Semi-transaparant background on my subtitles?

How do i lose the semi-transparant background on my subtitles for purchased movies?

Presumably these are optional subtitles you can turn on/off using Close Caption settings is Settings not 'permanent' subtitles.
I don't think there are any options for subtitles in trems of font/size etc, send some feedback:

  • Semi-opaque background rectangle for subtitles

    There should be a simple answer for this, but can't seem to find it after hours combing through the archives.
    I want to have subtitles for a documentary using FCP HD (no plug-ins) and have succeeded creating the text. But I want a transluscent box in which the text appears, to help its readability... darkish box for white text, or whitish box for black text. I've fooled around with "Shapes--Rectangle" but am just improvising and the results are dismal. I'd be very grateful for a walk-through for a graphics newbie.
    Thanks!

    This might not be feasible if you've already created all your subtitles - as opposed to having created only a few for testing purposes - but what you want can be accomplished all in one spot: the Outline Text generator in FCP.
    If you go via the 'A' button in the Viewer: Text > Outline Text. If you prefer the Effects tab: Video Generator > Text > Outline Text.
    Anyhow, once Outline Text is loaded into the Viewer...
    Hit the Controls tab and scroll down, to reveal the Background Settings
    By default, the background is 'turned off.' That is, Horizontal Size and Vertical Size are both set to 0.
    To get it working, I usually set Horizontal Size to 106 and Vertical size to 102.
    Alter Back Soft to 2. (That is, unless you want a hard edge to your box)
    Adjust Back Opacity if you want, though I find that setting Opacity to less than 40 starts to get counter productive. I usually leave it at 50, myself.
    Optional: alter your Text Settings to move away from (or completely eliminate) the not-so-subtle default settings for Outline Width. (50!!!)
    (Not to mention adjust all the other font settings to your liking, but I think you're old hat at all that now.)
    Like I said, not the easiest adjustment to make if you've got all your subtitles done, but certainly the simplest way to do what you're asking (if it helps in the future).

  • Subtitles with semi-transparent background rectangle

    Hello -
    Is it possible to create a semi-transparent background that helps make subtitles more readable? I need to do this using the DVD SP interface or make a modification to a .stl file.
    Either method will work.
    I am using DVD SP 4.2.0

    It is possible only with graphic files STL variation.

  • Exporting text with a semi transparent background that can be changed in PS or PP?

    I'm creating a logo with a semi transparent background that I want to place on top of photos in Photoshop and videos in Premiere.
    1. I do not see a transparent option when exporting as a .tiff. Is transparent .png my only option from AI?
    2. I will need different amounts of transparency for the background depending on the image or video it is being placed on. Is there a way to export this and still have control in Photoshop or Premiere of the amount of transparency to apply towards the background?
    Thanks!

    1. So you are suggesting to just copy from AI and paste into PS?
    2. Since the logo is text and the background is a rectangular shape, I need to make sure that I can lower the opacity in PS or PP independently of the text. I will have to do a test later, I do not have the file on this computer.
    Thanks.

  • How do I ensure that a semi-transparent background stays that way when converting a pptx file to PDF

    I can't seem to get a semi-transparent background image when converting to PDF file.  Every time I try it - the image converts to a full color - zero transparency background, muting out the text on the page.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi LeighAnnie,
    If you're running Windows, you could try setting up the CreatePDF Desktop printer.

  • How to apply a semi-transparent background to a text box

    Hi Framers,
    The cover of my doc has a full-page .png file on a master page. I want to add the title of the manual on the body page of the cover in a text box. No problem. However, I want to apply a semi-transparent effect to the background of the text box, so the graphic behind it shows in a muted way.
    I'm sure this has to do with some combination of the Tint, Fill, and Overprint settings but none of my experiments have produced anything close to the desired effect.
    I did RTFM and also searched the Help and the forum. I truly hope I didn't overlook the answer---but if I did, it wasn't for lack of trying!
    As always, your expertise is very much appreciated.
    TIA,
    Gay

    Wow, I wish I had Photoshop! I use a less sophisticated image editor, which has always served quite adequately and since it supports layers, I'll try to figure out how to do what you're suggesting.
    (I did try a "None" fill and the bottom image does show up, but I wanted it a bit muted, as would happen with perhaps a "half transparency" and that is apparently what I can't achieve in FM.)
    If I understand correctly, I need to edit the imported graphic to make a portion of it appear semi-transparent, and then when I bring it back into FM and put my text box on top of it, it will appear the same as if I had been able to put a partial transparency in the fill of the text box...
    I really, really, really hate it when I find myself thinking "Word could do this easily, why can't Frame?"
    Thanks for your helpful suggestions, guys, you're great. As always!

  • How can I save semi opaque background fill in a pages table cells?

    I am trying to add background colour fill to some cells of a table.  Solid, 100% fill is easy, but when I slide the opacity slider in the colours window and add to a cell, the new colour can be added to the table cell, but only saves as the full 100% colour in the saved document.  I save the Pages document as a Word document.  Thanks for any help.
    George

    How does it work if you save the document as the native .pages format? A lot of Pages features doesn't convert well to Word, or vice versa. Don't expect Pages to be a cheap Word substitute.
    I can't check out what you are describing as I don't have Word.
    Tip: Always save first as .pages, then you can EXPORT to another format. PDF is better format to retain what you have acheived in Pages.

  • PNG Semi-Transparent background shows up with visual errors in code view in Dreamweaver CS5

    Hi,
    I am using an image as a visual divider between blocks of content for a template that I am making. The background is a PNG image with varying amounts of transparency. This background is set to be at the bottom of the div and creates a horizontal line. Everythign works out when the page is viewed in browser, and also in live-view inside dreamweaver. But once I view it in code view, the lines turn into jagged green distortions. I asked friends to run this in their dreamweaver and it is happening to them as well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    I guess you're referring to 'Design View'.
    Design View is only more from a reference perspective - it doesn't render graphic elements the way it is supposed to, always.
    But, you did mention that it looks just fine in Live View, right?
    Btw, can you post the CSS rule you've applied to this DIV where you add the background image for the separator line?

    I can't reproduce this, Lighten works without a problem on a completely black background here, CS5 on Windows. Also the jpg sample of the attached image has a background with complete black of R=0, G=0, B=0 on all edges, so putting it on the same background should make no difference.
    It seems to depend on what exact mix of the background color. On pure black it did look like it worked OK, but on some intermediate dark colors, it didn't work the way it would have in Photoshop:  (This is set to lighten, just like my previous post.)

  • Scrolling semi-transparent panels

    I have a parent panel that paints a custom background. Within that panel, I embed another panel held by a JScrollPane. My intent is to have the custom background show through on the panel that is being scrolled.
    To accomplish this, I set both the scrollpane and the viewport to non-opaque and then I set the panel held by the scrollpane to non-opaque as well.
    When I run the program everything works fine and the panel can be scrolled and displayes the background image just as I want it.
    Next, I want to set the panel in the scrollpane to be semi-transparent. I set the panel to opaque and give it a semi-transparent background color(ie alpha value or .5). This gives me a see-through effect and when I run the program it initially looks good. However, when I scroll the panel, the refresh is not handled correctly. The problem appears to be that the paint method of the parent panel is not being called.
    I think the scrollbar code incorrectly assumes that since the embedded panel is defined as opaque that the parent panels do not need to be painted. However, this assumption is only valid if the background color of the embedded panel has an alpha value of 1.0
    Does anyone have a workaround for scrolling semi-transparent panels?

    On second thought, that's going to cause a stack overflow. You are going to need a flag to not call it. Something like so:public void paint(Graphics g) {
        if (someflag) {
            someflag=false;
            bgPanel.paint(bgPanel.getGraphics());
            someflag=true;
        // do my painting stuff ... super.paint(g); ???
    }Just a thought, I haven't tested it.

  • What's the best way to do quality subtitles on an Elements film?

    Thanks to Steve Grissetti and The Wine Snob for their advice on Keyframing...
    I'm doing a 35 minute project with a LOT of subtitles. I would like old school white on black background subtitles over my images if possible, but I can go lower quality if necessary.
    - Is it possible to do this in Elements?
    - If I have to use an external program, what is the most compatible with Elements? I'd like it freeware, or less than 100 dollars, and relatively user friendly.
    - What's the best Dummies Guide to subtitles out there?
    Thanks in advance again.

    PrE does not support full Subtitles, like Encore does. Before I give you the method, let's do a bit of background.
    Real Subtitles are text/characters that can be turned on, or off, rather like their first-cousin, Closed Captions. In Encore (or other authoring programs), one creates a special text file, that is Imported into the authoring program, and then linked to a Menu, so the user can turn Subtitles on, or off, or select the language to display.
    In PrE, we cannot do that, but we can create what are called "Lower Thirds." These are captions in the form of Titles. PrE has several Lower Third templates to use, or one can just create them in Titler. Doing this from a template (whether it's from the PrE Library, or is created, and then Saved for later reuse) insure consistency. To do this in Titler, first create a rectangle that spans the width of the full Frame, and is tall enough to hold your text, but not obscure too much of your Frame. This will be your background, and I'd do this with a black Fill, and no Stroke. To accomplish this, choose a Style for the rectangle with Fill. You can then use the Color Palette icon to change the color to black. If your chosen Style has a Stroke, just turn Stroke off. Now, create a Text Block and a nice sans-serif font adequately sized to get your text into the Text Block. Set the text color to white. Keep the text short. Also, time the Duration of the Title to give the viewer enough time to read it 1.5x. I like Arial Bold, with enough Leading to make it easily readable. When done, place your Title above your footage Clips, say on Video Track 2. You can add Transitions to these Titles, to say Cross-dissolve them in and out.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

    fontWeight is a style. Try TF.setStyle('fontWeight', 'bold');
    FWIW, most Flex developers only give Classes a capital name.
    Instances are
    typically named with camel case.

  • DVD with Graphic Subtitles crash

    Hi,
    I've created a dvd with one track and subtitles at every 10 minutes (for watermarking), during 30 secondes. These are graphic subtitles. The Dvd is auto-run, no menu, no loop, no chapter. The movie plays fine in the simulator and in Apple Dvd player once compiled. But, the dvd burned, crashes in the Apple DVD player when it plays on a subtitle.
    If I skip forward the subtitles, the player don't crash, neither if I play it on a hardware player (Pioneer, Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony). I suppose it's a DVD Studio Pro problem because I tried on a older version of Apple DVD Player, with Mac OSX 10.4 and it crashes too.
    Can't anybody help me!?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    It's not pretty, but you can do it VLC and Apple's DVD player together.
    Start VLC and click "Open File" (not "Quick Open File") in the "File" menu.
    Click "Browse" and find a movie at least as long as the DVD movie.
    Click the "Open" button.
    Check "Load subtitles file" and click "Settings".
    Click "Browse", find your subtitles file ( ,srt, or .idx if you have .idx and .sub)
    Click the "Open" button.
    Click the "OK" button.
    Click the "OK" button.
    Click the Pause button.
    Click "Mute" in the "Audio" menu.
    Select the desired "Subtitles Track" in "Video" menu.
    Move the VLC window down on the screen.
    Start playing the DVD with Apple's DVD player.
    Position the DVD window over the VLC window, leaving just the bottom (subtitle) part of the VLC window visible.
    When you reach the start of the actual movie, click VLC's Play button.
    Click the DVD Player icon in the dock, so get the DVD window back on top.
    Start eating popcorn.
    If you are going to do this often, you may want to make a custom, long, solid black, movie, (extreme film noir) to avoid distracting backgrounds under the subtitles. This movie should compress to a very small file. if you pick the right codec.

  • Opaque Background

    I want to create a page with a semi translucent background and a regular one as shown:
    http://bloodinthemix.com/page.jpg
    I've seen them on ebay before and I want to know to do it.
    Is the opacity achieved by means of CSS? If so, how do I do it in Dreamweaver?
    Is the opaque part in a nested frame set or table?  The see through part will be divided in horizontally two portions (30/70).
    The image shown will be a full page live.
    Please, any help?

    I was actually going to use .png until I read somewhere browsers under a certain number (5 or 6 I forget which) couldn't read them.
    That's only partly true.  PNGs are widely supported by all browsers and modern web devices including tablets, smartphones, iPod, iTouch...
    However, alpha-transparency doesn't display properly in pre-IE7 browsers without help from a PNG fix.js.  You can add this to a Conditional Comment if you really need it.
    Incidentally, IE5.5 is obsolete and IE6 has reached it's "end of life cycle" with only 3% users worldwide.  I no longer do cartwheels to fix older IE bugs.  If people want to keep using a broken browser, that's their problem.
    Is there a way to have rounded corners not be in a certain place?
    Border-radius values can be applied to the top-left, top-right, bottom-right and bottom-left regions of your body, division or table.
    See Border-Radius Code Generator
    http://border-radius.com/
    I'm using a frameset
    That's very unfortunate for you and your site visitors.  Frames were popular in the mid 90's but no more.  The W3C saw fit to remove frames from modern HTML5 standards because they are not web friendly.   AFAIK, Adobe removed frames from DW CS4 release.
    See Why Frames are Evil: http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php
    There are much better ways to set-up your site wide navigation without using Frames/framesets.  Use F1 Help in DW and read about DW Templates.  Or use Server-side Includes (my personal favorite).
    It's still not at the absolute top of the page.
    To zero out default browser margins and padding on everything, use a wildcard (*) selector at the top of your CSS code like this:
    * {margin:0; padding:0}
    Good luck with your project.
