SEM-BW 3.1B Upgrade

Hi Experts,
We have currently BW3.0B with SEM-BW 3.1B installation in it sitting on mainframe, Now we are planning to upgrade BW to BI7 and also off the mainframe. Question is what approach should we take for SEM-BW . Here is what I want to do:
1. I want to clean up some old design that are no longer been used or not valid.
2. I want to upgrade the existing design as is, mean BPS way not IP way.
Questions are:
1. Do I need to have seperate SEM-BW installation if so what is the latest one. OR I can create these design fresh or upgrade directly in BI7 no need for SEM-BW components.
2. In terms of other strategies any thoughts or good documents, lesson learned would be much appreciated. will rewards any helpful answers.
Thanks.
Hans

Hello Jakob,
if BW and SEM are installed on the same instance, then the system can only be upgraded if both BW and SEM are upgraded at the same time. There's a check in the installation routine.
The rule is simple. Once SEM is installed, always follow the SEM release cycle.

    Hi
I have some checklist ,do not exactly remember from where i got it but its really usefull
There is no standard SAP checklist as it used to exist in 3.x for nw2004s upgrade and trust the master data guide available on market place is not upto the mark and expectations
    So Heads up..

1)Convert Data Classes of InfoCubes. Set up a new data class as described in SAP OSS Note 46272.
2)Pay attention to the naming convention. Execute the RSDG_DATCLS_ASSIGN report.
3)Run the report RSUPGRCHECK to activate objects.
4)Upgrading ABAP and JAVA in parallel may cause issues. If there is no custom development on J2EE instance, it is recommended to drop the J2EE instance and re-install the latest J2EE instance after the upgrade.
5)Apply SAP OSS Note 917999 if you include the Support Patch 6 with the upgrade or you will get the error at PARCONV_UPG phase. When you upgrade to a product containing Basis 700, the phase PARCONV_UPG terminates. You included Basis Support Packages up to package level 6 (SAPKB70006) in the upgrade. The job RDDGENBB_n terminates with the error RAISE_EXCEPTION. In addition to this, the syslog contains the short dump TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED. The program SDB2FORA terminates in the statement "LOOP AT stmt_tab". An endless loop occurs when the system creates the database table QCM8TATOPGA.

  • BPS vs SEM

If you go to t-code BPS0 then your are in BPS. Is there a transaction for SEM or is SEM/BPS the same thing except for the SEM add on's such as consolidations?
Any help explaining will be rewarded.
    Thanks

    Richard,
It helps if you do a search.  I answered this questions several times before and I think Marc had too.
SEM is strategic Enterprise Management which includes BPS,
CPM (Balanced Scorecard and management cockpit),
    BCS (consolidation)
and some not really used submodule SRM, etc.
SEM have a different release cycle than BW but since it sits on top of BW, there are definite relationships/requirements.
    SEM 3.1 on BW 3.0
SEM 3.2 or SEM 3.5 on BW 3.1 (or with BW 3.2 or 3.3addon)
    SEM 4.0 on BW 3.5
BW-BPS 3.5 is SEM-BPS (SEM 4.0 on BW 3.5) BPS0, UPSPL, UPSPM, etc) without about 10 planning functions since allocation, time lag, etc are so heavily tied to BCS and some complex configuration tables that it was difficult to move it.
If you want to use any other SEM modeule i.e CPM, BCS, you are on the SEM track and need SEM 4.0 on BW 3.5 - no choice.  If you are using BPS on BW 3.5, you have the choice in BW-BPS 3.5 or SEM-BPS 4.0 by installing the add-on but please beware that the add-on cannot be uninstalled so you are always on the SEM-BPS track for upgrades.
You might have also heard about BI Integrated Planning and it is in Netweaver 2004S that is in rampup currently and is sometimes referred to BI 7.0 (renaming BW version since Portal is currently on 6.0 so next version need to be 7.0).
    Hope this helps,
    Mary

  • Cpu upgrade question ... again !

OK, I've done more research on the motherboard this system has got, and it turns out that it is an OXNARD ( gateway 2000 ) motherboard ..... looks exactly like the msi 6330-lite motherboard .... so I am assuming its a 6330 lite motherboard.
The gateway website shows the motherboard as capable of taking up to a athlon 1.3 Mhz cpu, although I am simply looking at upgrading to a 1.2 athlon cpu ( 100 mhz variety )
also, I have noted the bios that is installed on my machine here is the 0AAVWP02 version that gateway provided .... I am still wondering a couple things :
1 - can i simply get an athlon 1.2 Mhz cpu and ( as i have been told in an earlier post ) clear the cmos to upgrade my machine ? Also, how exactly do i clear the cmos on this board ? Or will I have to upgrade the bios, which I am very unsure of how to do on this particular motherboard ... making me very nervous here ...
2 - if I DO have to upgrade the bios on this motherboard, what version of the gateway bios do i need , and how, exactly, do i do it ? I am not the most savvy pc user, have upgraded bios a few times before on other machines, and done a couple cpu upgrades too, but anyone got any suggestions for a semi-newb on this upgrade ?
    thanks, warren

    Ok..
i really dont think that u should assume that the two mainboard are identical just because they look the same..
Upgrading... Well... Its different from MB to MB... On MSI, all u have to do is plug the CPU and the MB configures it self.. (ALl u have to do is set the FSB).. But on other manifactires, u might have to set up the clock speed ratio and the core voltages manualy using jumpers.. U need the MB maunal to do this..
clearing CMOS.. I dont c why u need to do this.. But if u really want to then there should be a small jumper of three pins with a cap in the first two pins. Pul it out and plug in into the next two pins and again plug it into the first two pins.. (DONT DO THIS WITH THE COMPUTER ON).. If this doesnt work then pull the battary out, wait for a few min ans put it back in

  • Help! Hard Drive Does Not Slide Back In!!

    Hi there,
After much troubleshooting, I've come to the semi-conclusion that my upgraded 2-year old hard drive (Hitachi Travelstar) has failed. Luckily - I have been keeping a cloned external drive that is the same exact size as my internal one. However - after I tried to slide back in the backup drive, it wouldn't go in. There seemed to be a block and I tried nudging it all sorts of ways. I thought perhaps there was something slightly different in the design of the newer drive (WD Scorpio Black) preventing it from easing back in. So I put my old drive back into the bracket with the intent of booting from the original external. But when I tried to put that in - it didn't go either!
Does anyone know if something inside the hard drive slot may have moved or is being blocked? When I push the drive in, the resistance is kind of soft, like it's nudging up against rubber. I tried looking in there w/ a flashlight, but it's hard to tell. I replaced the original hard drive - so I've done this before and didn't have any resistance whatsoever then. I've tried nudging it around. And I've checked several times (looking at photos, etc) to check that I'm inserting it back in the right way (exposed circuit board side face into bracket w/ label showing - face down on insertion).
If someone can please help me - it's greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss.
And just to be clear: I have a late 2006 white Macbook.
    Many many thanks!

It sounds like the rubber guide bumpers (one or both) have become dislodged and are in the way of the hard drive being reinstalled (you are not the first person to have the problem).....you will need to extract the guide(s) or take it to a Genius....one person here used a paperclip as a hook to snag the guide and pull it out....do you have a small mirror to use to see in the bay (reflect a flashlight beam off the mirror).....be patient and careful...

  • Error in BW upgrade - SEM Add-on

    Hi,
I'm upgrading BW from 3.1 to 3.5 on WIN/MSSQL platform. I got stuck on following error:
    R3up> ERROR: No add-on catalogue "R3ADDON.PAR" found on "c:\TEMP\put\sem3".
It's about BW-SEM component 3.5, I put install CD called:
    SAP:BW:310:ISUPGR:Add_On_Upgrade_Supplement:CD51019813
But installation program rejects this installation package.
Somebody faced this error and has some soluion how to proceed further?
    Thanks
    m./

I know this is a bit late for a reply considering the thread is several months old but this comes back first when searching on google for this error.
This issue relates to the fact you need to be in the Upgrade Management Tool directory to execute this command. In your scenario:
    /usr/boMcal/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/java/apps/upgradeManagementTool/jars
That file is called from the "current folder" where the jar is executed (hence the ./)
This requirement is also documented in the Upgrade guide of BI 4.0
    http://help.sap.com/bobip40 (extract from FP03 Upgrade guide 2012-03-14 version, p.26)
"To perform a complete upgrade, run upgrademanagementtool.jar from the <JARDIR> "

  • Connection SEM 4.0 and BW 3.5, after upgrade R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0

    Hello experts,
Currenctly my customer has the following systems:
BW 3.5 with software component SEM 4.0
R/3 4.6C without software component SEM
ECC 6.0 with software component SEM 6.0 (Development system, I cannot connect the BW system to this one!)
Next week my customer is going to upgrade R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0 (Test system).
I have to investigate if this upgrade does not influence the communication between SEM 4.0 and BW 3.5, if I connect BW 3.5 to ECC 6.0.
    According to the blog: /people/karen.comer/blog/2006/12/19/confused-about-business-planning-releases-between-sap-sem-and-sap-netweaver-bi
SAP SEM is an add-On on top of SAP BW / SAP NetWeaver BI.
    This blog also states that:
SEM 4.0 should work with BW 3.5
SEM 6.0 should work with Netweaver 2004s (BW 7.0)
Now I have the situation that software component SEM 4.0 is installed in BW 3.5, and SEM 6.0 is integrated in ECC 6.0 because it is part of Netweaver 2004s.
Does anyone know if the upgrade to ECC 6.0 has influence to the connection between BW 3.5 and SEM 4.0??
    Tnx for your help!
    G.

Hi, you cannot use BW3.5 you must have BI7 (not ECC6!) to install BCS 6 - BCS sits on BI (formerly known as BW).
It doesn't matter what version of source system you have, you can still collect data from ERP 4.6, you don't necessarily need ECC6.

  • Semi-automatic update/upgrade; is Arch wrong distro for these boxen?

I wanted to post here a semi-automatic update/upgrade solution I--with a lot of help from someone more knowledgeable--came up with in case it might be of benefit to anyone else. It's been working pretty well for me over the course of the last couple of weeks and should aid me in becoming a better Archer. I also want to ask in this thread for confirmation on whether installing Arch on a couple of machines I have that see fairly intermittent use is inadvisable: if so, I'll look into installing some other distro. First the semi-automatic update solution.
To begin with, what do I mean by "semi-automatic?" Mainly I mean something that's only partially automatic. See, I've come to understand that automating updates/upgrades is a bad idea©™. And I think I understand why. Still, I apparently lack the discipline to be a good Archer, upgrading/updating frequently so as to conform with the philosophy. So I thought I should use my computer to help me be more disciplined: that's partly what they're for, after all, isn't it?
I decided I might make the computer help me be more disciplined, first of all, by making it issue reminders at frequent, regular intervals, that it is time to update/upgrade. Of course cron came immediatelty to mind as part of the solution, though I ended up using the remind program instead. In any case, it seemed like a solution that, not only would remind me at regular, frequent intervals would be desireable, but one that would at the same time initiate the process, would be even better. I thought it must be possible to, for example, cause a terminal to open with a message and corresponding menu that would say something like "System update/upgrade needed: proceed now? 1. Yes 2. No"
This latter would be one of the elements that makes the solution semi-automatic (as opposed to automatic). Answering 2. in that terminal would cause the terminal to simply exit. Answering 1., on the other hand, runs the command sudo pacman -Syu. There is a further level of semi-automation at this stage: you are then prompted to enter the root password before pacman -Syu will run. So, no updating/upgrading happens without input at these two stages.
I should mention as I wrap up this description of my solution that there is yet another important element to it that, while independent of it, is nonetheless related: I subscribed some weeks ago to the Arch news RSS feed. I check that daily, so an even further level of semi-automation is in play here.
This seems to me like it will be a very good solution to bringing my behavior into better conformity with the Arch philosophy. It's worked well so far. That said, I'm certainly open to criticisms. I'm also very open to any improvements that might be suggested. Without further ado, here is the script I run every other day from the remind daemon:
    #!/bin/bash
    PS3='Begin full system upgrade? '
    options=("Yes" "No")

Now, to my question about my other machines as possible Arch install targets. The above applies to the desktop machine in my apt. which is almost always powered on and connected to the 'net: what follows applies to two different machines.
One is a laptop that I use primarily when I travel. It often sits powered off for 1-2 months between uses. The other is an alternate desktop machine in my apt. that is also infrequently used: essentially, when both the wife and I want to work on-line separately--which is not all that frequently (she prefers knitting to computing during her time at home)--it gets fired up. Again, it often sits for 1-2 months without being used.
Now, it seems to me these machines are poor targets for an Arch install because they are far more frequently off-line than on-line, powered down than powered up. Thus they are very unlikely to be updated/upgraded on any kind of regular basis, and certainly never regularly and frequently, as seems to be recommended for Arch machines.
Am I correct in assuming I should be looking for some other distro to install on these infrequently-used machines?
    Thanks,
    James

I like pacmatic (as suggested at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … _pacmatic). What is supposed to be wrong with it?
It doesn't ignore updates, by the way. It does two things. First, it checks the news and tells you about important news items as soon as you run e.g. pacmatic -Syu. Then it runs the upgrade in the normal way. For example, a news item today concerned lvm2, dev-mapper and linux being upgraded together. It gave me the news item. Then it did the usual paman upgrade routine and upgraded everything, including those packages. Second, every time you run it, it reminds you of any *.pacnew files you haven't dealt with and asks if you want to deal with them now. At least, it asks about most. It never mentions kdmrc.pacnew for some reason.
It's just a wrapper for pacman. From the script:
Pacmatic is a pacman wrapper that takes care of menial but critial tasks.
    These include
    Checking the archlinux.org news
    Summarizing the arch-general mailing list
Reminding if it has been a while since the last sync
    Reporting pacnew files
    Editing pacnew files
Personally, I've installed an alternative distro on machines which I'm not sure I will be using very regularly. (Also, I like having distinct distros just in case something goes wrong in one case - even if it is a bit of a faff sometimes.)

  • SEM / BW upgrade advise required - Please help urgently

    Hi,
We have migrated from a different company (January 2006) where they were using SEM -BPS and BCS. After the migration, we are not using SEM. Our BW version is 3.10. Our SAP R/3 version is 4.6C.
Now, We are planning to implement SEM- BCS. Our existing system component informations are as below.
    SAP_BW - Release 3.10 (Support pack 22)
    SEM_BW -Release 3.50 (Support pack17)
    SAP_BASIS - Release 6.20 (Support pack 54)
    SAP_ABA -Release 6.20 (Support pack 54)
    PI_BASIS - 2004_1_620 (Support pack 10)
    FINBASIS -200 (Support pack18)
    BI_CONT - 330 (Support pack 17)
We have the following questions. Please advise.
    1. Understood that the mainstream maintenance for BW 3.10 has ended on December 2006 ( The same for SAP_SEM: 3.50 also). So, If we upgrade to BW3.5 (Netweaver 2004), whether we will get the SEM 4.00 along with the upgrade so that we will have everything BW 3.5 and SEM 4.0 in a single box?
    2. I am still seeing that the SEM_BW version 3.50 in the system component informations. Does that mean that we still have SEM components within BW 3.10?  If yes, can we upgrade this to SEM 4.00 so that our BW system will get  upgrade to BW 3.5?
    3. Or what is the alternative, you suggest so that we will have SEM4.0
We are confused. Please advise at your earliest.
Please also send some links where we can compare the versions for BW/ SEM.
    Thanks .

    Hi,
With BW 3.5 you'll need to upgrade SEM to SEM 4.0.
With 3.1 you'll have SEM components if you had installed SEM earlier. You can upgrade SEM separately in this case. Check the release notes to make sure that it dosen't require any upgrade or patch upgrades to your existing BW components.
For your BCS implementation, check what functionality you need, because most of the functionality that BCS projects use are available with BW 3.5 and SEM 4.0. So chances are that even f just upgrade SEM to ver 4.0 you might still have to upgrade your BW to ver 3.5 in order to utilize the full functionality.
You can search this forum for links on the upgrade and comparisions. Other good sources will be the release notes for upgrades on the SAP site.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

  • Re: SEM BPS Upgrade from version 3.1 to 6.0

    Hello,
Has anyone involved in an SEM BPS upgrade; especially from 3.1 to 6.0? Would you please give a check list of the processes/methods to be followd?
    Many thanks
    Rj

    Hello Rj,
in general this upgrade should not cause much pain since BPS basically remained the same and no migration is required. Assuming you don't use any other SEM components, you should perform a run through of all of your planning apps.
The devil is in the details (like custom coding or JavaScript)...

  • SEM 4 to SEM 6 upgrade Steps.. Need immediately. Thanks

    Hi Experts,
I searched a lot in SAP Forums and as weel as in SAP Service Portals but could not find any straight documentation available for doing an upgrade of SEM 4.0 version to SEM 6.0 version.
Apart from this I find few links that drives me to SAP Support Portal and there the links are not working.
Could any one specifically guide me through High End Summary Steps that need to be followed as part of SEM 4 Upgrade to SEM 6 keeping in view of both SEM BPS and SEM BCS functionalities.
Current system is on BW 3.5 hooked up with SEM 4.
if there are no straight documents that available atleast Please guide me through few crucial Checks I need to do before my BASIS Person do install Upgrade Software. Note that this is purely a Technical upgrade and my role eeds to be strictly to make sure that system should be running the way it is running currently after upgrade.
Many Many thanks in advance and I highly appreciate any useful and quick updates.
    Thanks and Regards,
    BIP

    Hi,
I have no how to and no long list of experience doing this, but there are very important things you should be clear of before you upgrade:
    1. Check
    - which queries won't work after upgrade?
    - are there any programmings reguarding consolidation (BW / BCS) ?- very important
    - to be save: secure everything in files or make a syscopy or create a archiv-cube (maybe make use of multiprovider scenario)
    - is COI running ? If you use COI, please beware of note 855382
    - never forget, there will be changes in BW, the infoobjects may change - in case of using the standardobjects beware of activating those changes
    2. Make the upgrade
    3. check everything in detail after update
    without engagement. =)

  • CRM2007 upgrade with BI 7.0 and SEM 6.0

Scenario: We currently use Opportunity Planning on CRM 4.0, (with BI 3.5 and SEM 4.0). We are upgrading to CRM2007 using only the Sales "Account and Contact Management" and Sales "Lead and Opportunity Management" scenarios in this phase.
We know that upgrade to BI 7.0 is required to support Lead and Opportunity Management and that BI 7.0 will only work with the SEM 6.0 version.  We are on ECC 5.0 and do not plan an upgrade to ECC 6.0 at this time.
Question: Can someone confirm 1) that SEM 6.0 is required with BI 7.0 and, 2) If required, can we upgrade to SEM 6.0 in conjunction with our BI upgrade versus as part of a larger upgrade to ECC 6.0 (which now includes the SEM 6.0 component)?
    Thanks

    Hai,
    2) We do have the SEM 4.0 addon in existing BI 3.5. Where can we get the media for the SEM 6.0 upgrade so we can upgrade with BI 7.0? We have only been able to locate it packaged with ECC 6.0 media. Can we obtain it separately?---> The media can be obtained from SAP itself or else you can download the same from SAP ServiceMarketplace.
The Upgrade CDs for BI 7.0 are Netweavers2004s CDs only,it contains all the required media for upgrade of both BI and SEM simultaneously.
    3) Our ECC 5.0 does not contain any SEM component. I don't believe it is packaged with ECC until 6.0. Is that correct? Our BCS consolidation uses the SEM 4.0 component in our BI 3.5.------> We can get the SEM compoenet for ECC 5.0 also. The SEM can be more customized with BI or WAS700.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • BW and SEM Compatibility in upgrades

    Hello all,
We currently have BW 3.0B (BD) and a separate SEM system 3.1 (ED) on a separate system.  Data is stored in transactional cubes on the BW environment (BD) and there is an RFC link between the two when planning and saving data occurs.
We plan to upgrade our BW system (BD) to 2004s this year but in the first instance we are just going to do so like for like, and to continue with the old functionality where possible, apart from engaging the BI Accelerator for performance reasons.  For various reasons at this stage we do not wish to upgrade our SEM system (ED) or bring it into IP/BPS in the BW system and my question is whether or not we will still be able to converse between the systems in the way that we currently do?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

    Hello Nick,
SAP BW is Data Warehouse Whereas SAP SEM is used for Planning and Budgeting so If you can source the Planning Data from anywhere else than SAP BW then <b>yes you can use SAP SEM without SAP BW</b> This answers your second questions as well.
I think Data in SEM can be loaded directly as well Planned as well as actual But without any Datawarehouse I don't think it will be that beneficial and effective system.
    Hope this helps.
    San.
