Semi acoustic recording well

Hi
I have a semi acoustic guitar and am recording direct from the guitar into the m-audio 440. How can i make the sound of it less tinny and fuller like on a album?

Stick a mic in front of it.....seriously. Preferably a condenser mic, and a small diaphragm one at that, placed about 6 inches from the 12th to 14th fret angled slightly towards the sound hole. That position will always yield immediately good, and useful results.
If micing isn't an option. the next best thing would be the Fishman Aura.

But a microphone (or two) will always produce considerably better (i.e realistic sounding) recordings on an acoustic guitar than a bridge or peizo pick-up alone.

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.

USB recording gear

Hi,
I used to record my own quick making up song with a 4 track cassette tape recorder over 20yrs ago. I would like to do similar recording using the GarageBand now.
I want to record my acoustic guitar/vocal/semi-acoustic guitar, etc.
I know this must be well discussed, but please help me what to buy.
I was looking M-audio or Line 6, but I have no idea what to choose...

Try searching zzSounds, Sweetwater, MusiciansFriend, for interfaces. USB is cheaper but not usually as good as Firewire. Simpler may be better for you. It took me a few weeks of researching before I knew a bit about what was what and what I needed. You can see some suggestions here:

I want to record my guitar and voice

First post!
So I've got an acoustic-electric guitar that I've been recording in GarageBand 3 on my MacBook Pro. I record by plugging my guitar into into the audio in line using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.
Basically, I want to be able to record both my guitar and my voice at the same time. I already have a Memorex MKA301.

I know that this microphone is kinda cheap so I may want to get a new one of those too.
I'm looking for some info as to what my options are and what everybody would recommend.
I'm aware that there is the M-Audio FastTrack Recording Interface for $99.95 but it seems that it got several bad reviews on the Apple Store.
Then there is also the M-Audio FireWire 410 Audio/MIDI Interface for $399.95 (but I can find it for around $250). I was kinda leaning towards this one, but wanted too hear some opinions first.
Could anyone out there give me some advice on what I should use. All I really need is something that is reasonably priced and will record well. I may want to add other instrument tracks later so that's why I was thinking about the 410.
Any information you could provide me with or any link to helpful sites or products would be greatly appreciated.

I had a fast tracks usb and it worked great and at $99 it is well worth it. But if you plan on recording vocal and guitar you will need a XLR plug on your mic because it only has two inputs 1/4 and XLR.
Also you don't need a multichannel interface to record multiple tracks, only multiple tracks at the same time.
If your doing all the instruments yourself the fast track or fast track pro may be a good idea for now and then when you need it upgrade to a more expensive firewire interface.
And make sure whatever you get will work with your intel mac.
I just read some of the negative comments about the fast track usb. I don't think some of these people know what there doing. Comments like it only records on the left channel shows user error.

Guitar "twang" when recording with macmini and M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

hey was hoping someone might have similar setup or enough knowledge to help out.
when i record guitar through my interface i get a clip after each guitar note that sounds very flangey (or like and outter-space type "twang" if that helps describe it) i was hoping it would come out a bit cleaner. and yes i have made sure no effects are turned on. its should be straight up clean guitar, and the notes preceding these clips are in-fact nice and clean. its just the milliseconds after each note that are bothering me.
my biggest issue is i don't know if its being caused by my interface or a bad setting within the program. I am using the build in preamp and plugging directly into the unit, so i'm going to get a mic and see how it sounds then.
I did a lot of research on the D/A interfaces out there and i went with the fast track ultra for the price and because the company really hyped these preamps. this is the general description you will find on sites trying to sell the FTU "4 preamps with award-winning M-Audio Octane technology"
if this noise is cause by a problem with these preamp.... im gona be POBB! i would have saved up and waited to buy and apogee product! anyone out these using an ensemble??? would love to hear some feedback about that unit! thanks in advance for any help!

hey thanks for the reply! i have since adjusted a few parameters and had good luck going directly into the ftu's 1/4in jack in the front. the more i use the program the more im understanding (you can see i'm relieving my neebie side!) i have not messed much with the ftu's control program itself, is this helpful when trying to get good levels and such?
how knowledgable are you about microphones? i have a garbage mic from radio shack and when trying to record my acoustic guitar with it i really need to crank up the input on the ftu and be close to the mic to get a signal. this in turn creates that "fuzzy warm" sound that you can hear before the guitar starts playing. it's that analog sound like going through an old tube-amp or something... now while the instrument is playing its not as noticeable obviously and some people even like to add this sort of effect onto digital stuff to give it that warm feeling...
my question is- what if i want just a nice crisp acoustic recording from my mic into garageband? do i go with something that uses phantompower or what? im just so lost because i don't know much about mics (except they can get REAL expensive... saw one for 7k at guitar center by me!) well sorry for ramblings! thanks in advance for help!

Recording TV Shows w/ MBP 17"

Hey, I was wondering what do I need to get started recording TV shows with my MacBook Pro? Is there a better product than just the standard ones out there? I have heard a little about EyeTV 2?? What has been anyones experience with any of this. Do I just need the software or do I also need a capture device? Firewire or USB? You get the picture? If someone could give me a good idea of the "total package" with rough cost estimates that would be great!! Thanks.

Yep I vote for Eye TV too, here in Europe I have an Eye TV USB DDT digital recorder. Very small box, needs a good arial but it records well, quality of recording is good and I can export to several formats...nice with my new MBP! Go for it!

Recording Level Low in Garage Band, Avid mBox mini, NT2

HI there,
I have setup a home studio. I have a MacBook Pro connected to Avid Mbox Mini Soundcard, two speakers and a Rode NT2 condenser mic.
For some reason, the voice or acoustic recording level is very low...I can still record but the sound level is very low and if I increase the input volume then there is a terrible echo...I am sure there is something wrong.
These are the solutions I have already tried:
- System preferences, I put the input as Avid Mini...and activate +48 button to power the mic.
- Garage band, I move track volume to track pan, Monitor ON, 24bits...and the Recording Level is gray-out since I am using an external sound card (I assumed because of what I read).
Any idea on how I can solve this issue, I am sure there is something wrong, the mic and soundcard can record this bad.

Hi, thanks very much for your reply gjmnz...I finally went to Virgin like 7 times...during the same day...to figure out what was the issue...and here is what I have learnt:
- The memory of the computer is very sensitive to recording, that is why I read some blogs saying that the mic is unstable, some times is picking up and sometimes is not...for instance I was using Torrents at the same time so the pick up was horrible...over time. Because the torrent and internet connection was eating my memory, event though I have 8gb
- The other thing I learnt and I agree with you (thank you) is that you shouldnt be paying much attention to the leds levels in GB...that will miss you, you have to test and try different gain levels.
- The last thing and what solved my problem, was to buy an analog mixer console for the mic to enhance the picking...And now it is working properly to the point that now it makes senses to use the lower of the Dbs...the NT2a has -4 or -8 for ambient noise cancelling...
Conclusion, for me at least...if you bought a Avid Mbox mini and you have a Rode Condenser mic (NT2a or NT1000, I tried both) the only way to enhance the capturing of the mic is to get a mixer console...

After Effects CC and Windows 8 not playing well together. How can I fix this?

I thought the problem was a specific project file, but then it happened during another, and then another that I was building without any funky assets. After Effects suddenly ceases to respond, it flickers uncontrollably while Windows 8 Explorer becomes semi-unresponsive as well. When AE becomes responsive again, the same thing happens when I go to make another edit or two.
Troubleshooting: What I noticed is when I go to the Task Manager to kill Explorer, AE responds again. Until I go to make another few edits at least, where it then starts to flicker uncontrollably again. Does anybody else have this problem? This is really putting a kink in my workflow.

Transports from PRD to QAS & DEV in SEM?

I am in a strange situation. we are on BW 3.0B and SEM 3.1B. For some reasons, My predecessor who worked b4 me implemented SEM planning without DEV system and without transports.
I've been told that they are not developing any thing in DEV system rather they are developing and testing in QAS. once it is done, they make the same changes manually in PRD without transports.
they are doing this only for SEM planning. for BW, they are using DEV-QAS-PRD landscape and even transports.
I'm not even sure what to ask. but, I need to start from here. any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Now, I need to start using DEV system for SEM planning as well just like for BW. but, PRD is already running.
can we transport PRD objects back to DEV and QAS?
once transported, can i start development in DEV and transport developed objects to QAS and then to PRD?
if we can, what are the precautions we need to take b4 transporting from PRD to QAS & DEV?
Is there a way, to find out the differences between "PRD and QAS" and "PRD and DEV" to make changes manually for small changes?

Internet Explorer not recording scores for SCORMS

I am having a problem with Internet Explorer not recording the scores for SCORMS developped in Captivate 7. A Forum in Moodle suggested that the problem is that Internet Explorer always has an error with the instruction DoBeforeUnload. I can see that this is always causing a problem. Do you have any suggestions or work arounds for this?

I am using Captivate 7 to produce the SCORMS, and the courses are hosted in MOODLE 2.5. The scores are recorded well in google Chrome but not in Internet Explorer. I have been trying out the courses with Internet Explorer 10 and 11 and both produce the same error:
A moodle forum suggested that IE10 and IE11 do not like the command DoBeforeUnload, and need the command BeforeUnload. (I have checked the Moodle SCORM API and the commands and scores are being sent.)

I've also encountered the similar issue like this now in SQL*Form 3.0. If we have a 'down' trigger inside which we put 'null', it should not allow us to go to the next new record (at least I had ever experienced something like this in 6i forms).
But now it will still go to the next new empty record even if I've already disabled that by including that trigger inside. Can anyone advise on this?

Unable to fetch and display records

Hi, I am using Oracle 11g
The procedure is compiled without any errors.
The select statement retrieves records well when executed at SQL promt.
But the same records are not displayed in this procedure by fetch from cursor.
The last message in the procedure 'completed' is also displayed.

C-Media Line In record

Hi there, just a quickkie. Has the O/B C-Media soundcard got an "auto" audio in level record? I have set the sound properties all through the C-Media device, and am recoerding from the record player to the soundcard. If I set the line in record level to "0", it still records well into the red on the VU meter thingy. Turning the output of the source down makes no difference.
I carnt see anywhere in the settings to adjust the Line in record level manually.

Thx reilly. I am using cool edit2000 to do the recording, but have tryed it with total recorder as well. When its recording the source, I can adjust the line level record volume (In windows sound prop), and the sound level from my PC speakers responds accordingly, however, it has no effect on the "VU" meter of the recording software
Its recording into the red, not by a lot, but when the record is played from the source record player thru its own speakers, theres no distortion in the "Louder parts" of the song.
When I have done a recording of the same song onto the PC, as a wave or mp3 files, its distorting at the "Louder" parts.
When recording, I have all the Volume levels in Windows on "0" in the windows sound properties. The sound card still still records the song tho, but at levels a bit higher than I'd like (distorts on playback on Louder parts), and that makes me think that there is "auto" line level record on this soundcard.
Can u suggest another recorder software to try out.

Listening While Recording Help?

Hi, I have been useing GarageBand for a while now and have been recording acoustic guitar through both real instrument and electric setting. Now that I'm confident in the program and my musical talent, I want to up the bar a bit by getting a better recourding. The major problem is I would like to listen to myself play while recording. Not being able to hear the effects while playing kinda eliminates the use of them.
Recording is not a prob, but I get all this noise and I can't figure out how to eliminate it. Especially when I use the preloaded amps and stompbox. Its almost like feedback but not really. I can only explain it as white noise, like the amps are turned up to loud or something.
My original setup consisted of acoustic recorded via usb webcam mic into GB. As I said this was sufficant until now.
Things I have done to eliminmate the noise issue:
* Bought a real microphone connected via built in input cause I thought the webcam mic was either to crappy or to sensitive. *Did Not Work*
*Bought an M-Audio FastTrack connected via USB.
Mic/M-Audio/Mac. Sound not quite as bad but can not hear myself play via headphone jack on M-Audio *Did Not Work*
*Played around with different volume levels on anything I could find dealing with volume. *Did Not Work*
*Various other things *Did Not Work*
How can I eliminate the noise, get a clean recording while at the same time being able to listen and hear effects as I play?

If your able to record through the audio interface, you probably need to turn the monitor on and use the headphones through your computer not the interface. Thats how i do it at least.

No audio recording

Problem:? no Audio recording (well it records silence)
Note:
-If I use Mumble (kind of audio conferencing soft like TeamSpeak) that can use ASIO to do audio capture, then it works... (using the same soft, if I try to capture "the normal way" without ASIO, then I get no sound...)
-This is not a problem of bad mixer setting... I tested everything before posting... I'm not that stupid... Thx

I remember that once I searched about ASIO... I don't remember what I did... I wanted to activate it...
I'm not sure about what I found:
-nothing to do to use ASIO (in that case, I have no explanations)
or
-I found something, did it and now I can only use ASIO...
(and I can't find what I did to undo it...)
