems are rather transactional, an extraction of the performance data to SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (BI) would be a reasonable second step, together with uploads or manual entry of additional necessary project data which is perhaps not available in the transactional system.
For more information of the calculations behing this concept you may refer e.g. to Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_value_management
Using calculated key figures in BI can finally deliver the metrics to be composed as Key Performance Indicators and displayed in a dedicated strategy/performance management software with its respective status at the strategic objective or intitiative level if needed (in this regard I would recommend you to have a look at a new strategy/performance management solution of SAP called SAP Strategy Management (SSM) which replaced the older Balanced Scorecard app of SEM you are referring to. More info on SSM can be found on e.g. http://www.sap.com/solutions/performancemanagement/index.epx. SAP Strategy Management is methodology-agnostic and can be used for all performance management methodologies based on objectives, KPI's and initiatives. SSM is based on technology acquired by SAP with a company called Pilot earlier this year).
To conclude, a strategy management application (if it is SSM or SEM BSC) does not directly help you calculate EVM as you need transactional/manual calculation data for it together with calculation formulas etc. where diverse other SAP products incl. primarily SAP NW BI can be used. However, a strategy management application can be an excellent environment to visualize/evaluate the results of the EVM calcualtion in the context of strategic objectives and/or initiatives. And as I said, feel free to have a look at the new SAP Strategy Management application, replacing the SEM BSC Solution if you are interested in the strategy management area.

• Customize SEM - BSC

Hello,
Recently, I have configured BW application sever and I can access to SEM and see BSC application. Now, I need to configure BSC application acording to customer requirements.
Anybody know how to customize BSC (Balance Score Card) application? For example, to include enterprise logo,..
I hope you can help me...
Thank you very much.

Hi,
Performance management programs are used to align an organization with its strategic goals and tactical objectives. At the center of any performance management program is a framework on which the various alignment programs (measurement, goal setting, compensation, and investments) are focused. Historically, financial frameworks such as ROI or the annual budget have dominated. More recently, new performance management frameworks have evolved around quality, shareholder value, customer satisfaction, business processes, and core competencies.
While each of these perspectives is important to the success of a business, each represents only a small part of a broader picture. To manage only one of these perspectives is to invite sub-optimization. The only logical focus for a performance management program is strategy. Leveraging the concept of the Balanced Scorecard the SAP Strategic Enterprise Management process puts strategy at the center to create strategic focus and strategic alignment and to enable organizations to translate strategy into action.

• SEM BSC - Exception while mapping value fiels to datasource

Hi All,
I am facing an Exception error while trying to get the value field mapped with Datasource by clicking the "Refresh Data Sources" in Value field tab of Measure definition of the Balance scorecard.
The Exception is :
An exception with the type
CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_TYPE occurred, but was
neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING
clause
The SEM used is in Netweaver 2004s.
This exception is not allowing me to restrict values for perticular Characterstics values.

Hi Marta,
Your Answer gives some idea about the Exception.
My SEM-BW release is 600 with no support package.
Whereas the BW is 700 with SP 14.
In SEM the Balance scorecard runs fine in SEM-BW release 400 but while dual coding the same in upgraded systemSEM-BW 600 this exceptions occures.
This doesn't allow me to mapp the value field with the Datsource which is query, checked to act as datasource.
Please help me out .

• Using CPM Variable within SEM BSC

Hi,
My client would like to have scorecard in Europe. he would like also drilldown through different structure :
- Europe
- Country (France, UK...)
- Department (HR, Finance)...
I thought It was possible to use CPM variable with Structure object and create only one scorecard (scorecard is the same for every structure). Unfortunately, I didn't success in using CPM variable.
Is there a way to achieve this (creation of multiple scorecards...) ?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
I agree with you when you say that if you maintain values in CPM variable, it will point to either cointinent or country and not both. That's what we want.
I need to know the best way to have a scorecard for Europe, one for France, one for UK....
Do we have to create one scorecard by element or is it possible to use CPM variable to achieve this ?
I didn't find a way, as we can do in Management cockpit, to change directly in the presentation the value of the variable CPM.
Thanks in advance

• Migrate BSC to BW based system to ECC system

Hello all,
We have very unique situation.
We implemented BSC (Balance Score Card) in BW system. but we have to stop use current BW system. and only we can use ECC 6.0. I'd like to implement BSC in ECC and migrate all previous history date to ECC 6.0.
Does anybody know how to migrate BSC data from BW based system to ECC based system?
Thank you,
Jeongbae Min

What you should do is doing the following:
1. In R/3 create a transport request.
2. Include freely selected objects and select all odjects of type OSOA (Active Datasource).
3. Transport it to R/3 QA.
4. Connect QA to BW and replicate the data sources.
5. In BW Transport Connection collect all Transfer rules (only necessary objects).
6. In the source system mapping (F8 in the transport connection) map source system R/3 DEV to R/3 QA.
7. Import the BW transport request into the BW DEV. Now you should get a QA transfer rule for each dev trasfer rule.
I didn't try this out but it should work this way. Maybe you start and try it with one Transfer Rule.
Best regards

• SEM-CPM Balanced Scorecard and time-variant results/scores

Hi everyone!
I have successfully created a basic Balanced Scorecard with SAP SEM 4.0. By configuring the "Value Fields" and using "Formula Result-Score Assignment", I have specified which results are equivilant to what score. As an example, a have defined that a process cycle time of 25 minutes is equivilant to a score value of 85 (out of 100) and a process cycle time of 20 minutes is equivilant to a score value of 100.
Since I want to use my Balanced Scorecard for strategic planning (along with SEM/BW-BPS), I want these result-score assignments to vary of the upcoming period. As an example, in 6 months time a process cycle time of 20 minutes should be a score of 100 (as above). But since I want to improve my operational performance, in 12 months time a cycle time of 17 should be 100 (as my process cycle time should have improved by then). In other words, my planning targets should be dynamic (depending on time) and not only static (always the same).
My question is now, how can I define different Result-Score Assignment (in other words: goals/targets) for different time horizons? Can I do that with integrating SEM/BW-BPS?
Best regards, Daniel

• CRM2007 upgrade with BI 7.0 and SEM 6.0

Scenario: We currently use Opportunity Planning on CRM 4.0, (with BI 3.5 and SEM 4.0). We are upgrading to CRM2007 using only the Sales "Account and Contact Management" and Sales "Lead and Opportunity Management" scenarios in this phase.
We know that upgrade to BI 7.0 is required to support Lead and Opportunity Management and that BI 7.0 will only work with the SEM 6.0 version. We are on ECC 5.0 and do not plan an upgrade to ECC 6.0 at this time.
Question: Can someone confirm 1) that SEM 6.0 is required with BI 7.0 and, 2) If required, can we upgrade to SEM 6.0 in conjunction with our BI upgrade versus as part of a larger upgrade to ECC 6.0 (which now includes the SEM 6.0 component)?
Thanks
Edited by: Rick Moore on Apr 10, 2008 1:17 AM

Hai,
2) We do have the SEM 4.0 addon in existing BI 3.5. Where can we get the media for the SEM 6.0 upgrade so we can upgrade with BI 7.0? We have only been able to locate it packaged with ECC 6.0 media. Can we obtain it separately?---> The media can be obtained from SAP itself or else you can download the same from SAP ServiceMarketplace.
The Upgrade CDs for BI 7.0 are Netweavers2004s CDs only,it contains all the required media for upgrade of both BI and SEM simultaneously.
3) Our ECC 5.0 does not contain any SEM component. I don't believe it is packaged with ECC until 6.0. Is that correct? Our BCS consolidation uses the SEM 4.0 component in our BI 3.5.------> We can get the SEM compoenet for ECC 5.0 also. The SEM can be more customized with BI or WAS700.
Thanks and Regards,
