Semi-transparent table cell

I know that table cells can be filled with a color or not have a fill (in which case they are transparent. However, is it possible to have a semi-transparent color in a table cell. I'm not referring to a tint, but a color that you can see through to objects that are underneath it.

The only way I can think of is by cheating, you could put a transparent rectangle shape into the actual cell, make sure you set the cell insets to 0 though. However if you want text in the cell as well this text will be transparent.

Hi, I'm new to Keynote. I wanted to create a table in which certain portions of the table are more visible than others. How can I do this? I was thinking about some sort of semi-transparent overlay.

The first issue can be handled by setting the colour of the text and borders to a colour that you have made semi-opaque. Select the cells you want to change, then in the Text Inspector, click on the text colour to bring up the Colours Palette. Choose the colour, and then at the bottom of the palette use the opacity slider to change the opacity of the text to what you want. You can now drag that colour from the area at the top of the palette to one of the "swatch" squares at the bottom, so you can easily re-use it. Now go to the Graphic Palette, click on the stroke colour to bring up the Colour Palette again, and just click on the newly created swatch to set the lines to the same colour.
For the effect with the bullet points, you can either do a similar thing with the colour, or you can try using a Build In using the Delivery methods of "By Highlighted Bullet".

Transparent gradient in table cell

When I try to fill a table cel with a feathered gradient that has transparent areas in it, the gradient turns opaque in the table cell. I've also tried anchoring a shape with a gradient into a table cell, and again the transparent areas turn opaque.
Is there a workaround to fill a table cell with a gradient that has transparent areas in the gradient?

Corrigendum:
If one is aware that the gradient, even when applied to a cell, takes in reference the entire table, then yes, it is possible!
The shadow on the table is a little gift from Obi-wan!

How can I save semi opaque background fill in a pages table cells?

I am trying to add background colour fill to some cells of a table. Solid, 100% fill is easy, but when I slide the opacity slider in the colours window and add to a cell, the new colour can be added to the table cell, but only saves as the full 100% colour in the saved document. I save the Pages document as a Word document. Thanks for any help.

How does it work if you save the document as the native .pages format? A lot of Pages features doesn't convert well to Word, or vice versa. Don't expect Pages to be a cheap Word substitute.
I can't check out what you are describing as I don't have Word.
Tip: Always save first as .pages, then you can EXPORT to another format. PDF is better format to retain what you have acheived in Pages.

Looping table cells....... is it possible to loop more than one table cell?

Hope everyone is doing well
I have been using the addt looper wizard and it works great.....
I usually put all the things I want to loop into one cell.... then select all the things and apply the looper.... which works fine....
But..... it is hard to align all the elements I want to loop
I have been using transparent gif images to space the loops evenly but when I space dynamic taxt on top of each other there is a large gap.....
It is a nightmare to get it looking even

So I would like to place all the different elements in separate table cells and loop them..... I have tried and get really strange results....
When you look at most online shops, their product pages have a thumbnail image the id, price, description, etc.... all spaced evenly.... and looks like is looped...... So.... how do I do it?
Is there any easier way to align the things I want to loop?

Just create a looped (repeat) region and insert a table into the region and edit the table to align all the looped elements easily....

Slide show in table cell and text in layer above images

I need to create a slide show within
a table cell (one cell of several). The
display should commence after the launch page has been completely loaded and only appear once. Also, there needs to be text in a layer above the slide images which changes coordinated with each slide but is generated independent of each slide and therefore may be positioned within the cell independently.

You've provided very helpful information in the past. The code for the "show" in the upper right position would be perfect if the text-bar background could be made transparent and positioned higher against the image. Your suggestion has forced me to clarify my concept in my own mind. The need for transparency hadn't occurred to me yet.
An alternative would be the upper left "show" in a bottom layer with text with a transparent background in a top layer. The text in the top layer would remain constant from the time of the page's loading; i.e., would be independent of changes in the bottom layer. Perhaps I could figure out the code necessary to coordinate that text's change of shade from one slide to the next appropriate to the slide's shade.
I'm assuming that a table cell can be partitioned into layers using HTML and each layer programmed independently using JavaScript.

---I completely removed the styles for those tables (was background-video, background-audio) because all it had was the background styling (which you said to remove) and can't see any other reason to have it there?
So it's perfect except for the background images are not showing...so did I do something wrong in the fireworks/make transparent process do you think?

Table cell collapse...

My last question for now...
How can I get this cell to collapse so only my CSS assigned
to this particular cell is dominant. Right now, my CSS inserted
graphic shows, but the cell left a block of white space above the
graphic...as if the table cell didn't know to collapse (or crop
down) to the CSS image. Here is the bit of code & I am unsure
as how to edit it accordingly. -- I just need for the cell to
collapse in favor of the assigned CSS image graphic.

Thats because the &nbsp stops the cell from completely
collapsing. Try
putting some height in cell.

Separate or move character in table cell

I have table with "$" value. I want to separate the $ in cel befor it. is there a script that can move this "$" in the previous cell.

For the Table cell editor only basic UI controls can be added. It doesn't supprt container controls like scroll container or transparent container. So adding the scroll container n then inserting a text view element into it is not possible in case of table cells.
One of the solution can be....just add a text view control as the cell editor n sets the following properties :
For text view: Set 'Wrapping' to true.
For table column: Set 'Resizable' to true.

Using a fake semi-transparency - what's really possible?

I'm just now moving into DW CS4 (from cs3) and I'm on an intel iMac. I'm trying to make a table background that is semi-transparent while KEEPING text and photos 100% opaque. I'm already familiar with this kind of code: (just improvising here):

But this makes EVERYTHING semi-transparent - content and all. I'd love to know if it is possible to keep the content fully in view.
I've tried making a semi-transparent GIF or PNG background in Photoshop CS4 and using it for the table background, but that doesn't seem to work.
I did discover this (perhaps unique to my site) solution for a fake semi-transparency: Since I've got a gradient background on my site (see www.frankbright.com/History.htm ), I took a 'Screen Snapshot' of the background, from the bottom of the navigation to as far down as I could go. Then I used PS CS4 to expand the canvas and color down to cover my long pages. (See Jazz Links)
Then I used PS levels to darken the snapshot very slightly, so as to intimate a gray semi-transparent effect. Then I simply used that snapshot as the table background.
This looks better on the long, clearer pages that have only text content. With the index3 home page, however, you don't sense the semi-transparent effect I'm going for as much.
I've also noticed the 'Extensions' area of the CSS interface in DW - does this have anything to do with what I'm trying to do?
Anyways, I'm open to ideas, if anyone could suggest any.

As for the colors of the background gradient using IEFilters, (for those who did not know on the forum, the IEFilter for background gradient was available since IE4.5, circa 1996, and all filters since IE5, circa 1998) you will need to adjust these as required. Luckily enough most background gradients go from one color to white or a lighter color of the starting color.
For FF and Safari see - http://hacks.mozilla.org/2009/11/css-gradients-firefox-36/, http://webkit.org/blog/175/introducing-css-gradients/.
Google Chrome uses the webkit declaration, but unfortunately Opera does not support the feature, (use a standard background color at the beginning of the declaration) and FF only from version 3.6. But with the upgrading for FF users normally being 70+% within 6 months, this does mean that 85% of users will support the background gradient.

Edit: If you are using a css reset then it may be worth placing the position: relative; statement in this, as these normally include all the elements from H1 to pre.

Make Table Cells Transparents in InDesign CC 2014?? HELP!

I used to be able to make the fill on my table cells different transparencies in indesign. I could make it so the background would lightly show through, and the text would still be legible. I also was able to make the table border be transparent so the background would totally shine through. I can't do this anymore with the new 2014 release.

Can i do an invisible link in a table cell

Hi people, can anyone help.
i need to create an invisible link in a table .
i was originally using a photoshop image as my web page and
placing links on it using an image map. Giving me links hovering
over glowwing text in the original photo to take me to other pages.
Now i have changed my ways and placed the image in a layout
table and used style sheets and cells to position, add video and
links in cells in the table, with the old image now being
background for the table.
i still want to use the photoshop background images' glowing
text to link to aswell as my other video and text links but cannot
trigger the image map as the glowing text is not a foreground image
therefore has nothing to link to.
Adding a table cell around the section i want to link , i
need to place an invisible image in the cell giving something to
link to, which would give the appearence of linking to the the
background glow text, i cant fill a box with same colour text to
look invisible because the background image is too complex. And i
can't mimick my cool glow text in dreamweaver, so
what can i do.? Link to anchors on other pages ? Invisible
link in cell ?

You can add a transparent gif - create a 1x1px clear.gif, and
then size
it any size you want in your table cell. Add a link to that
gif.

Transparent table strokes IDCS3

Hi there,
I have a table with a picture on the layer below. My table cells are filled with a colour set to overprint so that the background image shows through but in a slightly different hue.
Question.
I would like table strokes that are transparent in appearance so that the background image shows through the gaps in the table cells in it's correct colour ie not with the hue shift that occurs with the cell fills.
I thought setting the stroke colour to none would do this but it doesn't.
Any clues anyone, please?

Right, setting stroke to none means: invisible, almost the same as 0 pt (except colour None and a width of greater then 0 pt will make your table larger, so if you do not want lines, choose 0 pt)
That said: no, you can not make the (individual) strokes in a table transparent as far as I know (the effects panel is grayed out)
